As an appreciator of both, I say avoid that moral high horse. Christian rock that glorifies the name of Jesus can be as powerful as hymn. God is far more dynamic and understanding of the hearts of his people than a mere cardboard cutout of what people think a Christian is. I don’t mean to get so passionate from your comment, but you can trust God has his people in it on the hymn and rock front.
When I stood at the grave of my 20 year old daughter. she died from an unknown genetic dysfunction . I knew that even though I felt dead inside Jesus was with me. As angry as I was. Now 22 years later they know what was wrong with her and now I am dying of the same inherited disease.AND FOR ALL THE TIMES I HAVE TOLD GOD I HATED HIM He has wrapped His loving arms around me and forgiven my human side because I have Victory in Jesus!!!!!
Mine has passed while I'm still young but her making me go to a good ole Baptist church growing up that sang these, kept them in my heart and is the only way for me to truly feel worship anymore. God bless her and I pray I see her in Heaven, but she was a complicated person.

I was raised going to church every Sunday at a major denomination (I won't mention which one) but as an adult I found myself going to church because I was supposed to, not necessarily because I wanted to. Then, during a very dark time of my life, an old friend whom I hadn't spoke with for years reached out to me an extended the offer to have me come to their church service for a visit. Adter that, Church became something i looked forward to every week and my faith grew stronger and deeper, and 6 years and 4 months later, I accepted, with tearful eyes, christ as my one lord and savor, and i was rebaptized in the river. Praise God

When I was at Marine boot camp, we used to sing this almost every Sunday at church. It never failed to move me. Reminded me of being at home...I'm not much for church anymore, but this hymn will always lift me up.
This morning I was reading in the Revelation 14:1-5 and 15:1-3. When I prayerfully read 15:2, “and them who had gotten the victory ...” I had to sing this song. I could not find it in the church of God hymn book or the Evening Light hymn book so I found it here. And I love the version you sing much better than the traditional one because it is Scriptural, not traditional! So I enjoyed singing this song before the throne on mount Zion and on the sea of glass!

As a kid I attended a kids program at the local baptist church and us kids loved singing this song. I stopped going when I got too old and I had never heard the song again but I missed it. Over the summer my great grandfather passed away and he had wanted this sung at his funeral. I started bawling right then and there, not because I missed him, but because he taught me one last thing even when he was gone.. he taught me that nothing, not even death can make us lose, we have victory in Jesus. ;)

Way back in 1988 our boy leader suddenly died in Boy Scout Troop 350. We sang this song at his funeral. My asst. scoutmaster belted this out with the worst voice I ever heard. It still sounded beautiful and I will never forget it every time I hear this song. Praise the Lord RIP Allan

When I was at Marine boot camp, we used to sing this almost every Sunday at church. It never failed to move me. Reminded me of being at home...I'm not much for church anymore, but this hymn will always lift me up.

I was raised in Church of Christ (South Augusta, GA), no music and I remember this vividly! Praise God!
This morning I was reading in the Revelation 14:1-5 and 15:1-3. When I prayerfully read 15:2, “and them who had gotten the victory ...” I had to sing this song. I could not find it in the church of God hymn book or the Evening Light hymn book so I found it here. And I love the version you sing much better than the traditional one because it is Scriptural, not traditional! So I enjoyed singing this song before the throne on mount Zion and on the sea of glass!

As a kid I attended a kids program at the local baptist church and us kids loved singing this song. I stopped going when I got too old and I had never heard the song again but I missed it. Over the summer my great grandfather passed away and he had wanted this sung at his funeral. I started bawling right then and there, not because I missed him, but because he taught me one last thing even when he was gone.. he taught me that nothing, not even death can make us lose, we have victory in Jesus. ;)
