Beautiful! Thanks so much. This third stage feels like the same Jiddu Krishnamurti suggests saying that there is no difference between the thinker and thought, or the observer and the observed etc. I feel I understand what Rupert is saying. It is saying yes to everything indeed! No evaluation/ judgement/ cutting/division of reality. Eckhart Tolle hints at this third level of understanding and probably has achieved it himself, but seems to teach more of the first and second understanding. Nevertheless he is a fantastic teacher. Same with Mooji. He seems to teach mostly with this "you are not the objects of awareness" approach. I think what Rupert points at on the third understanding is the same as when it is said " all is God" which basically means that all things at their different vibrations and charateristics are just Energy in different presentations, like if all were play doh molded in different shapes/colors/qualities but still playdoh. Beautiful stuff. Thanks for posting. I feel that ultimately everyone must explore these beautiful pointers and come to an understanding which finally cannot be described by words or reason. It just IS. Peace and Love to all the beautiful expressions of Life that listen to these beautiful teachings/pointers as well as to Rupert and all the teachers that help us relinquish division, judgement and limitations. The Force is All. ❤️🔥🙏🏽

Krishnamurti has a revealing conversation on "awareness" in the book "The Urgency of Change". He says, "This awareness is not aware that it is aware."

    • @senk2352
      @senk2352 5 років тому +5

Krishnamurti: Again, are you asking this question from this side of the river, or is it from the other bank? If you are on the other bank, you will not ask this question; if you are on that bank, your action will be from that bank. So there is an awareness of this bank, with all its structure, its nature and all its traps, and to try to escape from the trap is to fall into another trap. And what deadly monotony there is in all that! Awareness has shown us the nature of the trap, and therefore there is the negation of all traps; so the mind is now empty. It is empty of the "me" and of the trap. This mind has a different quality, a different dimension of awareness. This awareness is not aware that it is aware."

My understanding is that in the first stage we recognize that we are the non judgmental witness of all experience. In the second step we recognize that this witnessing consciousness is all pervading and eternal And in the third stage we realize that there never ware neither an object to be witnessed nor a witnessing consciousness but rather that the only thing that exists is consciousness alone. That is the non dual part of the Sat and the Chit of the Vedantic formula, and the solution of this cosmic equation is permanent peace “Ananda”. Thank you Rupert for being my cosmic mathematician!

Can Awareness be without objects? What If we where to remove all objects? No objects to be aware of anymore. Would awareness then only be aware of itself? It would know itself as the open, undivided, unlimited, whole, empty, invisible awareness it is. And is this why Awareness has created objects out of itself? And when you say that objects are made out of awareness, it means that I am awareness but I have the form of a human being or my awareness also has the form of a limited mind and thoughts? But what I really am is the knowing of the thoughts but I also have the temporary form of a thought/ of the experience of the thought? I am knowing the experience of a human being. I am that which knows the experience of being a human or of having thoughts. But knowing and experiencing is the same. And the experiencer and the experience are the same. So.. even If there where no objects to experience I still would experience me being an experiencer or I would be knowingly that which knows.. so I am.. experience, knowledge, awareness. I am the knowing and experiencing itself. It is.. like a verb. It is ongoing therefore infinite. There is not the creator and it's creation but the creator is the creation itself. I think this is what Rupert means in the third stage of understanding. This is blowing my mind. I feel as If I can't grasp it completely with my finite mind but I do kinda get it.. what an amazing miracle this whole everything is

Yes, that's it, using our dualistic language. To your first question, this occurs every night in deep, dreamless sleep. It's not the absence of awareness, but the awareness of absence (of objects). The mind and its thoughts, along with the body and its perceptions have both been temporarily 'turned off'. In truth, however, there are no objects, just the appearance of objects within awareness and of awareness. Who is experiencing/knowing these objects? Awareness, in the temporary guise of sentient life. And, yes, we are all "verbs", rather than nouns. All we are is experiencing/knowing. Our minds think, create emotions and memories, while our bodies generate perceptions from the (apparent) world around us. Finally, yes, there are not 7 billion, but only one Person on this planet.

Thoughts and perceptions don’t create continuity because they are always coming and going, but the awareness between these thoughts and perceptions feels different from its modulations. Please help

Spira has this amazing gift to get to grips with the apparent contradictions and fuses them to one. This whole observer and the observed (objects) story is simply dissolved into unlimited oneness. The LED-screen (awareness) and the images (mind/objects) we perceive fuse into one indiscriminate knowing.

Does this message mirror the gospel (“good news”) message?
Step 1: Death (Dying to the world - establishing the presence and primacy of awareness, as opposed to being identified with, and therefore lost within, the “objects” of experience),
Step 2: Burial (a resting of awareness, awareness sinking into awareness, empty of objects, not in time and space, recognition that awareness is eternal and infinite),
Step 3: Resurrection (going back to the “objects” of experience, collapsing the apparent distinction between Awareness (i.e. Knowing) and its “objects”, experiencing Oneness.)

Yes, that is why I don't think it is useful to describe any of this. It becomes a mere intellectual exercise of trying to conceptualize what happens. It may be true, but is irrelevant to the experiencing of the ending of self-division and then what happens or not will happen automatically. Any motive to see the separation of self is itself a separative act. You have to see that for yourself as a reality and not as an idea. But if you try to see that "in order to" understand, the merry go round continues. This is not separate from your daily life, of the battle within yourself of one thought accepting or rejecting another.

Rupert says that everything is consciousness, and I do not disagree with him, in the sense that consciousness is the most advanced part of a universal process that everything is based upon. In this theory we can have individuality based on the non-duality of one universal process, but we lose an important aspect of reality that can make everything logical if we just say everything is consciousness and then not try and explain how we can have the duality of individuality based on non-duality. In such a theory the oneness that the mystic feels in meditation is based on the same process that forms the unity of physics and mathematics.

    • @saidas108

Your perspective is fully of mind. All that you mention are merely thoughts. Thoughts are thoughts no matter how complex they may be. There is a Knower of them; they do not have independent existence. What is logic other than thought? What is theory other than thought?
You are thinking of what Rupert refers to as consciousness as a brain function rather than as Consciousness/Awareness/Pure Knowing that not only exists independent of a brain, it is Existence itself.

It is true we can have direct experience in meditation, but if that experience is the truth, then we should be able to explain individuality based on the non-duality of one universal process. This would only support the experience of oneness that we can have in meditation. I still feel that we lose an important aspect of reality that can make everything logical if we just say everything is consciousness and then not try and explain how we can have the duality of individuality based on the oneness of non-duality. In such a theory the oneness that the mystic feels in meditation is based on the same process that forms the unity of physics and mathematics. This could only be a benefit!

TLDR: Awareness, consciousness, and the objects of experience are not separate, and understanding oneself as the open empty space of awareness or as the awareness out of which all experience is made are both legitimate positions.
    1. 00:00 🧠 Notice awareness as separate from thoughts and perceptions, then contemplate the nature of awareness being aware of itself.
1.1 Consciousness, awareness, and knowing are used interchangeably, but the speaker now prefers the term "knowing" over "awareness" or "consciousness" in this approach.
1.2 First, notice awareness as separate from thoughts and perceptions, then contemplate the nature of awareness being aware of itself.
    2. 03:00 🧠 Awareness recognizes its own eternal and infinite nature, leading to a process of reintegration with the objects of experience.
    3. 04:15 🧠 Awareness and its objects are not separate, and in the third stage of understanding, knowing replaces awareness as there is no distinction between them, with the analogy of the screen and the image representing the unity of experience.
    4. 05:31 🧠 Our minds only know the experience of thinking, sensing, and perceiving, and whatever knows this is not separate from it.
    5. 06:55 🧠 The screen is the reality of the image, just as knowing is the essential element of thinking and perceiving, collapsing the distinction between consciousness and its objects.
    6. 08:59 🧠 Awareness is the witnessing subject of thoughts, feelings, sensations, and perceptions, collapsing the distinction between subject and object in the third stage of understanding.
    7. 10:25 📺 The screen is the reality, the movie is just a modulation of it.
    8. 11:52 🧠 Consciousness is the only reality in experience, and understanding oneself as the open empty space of awareness or as the awareness out of which all experience is made are both legitimate positions.
8.1 Consciousness is the only thing that exists in experience, and everything else is just the activity of consciousness modulating itself.
8.2 All experience consists of seeing, hearing, thinking, and touching, but the reality of experience is consciousness or knowing, which is present in all experiences.
8.3 You can either understand yourself as the open empty space of awareness and thoughts, or as the awareness out of which all experience is made, and both are legitimate positions.

It was a very beutiful insight explanation by Rupert about non duality understanding. I think that this as he called third stage was in traditional advaita vedanta called samadi in which subject object kollapses and become one. It was like this meditation that Rupert simply and beutifuly explained. Thank you Rupert.

All of this is a wonderful story that is being made up as the conversation unfolds, it is in realm of what we think it is a horizontal conversation.
Now my question is, can we have what we think if it were not for the fact that we think? My next question is, can we have that we think if it were not for our facility of mind?
Even what I have written is a story I have made up, now my question to myself is this, do I see that I am making up my story, and my next question for myself is this, am I in service to my story(thinking) or is my
story(thinking)in service to me. After all my story is a consequence of thinking, and the quality of my thinking is a direct consequence of the quality of my state of mind.
Ah well isn't it all just a thought when all is said and done.

Is the third stage something an enlightened being experiences at ALL times? I ask because ''I'' ''go in and out of it'' all the time. I feel like the more straining the activity the less third stage in that moment. Sitting on the couch - often third stage. Washing dishes - sometimes third stage (often second), engaging in conversation or problemsolving with a group (first stage).

Enlightenment isn't something to attain and it is not yet another experience for our minds to catalogue and dissect. Take what Spira is saying to its logical conclusion. There is only infinite consciousness. It is already enlightened, now.

The problem I come up against is this: Three people watch the moon. There different knowings of the moon . However is there not a reality of that moon outside of the knowing of it given that all three would have a similar experience if they travelled to the moon even if the experience is only the knowing of it.

I cannot get it, how can TV e screen be collapsed to the images? The rope and its knots, the ocean and a drop, awareness and thoughts, subject and object? Once is collapses then there would not be any appearance or recognitions or dualities and if thus is the case how can you live in duality? You cannot escape from it. Whether one acknowledges duality or not the experience of duality never disappears, there will be a subject and a object even as a modulation of consciousness unless the person remains in a state of meditation where all objects and dualities dissapear from consciousness.

You say it: experience and acknowledge. The way you see it Vs the way there are. You could think of duality as contradiction, i.e. duality means lack of understanding, nothing more. Keep trying

The words are such mutable creations. Originally they were created to describe that, what is, later that, what was not anymore and at the end mainly that, what isn't at all, yet was presented as that, what is. Take for example the word 'honestly'. If it is used by an honest man, with no beliefs whatsoever, than it truly stands for that, which is stated, for someone who is speaking the truth. If it is used by a man, who believes he is honest, then it truly stands only for that, what he believes, thinks to be the truth, therefore a lie. There are not many minds, there is only one mind. If they really confronted their fears, they wouldn't consider themselves to be mere thoughts of self, they wouldn't refer to themselves as who. If they really confronted their fears, they would know about the existence as much as they knew before aka nothing. If they really confronted their fears, they would understand that there's no way how they could communicate the truth to the other, except for their actions. I'll repeat their actions, not the words, not the analogies, not the stories of awakening, not creating the image of a path, not their experiences. Does it make any difference if you tell someone (who is being brainwashed (hypnotised) that they are dead) that they are alive, that they are free? No, it doesn't, they keep experiencing their sleep paralysis, as that is the only reality they are able to experience thanks to their belief. You just happen to brainwash them with different words, which they might or might not decide to believe in. The only teacher to anyone, is the perception (not a thought) of an honest man. This is called love and freedom. Yp, they even refer to this learning as the passion of being.

Great teaching, one question Rupert, does awareness, God or eternity, whatever you like to call it, need to create the vibrational modulations so that it may know it's peaceful non modulated state!!!
in other words by creating the parents separation does it come to taste its own eternity, is it fair to say without it it wouldn't know itself!!

No, our souls all "know" themselves conceptually. Our souls project themselves into this illusion in order to "experience" themselves. Knowing is the easy part obtained in spirit. That's my take any way Ed.

Being self aware does not limit you to non-objectivity. It permits you to retain objectivity in order to gain perspective of non-objectivity while expanding inter / multi dimensionally.
