Very very helpful! Thanks for sharing! I had no idea how to pack up my late dad’s fishing rods so they make it across country. Really appreciate your guidance.
Yes I use pvc pipe as well to ship. I know usps you can’t go over 118inchs total dimensions. I’m not sure with the other carriers. I ship a lot of fishing rods but never that long. May have to ship with a freight company.
Where I am at in Virginia the post office told me no bigger the 110 though ups so your saying 118? Where on the ups web site I can find that and the rod is two piece I went too the posted office and got some of those box’s. They told me too call and talk too the post master.
@@bigguy83freedomfirearmsfis94 It used to be 118 they must of changed it. Two piece rod is better will break down close to 5ft so you should be fine shipping it. Use pirate ship, it’s a reduced usps shipping rate. A lot of reseller use it all the time.
Yea they wouldn’t still take because they go buy your length and girth I had it down too like 94 but with the girth it was like 17 so the would not take unless I pay 200 or the buyer would spend like close too that also
Great video - thank you! I am sadly liquidating all of my fishing tackle due to old age and health problems. I have been sold just about all my reels but have been reluctant to list my many fishing rods. I prefer - in these COVID-19 times - to sell on eBay rather than on craigslist.com since there is no race to face meetings needed for eBay sales... I didn't know that USPS had mailing boxes like this... Where do I find mailing prices for a rod packaged like this? What is the longest rods that the USPS will accept? Thanks again...
Richard Crowe thanks for watching! Sorry to here about your health conditions. You can order triangle boxes for free off usps.com or sometimes they have them at the post office. If you ship usps you can’t go over a total length of 108 inches if I’m not mistaken. If you purchase a label online make sure you click non- rectangular because it will be cheaper that way. If you have a two piece rod take it apart which will be shorter and cheaper because rods can get pricey to ship due to length. I also use pirateship.com which is usps labels but at u bulk cheaper rate. Hope this helps and take care and stay well!
There way more major reasons. But it’s ok for people to use them as storage boxes in there garage and donate them to goodwill and for good will to resell free boxes. That’s no different. It is what it is, at least I’m still shipping it usps priority. Can’t please everyone! Some people are on a budget.
Thanks! Will the postal office have any issue with the "modified" free triangular shipping tube? Will they send you back?
No issue with extending the box, only issue would be modifying a flat rate box which this is not. Thanks
Good video but people should know that it is not ok to use Priority Padded Flat Rate Envelopes for free padding!
I was just about to say that

Slick. Thanks for the heads up. I just carried home about 50 vintage rods to flip and had no idea about how to ship.

How much is it to ship these?
Depends on location and length. Usually between 15-35 dollars. I always check usps and ups to see which is less expensive
