    Due to a permanent hand injury I was having problems squaring edges with hand planes, especially with a no 7 and 8 jointer planes. I purchased the Veritas plane fence and it's given me the ability to use hand planes again. Your fence is the best I've seen anyone make. I may make yours for a dedicated one for my no 8. Thanks for sharing your tutorial with us. Great resource for anyone wanting to make a fence.

    Very well done. I made one years ago with the shoulder like yours but without magnets. Quick spring clamps repaced the need of your magnets but your magnets are better. Also, I really like how well you squared the fixture to your iron.

      Thanks, it's definitely a great jig to ensure easy square edge jointing.

    Nice work Luke. This is something I struggle with. My bench is slightly tilted away from me so planing a board in the vice is always slightly off and needs lots of adjustment. This little jig should help a lot👍.

      A slight tilt in your workbench sounds annoying, glad this jig can help you out. Happy planing

    Well done. Seasoned Greetings. I wonder if any OS woodworkers have any idea of the temperature inside a tin shed in an Aussie summer? I felt for you.

      Thanks, it definitely isn't cool in an uninsulated shed, but i try to get things done before it gets too hot.

    Thank you so much for this idea!!! I have a 78 without a fence. I hope this idea will work for it!

      Glad you liked it. It should work on a 78 but without the adjustment of the stock fence

      Should work fine, but you may want to overlap the outside bit that attaches to the plane the full length for strength

  • @andrewbrimmer1797
    @andrewbrimmer1797 6 місяців тому +1

    If you used a thicker fence couldn't you rabbit out the space for the plane and then the squareness would be more consistent?

    • @AussieWoodshed
      @AussieWoodshed  6 місяців тому

      You could definitely do it that way, and it would limit the inaccuracies. My approach in this video was to make it more acceptable to everyone, including complete beginners. The easiest way I could think of was 2 pieces of wood, ply etc.

      First thing to do is to check the side of the plane is 90 degrees to the sole. It usually isn’t. If so this has to be allowed for.

    • @AussieWoodshed
      @AussieWoodshed  6 місяців тому

      @@jimbo2629 your absolutely correct, but adjusting the lower part of the fence by planing it square to the sole is easier and why i did it that way.
