What the hell is with Marines marrying 400 lb monsters? Something to hide behind when getting shot at? Just so you don't have to field day once a week? Idiots.
ClaytonFilpo That's some sound advice for Marines when on leave, especially at the bar. Don't go looking for the baddest looking guy there to establish dominance, and make sure to survey your surroundings. Because however bad you might think you are.. There are always more experienced combat vets/operators , who are more than willing to educate you.
The only easy day was yesterday hated that crap, made squared away dogs look like idiots. Glad I wasn't part of that shit. Nonetheless, I'm glad we're all on the same side.
I once watched a young marine in a local country bar get his nose broke with his own dress shoe. He was in his blues acting hard all night. Felt bad for him but he probably learned something important.
Daniel8781 On the flip side though, how much shit did the other guy get in for assaulting a United States Marine? Just a regular assault would put you in a world of hurt, but assaulting a Military personnel?
Felipe Bernardes, it'd be different if it was in combat, but in a bar? The Marine has no greater legal protection than the other Joe civilian around him.
Felipe Bernardes ya man a lot of marines can’t fight, most of them would get smoked by any armature mma fighter or boxer...shit maybe even a tough ass hockey player.
As a marine I served from 2002-2006. I did make some of these mistakes, and learned. When I became an NCO I finally learned. My marines would blow their entire paycheck on cars, jewelry, fashion, and countless other stupid shit. But we live and learn. Listen to this devildog, and take the advice...
In the barracks anything you want to keep you better lock up and secure. Each barracks room is a super highway for everyone in the Battalion. The only privacy you will get is on the weekends, when everybody is gone. Also don't get Marine Moto tattoos until you have a few years in or the salty Marines will tear you a new one everytime they see it.
That boot high wore off quick for me and I felt he next big thing was for me to PT myself twice a day. Gave up soda and energy drink. Start saving etc. Not gonna like the schoolhouse gets boring and depressing as fuck. But recognize it and build from it. Solid advice from you sir !
On the note of "don't get too cocky", I'm currently in the DEP (ship out march 20th) and one of my high school friends who graduated a year after me recently got home from boot camp ( I didn't decide to join until after a year of college). So he came to PT with us and we were doing ground wrestling and he and our recruiter were showing us some MCMAP moves and stuff and he immediately volunteers me to fight him cuz he thought he could beat my ass. He ended up on the ground in a choke hold after lunging at me all crazy like lmao. He's still a cocky SOB though.
I learned about the cockiness the hard way... I was called a ‘sellout’ by the criminal element in Philadelphia when I went into Boot Camp. I came home to find a house full of thugs ready for a fight. After my beat-down, I used strategy. They were determined to get me killed or incarcerated. The next encounter, I called the authorities and got the watch commander...a former Marine. The thugs tried to set me up, but the officers countered with a plant (they had ran an early sting operation to catch them.) This was 30 years ago...but the wise advice you give rings true, Clayton.
InsanelyDun literally me haha, I have an upgrade so I’m just going to go get me that. The car can wait, sure I’ll start saving now, but I’m waiting until after mos school so I know where I’ll be
one of my uncles was in the Marine Corps for a year, after he went through Boot camp MCRD SanDiego California. he went to one of the porn stores in town and he bought four blow up girls and he put them in his footlocker. well to make a long story short his Gunny found out about his strange things and they sent him to the Navy Hospital Mental health ward, where the Doctor there labled him a Social path and unfit to be a Marine so they gave him a Medical condition discharge. now he is 100 per cent disabled from the VA and he gets over 3,000 a month from them. they also found in his footlocker all his bras and panties he was wearing under his Uniform.
Tammy Gacek im calling bullshit. unless he retired which means hed have to be in for several years 20+ in order to get a rank high enough to get that much a month in retirement checks. the military isnt going to pay your uncle 3000 a month becaude he turned out to be mentally unfit and possibly transgender after "a year"?
Thanks for the advice, I'm 14 now and planning to join the marines. Though I might not be able to join because of a health problem I've had since birth and can't fix at the moment, but there's hope that I may be able to get it fixed with some surgery.

Rule # 5 stay away from the SHITBIRDS don't make friends with them and most importantly *don't be one*
Outstanding advice Devil, I feel the need to add that these mistakes all come after the initial mistakes. For example, getting motivated by the commercials, going to the recruiter, believing the recruiter, signing up as an 0311 because it looks so fucking cool in the brochure, wasting your last days of freedom by going to poolee functions, getting on the plane, getting on the bus, asking your senior DI about your "signing bonus", asking your senior DI anything... Semper Fi
A lot of the time it isn't theft for the usual reasons, what happens is that someone loses a piece of gear so in order to cover up their loss and/or have something to turn in when they check out of the unit or the Corps they steal from someone else. It's a vicious circle really but it has little to do with greed, plus Marines have a long tradition of stealing anything that isn't nailed down.
If there’s anything my DI hates, it’s an unlocked footlocker. I KNOW that. Wait, I’m a civilian and that was in a movie. I can eat all the jelly donuts I want. WTF?
Hazing have been bared if people byet caught hazing they face trouble due to some hazing going to far. Also trust me gruntos won't get u any where once ur out u can't use that most for anything. It better to find a mos that u can do in and outside the Marines that what I did
This goes for USAF as well...absolutely no new car, no marriage until after your first 4 years, no college until you are fully trained, do not, do not, get out of shape, watch your appetite. Even if don't plan to make it a career...perform as though you are aiming for CMSgt or SGTMAJ. 5:07
Hey Clayton! I know this isn't related to the video, but I plan on joining the Marine Corps because I can't see myself becoming anything else, and it's always been a dream of mine to join the military, specifically the Marines. That being said, I know getting your preferred MOS is difficult, but you still get to give your preferences and pick the field. What would you recommend for someone that enjoys politics and economics? By the way, I love the videos man, keep up the good work!
+Quentin Rucker good to hear! I'm shipping in a month and people are giving me a hard time, trying to scare me out of it. I like seeing people come out of it like you, it's relieving.

My childhood friend Randy ordered a mustang just before he re-enlisted (Army) and was shipped to Iraq. Sadly he was killed a few weeks after arriving in Iraq and never even saw the mustang. Another friend I met in boot camp (Navy) ended up stationed in Norfolk not on the same ship as me but I ran into him and we went to the mall on occasion splitting the cab fare, he would go into the music store every time and buy like 500 dollars worth of CDs.
Great advices not only for marines but for those of you starting a new jobs. Don't go all out spending that hard earned money. Wait until you have passed your probatory period.
The only thing I will do after boot camp will be eat a lot all I can but obviously not in a restaurant I prefer my moms, or grandmother even my mother in law food before that XD
What? The Marines get 10 days leave after boot? In the Navy I got one day then I started A School right after that. Oh well, your boot camp was definitely worse than mine. XD
I didn't know one person that got the 10 days completely off. You typically have to do recruiter assistant. The Corps loves to send you back and talk to your high school and walk around the malls.
If get get assigned to RA, then you are home for 17 days, but the last 7 you are working with your recruiter. Everyone gets the 10 days off following boot camp.
I completely bombed the colorblind test at meps. They then gave me an alternate test that was extremely easy. All it was was two colored dots stacked on top of each other and you had to say which dot was the color that the instructor asked you to pick. It is really easy, they'll ask you "yellow one, top or bottom?" And the colors will be like bright yellow and bright red. Someone who is extremely colorblind could pass it easily and now I'm a poolee with an open infantry contract.
So what if I buy a 02-04 Mustang GT. Wouldn't break the bank and would finish paying it off in a few months. Or should I wait till I just have the cash to buy it? Usually got from 4-5k depending on condition and miles.
To be true it won't matter cash or bank u have a right to buy what u want it's ur money and as. Marine the only thing I can tell u is buy u car from a lot not close to base u get a better deal and lower rate ones by base will charge u more cause they know u have the money to pay
Hi my name is Maria and I wanna enlist in the Marines and I'm not so sure what job to pick I love doing a lot of things and not so sure what to choose is there any way to find out what each job does?
Nope. The closest thing to doing that is going to OCS (Officer Candidate School), graduating but turning down the commission. Another thing, you do realize that the vast majority of the military, that includes the Marines and Army, consists of jobs that don't involve fighting and the only time you'll handle a rifle after boot camp (and MCT if you join the Corps) is during your annual rifle qualification. For every person out there pulling a trigger, driving a tank, firing artillery, etc. there's at least 3 - 4 people supporting that person.
You don't retire after four years. You have to make it 20 years to retire. If you only do one enlistment, about all you get is the GI bill. If you retire after 20-30 years, you do get a retirement check, based on how long you were in, and what rank you achieved.
You pay for food here or there for your room, but you get breakfast, lunch and dinner at the chow hall. So the majority of your food is already paid for. As far as living situation, you'll live in a barracks.
I do agree completely. But I do have a question. I am going to join the National Guard and after my basic and everything I need to, uses that money for down payment to buying a home. Is that a good idea or don't go for that?
What do you recommend spending money on after boot camp? Buying new uniform gear, head gear etc. I heard standard issue uniform and gear isn't the best for recruits besides for. the guide
+Andy Nguyen Issued gear is perfectly fine. I urge you to save your money, don't buy a bunch of uniform items, and just enjoy your time with family during boot leave
Don't worry about uniforms. Seriously, you get them issued to you at boot camp. Go to mct. They'll just get dirty again there. Then buy new cammies at mos school
Clayton or anyone else. Does the PX still offer military members a line of credit? When I served in the 1990s it was called DPP. You mentioned about some Marines not having to budget before. Some new Marines got into trouble with DPP when I was in. Yes I applied for and was approved (who wasn't?) for DPP at Camp Pendleton during MCT. I didn't go overboard with it. It was nice to have when needed ☺
ClaytonFilpo It was like an instore credit card that could be used at any US PX's and BX's throughout the world. If I remember correctly DPP stood for Delayed Payment Program aka Dumb Privates Program. Some new Marines maxed out their credit, failed to pay and well they got in trouble like dumb privates ☺
ClaytonFilpo Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure things haven't changed with the PX credit card. Just like the Ford Mustangs, that was spot on and so true 20 years ago, lmao!! Those off base car dealerships 😣
I mean, it depends. You can't keep it in your barracks room or car. You have to store it in the armory and check it out any time you want to shoot it. To me, that kinda sucks -- but if you really love shooting then it's worth it and plenty of people do it.
Clayton so the job you had in the marine corps how did you get it and also how hard is the selection? I'm interested in reasearch and a possible job move after my four years of security forces
Could you PLEASE make a video on graduating honors. How could i try to acheive that? it would be my DREAM. im leaving for BC to PI on 07032016. So shy of 3 weeks out! Thanks Clayton. lots of information!
Hey Ace, the absolute best lookin Mustang is a 1969 Mach 1 with a 428/429 engine, a big 4 barrel carb. But hey that ancient stuff now. I had one with a 428 cobra engine, 4 barrel carb and a 4 speed. They hadn't discovered that extra fifth or sixth gear then. Oh well, like I said ancient history
It's not that it's bad. In fact, being motivated is good, 100%. BUT, it gets old to see the external motivation. For example, if someone likes cats, then that's totally cool. But when they love cats so much that they wear kitten sweaters everywhere and only talk about their cat named 'princess,' then people get annoyed. Same thing happens with motivation. You can totally be motivated, but keep that shit to yourself and use it only when necessarily. Otherwise you look like a crazy cat person. Idk if this analogy helps. But, main point is motivation is good, being overly motivated and annoying is not good.
John marshall it's just the culture dude, Marines don't give a shit if you're a Marine. They already know because of your fucked up haircut. A lot of the moto shit does seem cheesy. Anyway have fun in recruit training, semper fi.
Maybe when you're home on leave you might want to wear that stuff but on base or in town near base the last thing you want to do is look like a boot. On base no one cares you're a Marine and in towns around base, a lot of people resent Marines so it's better to be low key and not look the part--except the haircut. Hard to escape that.
Hey clayton im about to turn 17 and i have not completed high school and the marine corps website says that you have to have a high school diploma or about to graduate i was wondering if you could clarify
Those aren't really exclusive to Marines. I was 24 when I joined the Air Force and saw plenty of kids making those mistakes. In the AF we don't get leave between basic and tech school (at least 13 years ago when I went through) so it was all one big training. I remember getting to my first duty assignment and one of the kids fresh out of training went off and bought a brand new Lexus with all the options. The car was easily $50000, the payments and insurance were taking up about 2/3rds of his pay. From what I heard, the dealer wouldn't take it back and the First Sergeant and Commander had to get involved.
The getting too cocky out of Boot Camp is real shit. I was older when I enlisted ( I was 30 but a fucking PT stud) I was more mature and more secure with who I was, understood myself, I had already been humbled a few times in my life and knew to stay confident and humble, but not cocky. Most of those kids did not and I know of three who got the shit beat out of them on their 10 day leave smfh.
Well I don't see what's wrong with buying a new car or buy stuff for the brks they earned the money and they will get more as there time go. As a Marine I habe to disagree with a lot u said
Barracks life isn't bad at all. It's like living at a motel, or hotel. I got a fridge and a microwave. Not bad at all. And they aren't Mustangs, they're bootstangs.
don't worry about what he says about buying moto gear. I bought moto gear something like a shirt with the name of the base I was stationed on. buy moto gear there's nothing wrong with it. you don't have to buy every moto shirt the store/exchange has. I wore them when we pt''d in rainbow/civilian attire. if your friends say something about you wearing Marine shirts at PT (physical training) all the time tell them you don't want to run your good shirts exercising in them.
Always wanted to become a marine but my thyroid medication stopped that is there anyway around that? I’m a bit of now 25 I don’t know the age limit but wanted to be a Marine all my life

can colorblind people be any infantry mos or are they limited?
Very limited
I completely bombed the colorblind test at meps. They then gave me an alternate test that was extremely easy. All it was was two colored dots stacked on top of each other and you had to say which dot was the color that the instructor asked you to pick. It is really easy, they'll ask you "yellow one, top or bottom?" And the colors will be like bright yellow and bright red. Someone who is extremely colorblind could pass it easily and now I'm a poolee with an open infantry contract.

I'm not going to hate on your completely legitimate question but... you could have googled that.
Loving this new upload schedule bro! Keep it up :)
thank you for your service, I genuinely appreciate it!
So what if I buy a 02-04 Mustang GT. Wouldn't break the bank and would finish paying it off in a few months. Or should I wait till I just have the cash to buy it? Usually got from 4-5k depending on condition and miles.
just wait till you have the cash. that's what I've always done and probably will do
To be true it won't matter cash or bank u have a right to buy what u want it's ur money and as.
+Maria Ochoa Mr. Google will help you, but first it's easier to identify what you already enjoy and have a passion/interest in
thank you
Is there a way I can do bootcamp but not join the army? I just want to see if I can do it but im not sure I want to actually go out and fight yet.
ferrret spartan reserves?
For every person out there pulling a trigger, driving a tank, firing artillery, etc. there's at least 3 - 4 people supporting that person.
ferrret spartan train for American Ninja Warrior! Will give you the adrenaline rush you seek without any commitment to the military.
I have an question, I wanna join the marines for 4yrs, when I retire do I still get paid?
You don't retire after four years. You have to make it 20 years to retire. If you only do one enlistment, about all you get is the GI bill. If you retire after 20-30 years, you do get a retirement check, based on how long you were in, and what rank you achieved.
Anonymous Expect us dont join...Sounds like your just interested in the pay instead of actually being a Marine
If your number comes up like mine did, one CAN retire--------------If you fight hard enough!
if you're interested in pay only just join any other branch but the Marines. Quality over quantity.
Anonymous Expect us yes you get a check every month
How long do you have to live in the barracks cuz i want to be an embassy marine gaurd
What if you want to do the reserves?
do you have to pay for food and stay in the barracks/base?
You pay for food here or there for your room, but you get breakfast, lunch and dinner at the chow hall. So the majority of your food is already paid for. As far as living situation, you'll live in a barracks.
Thanks
Yo good video Clayton!
Thanks bro
Damn man so true. I know you only mentioned MCT but SOI is the same way once they decide to give you a 48 hour limbo.
they say "OORAH" to fucking much
u don't say it enough
You must learn the secret oorah power up. You use it when you run out of ammo to turn into the A team
Or just don't run out of booze, smokes, or ammunition and there is no problem
Oorah!
I do agree completely. But I do have a question. I am going to join the National Guard and after my basic and everything I need to, uses that money for down payment to buying a home. Is that a good idea or don't go for that?
Lol so ive been planning to just by essentials and if my friends buy a car or something I could just catch a ride with them every now and then
I broke my left clavicle in 2015 and had plates put in and they want to take them out this year will I still be able to join?
+Brenden Trejo most likely not, but that's up to your doctor really
What do you recommend spending money on after boot camp? Buying new uniform gear, head gear etc. I heard standard issue uniform and gear isn't the best for recruits besides for. the guide
+Andy Nguyen Issued gear is perfectly fine. I urge you to save your money, don't buy a bunch of uniform items, and just enjoy your time with family during boot leave
+ClaytonFilpo Thank you very much. When would be the right time to buy new uniform accessories?
Don't worry about uniforms. Seriously, you get them issued to you at boot camp. Go to mct. They'll just get dirty again there. Then buy new cammies at mos school
+ClaytonFilpo Roger that. Thank you for the much needed advice
hey is there a website where i can buy uniform items?
try the thrift store on base. cheap
thanks
SgtGritdotcom
I dead wanted a mustang 😂
Clayton filpo thanks for the tips. I sure am subscribing because I'm trying to be a marine my self
Not sure, as I've never used it if it's available. Most people just use their credit card and pay off later down the road
Ya I think they call it a gold star card now or something
ClaytonFilpo Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure things haven't changed with the PX credit card. Just like the Ford Mustangs, that was spot on and so true 20 years ago, lmao!! Those off base car dealerships 😣
thank you for the advice sir hopefully I will be a marine soon
Also, untuck your t-shirt from your jeans/jorts when you're out in town 🤣
Can you bring your phone or other electronics to mct and mos school?
MCT, yes. But it'll get locked away till the end. MOS school? Yes, you can have it the whole time
+ClaytonFilpo hey I was considering joining the USMC and I was wondering how boot camp is besides all the big training days
Loads of fun. Like summer camp. You'll love it.
+ClaytonFilpo sweet hopefully I will, I appreciate the response man
joshua dean what is mot?
So i broke my ankle little bit ago and i was wondering if i would still able to join the marines
+Cody Kuchar once you heal to 100%, yes. most likely
+ClaytonFilpo well i also got a plate in it, so would i still be able to?
+Cody Kuchar you will probably need a waiver in that case
+ClaytonFilpo I had a tailbone cyst that required it to be cut out. Still the 100% healed and able to join or different?
+Nevil Easterling all contingent on your doctor's recommendation, I believe
Ill be going in November to mcrd san diego would u be against the purchase of an ar out of bootcamp? If so y
I mean, it depends. You can't keep it in your barracks room or car. You have to store it in the armory and check it out any time you want to shoot it. To me, that kinda sucks -- but if you really love shooting then it's worth it and plenty of people do it.
dont get stuffed in a dryer
Hey Clayton I was wondering I don't have a perfect vision and I wear contacts will I have too wear those ugly glasses throughout boot camp?
+Seth Woods Yup:(:(:( I did too
+ClaytonFilpo damn that sucks :( thanks for the response
Clayton so the job you had in the marine corps how did you get it and also how hard is the selection? I'm interested in reasearch and a possible job move after my four years of security forces
+Colby Jennings Public Affairs is fairly competitive, meaning you'll need a higher asvab score, but it is not hard to get into if you have that
+ClaytonFilpo I got a 67 on the asvab
Most likely I'm gonna spend it on online language classes and the stock market .
"within two weeks of meeting her" hahahahha
I got deployed right after boot.... oh well someone’s gotta lead the way.
Could you PLEASE make a video on graduating honors. How could i try to acheive that? it would be my DREAM. im leaving for BC to PI on 07032016. So shy of 3 weeks out! Thanks Clayton. lots of information!
+dahee park Absolutely. Also, I stream at 8:30 est Mon-Thurs LIVE on my youtube if you'd like more direct answers!
TOTALLY! Thank you sir!
fucking bust your ass plain and simple
U need to be the best there and score the best on final pt but let them know u going for Honor grad
Wow sorry did notice how old ur comment was lol
*gets in a fight*
Private’s: I’m sorry staff sergeant I didn’t know I couldn’t do that
Why would they buy a new mustang?? The new ones look like crap! 2005 to 2014 is the way to go 😉
Lala_C I have a 2003
Cadet Price I have a used 2004.. Saving up to buy a 2009 Shelby cobra sometime in the future.
Lala_C Nice
Hey Ace, the absolute best lookin Mustang is a 1969 Mach 1 with a 428/429 engine, a big 4 barrel carb. But hey that ancient stuff now. I had one with a 428 cobra engine, 4 barrel carb and a 4 speed. They hadn't discovered that extra fifth or sixth gear then. Oh well, like I said ancient history
2013 baby. Best looking model in my opinion
can you please explain why wearing moto gear and being moto in general is bad. Im joining in a few years and I was just wondering why thats bad.
ClaytonFilpo thanks that helps a lot
John marshall it's just the culture dude, Marines don't give a shit if you're a Marine. They already know because of your fucked up haircut. A lot of the moto shit does seem cheesy. Anyway have fun in recruit training, semper fi.
makes you look like boot
Maybe when you're home on leave you might want to wear that stuff but on base or in town near base the last thing you want to do is look like a boot. On base no one cares you're a Marine and in towns around base, a lot of people resent Marines so it's better to be low key and not look the part--except the haircut. Hard to escape that.
What was your MOS
I didn't fall into these 34 years ago but lots did.
What's Moto gear and why is it bad to wear it? (I'm from the UK)
Hey clayton im about to turn 17 and i have not completed high school and the marine corps website says that you have to have a high school diploma or about to graduate i was wondering if you could clarify
Guys im planning on enlisting after college i just wanted to ask whats the longest some one one can stay in the marines?
I'm sure some have been in more than 30 years.
I plan on picking up a nitrous Kit after boot lmao
The getting too cocky out of Boot Camp is real shit. I was older when I enlisted ( I was 30 but a fucking PT stud) I was more mature and more secure with who I was, understood myself, I had already been humbled a few times in my life and knew to stay confident and humble, but not cocky. Most of those kids did not and I know of three who got the shit beat out of them on their 10 day leave smfh.
Well I don't see what's wrong with buying a new car or buy stuff for the brks they earned the money and they will get more as there time go. As a Marine I habe to disagree with a lot u said
Yeah you know about debt right?
Barracks life isn't bad at all. It's like living at a motel, or hotel. I got a fridge and a microwave. Not bad at all.
And they aren't Mustangs, they're bootstangs.
What are your expenses as a brand new single marine?
What if you have a hard time passing the asvab ?
Jovany Rosado the difference between the army and marine corps is 1 point. Just practice a little and you'll end up getting
Jovany Rosado practice
You can be an 0311 then
About blowing money do think it's a good idea just getting essential parts of living(food, toiletries, stuff along those lines)?
don't worry about what he says about buying moto gear. I bought moto gear something like a shirt with the name of the base I was stationed on. buy moto gear there's nothing wrong with it. you don't have to buy every moto shirt the store/exchange has. I wore them when we pt''d in rainbow/civilian attire. if your friends say something about you wearing Marine shirts at PT (physical training) all the time tell them you don't want to run your good shirts exercising in them.
do you recommend me to buy a mini car?
+Kevin Gonzalez I suppose it's up to you what car you buy. But mini cars? They just seem impractical
no just for going to point A to point B
+Kevin Gonzalez if it's just for driving and you don't intend to put literally anything else in your car, then yes
Just get a bike
What about ega hats?
Why just MCT? What about SOI
He wasn't infantry, so he can speak more about MCT than ITB
Always wanted to become a marine but my thyroid medication stopped that is there anyway around that? I’m a bit of now 25 I don’t know the age limit but wanted to be a Marine all my life
