Just a quick note to say how much I'm enjoying everyone taking a seat in the GM chair, and how good they all are at it. Come a long way from asking a rat if it's the boy...
Waiting for GM Jane for a full house of amazing GMs
And kicking chickens
@@SerTotatoThePiousJane for Vampire the Masquerade PLEASE!!
@@SerTotatoThePious Part of me is expecting Vampire the Masquerade to be her game, but I think Demon Hunters: A Comedy of Terrors might fit the Oxventure playstyle better while allowing similar characters.
They were right though!
Silas's plan:
1. We put her in
2. ???
3. Profit
I love how Mike is absolutely owning Silas as a character. So many great lines and reactions.
The thing I hate about RPGs is that the players sometimes try to persuade/intimidate influence someone and despire the player saying just the right thing, the roll fails. Keeps seeming to happen to Silus.
The chance system makes more sense to me with physical actions. I just wish more leeway was given when a players actually says something clever irl, rather than their actions being irrelevant in light of dice rolls.
@@ceilingfanenthusiast6041That's why you should actually roll social things before talking. Because why roll first and then describe the succes after, but do it the other way around with social skills?
@mennograafmans1595 I feel like the social rolls are just hard to do right in general. I feel like either way it creates problems.
I almost feel like it shouldn't be a roll, it should be up to the GM based on how convincing the persuasion is. Either that or the GM should have freedom to heavily advantage/disadvantage the player based on how well they do.
Idk. Maybe a rule system could be made where the GM can advatage persuasion rolls but not disadvantage them just to prevent any tensions at the table lol.
@@ceilingfanenthusiast6041 Thing is, you then massively disadvantage shy or less social people. I myself can't smoothtalk or threaten for the life of me. Should I then never play high-charisma characters? That feels almost like demanding someone actually do the heavy physical labour their character does.
@mennograafmans1595 yeah I agree. I don't have a good solution, I'm just a bit unhappy with the current one. I'm fairly shy too irl. I think I might be able to do it better under a persono in a tabletop game but still, it is definitely hard to try to be witty or intimidating.
Deadlands has been such a thrilling adventure so far!
No WAY Dollightful is an oxventure fan!?! Two of my favourite channels coming connected!? 🤩
I've been enjoying the dynamics in the group so much! I can't wait to see Mike and Luke together in an episode together!
Are we maybe gonna see some Deadlands inspired dolls? But honestly though Deadlands has been a real good ride, and I love you doll designs
@Nine_Crows_Down Seconding this 🥰 Best idea I've seen all week.
Daisy Ducrow really read the trolley problem and said "What if *I* tie all those people to the trolley tracks"
Tokyo drift
I love the thought of Silas going around intimidating people at the exact same time as Edie persuading them. The most effective good cop, bad cop dynamic in the entire Oxventure.
Man Andy is really good in making villains that you just want to hate.
He learned from Dutch. 😂
Right? His NPC work is great
I like that they are simultaneously over the top villains but also vaguely grounded enough that you could believe an actual person doing it.
@@fakjbf3129Andy clearly understands what makes a compelling villain, which is very, very difficult to do.
@@pmondayexactly - they all have such a distinct and intriguing personality, that I'm kinda sad when they die because I wanted to see more of and know more about them
Literally guffawed at the bit about Sweet William’s favourite lunch. I swear Mike has developed the most out of all of them from least confident TTRPGer to the glorious chaos we see today.
As much as I adore Barnaby, I feel like Mike has stepped up a level here. Him and Ellen are a real powerhouse team.
@@toratio8547barnaby will aways be my absolute favourite

Sila's pistols - the eldritch blasts of the Weird West
The ring is making me think these are the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Last guy was war or death, this one is pestilence, if the next episode features a guy starving a town FOR SURE the four rings assembled are going to bring an armaggeddon of some sorts 😱
Iirc the lady that’s paying the crew only wants 3 targets right? Starting to think she might secretly be the 4th horseman…
"A bad politician..." Pure gold.
who'd a thought it x]
'Two orderlies?' That line was so simple and yet so damn effective! I got chills all the way down my spine
I think if I were at the table, I'd have been annoyed that I didn't get a chance to make a Notice roll and then stop before the lockdown happened, but I do have to admit that Andy's delivery there was smooth as all get-out.
He did slip that information sneakily into his description of the room a few seconds before, maybe to give them a chance to stop it if they caught on. My brain was just thinking "Wait, there was something a little off about that description..." when he revealed it outright. Well played, Marshall Andy.
@@superscriptturnipyeah it's a more subtle form of roleplay and storytelling that'd be interesting to see them learn instead of the more hand holding 'you see the non-intimidated orderly stood by the door looking anxious' especially as they play more complex games like deadlands where there isn't necessarily a redundancy for failed actions like the dnd games they've played
Silas' Recalcitrant Hat of Poor Intimidation and Edie's Unmentionable Arsenal are cracking me up
Place Micah in the receive sickness side and Arthur in take away sickness side😁
I wish 😭
Man I knew the creater of the meat grinder had more then just a derringer lol
That's now, what, three guns she's been shown to be carrying under her dress?
@@abydosianchulac2 I’m waiting for the nuke launcher lol
Petticoats, that’s several layer of underskirts. And the overskirts had big pockets.
Man, some thing were better in the olden times.
Not the child mortality and syphilis though, screw that. ^^
@@ArDeeMeeI, on the other hand, hate petticoats and am a huge fan of child mortality
@@abydosianchulac2Three guns and a knife, I believe. She's definitely the most armed of the group
Im thinking Victoria is either secretly the leader of the gang & needs their rings for some supernatural purpose or maybe she wants the rings to do a ritual to resurrect her family.
The rings do seem oddly specific, and I have been waiting for some kind of complication to emerge with her. But it might also be a mundane human thing, where she wants to be able to look at all the rings laid out together and know the gang all paid. Or it could easily be something like you came up with. I'm really curious to find out.
@@banditbanzai3197 Same. Initially it seems fine to want the rings as proof that the targets are actually dead, but at the same time it's not like it's impossible to get the rings without killing the targets. I'm sure there would be ways to prove the targets are actually dead without needing the rings, so it now seems oddly specific. Or I'm just way overthinking it all.
I don't think her motives are as benevolent as resurrecting her family. She may not even be 'Victoria'. :)
I don't know, to me the rings seem a pretty reasonable request of proof in-game, and on a meta level, it is a sensible way for Andy to impose some limitations and make the action more involved - ie. not sniping Bellows or blowing up his whole house with dynamite.
I can see the fun in speculating, but I don't feel like Andy would make a plot where the friendly NPC with a vengeance quest had a secret nefarious purpose all along while *also* making the targets of her vendetta so spectacularly evil. It's not like they're hunting down morally grey veterans or anti-heroes with checkered pasts, these are straight-up villainous bastards so it would be a bit weird narratively if Victoria was secretly Even More Evil.
I posted on the lst video, that I think either Victoria or er late husband were the leader or at least run with the red hand gang.
"Well who'da thought it... a bad politician" damn near killed me XD
I admire Mike and Ellen's quick decision making this episode, they really just went for stuff, extremely ballsy.
I love Andy's 90 year old security guard!!! 😂
Probably Nate's college roommate, except there's no way Nate went to college.
I hope Misty Mountain Gaming take note of the fact everyone has to keep picking up and peering at their dice to see what they have rolled. I love the tinkling sound of these dice hitting each other and clonking onto the table, but if I were at a table with players I didn't know and trust I'd be pretty uncomfortable with dice getting picked up before anyone can read the number rolled.
My problem isn't so much the distrust of other players but just the fact that it seems the dice are really difficult to read. It's kinda one of the most important things when it comes to dice: knowing what they land on.
Yeah, ornate metal dice may look cool but they're really hard to read, which makes action scenes all the grindier. Same goes with low contrast colours, or excessively colourful or 'noisy' patterns.
Honestly looking at their website they have some really pretty acrylic dice that are a lot more readable than that. Some of their metal dice also have coloured enamel faces, making the numbers stand out a lot more, and doing with much less frills. So they know how to make readable dice, but clearly readability wasn't on their mind when they designed their hollow sets.
You must be playing with some lousy players if they feel the need to lie about their die rolls to succeed. Let the failures happen, I say. (Although I will admit, there was one time with a budding DM's girlfriend but the DM kinda knew she'd try to pull something so sat next to her as naturally as possible to peak some of the rolls)
Mike needs to add intimidation whenever he levels up and can add new skills.
True, but Luke should not, since it's in-character for DeLacy to be trying to intimidate folks while not being intimidating (and while actually being extremely lethal). Except occasionally, through amazing luck.
Although it is funny for a lone wolf vigilante to come off more corny than intimidating x]
Mike trying to convince the guy that he's Sweet William had massive Borderlands vibes for me
The lunch persuation was the best damn thing ever! I love that bit so much. xD
The job as GM is amazingly performed and Silas and Edie are quiet the team. =))
They're all nailing all their characters, but damn Edie fits on Ellen like a bespoke suit.
Cause all of ellens characters are just ellen lmao
No matter her role, Ellen’s always fetching
I love that Ellen's playing such a Face role this time! Who doesn't love a smooth-talking saloon girl who happens to also be a monster hunter?
This chapter had been super fun. Edie and Silas are a great combination. Edie dealing with Silas feels very relatable.
Also I know Oxventure doesn't do romance but I feel like Edie and Silas would be a cute couple.
Ellen and Mike are a great role playing duo!
On tge subject of ellen and mike team ups i want to repeat my call for a part 2 of gravity RIP
@@geraintthomas4343 I never watched that in its entirety, I should probably finish it.
@@bugwandis I'm not even slightly a fan of racing, or only fools and horses for that matter, but i enjoyed their let's play a lot.
I'm here for the Silas and Edie chemistry💯 if this were a video game, they'd be the two companions I always bring around on missions just to hear the idle chatters
I nearly spit tea all over my keyboard twice this episode, first with the "Very silent door opening" exchange and then again at the pen attack
It almost seems as if Mike’s powerful expressions on the thumbnails is becoming a bit of a Oxventure tradition! Can’t wait!
Mike and Ellen are one of my favorite pairings. They have such good chemistry, like siblings that actually get along.
I used to work in a prison, and a man who worked a similar job to that security guard, and he acted remarkably like that NPC. So that was just extra funny for me personally. Thank you Andy, something good from my awful old job 51:56
One of my favourite Oxventures so far! Ellen and Mike have truly nailed their characters, they gelled so well and both had some brilliant lines. Also Andy is just a natural as GM.
I love that they're playing Deadlands. Would love to see them play East Texas University... same rule set (Savage Worlds) but a modern day horror at college - like Buffy. They'd slam it
Absolutely my most favourite setting and game system. I'm so happy to get to watch you fine folks play Deadlands, and it's absolutely delightful to see Andy's marshalling style.
I gotta say, I find the whole, having to beat their toughness with your damage, an odd mechanic - because the shot is on target, I struggle to see why bullets hit shoulders/legs etc but don't have that much effect?
Maybe I'm just not thinking about it in the right way, in which case I'd be grateful if someone could illustrate how they think of it
The response to the pencil attack was brilliant!! I was really surprised that last action worked, I really thought they were going to produce something even more horrible at the very end...
I kinda feel like there should be a OXVenture Deadlands shirt that’s days “Deadlands: Lotions and Potions.”
That brain move had me making faces at work, gonna have to look that monster up when I run deadlands. Also, as i meant to comment last episode, that "Harker" misdirect was slick, I was sure he was a vampire.
Check the rulebook for a "Poison woman". A tough character to deal with.
What a wild episode! Edie and Silas work together really well, it's a pleasure to see them in action. And what a horrific, hateful villain, ye gods.
(Spoilers below)
Theory (that is probably just me reading way too much into things):
At 1:06:35 when Ducrow asks if they could be persuaded to look the other way, Silas answers "Not this time". Could this be a callback to something in his past, and why he gave up being a lawman? He said he was disillusioned with the corruption in the system. Maybe he was once pressured by his colleagues into looking the other way and letting a criminal get away, and came to regret it later? Maybe he became a bounty hunter to make up for this?
Either way, I'm loving this series!!
Fantastic thought, it would be incredible role-playing from Mike if that's the case! Also thank you for setting your comment up with the spoiler warning!
The exchange between the 90 year old guard and "Sweet William" is my absolute favorite Oxventure moment now. "I saw a guy melt!"
His yelling reminds me of the guy from 2 Stupid Dogs too!
1:20:00 It seemed a bit sketchy that Edie tried to erase someone but I can see why she was drawn to that conclusion. Edie does seem to have mastered the fine art of being prepared however, which paints an idea for me that she might be a Weapon Master Artist. Another great episode from the Ox crew.
I want you to know that I was incredibly confused for a good thirty seconds before I found the point. You're a sharp one, that's for sure! Tense scene though... even if the stakes turned out to be a little small.
Andy is so good at playing bad guys I’m starting think he might actually be one
Ellen and Mike really shone in this episode. Mike's acting is spot on and hilarious!
Andy is a frigging genius at this.
I feel like Andy's strength is he embraces the chaos, he has no interest in railroading the adventure and enjoys the derailing. He definitely goes with it really well
@@toratio8547really? I don't feel like any of his adventures have been derailed thus far. If anything, I think his world feels more realistic, NPCs have more common sense (with the exception of the security guard), and he certainly feels very in-control the whole time without railroading anyone
I want to see this adventure made into a movie. Perhaps someone can animate the dialog sections? I'd totally pay for that.
i know. these game plays would make great movies or tv shows, since they are already entertaining the way we watch them. The chance really makes it more believable and interesting.
I never noticed how nice Andy's nails are until he shuffled the cards.
“If we went in there she would be able to hear anything we were doing” *mike makes grunting noises* can’t wait for the Spotify version of this where I can’t see he is gesturing crawling
I'm really loving the more serious tone of this series and I'm excited for every new instalement. But I wonder, is this the first time in the history of Western fiction that hummus has been used as a lure?
Mike and Ellen are my favourite characters this season. Great accents and role playing
They had a locksmith with them but still brute forcing the doors.
I mean it's a shutter door, what's the locksmith gonna do?
@@mar_speedman Well, since it's an RPG, whatever Andy decides he can do. From just offering advice to finding a way to unlock the entire system that keeps the doors closed.
And there were several other occasions they could have asked for his help.
@@arnelilleseter4755 As the GM, one has to decide when it doesn't make sense for something to happen. Sometimes your hands are tied, that just happens.
A locksmith, without any tools, dealing with what must be new technology for the time? He helped as best as he could.
@@mar_speedman I don't think Andy's hands were tied in this instance. He might very well have decided that the locksmith had the expertise to unlock the door.
My point is that they never asked. They had an NPC with a certain skill, they should have used that every chance they had.
I have been loving deadlands so far as good as Luke's blades in the dark and just as beautifully created. So good!
Andy is so good at this!
Am running out of superlatives to describe this series! Another amazing episode - tip of the (Stetson) hat to Andy for exceptional marshalling - great characters and story. And awesome role playing by Mike and Ellen. Am loving Deadlands so much
Petition for a one shot with Mike playing as Silas playing as Sweet William
And another great episode over! It was creepy and intense but also extremely funny. Y'all are wonderful. I cannot wait to who teams up for the next target.
This is sure to be a treat(ment)!
"You might want to leave town" "Hmm.. yeah the thought occurred" Don't know why that particular exchange broke me but yeah gonna be laughing at that one for a while.
Truly enjoyable episode! Can't wait to hear the BTS on the podcast
nice conclusion to this episode, has a feeling something like that was going on with Daisy, not specifically that but something. also thought something like that was going on inside the hospital, Andy has done such a great job on the set up.
more importantly everyone did such a great job roll playing and i look forward to the next episode
In case no one wondered, the Wesson dagger pistol is a real thing. It's an .41 caliber over under 2 shot derringer where you have to rotate the barrel to fire the second shot. The small blade would slide out from a center section between the two barrels. They were made between 1868 and 1860. As only about 2000 were made, they're pretty rare.
There were _loads_ of dagger-pistols in the late 1800’s. Cartridge-firing were properly taking off with things like pinfire and rimfire ammunition rather than cap-and-ball. When you can just pop out the empty brass instead of having to prime, charge, and load a ball, you can get funky with it.
Excellent as always. A wonderful blend of humor and tension. Until next week! 👋🏻
I love the John Carpenter vibes through this arc, from the music, to the Hobb's End Sanitorium (taken from In the Mouth of Madness). Can tell Andy is a horror fan.
Ooh, that was clever of Andy when he clarified how many people were in the room and just casually acted like there were always just the 3 and not the 4. Well done with that. The entire exchange at the security room with Silas trying to lift shutter had me in stitches. I love how Mike is playing Silas. "Who'd have thought it. A bad politician." I can't breathe I'm laughing so hard at that line. Silas getting a Benny for the line about his hat being over the eyes strikes me as Andy doing that begrudgingly given the head shake and laughing.
I'm not sure if the whole deal with Sweet William and them roping in Robert the locksmith derailed Andy, but he rolled with it wonderfully.
Okay, I thought Bellows was bad making my skin crawl, but Ducrow (however she spells it) is just as bad in a different way. Andy really not pulling the punches with these villains. Edie with the pencil thinking Daisy was a vampire is hilarious. I can't laugh at Edie much though because I was thinking the same thing.
Well, as horrifying as that was, it was nice of Andy to kill off Bobby and not Edie or Silas.
That observation was premature, lmao. I was not expecting the machine to bring Bobby back to life by putting the poison back into Daisy. That really surprised me that it worked.
I love andy as the security guard cheif the best voice i have ever heard and that part what is sweet williams favourite lunch.
i hope nothing terrible happens to that ancient security guard. he was tackled by two people and had his mind blown, bruv had his old bones shook.
Sweet William of the famous folk tune “Barbara Allen”, perhaps? Love this episode and this series! Ellen is killing it
Just watching these now, is each outfit that Andy wears as Marshall inspired by a John Martson outfit, swear this one is the classic double denim look for JM
I am thoroughly enjoying this series, had a stressful week so catching up on episode's this morning. This is just what I needed
What an episode! So many big brain moves from everyone.
56:25 I just about lost it xD Andy's NPC's are golden
Accents! Guns! Adventure!
In that order!
Mike: I search for something heavy to hit them with.
Me: Have you have heard of pistol whipping, Michael?
The sickness transfer machine is coincidentally similar to the corruption transfer machine found in one of fort calisco's special missions in Band of Blades. It is also being used in a similar manner where unfortunate victims who are not important to the group Suffer to help keep “important people” healthy
While they’ll probably never play band of blades, due to its dark militaristic themes, many player characters and similarities with blades in the dark, I am still holding out for an oxventure legion retreating from undead armies across a region now magically unstable.
I could see Andy running that as the setting is much less whimsical with hate-able, horrific NPCs on both sides. Although Johnney could do some excellent voices for those unique characters.
Did Misty Mountain also give them a costume stipend because their outfits are FIRE! 😁🔥
Made a BEELINE for the Misty Mountain Gaming team at Fan Expo in Toronto today, and espoused the wondrous values of Oxventure. Got to stare at the beautiful cage, crystal and liquid core die in person, beautiful pieces.
As much as it’s great Misty Mountain sponsored this with their fancy dice, I haven’t seen anyone make a roll without needing to lean over the dice and squint hahah
Forty one times a great video
Wasn't expecting the plot of "The Fly II" but I'm not complaining lol
The way I've seen it explained is that the suits are in reverse alphabetical order i.e. S > H > D > C
Or it's the same suit order as Poker on the rare occasion that matters, or Bridge if you've ever played that and as such are familiar with it (which is why that order is lodged in my brain to the point that I was actually shocked when I saw someone explain how to remember it that there was any sort of logic to the order)
Its the mournival, with spades (swords) representing the nobility and monarchy, hearts representing the clergy, diamonds (coins) representing merchant classes and clubs the peasantry.
The hierarchy is based on the social structure of medieval society.
I’m liking the smaller groupings, makes for a much more intimate story.
Also it’s nice to see Mike having a blast.
"I don't know the damage on a pencil..."
ah, ttrpg problems!
Can we please get a short of the Security Guard??? "Senator Waxman? Oh god...who would thought it? A bad politician..."
Loving the series so far ❤ I appreciate the production quality you guys are putting into these.
Love your storytelling!
"Bad Politician" Andy got me good with that one... Doing another watch through and it's just gold. Haha Andy if you see this, you're an Amazing DM!!!!
Checkov's Packed Lunch!!
These are so good! You keep outdoing yourselves with every episode.
SPOILERS, so watch the video before clicking read more:
I wasn't expecting disease transfer. I thought it would be something like "cloning" (more along stealing their skin) so that Ducrow can replace influental people with her henchmen. Not to say that I dislike this outcome or anything. I absolutely loved the part where Senator Waxman melted like a wax candle 😂
I was thinking it was sucking the life out of one to give to the other (a la what the count's machine does in The Princess Bride) until Andy explained about the diseases transferring. Admittedly his explanation makes more sense than what I was thinking.
Nah. I figured it out before they’d even finished talking to the bartender. Mainly because it’s not my first time seeing this plot.
Always a great show. Best start to my Saturdays.
I'm really enjoying how dark Deadlands is. Some quite creepy bits from both the baddies so far, and it's definitely adding to the unsettling Weird West atmosphere.
Laughed out loud so many times! Absolutely brillaint work from all!
I love how this has grown compared to the very first oxventure, been a pleasure to be along this journey
Some absolutely amazing expressions this adventure.
Great episode, my favourite system and setting and so good to see how much you guys are enjoying it.
Absolutely love these!
Absolutely loving this series. You're doing a fantastic job, Marshal Andy!
I'm really loving this series so far ❤
Gotta say I love the effort in the costumes and table decoration etc for this, it's a great aesthetic! And the sound of those dice clinking around is very pleasing too 🙏🏻
35:19 this could make for a really good source of conflict later on in the campaign.
The Feds (who absolutely would look into this) would make a great adversary.
Especially given how corrupt marshals were at (roughly) this time.
52:45 this is a bad plan.
That was such a fun episode! I'm loving these!
Weird West novel recommendation for Andy (with the caveat that I’ve not read this one myself, but have read other works by the author and she’s excellent): Six-Gun Snow White, by Catherynne M Valente.
