This is going to be fun & frustrating all at the same time. Ever since i was a kid i've wanted to play a keyboard, now i'm finally about to start learning at 55
Lovely video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Possessing Piano Remedy (search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to play the piano easily minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend Sam at very last got astronomical success with it.
I see your post is a year ago, I’m 69and just starting. I’m very interested in how you’ve progressed and did you find it difficult to follow as you advanced.
We bought a digital piano for Christmas and while my daughter will be taking private lessons, I’ve decided to learn online. Your lessons stand out over others I’ve watched for several reasons. First, you get right to it. In just a few minutes you’ve given us 5 practical exercises that I can see and hear will be absolutely fundamental. Second, your videos are well produced, your delivery is great and that helps with motivation. Third, your video focuses on the piano keyboard and your hands from a first person POV. Many other online teachers seem to want to get their faces in and often have the cameras pointed at them playing from either a side or behind the shoulder POV. All this to say I think I found my online source for getting started on learning piano.
...or as my wife puts it, "you wouldn't have all those subscribers if they could see your face..."! Thanks for the kind words, Mike, and I'm glad you like my stuff. Good luck with your progress, and shout if you have any questions (I always answer eventually, though sometimes I get a backlog...!). By the way, you have the right strategy for your daughter: learning online is convenient for adults, but there's no beating one-to-one tuition from an experienced teacher who can give expert feedback. For kids, especially, I think personal tuition is essential. I hope she does well!
Hi Bill, I've never learnt to play piano (as my teacher refused to teach me when 13 at school as I told her I wanted to learn rock&roll songs). She only taught classical music. So I taught myself guitar and written numerous songs on guitar. But your tutorials look interesting. I've bought a digital piano by selling some of my songs so going to learn from your videos. I only know basic music theory so your piano videos look interesting. Thank you for your content. Best, Roberto.
I am so glad I found this series! I'm an older fella (49) and you explain everything so well. I hate that I've decided at such a late age to learn piano, but it is something I have wanted to do since I was in grade school. My parents never had the money for a teacher and living in a small town and in the country made it even harder as I don't believe there was an instructor. Having attention issues was another thing that kept me from attempting to learn. Now that I am older and have learned to cope with my attention issues have I decided to give this a proper try. I am going to start in the next day or two and hope to update you on my progress and/or comment on the specific lessons I am on. I only have an old Yamaha keyboard that is roughly 25 years old and only works sometimes to start with, but I plan to upgrade to a weighted key digital piano as soon as I can save up for one. There are so many to choose from that it can be a bit overwhelming to be honest. Anyway, thank you again for helping make a much older 'kids' dream come true!
Im 15 yrs and i been playing piano for about 2 weeks now i take private lessons and i want to play piano for my church and my favorite songs wish good luck 😁.
I just picked one up been wanting to learn. I’m curious since it’s been a few months now, how’s your progress? Because I tend to give up easily on things because they’re hard but I’d really like to stick to it.
Your still younge. I started drum lessons when I was 14. Im 38 and I am EXTREMELY good at the drums. Wish I could go back and learn piano... With technology these days, you can litterally play ANY instrument with the piano because of vst plugins.
If you practice really hard and do your lessons every week for your piano teaher you can play piano well enough for your church in a few years. Remember, Practice, Practice, Practice. It's not always easy but it is sooooooooooo worth it. You can play and enjoy piano for the rest of your life. I'm 84 and I still play the piano at church and I love it!
6.50 pm Kingston Jamaica. I am 68 years old, and have ALWAYS wanted to learn to play. Started piano lessons at 11 years old but it was in the mornings before school and it just wasn't practical for tutor or myself. Just bought myself a 61 key, keyboard and have come up on your lesson. Thank you for doing this, it means a lot! God bless you.
You're really welcome! I hope the course helps - believe it or not, you should find that the childhood lessons do make a difference (I regularly hear from people who have had 40 or 50 year breaks from playing, but at least some of the muscle memory is still there). God bless, good luck, and let me know if you ever run into problems!
I'm 24, just bought a 61 keys keyboard and someone suggested me this playlist. i hope to learn a lot. It's always been a dream to learn piano and finally after all these years. Thanks for providing free high quality stuffs for broke students like me
I am so glad i found you, I had 30 min lessons for 12 weeks 5 years ago, she spent most of the time talking about things other than music, very nice lady but when I said I was a beginner she still seemed to think I knew about music, very strange. I stopped playing as not enough information for me, I did lean to play one piece but that was determination from me. Now I have found you and Wow I have learnt so much. I am now back on my key board again. Thank you so much for doing the videos, you are a very good teacher , its easy to understand, especially about the written music, I always found that difficult, its just practice like all the rest. Teaching is an art in its self and you have masted that at, thanks again .
Thanks for the kind words, Gwendoline - I'm glad you like my tutorials! If you ever have any questions or want help with something, just add a comment. It sometimes takes me a day or two to reply, but I always will. Good luck!
Hi Bill, Thank you for your lessons. I am 69, previous guitar hacker and singer (rock and blues), have decent grasp of music theory and bought a keyboard like I always wanted to. I took some sight reading lessons from a friend, bought your How to Really Play Piano book. I've been at it for 4.5 months now. At first I struggled but now it's coming much better. Your book is simply put and easy to understand. I'm enjoying the piano so much. Thank you
Thank you Bill - I've been searching for days trying to find a comprehensive easy to follow guide to learn the keyboard. I have wanted to learn since I was in my 20s, but somehow life got in the way, I've just turned 67 and my husband bought a keyboard for my birthday and I thank you for making it easy for me
I'm 20 and never liked music till I was about 18 and this easy to learn tutorial has provided that huge jump I was unconsciously yearning for . Feels like I'VE just bit that demon who didn't want me to find my passion all thanks to you Mr.Hilton u're genuinely God sent. Now I can gladly make use of the 61 teaching keyboard that my dad didn't think he was buying for me back then..😀
You're really welcome! Let me know how you get on with the course, and let me know if you ever run into any difficulties or have any questions. It's hard work, but the only thing you need to do to be successful is not give up! Good luck!
@@DoYouHaveCRPS Yep - though it kind of depends on your budget and the amount of space you have! The ideal is to get something that calls itself a "digital piano" (rather than just a keyboard) with weighted, touch-sensitive keys (so it plays like a real piano) and a sustain pedal. At the cheaper end of the market the latest range of Casios is pretty good; more mid-market the Roland FP series is excellent value for money. If you don't have the space/cash available for those, then really *anything* will do to start with, even a 61-key keyboard. But the closer you can get to the ideal I've described just there, the better!
Hello oldie, I'm a mere 66 and got the Yam CS synth a few days ago, total newbie but certainly am enthralled by all sorts of music. Its vital I think particularly in older years we keep on with studying, learning, new skills. Goodness knows how I will progress! What hooked me to explore further was realising the patterns of notes when written down, the repeats, the elaboration etc as if visual magic.
My daughter is 11 years old and has always wanted to play the keyboard. I bought her one for Xmas but as a single parent couldn't afford piano lessons. Thank you so much for these lessons. It means a lot to her.
I like this guy a lot! He is my first piano lessons teacher. I got here from his chords tutorial. It was so cool, I annointed him as my teacher and I'm starting from this video and going forward. I will prolly have an British accent shortly. Thanks Bill!

Bill Hilton can’t seem to download PDF.....I don’t have a printer, and therefor want all support work re lessons on my iPad Pro...but can’t figure out how to do it..your lessons at keyboard are so great...thank yu!
Hi Martha: thank you! You should be able to view the PDFs in your web browser on your iPad Pro - just head to www.billspianopages.com/beginners and click the relevant link, and it should load up right there and then in a browser window. Give me a shout back if that doesn't seem to work for any reason.
This is great, I’m used to the keyboards being numbered and not lettered so this is a first! I know how to read a bit of sheet music (due to being in choir before) and play songs like ode to joy, or happy birthday but I really want to play “when you wish upon a star”. You must have a passion and the patience to see improvement! Good luck everyone ☺️
Thank you sir! I had always wish to play the piano... couldn’t afford as a kid, and then too busy as a working adult. Alas, now at 62 very soon, I got myself a Casio PX-S1100 to be delivered today. I am full time caregiving for my dementia mother, so I hope later that my music playing is therapeutic for both of us. Having watched this first lesson, no reason why I should not take your lessons... clear and concise, patience and thoughtful 👍🙏
You're welcome, Frederick - I really hope my stuff helps you. Enjoy the new Casio, and give me a shout if you have any questions or need any guidance on any of this!
Dear Bill, nobody teaches like you. You are an amazingly skilful teacher who really enjoys teaching. Your teaching style is remarkable and you speak with crystal clear clarity. I can't thank you enough. A million thanks to you.
You are very welcome, Chandra - I certainly do enjoy it, and I enjoy it all the more when I hear from people who are benefitting from what I do. Thank you very much indeed for the kind words!

Hi! 17 year old here. Learning piano and any instrument whatsoever for the very first time. You’re incredibly underrated!! You’ve explained everything so clearly and I love how you divided this into levels. Subscribed right away. Thank you greatly for this
Just started watching. I played the piano for a few years when I was a kid and now haven't for over 10 years. So glad there are tutorial series like yours these days. Can't wait, it's gonna be fun! Thank you so much for making these.
I played piano for about 8 years when I was under the age of 15 but gave it up. Being in my forties, I decided to take it up again. I spent a few weeks watching one of the most watched youtube videos on learning piano but the gentleman's odd jokes and lessons started frustrating me for various reasons. Thank God, I found Bill. Much better to what I needed to pick it back up. I bought his book and things are much much better now. Plus Bill sounds like Above & Beyond, so it is much more enjoyable. Thank you from Atlanta, GA USA !!
Thanks very much indeed for the very kind words, Robert - I really appreciate them. Thanks too for buying the book. I hope you continue to make progress. Good luck, and give me a shout if you run into any problems!
My Keyboard has come out of the loft many times in the last 10 years. Finding your Piano for Beginners, I found your lesson 1 inspirational, starting from the VERY beginning. This time it's not going back. I'm gonna do It !!!!! Many thanks
Glad to hear it Mike - I hope the rest of the series works for you, too. Make sure you really, really focus on getting the basics absolutely instinctive: that way you make things easier for yourself as you get on to the more advanced stuff.
Thank you for taking the time to make these. They are very helpful and not confusing or overwhelming. I used to be reluctant to learn piano because it seemed so confusing but I had a lot of fun following along to this video. I am excited to learn more from you. Thank you so much! :-)
No problem Allison - glad to have been of help. Any questions you have, just post a comment on the relative tutorial. I always answer (...in the end - sometimes it takes a while!).
Just discovered you. I’m nearly 70 and a total beginner. Felt like a dill when listening to others who appear to be picking up and implementing concepts relatively fast whereas I am still hashing about weeks in. Like your structured method and am determined to keep at it.
Welcome to the channel! Basically your determination is what will get you through, here. If you look at what current research says about older learners, you’re more than capable of learning exactly what a 10-year-old can learn... it’s just going to take a bit more effort and commitment. The thing I always say to older learners is remember the advantage you have that the kids don’t: you’ve got far more grit and willingness than they have. Keep plugging away even if it seems impossible, give me a shout if you have any questions, and let me know how you get on!
❤Greetings, the last time I was taking piano lessons I was in Grade 2 - I’m almost 70. I was taught by nuns in Killaloe Station, Ontario, Canada.🇨🇦 Canadian by birth, 🇺🇸 citizen by choice!😊
I'm gonna take notes down as I go along with this series. I'm going to really try and get good at this. I'll play every now and then and know a couple songs but that's it. This is helping so far!
I've always wanted to learn the piano but was too busy. Now at 44 years old I knew lockdown in the UK was coming and I would have time on my hands, so bought myself a second hand keyboard and found these lessons on UA-cam. I'm only on lesson 2 but having loads of fun learning a completely new skill from scratch. The method of teaching is clear and it's very easy for a newbie to understand and follow! Thanks!
If you have always wanted to learn to play the piano but didn't know where to start, then this is for you... VISIT HERE: BestWay2LearnPiano.blogspot.com
There are several suggestions for how to learn piano Try practicing for 1 hour a day, or just half an hour if you are very busy. Do extra practice whenever you have more time. For example, on weekends you could do more than 1 hour, perhaps 2 or 3, or even more. (I read about these and more from Denelle Piano Lesson site )
I am 72 years old and have always wanted to learn piano. I have played a little by ear, but I want to learn the proper way. I found your lessons on UA-cam; your site looks like so much fun and we can go at our own pace. Thank you! I am really looking forward to starting this.
Good luck, Marie! You're actually a little on the young side compared to many of the people who are following this series, so I'm sure you'll do fine. Don't hesitate to give me a shout if you have any questions :)
Thank you so much Bill- I used to play 'very properly' for a good 10 years... but I last played 15 years ago! Seems playing the piano isn't quite like riding a bike, so these videos have been great refreshers for the note reading!
I totally found that out. I was practicing everyday for almost 6 months and I had an accident at work last year that messed up my right hand and I pretty much quit cause I couldn't use my right hand and didn't see the point of trying to practice with my left hand. Well I started back yesterday and forgot everything except the names of the keys. Highly discouraging but I'm kinda hoping it'll slowly start coming back to me as I start back at step 1.
I am a complete novice on piano and have watched several piano tutorials but I found them all very confusing and could not grasp what was being taught (I am 82 years old) but this one made things much clearer.
That's really good to hear, Bruce - thanks very much for taking the time to comment. Do let me know how you get on with the rest of the course, and feel free to run any questions past me: it sometimes takes a little while for me to reply, but I try to answer everyone! At 82 you're far from the oldest learner to have used them (in fact, you're something of a teenager compared to one or two...) so I hope you'll make good progress.
I just picked up a Yamaha keyboard (61 keys) - and I like how straight-forward and relatable this video is with teaching the fundamentals in bit size pieces. I feel a little less intimidated about diving right in to learn and build on the basic, and hopefully will work my way up to playing on an actual piano. Great video.
I'm finally finished with university and I have time outside of work again. Yesterday, my digital piano arrived and I will definitely give this playlist a go. I will definitely be self taught, no time for lessons and I do need to save some money for all those boring adult things like car and house deposit rather than spend it on lessons. But I can't wait to enjoy some hobbies again. I will definitely comment under other videos how I like these lessons!
Thanks Patricia! Stick with it: things take a little longer when you're starting out as a mature piano beginner, but although progress is slightly slower you learn just as surely as a youngster. Good luck!
don't feel bad Patricia I am 76 and just starting. Got my piano the other day and my daughter and husband set it up for me. Bill is very good, good luck with the lessons. Marge Ball
I was taught by my grandma but she forgets many things so I started self teaching myself more on UA-cam and your videos by far is helping me the most. I feel a little more confident and prepared to be on my church worship team. Thank you so much sometimes returning to the basics is all we need.
You're really welcome - it's always good to hear when my stuff helps people. And well done to your grandma - just goes to show that the older generations have a lot to pass on...!
I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano/keyboard. You must be a great teacher because I couldn't be more excited to continue this series of tutorials and slowly integrate the keyboard into my life. Sincerely, thank you so much! This is awesome!
Bill - because of your videos I built up the courage to finally go out and buy a keyboard. I have subscribed and plan on watching every single lesson and learning along with your teachings. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for lighting a spark in me that was so dim. I learned how to play the keyboard in middle school and instantly fell in love, haven't been able to ever forget about how amazing it was to be able to play "piano". Being a part of the lower-middle class I did not get the chance to touch another keyboard until today when I was able to purchase one on my own. I have already printed out the diagram of the keys -- LOVE the supplemental resources you have provided for us. Please, keep doing what you are doing - I'm 29 and you have inspired me so I can only imagine the younger generation! You are appreciated!
You're really welcome, Liliana - it's always good to hear that my stuff is making a difference. If you ever have any questions about it or difficulties with it, just let me know. I always reply (though sometimes it takes a little while!)
Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial. I went to music lessons 25 years ago and stopped before I got very far. I am now 85 and think this is great for exercising my fingers and my brain. Ahead with lesson 2!
Thanks for the kind words, Joyce! There are quite a few learners of more mature years working through the course and seemingly benefitting from it, so I hope it works for you. Do feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions!
Bass player who wants to know more about music theory - and the keyboard seems a great way into that - really appreciate these quality videos and will further at your linked resources. Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and content.
I've tried to learn piano twice before, but I felt like I was missing some fundamental concepts that the tutorials weren't explaining. This tutorial has been very helpful and I'm looking forward to finishing the series!
Thanks very much - I'm really glad it helped! Good luck with the series, and give me a shout if you have any questions or run into any problems. Quite a few people have been all the way through it now, so I have a good sense of where people tend to run into problems. The number one piece of advice I would give you is don't race through the early tutorials, even if they seem (relatively) easy - the stronger a foundation you build with the earlier ones, and the more instinctive you make the skills that they cover, the better the chance you have of continuing to make progress when things get tougher (which seems to be around lesson 8 or 9 for most people). I wish I'd made more of a big deal of getting that message across in these early videos! Like I said, any help you need, give me a yell 👍
Thank you! This is helping me a lot. I was recently reunited with a piano I had bought new back in 1977. I moved from the US to Japan a few years later and had to leave the piano behind with my folks. After they passed away I had it shipped to me and now, 45 years later, I'm starting all over again, with the same piano but in a country where there are few English speaking piano teachers. They all teach the Doe-Ray-Me scales here rather than the A-B-C scales which I find easier. So, I thank you for this online course. With it I'm sure I can be my own teacher and not have to worry about the local music customs. BTW, the big takeaway for me in the first lesson was how to memorize the key letters in backwards order. Was always difficult for me in the past.
Thank you so much for these videos. I am just starting to learn how to play piano, and have been looking for a good piano tutorial on UA-cam to follow. Your videos are extremely clear, simple, and helpful. I already subscribed, and look forward to future lessons!
Thanks Korey! The piano for beginners series is going to run for most of this year (probably), so with little luck we should be able to give you a pretty comprehensive grounding :)
Since I was a kid, I really wanted to learn how to play the piano but didn't have time and no money because life.. I am 31 and my very first keyboard will arrive this weekend. It's a CASIO CT-S1. Pretty exciting. It's gonna be difficult for sure but that's okay. Reddit says a lot likes this channel so I'll go through this beginner's playlist and try my best to learn. Good luck to us new folks here!
Good luck indeed! Enjoy the CT-S1 - I played one a little while ago, and it's a very good value bit of kit for learners. If the package you've ordered doesn't include a sustain pedal, you might find it helps to get one when you're about halfway through the course. As you develop your skills you'll probably ultimately want to upgrade to a full-size keyboard/piano btw, but the CT-S1 will get you through at least the first couple of years. Let me know how you get on, and especially if you have any questions. A lot of people do seem to get through the course, and I hope you'll be one of them!
Excited to find you. I took lessons as a kid, but at 70 I've forgotten it all. Just bought a keyboard yesterday predominantly for rehabilitation of fingers and wrist. Hopefully, I'll be able to manage it!
I am a guitarist and I chose to learn the piano as well in order to develop more in music. I am really grateful to you for these free lessons that you are giving us! Thank you very mach!!!!!
LESSON 1 DAILY PRACTICE Level 1: 04:22 • Play notes from A to G with your right hand. • When you play a note, say it aloud • Vary the fingers you use and the order in which you play the notes. Level 2: 05:09 • Same as Level 1 but with your left hand. Level 3: 06:30 • Use fingers of each hand in order, starting with your right hand thumb. • Name the finger you are using, think of a note, name that too. • Play the note four times with that finger. • Work through all of the fingers of right and left hand. Level 4: 07:17 • Think of a note, hit two of the notes using the same finger on each hand. Level 5: 07:43 • Start with your right thumb, pick a note and play consecutive white notes up from it, then come down. • Repeat the above plenty of times. • Aim to play the notes with same length and loudness. • Alternate between naming your fingers and naming the notes. • Same as above but starting with your left thumb. Pick a note and play consecutive white notes down from it, then come up. Practice daily.
O wow. I was looking on youtube for fill beginners lessons but all of them only do the first 2 steps , but by the look of this you have a compleet beginners guide (i gonna start with them today) I guess i can say for everyone who dont have the means to pay for lessons , THANK YOU sir. All the best from the netherlands
Really glad I’ve found this. Purchased a keyboard a year ago, set it up and it’s been collecting dust ever since. Learning something new as an adult is always hard. Looking forward to this journey with you
Recently bought a piano but I'm clueless on how to play it. Found your channel and I am delighted to find out your tutorial will be a for the whole of 2017. Thank you so much!
Greetings from Malaysia. Thank you very much for your generous sharing. I just retired and have always wanted to be able to play the piano. I find your reaching very easy to follow which gives me the extra motivation to learn. God bless.
And greetings in return from North Yorkshire! You're very welcome: let me know how you get on, and also let me know if you have any questions or problems!
Thank you for providing all of these in depth lessons for free! I have a lot of self taught piano habits and this is really good for me to re-learn the right way. Lesson 1 complete!
Thank you, Bill, for this great video. These basic (to some) lessons really help drill the idea and mechanics in. One tip that I found which has helped me is to start one direction on the keyboard and then once comfortable, I will move around. For example - in lesson 3, using both L & R finger 3, play E starting at the bottom, and play towards the top. Repeat, but playing from top to bottom. Once I've done this several times and it begins to sink in, then I will play different E notes jumping around. Also, if I find myself hitting the wrong note or making mistakes and getting frustrated, I'll take a break for a moment, take a few deep breaths and try to clear my head. Then I come back to the lesson and start again, but forcing myself to take it slower. Learning accuracy first then speed will follow.
Yes! Excellent tips - basically anything that can mix things up a bit and help you remember the foundational stuff at this stage will make a difference. It's a good idea to get the foundations nailed tight, tight down: a lot of people kind of race through the early lessons and then get a little stuck around lesson 8, when things get more demanding, because they haven't really made the basics instinctive. Keep up the good work and let me know how you get on!
I just started today with my new keyboard and really it's amazing I learned the keys names easily.. Thank you Mr. Bill you are a great teacher I won't go to lesson 2 until I feel easy to find all keys without thinking lol.. Really appreciate your help
Just starting after multiple attempts at trying to learn individual songs, finally giving up each time due to frustration. Decided to learn properly and already can tell these lessons will be fantastic!
Thanks for this video, very clear and most importantly fun! Bought a keyboard 2 years ago and only got the courage to step into it recently, I'll be goin through your vids weekly, thanks
I love your train your piano brain series! As a self learning beginner, those videos really helped me a lot to attain at least some basic level of hand independence.
I'm fifteen and just bought my sister's keyboard and can't wait to begin learning to play music with it. This is by far the best tutorial I've seen for beginners on UA-cam, and it's easy for me to understand you even though I'm from Norway. Thank you so much!
I recently got a Keyboard and am learning how to play it on the Simply Piano app, and although it is a great app, I knew I was missing a teacher. Your videos have been so helpful for my learning! Its only been 2 weeks since I started, but combining the tips you give and the theory you explain along with the daily practice from the app (which your videos help with, A LOT!), is making me a better player. Thank you for the videos and the resources you have shared with us!
I learned to play the basics of the harmonium as a child but it wasn't fun at all. You make it look easy to learn the piano. Looking forward to my next lesson after enough practice. Thank you Bill!
As a drummer who studied classical snare drum and then drum set exercises, I became adept at reading multiple rhythmic lines for all 4 limbs. As a total piano novice, I''m now on lesson 8 and initially have to work out each melodic note I see sometimes still using the egbdf, and gbdfa mnemonics. Once I work out the piece, I find then that I am more comfortable playing it by memory rather than looking at the notes. At what point does note recognition on sight become natural? I chose your lessons over others available because I liked the disciplined approach I was introduced to while studying classical snare drum pieces with a member of a major philharmonic. Thanks for the excellent approach you use to teach piano!!!!
Fireniner3 is bang on the money there - it's something that gradually comes as you do more and more of this stuff. The trick is to enjoy the process rather than to aim at some distant point of "being able to sightread". Reading ability is a very long continuum of competence: I know pianists who can pretty much sightread most music apart from the really demanding stuff. I can sightread to a certain level, but the tougher the music the more my accuracy fades! The thing to aim for is reading that gradually becomes more confident, in among all the other musical skills you're working on. Does that all make sense?
@@BillHilton Hi Bill, Thank you for your quick response. Yes, your answer makes sense. I'm on lesson 8 now in your beginners tutorial, it is getting slightly easier to work out a piece like Dance. I take it a bar at a time and have to slowly position my fingers properly while figuring out where the notes are. Actually it is like completing a phonic puzzle and when it begins to flow it's gratifying. I have a good attitude as I mentioned from remembering my experience growing toward proficiency to play classical pieces for the snare drum. I understand, and I guess it's expected, learning the piano is more challenging! Will be purchasing your book because I gravitated to jazz drum set playing after my classical training and am eager to move in that direction too on the piano. By the way I'm 75 and stopped playing drums 30 years ago so my brain is getting a good workout.
A deceptively simple exercise, I knew the note names already but level one proved to me I needed to think first before playing the note. I made the exercise more random by using an online spinning letter wheel to pick the note. Thumbs up.
These lessons are really useful! Especially during quarantine, I’m only just getting into playing so this was really useful cant wait to watch the rest of the lessons!
I have just bought a yamaha keyboard last week and have been looking at various lessons and stuff, thank you so much for making these videos, they will be a great help :)
Bill thank you so much for these lessons they’re perfectly made and easy to follow. After I’ve picked keyboard up a few times, I can say this is by far the best and easiest to digest and I’m feeling a sense of achievement with every lesson!!! Thank you!!!!
I played violin throughout school and always wanted to learn piano, so I recently bought one and started looking up online tutorials. I've looked at a few, and this is the one I'm landing on! I really like your approach to the lesson and am very excited to keep going!
Excellent, ive come and gone from your channel in the past months, but now that the keyboard has become my main life focus other than Work, i have subscribed and hope your teachings will give me the beginners boost i need, before i start paying for lessons in the new year from a local teacher :)
Good luck! If you want to make steady, strong progress, a real live piano teacher cannot be beaten - hopefully, though, all the stuff on my channel will help you to back up and improve your knowledge and skills. Even if you're mostly interested in styles like pop and jazz, work hard at the classical material your planning teacher is likely to cover - it provides an unbeatable foundation for learning the instrument :)
Bill Hilton oh classical will be fine. I aspire to play some George Winston, Scott Joplin, Franz Lizst, among others some day, purely for leisure. I will likely have a main focus on classical, but it's nice to have a little bit of everything over time. There are plenty of film scores and video game soundtracks that inspire me to push on each day. Since commenting on this video, I have acquired a few used beginners books from a charity shop, as well as a lined a4 note book and a blank stave book, which I have copied your PDFs from your site into because I don't have a printer. Writing them out by hand has greatly improved my understanding of which note is which as I write it. Keep up the good videos Bill 😊 I'll keep you posted on what you help me achieve.
This is going to be fun & frustrating all at the same time. Ever since i was a kid i've wanted to play a keyboard, now i'm finally about to start learning at 55
John I have started to learn at 76 and its fun
Ishaq Merchant that’s awesome
Lovely video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Possessing Piano Remedy (search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to play the piano easily minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend Sam at very last got astronomical success with it.
I see your post is a year ago, I’m 69and just starting. I’m very interested in how you’ve progressed and did you find it difficult to follow as you advanced.
I'm 48 and just started. Hope you are all doing well?
😃😃😃
Whats the progress @mabrun001
Hi Bill,
I've never learnt to play piano (as my teacher refused to teach me when 13 at school as I told her I wanted to learn rock&roll songs). She only taught classical music. So I taught myself guitar and written numerous songs on guitar. But your tutorials look interesting. I've bought a digital piano by selling some of my songs so going to learn from your videos. I only know basic music theory so your piano videos look interesting. Thank you for your content.
Best,
Roberto.
I am in similar situation with you!😀Let's enjoy piano and make our life happier.
Im 15 yrs and i been playing piano for about 2 weeks now i take private lessons and i want to play piano for my church and my favorite songs wish good luck 😁.
Good luck, and remember to practise hard - it takes time, but it always pays off!
hey man how is it going 1 month in?
Thanks for providing free high quality stuffs for broke students like me
Hi! how's the progress?
Hello, what keyboard did you choose for learning? Any suggestions?

For almost a week, looking for someone on UA-cam to learn with playing a piano and finally found him... Thank you
I am so glad i found you, I had 30 min lessons for 12 weeks 5 years ago, she spent most of the time talking about things other than music, very nice lady but when I said I was a beginner she still seemed to think I knew about music, very strange.

Good luck!
@@BillHiltonCan you suggest a keyboard to begin with? Thank you so much
@@DoYouHaveCRPS Yep - though it kind of depends on your budget and the amount of space you have! But the closer you can get to the ideal I've described just there, the better!
providing it free of cost is really helpfun and loved it .
Thank you for this. 67 yrs old and just bought my first digital piano. Trying to teach myself how to play. Stay tuned....
You're welcome! Good luck, and let us all know how you get on!
Thanks!
Thank you very much indeed!
My daughter is 11 years old and has always wanted to play the keyboard. I bought her one for Xmas but as a single parent couldn't afford piano lessons. Thank you so much for these lessons. It means a lot to her.
You're really welcome, Samantha - let me know how she gets on, and give me a shout if you ever have any questions!
I like this guy a lot! He is my first piano lessons teacher. I got here from his chords tutorial. It was so cool, I annointed him as my teacher and I'm starting from this video and going forward. I will prolly have an British accent shortly. Thanks Bill!

I’m glad you like it! Good luck, and let me know how you get on. You should find the choral experience really helps, btw.
Thank you sir! I had always wish to play the piano... couldn’t afford as a kid, and then too busy as a working adult. Alas, now at 62 very soon, I got myself a Casio PX-S1100 to be delivered today. Having watched this first lesson, no reason why I should not take your lessons... clear and concise, patience and thoughtful 👍🙏

Just started watching.
I played the piano for a few years when I was a kid and now haven't for over 10 years. So glad there are tutorial series like yours these days. Can't wait, it's gonna be fun!
Thank you so much for making these.
No problem at all - good luck, and shout if you have any questions!

This was one of the only piano lesson videos that actually helped, thank you!
You're really welcome - good luck with the rest of the course!

After trying for years to learn piano I came across Denelle piano lesson and this appears to be the best online system (check it out on google)
There are several suggestions for how to learn piano
Try practicing for 1 hour a day, or just half an hour if you are very busy.
Do extra practice whenever you have more time. For example, on weekends you could do more than 1 hour, perhaps 2 or 3, or even more.
(I read about these and more from Denelle Piano Lesson site )
i like it!

I ime it too
I am 72 years old and have always wanted to learn piano.
Glad it's helping, Terri - let me know how you get on, and shout if you have any questions!
I have had at least seven different ways of “learning piano” including 3 differnt teachers. This is the BEST BY FAR and it’s free! Thank you so much!
It's always my desire to learn how to play the keyboard. I'm really grateful for these free lessons.
You're very welcome Joyce!
Thanks Denise, and I hope you find the rest of the series useful. Give me a shout if you have any questions. And good luck!
Please do - and give me a yell if you ever have any questions or run into problems. Good luck!
The best tutorials I have come across , very clear and precise , thank you , ( by the way I am 65 and just learning !!) Thanks Bill

My god this is incredible, thank you!! As a music student without private lessons, this is phenomenal. Thank you so much!!
No problem at all - really glad you found it useful. Hopefully you'll follow the whole series!
Hi 👋
Ok, great!
Are this one a real free lessons or after the first lesson we are going to pay ?
Good luck, Mary - give me a shout if you need any help at any stage!
I am a guitarist and I chose to learn the piano as well in order to develop more in music. I am really grateful to you for these free lessons that you are giving us! Thank you very mach!!!!!

• Same as Level 1 but with your left hand.
Level 3: 06:30

Level 4: 07:17
• Think of a note, hit two of the notes using the same finger on each hand.

You’re really welcome! Let me know how you get on, and don’t hesitate to give me a shout if you have any questions at any stage.
Thank you Bill Hilton!! I’m literally an absolutely beginner and can’t wait to get stuck in :)
i am forever grateful that kind hearted people like you are on this earth because not many drop 27 lessons about piano
Everyone who teaches anything should be mandated to have a soothing British accent like this.
Jolly true, old boy!
@@BillHilton I purchased a dgx670 yesterday. I’ll be using all of your instructional videos. Thanks for making these
@@cargopilotguy305 You're welcome, and good luck: give me a shout if you need any help with anything. The DGX range is outstanding - excellent choice!
Glad to hear you're finding it useful, Troy. Next installments of the beginners' series should be out over the next 10 days or so.
My new years resolution for 2020 was learn the piano. I'm going to use these as a guide, will report back in Jan 2021.....
Same, but Imma report every 1 month
@@ashleyhatice258 I was worried month to month I wouldn't improve enough but maybe I'll match you... 🤔
Good luck, both of you!
Thank you for providing all of these in depth lessons for free! I have a lot of self taught piano habits and this is really good for me to re-learn the right way. Lesson 1 complete!
third time coming back to this series since I started producing, I know I can't keep on going without these melodic powers
Welcome back Jonah - I guess you're finding it useful!
I am so looking forward to this! Amazing man!
You're welcome Dania!
Here to learn.. I've had a desire to play for so long. Thank you for creating this platform.
You're really welcome!
you’re a legend. this is gonna be my new hobby for quarantine. thanks bill 👍🏽
You're welcome, Natalie!
I am restarting to play keyboard all over again after ages , glad that I found you!!
I love your train your piano brain series! As a self learning beginner, those videos really helped me a lot to attain at least some basic level of hand independence.
Thanks for simplifying reading music I am 76 always wanted to read music great job
Just got my keyboard. I retired in December and learning the piano is one of my retirement goals. Thanks for making it an easy start. :)
You're welcome, Jamie - glad to have helped. Good luck with it, and let me know if you ever have any questions/need pointing in the right direction!
Played around for years with one or two fingers, but now its time to learn, this seems like a good place to start. Thanks
I'm fifteen and just bought my sister's keyboard and can't wait to begin learning to play music with it. This is by far the best tutorial I've seen for beginners on UA-cam, and it's easy for me to understand you even though I'm from Norway. Thank you so much!
No problem Kristian - I hope you make good progress!
You're welcome, Sandhya! You should find that those harmonium basics come in at least a little bit handy. Let me know how you get on!
Your teaching style seems like a match to my learning pattern.
I think I would need a sharpie pen to label my fingers and the keys
A deceptively simple exercise, I knew the note names already but level one proved to me I needed to think first before playing the note. I made the exercise more random by using an online spinning letter wheel to pick the note. Thumbs up.
These lessons are really useful! Especially during quarantine, I’m only just getting into playing so this was really useful cant wait to watch the rest of the lessons!
Glad you like them, Archie - shout if you ever have any questions!
You're welcome, Heather. Keep plugging away, and shout if you have any questions!
I played violin throughout school and always wanted to learn piano, so I recently bought one and started looking up online tutorials. I've looked at a few, and this is the one I'm landing on! I really like your approach to the lesson and am very excited to keep going!
thank you so much. Having fun here. (Beginner like me). I buy 61 key Piano keyboard and i want to learn more of it.
Amazing lesson! I've be trying some introductions in a wile and this one makes me believe that I can actually learn.
thank you teacher
You're welcome Gabriel!
Keep up the good videos Bill 😊
I'll keep you posted on what you help me achieve.
