I'm excited to share episode 2 of our English Country Kitchen Remodel series! Today will be the biggest transformation as we paint the cabinets in our original 1960s kitchen. Then comes handmade living finish hardware, a new window dressing, and an appliance we actually made money on! Along the way we will share our design decisions and thought processes, as well as where we saved and splurged. My hope is that this series will give you the confidence to create that English country cottage style in your home. Enjoy!

Love love love. An update without destroying a perfectly good kitchen. Two years ago I painted my 1968 kitchen a very similar color green. To this day I can’t believe how beautiful and timeless the green is in our 1840’s home. My visitors always compliment the color. Before it was all orange tone wood including the wood floor. Now it is a soothing green with grey marble herringbone backsplash, matte black granite counters to look like soapstone and the paneling, floors and hood are the original wood -- much better!

Then adding gorgeous living finish unlaquered brass handmade hardware, a "new to us" gas stove, timeless window dressing, and pretty vintage light fixture. Let's get started!

Love the green and white cabinets. The over sink pendant is perfect with the scalloped top. Its so nice to have vision and be patient enough to take the time to implement it. I love the bamboo shade, wanting one myself. It has such a classic look. I could really see a wood waistcoating type stove hood stained to match the shade for a pop of color and texture over the stove.

Oh Rachel, it is SUCH a beautiful transformation! Why am I always still amazed at what paint can do to transform a space?! (Btw, it's obvious a paint sprayer is the only way to go when painting cabinetry or large spaces.) It gives all the cozy English cottage vibes. I do love your choice of the two cabinet colors as it offers such a nice balance, especially knowing how your dining room space looks now. The two spaces complement each other so well! I can only imagine how it feels to walk into your kitchen each morning to grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and then sitting at your table admiring the view. It's another great job of your and Matt's vision and teamwork! I so appreciate your patient, deliberate, & frugal approach to the gradual progress of improvements to your home...much better on the budget. My home is mid 80's and was a vacation home. The cabinets were in great shape. I painted and my husband put in new countertops and built an island. We saved so much $$. Green is one of my favorite colors Rachael and that kitchen turned out just beautiful! You and your husband make a great pair and it must be wonderful to have such a handy husband that can do almost anything in your home. How I would LOVE to add beams, but this isn't in the budget (for now). Since there's wallpaper in the dining room we'll keep the walls ivory in the kitchen, but you're right, there's a load of lovely antique, DIY, & thrifted decor coming!

Rachel, what a beautiful transformation from the 1960’s to a much more beautiful era. I’ve often thought of painting my lower cabinets a different color but went with all white. As you and Matt did, my husband and I also do our own work. He’s very good at home projects from plumbing to electrical , sheet rock to mud…..he’s really good at all of it.
It’s so good to work as a team and you’ve inspired many projects in our home. Can’t wait to see more of your lovely home.

Your kitchen looks fantastic. I love how everything came out. Oh gosh my husband and I did the demolition work for four bedrooms living room and dining room. It was murder because we did it all at one time. Including moving all the furniture and clothing. I cried thinking what did I do. Lol. I pulled off wallpaper from the dining room and hallway. We had to hire out the texturing, baseboards install and wood floors but we painted everything ourselves. Oh I love Miss Mustard Seed. This is such a fabulous giveaway 💕. ~ Janet 😘

Seeing that there was a kitchen video made me smile! I love the fact that you take your time to do a project. I couldn't paint the cabinets myself (my vision isn't great) and right now, the charge is $4K to paint cabinets, so I can't even get started. I like the blinds, but in my HOA area, only white can show from the outside of the house (can you believe that?) I do love the pendant light, I had changed my hardware to brass (like you, cheaper on Etsy) and can't wait to see what faucet you pick. Signed up for the Giveaway!

This makeover is just lovely! I'm so excited to see the next phase. Did yoy know that the front of your dishwasher can be removed and painted with appliance paint customized to whatever color you choose? The sage green of the lower cabinets would be fabulous.

Mind reader! Yes, we've looked into paneling our dishwasher, but it the front can not be removed. We're currently researching appliance paint products. And yes again, the same green is my choice!
Oh my gosh - what a transformation. I love it! I'm considering undertaking the "paint the cabinets" job myself and will doing 2 colors also. And, as green is my favorite color, I will be doing a similar shade to yours. Kudos to you and Matt for all the hard work (so far)!!
