When you take that white box off the cover, remove the left screw, but only just loosen the right one and do not remove it. Slide the white box slightly to the left to remove it. It makes getting the box back on a little easier and quicker.

Ty for help! I do this. The part about remove the box from plastic as optional is not true. If you do not remove this you will be mad at yourself. Just remove it :)

It's a little different on UK RHD models. On my 2004 3.0 there are the same 2 screws to drop the panel but there is also a plastic centre rivet. You need to prise out the middle (can be done with fingers) and then the panel can drop. After that it's probably easier than LHD versions as there isn't a white box to remove. It's still a pig of job job, I really struggled to get the cover back on the housing but got there eventually. Mine had never been changed and was pretty grotty.

I know this thread/video is a little dated, but I thought I would add some thoughts incase there is still a few pre 2009 Z4M-Z4 folks doing DIY's. Unlike this 2008 Z4, my 2006 Z4M had two additional features to deal with. The first is a third retaining clip/plastic insert tab located center, back 4" from the front lip(nearest seat). You need to pull this out starting with a flat headed screw driver, followed by pliers. The second is the under dash curtousy lamp. Located 2" behind the center retaining clip. I just disconnected it from the power wire harness. You can see the two openings that the clip and lamp are located in the video. reinstall in reverse order after you change out the filter. what about bmw 750li ? is there filter inside the cabin too? I replaced the 2 filters inside the hood but the air is still not pure
