    .......................
    Istanbul is a huge city that is very spread out. If you are planning a trip here, it is really best you get comfortable with the public transportation options in order to most effectively get around the city.
    From the ferries, to the metro, the tram, and the buses, we feel like it is very easy to get pretty much anywhere in the city using public transit. In this video we go into great detail on Istanbul's public transportation. But instead of just telling you about each of the options, we are going to SHOW you... not only that, but we turn it into a bit of a game.
    We put together a list of some of the top attractions in Istanbul. These sites are spread out all around the city and instead of pre-planning a route that would actually make sense -- we draw names out of a hat to determine which site we visit and when. That way we can really prove that Istanbul's public transit systems are effective, efficient and reliable getting from A to B, no matter where you are in the city (for the most part ;)).
    Here are some websites you might find helpful when navigating the public transit in Istanbul:

      if you don’t have a bus card, you can also pay with your contactless credit/debit card or ApplePay with your phone !! I‘ve taken the bus a few times in the past couple days, and each time I’ve just tapped my phone. It’s definitely more expensive per ride (20 lira) but convenient if you’re new to the city 🎉

We are going back (a short stay) and look forward to take a ride in the Marmaray train, see the new mosque in the Asian side and of course Sultanahmet and all the other wonderful places that Istanbul has to offer. Q; how far or close is the Havaist “bus stop” coming from Istanbul airport to Sultanahmet Parki? Our condolences to the Turkish people for the loss of so many lives.

    great video! you really explained the transit well. although i wouldn't advise using google maps for navigation on public transit bc as you said, it doesn't take the traffic into account and it usually shows the bus option while there is usually a better metro/tram option to take. for example; from sultanahmet to balat, you went as far as karaköy, then took the bus but you could actually transfer at eminönü with 2 more mins of walking and after taking the bus for only 2 stops, you could take the t5 for a faster commute. but other than this, it's an amazing video. i hope you continue with such videos to show that istanbul is better than it looks from outside

We'll be there for five days, so how much would you suggest we put on it to get the best usage out of transportation. And, is there a similar thing for the ferries or do you just buy singles and returns each time? Thanks!

    sorry, couldn't help but comment... your videos are so helpful and fun. Also it is amazing to see the love you have for each other, it is obvious and present in your eyes. BUT (here comes the but) your american accent (i think it is american) gets in the way of me getting a clear understanding of the places you're talking about... I have been researching maps and more, since i am coming to ISTANBUL in 2 weeks and when I read some of the places names, I was like "ohhhhh that's what they said and that's where they live and keep mentioning..." hahahah. Sorry!!! As most europeans, I try to learn the language (no american-hate here) and get the pronunciation as close to what locals would say so it is easier for me to understand if i ever have to ask someone for my way around... Again, not coming from a place of hate, just saying... GALADA TOWER and KADAKOY were easy but the street leaving from Taksim still remains a mistery, honestly! haha
    Anyhow, maybe see you around! :)

      You can now take the metro from either SAW or IST airport but if you are in Sultanahmet square no later which airport you fly into it will require a couple of transfers which can be challenging with luggage. There are shuttle companies what can take you door to door or a bus service that can get you pretty close or Uber Taxi that will also take you door to door.

    • @mal5297
      @mal5297 Рік тому

      I would suggest ask ur hotel for pickup it’s not very pricey and worth the convenience when traveling with luggage and elderly parents ..pls do not skimp on transfer from airport to hotel and hotel to airport …metro will be hard to navigate with luggage ..make life and trip easier for parents from airport to hotel and hotel to airport …
      For the rest of the trip u can take trains,ferry ,bus and tram …

      It is not necessary to tap off from any of the public transit. All fares are a flat rate. So just tap on and then you are good to go! They offer some small refund for the Marmaray train (the one that goes under the Bosporus) when you got off depending on how long you were on it… but now you have to have a registered card as a resident to get any refund on the Marmaray train. so even the Marmaray train is a flat rate for tourists.

    Thanks for the information. Could you please let me know few more information? Me and my wife will visit Istanbul for 6 days in November 2023 and hopefully will cover most of the Istanbul area with tram, metro, ferry and buses, if our 500 lira card balance finish then what we do next? Can this card have option for more topup cuz I heard that you can use Red Istanbul card for 1 month with 500 balance. Please guide us. Thanks & Regards,

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  9 місяців тому +1

      If you reach the limit of 500tl before your trip is up, you can always get an additional red card for 70tl and start over. Since the red cards can be used for multiple people, I would just get one when you arrive and use it for both of you. If you happen to hit the 500tl limit for that card just get a second card. It will very likely still be the most cost effective option… I hope this helps! Be sure to check out our other videos on Istanbul before your trip 😀!

    Hi guys, has the new Istanbul City Card changed things?

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  8 місяців тому

      There are a few new changes but the istanbulkart (the red one) still makes the most sense for most travelers. The Istanbul city card requires you to take a lot of public transit in order to get your money’s worth and they are only offered in a few of the machines… they did recently put a limit if 500tl per month on the red İstanbulkart so if you buy one card for multiple people and you are in Istanbul for more than just a couple days, you can hit the limit and you won’t be able to reload the card. It isn’t too big of a deal though, you just have to get a new card and start over on your limit.

      Since you are coming into SAW, you have some great options! Just recently (Oct 2022) they connected the metro to SAW. Get a İstanbulkart inside the airport and head to the metro and you have two great options depending on when you arrive. If it is during the day, You can take the metro straight from the airport all the way to Kadikoy (final stop) then a ferry to Eminonu. From there the tram station is close and you can take the tram straight to Sultanahmet. If it is later and taking the ferry isn’t really worth it, you can take the metro to the Ayrılık Çeşmesi stop where you will transfer to the Marmaray line. Take that under the Bosporus and get out at sirkeci and then hop on the tram to sultanahmet square. Honestly, just turn on the transit layer on your google maps and google will tell you exactly how to navigate with the public transit almost anywhere in the city! Also, you should check out some of our other Istanbul videos for inspiration while you are here!!!

    I saw another visit stating that we need to fill out a form to obtain a HES code and later link it with the Istanbulkart. Is this still required? Also, we are staying for about 15 days, can I use one Instanbulkart for my family ( 4 )? Best Regards

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  Рік тому +1

      You can use one card for your family and you don’t need a HES code if you are just here as a tourist. The machine will dispense the card and you will just load money on and tap in your family each time.

      There are some machines that will take credit cards but the majority of the machines are cash only. For the machines that do take credit cards, I believe there is a small transaction fee when you use it to load money onto the card İstanbulkart.

    Is the public Transport in Istanbul accessible for people with a disabilities

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  8 місяців тому

      Yes I do believe that all the public transit is accessible to wheelchairs. I would definitely avoid trying to take the bus or trams during rush hour just based on how crowded things get but I believe it would be manageable to use public transit. Once you get off and navigate the streets, things might become more difficult. The sidewalks and streets can be very uneven and not very friendly….

  • @Jammylune

    Hi, so if you transfer from bus to tram, from to tram to ferry, WILL YOU BE CHARGED EVERY TIME, or there is a time limit?

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  8 місяців тому

      You will be charged every time. There used to be a small discount for back to back trips within a certain time frame but I think that may have been disabled for anonymous non-registered cards. Also if you are using one card for multiple people, the discount was only good for one person anyway. It is still by far the cheapest way to get around the city.
