Dawn of Mana may have its issues but for me it's one of the most beautiful games on the system. The artists at Square really did a phenomenal work on that one.
I’ll second that, it’s a beautiful looking game!
Arc the Lad looks really interesting. I like the funky characters.
I don't know when you did it, but I'm thrilled you put the names of the games in the corner of the screen while you're discussing them. It's been so helpful.
I just picked up a copy for 12 bucks.
@@jewyjewjew7264 Oh good, it's not one of those crazy expensive ones.
Fantastic list of underrated ps2 jrpgs!!! Keep up the videos!!! Love them!!! ❤️
Thanks Cyber!
Nobody ever seems to recall the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games on PS2. Of the five games released on the PS2, three of these were very deep JRPGs, allowing you to play the role of any character, building your stats, collecting items, joining factions, etc. Rot3K X is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time, regardless of console.
I believe that consideree simulation rpg. And 70% of people that know about dynasty warrior series must be familiar with romance of 3 kingdom too, its like a whole package.
I love the SMT Digital Devil Saga games and I think they are very underrated. They had a very interesting plot as well as an interesting way to build your characters up in the game. It would be awesome if they as well as the Raidou games on the PS2 got a remaster for modern consoles, but I won't get my hopes up too much about it happening.
Would love to see them make a comeback as well!
SMT/Persona is the best Jrpg series of all time, no contest
@@FSVR54 I agree. 👍
This was a nice list. I was trying to remember that game since like forever. Shining Tears. Was really nice to remember what it was called and see the gameplay again.
Pretty awesome to know, I have literally every game on this list. The ps2 is an Rpg super power. I don't sell my games, that's why I have such an extensive video game collection.
I love Tales of Legendia, very underrated! One of the only Tales games I could bring myself to finish, actually.
I loved the classic styled battle system with the side on view!
I keep hearing good things about “Legendia”. I love games like “Odin Sphere” and other side-scrolling action RPG’s, plus it had some of the “Tekken” people work on it (which is probably why the main character uses fists I believe). I actually have a copy so I’m going to give it a start tonight!
I've played legendia because it's the only tales series I have at the time, totally loved the characters and combat mechanics, even had finished it twice. i thought for sure i would loved the other series a decade later when i got money to buy newer consoles and try them out after seeing it changed from 2D combat perspective, but felt it was just too clunky imo
That was actually my first Tales of game
Funny thing, I played through Tales of Legendia after playing Tales of the Abyss. At first, I thought "Wow, this is good but far inferior to Abyss!" The first thing that slapped me in the face is that the sound quality of the voice overs is pretty bad. Everything else seemed like a downgrade too. However, the farther I got into the game the more I started to really appreciate and like it's uniqueness. No other Tales game that I know of feels quite like Legendia. I liked the ring mechanic used for solving puzzles, and it had interesting characters and a good story. The lower budget really doesn't end up detracting much from the game at all, which I think is a very impressive achievement.
damn bro, as soon as i saw that thumbnail, i immediately clicked the video, first time i saw someone talked about "ms saga a new dawn", its the first jrpg game that i really finished playing it till the end when i was a kid, such an amazing simple game, with simple mecha modification and character skill, not only ms saga, but the whole video make me feel nostalgic and miss my old PS2, thanks
Hey that MS Saga game looks cool. Opens ebay.
Closes ebay.
Nice I just got done watching your Ps1 hidden gems vid! Time for a double feature.
Hope you find something new man 🙂
Okay, once again you're in my favorite genre of games!
----
Musashi Samurai Legend - I never played this one due to circumstances, but it's nice to see it's worth a play.
----
Shining Tears - I don't think I've heard of this one, unless you've covered it on other videos.
----
MS Saga: A New Dawn - Ah... I really wasn't into Gundam when this came out, nice to see it's a good game.
----
Orphen: Scion of Sorcery - This was one I wanted to watch the anime before I played the game and have only recently watched the anime.
----
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 - So many of the SMT games are on my To-Play list, and since this is a sequel, I'd really want to play the first one first. Nice to see you recommend this game.
----
Dawn of Mana - Never heard of this one, but based on what you said, I will at least give it a try. Can't be worse than my personal pick for the worst PS2 RPG.
----
Tales of Legendia - I don't think I ever saw this around me, so I missed out, but sounds like I need to give this one a try.
----
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits - I don't think I've played any of the previous Arc the Lad games, and this one doesn't seem to intrigue me at all.
----
Steambot Chronicles - Oh man! This is a MUST PLAY! After playing a demo of it, I had to get it.
----
Legaia 2: Duel Saga - While I was aware of it, the original Legend of Legaia is still on my list of games I've played but not beat, so I really want to beat the first one before I move on to the second.
----
All in all, great video!
Thanks. Most of those I didn't know about.
Glad you found something new!
So glad that you put Musashi Samurai Legends on the list. That game always get looked over to the PS1 game.
Deserves way more attention!
@@thatvideogamesshow tell me about it.
I just quit Musashi Brave Fencer ps1 on the FIRST day yesterday - how are you supposed to platform If you can't look in the direction 🤷 you can't press both directional buttons at once 🤦 needs a remaster
Really enjoyed your first video, glad to see another part
Cheers Wes! 🙂
As a tales fan I have to correct you on Legendia being a spin off. Yes it is made by a different team and has a different feel to combat but is considered a mainline title
Legendia is considered to be the 7th mainline title in the Tales of franchise to be exact.
@sperryyoungerjr.3985 thanks ,I wasn't sure where it landed on the timeline
Thanks for another great video! They’re always fun to watch. Also, loved the music that plays in the beginning of the video.
Any Shin Megami Tensei game or spinoff is gold! ☺️🤘🤘Love them or hate them, the amount of talent, time and effort they put into those games and yet still make them stand out from all the other thousands of RPGs is unbelievable!
Best jrpg series ever
Even Ronde (Majin Tensei 3) ? :D
Shining Tears was a game me and my buddy used to play a lot. We never finished it though. Some time ago, I did get the Japan exclusive sequel, Shining Wind, as well. Orphen: Scion of Sorcery, I only played some because I liked the anime lol! My friend and I have this inside joke with Orphen going "The Hand of PYRO!" I've only played Dawn of Mana like once or twice but I think it wasn't really what I was expecting. Maybe I need a third go at it? Now Tales of Legendia I absolutely adore! Very underrated gem. I've been thinking about replaying it sometime. I really liked the story and characters. Interesting enough, the game was still developed by Namco, but using a team from Tekken and Soul Calibur people. This was before they merged the Tales Studio into Namco proper. Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is another game I haven't finished and I think I might be stuck lol! but I first played a demo from one of the PlayStation magazine demo discs and enjoyed it so I bought it. Or, I say I bought it, but my parents did lol! I'd like to go back but I'll probably have to grind a bunch lol I'm on one of Darc's sections and every time I get into battle I get destroyed. Steambot Chronicles I've only played the demo of but I constantly reference the "I saw a blue thing..." line all the time lol! I'd like to play the full game one day. Dang I had a lot to say this time around sorry about that lol! Lots of fun games!
Loved MS Saga. Never was able to take down the Secret Boss and get all of Master Gundam though. Was rather sad that we never got a Gundam JRPG again.
The art direction for that Musashi game is just gorgeous! All these current gen, open world whatever games are just BORING. Thanks for sharing!
I’ll second that, it’s such a beautiful game!
Neo: The World Ends with You gave me Musashi vibes when I first saw it. Agreed though, good art in that game.
Orphen was my first ps2 RPG Oooo the memories thank you for your great work i remember wishing for the anime and manga, the spells the hand of pyro, pinnacle of the sun😅 what a lovely time
"Musashi Samurari Legend improves over it's predecessor" That has to be the first time I heard that.
Great video. I want Digital Devil Saga 3.
Enough can't be said about digital devil saga. The opening song, "danger" is still my ringtone to this day. Just wish it was on something handheld
Such a solid rpg. Need a remaster!
Legendia is one of the games on my shame list. I didnt get to finish it back in the day
It’s well worth giving another go if you get the chance! 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow will definitely play it and finish it when given the chance if ever they remaster it (hopefully) its an instabuy for me
Love your videos keep up the good work please post more playstation videos.
Thanks Abdullah, plenty more vids on the way! 🙂
Orphen is the only one I never got. It was on my radar but just never got around to getting it. Going to have to pick it up if I ever see it.
Well worth it!
Aww yeah, Legaia Duel Saga. Quietly (literally because audio balancing issues) one of the best soundtracks on the PS2.
The music is such a great aspect of the game. I should have mentioned that in the section! 😅
I'm surprised it doesn't get more mention, considering it's a joint collaboration between Yasunori Mitsuda and Hitoshi Sakimoto. It doesn't sound great in game because of the ambient effects but the OST release is incredibly good.
Nice collection 👍
Thanks Raj!
Nice! I have all these but one. Most of them still sealed too. lol
Nice!
Recently added almost this entire list to my steamdeck before this video came out, lol.
Orphan is still one of my all time favorite anime's, got the sorcerer stabbed tattooed on my back even. Game wasn't as good, but still fun to see an anime game make it state side.
Orphan on ps2 may not be the best game ever but damn was it fun and it had a awesome soundtrack as well.
Shining Tears reminds me of a real time battle version of Jeanne d'Arc for PSP. Have to check it out one day.
Another excellent video TVGS! I appreciate how you continue to shine a light on one of the greatest consoles of all-time. Shall the PS2 never be forgotten.
Thanks man I appreciate that! =)
I watch this to remember when the world was still good
good list great work
Thanks Caio!
Musashi Samurai Legend is a sequel (of some sort) to a PS1 classic, Brave Fencer Musashi. I forgot about that sequel tho, I might pick it up again.
legaia 2 is the best for me in this list
Musashi Samurai Legend looks like it was inspired by the Dark Cloud games.
Shining Tears also has character designs by Well-known artist Tony Taka
recommend using bookmarks in your videos like this for each game
great picks
I see that WD hard drive in your PS2. A fellow OPL chad I presume?
Great video as always!
Random question, do you own or collect any PSP UMD movies? For some strange reason I wanna build a little collection of them
I love underrated games video in any console.
Have a look on the channel for plenty more! 🙂
Nice(?) or maybe great list! thanks for sharing. Really entertaining. I'll try digital devil saga and dawn of mana.
Glad you found something new!
Best of those IMO is MS Saga.
What are you using to get that resolution?
legendia is one of the best tales out there only downside is the short story iwish there is legendia 2
The original 4 dot hack games need to be talked about
Could you imagine how much more awesome your videos would be with timestamps?
Updated
@@thatvideogamesshow thanks!!!
ahhhh Tales of Legendia. Joguei demais.
Digital Devil Saga 2!!!
Tsugunai Atonement has unique story and great music
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out and add it for part 3 =)
Not gonna lie those are some great games.
Hi, thanks for including Steambot Chronicles.
On the GBA front, have you done “Riviera” yet?
I picked it up at a game shop years ago, just because it was an RPG, but haven’t tried it yet.
Nice game, more visual novel then RPG and a little grindy.
1 RPG I'm hoping gets brought up in part 3 or even a part 4 is InuYasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask...
also I really want to play through Legendia but my PS3 ( it IS one of the fully backward compatible ones ) seems to struggle to run it...made me a tad concerned that my copy of Tales of the Abyss might have the same difficulties too
Surprisingly good gane
4 month old video & no part 2?
Yup, these are definitely forgotten games... and there's a reason for that.
At least Arc The Lad is brilliant.
*sees Chloe Valens thumbnail*
*instantly likes and subscribes*
Could you do another video on action rpgs?
For sure I'll get it in the works =)

I also Enjoy redream, Jet set radio, Dead or Alive 2 and others.
Dolphin, Xenoblade Chronicles, Zelda Wind Waker and others.
For me no need to change Settings for redream And for Dolphin only put vulkan.
Hot Take: Tales of Legendia was rightfully forgotten. It is not liked by tales fans at all & is considered a black sheep of sorts & one of, if not the worst games in the whole franchise (which is saying something when Zesteria exists). Orphen is a really interesting one as it's a video game adaptation of a part of a long running japanese light novel series that also spawned an anime. It's also supposedly quite faithful to the source material too! One interesting thing to note is that for MS Saga, the game was called Gundam True Odyssey in japan and they even got a jpop group to sing a song for the opening sequence... which the Western version absolutely butchered with its non-vocal version scratchy... whatever the hell it was. The song was called "take a chance" by Savage Genius for those interested.
As for more forgotten PS2 RPGs, I have to throw my hat in for Grandia 3. It's a wonderfully competent RPG with a tried and tested combat system but somewhat lacklustre story. Just a shame that most people only acknowledge up to Grandia 2. Tho, I can understand not wanting to talk about Grandia Xtreme.
How many people you know and is sure that played every single Tales Of game, to correctly tell the worst one? I say every, not the ones that came out in english, and not only mainline game. If one didn't play at least all mainline games, no "worst pick" opinion matter, and even so that's going to be only a judgement of the mainline games.
I love duel saga
One of the greats!
@@thatvideogamesshow ikr just like IMOQ
What is the background theme that plays at the beginning? Sounds like a Persona mix but what is it? THANKS!
Its from Shenmue 3 and is titled 'Paradise' =)
@@thatvideogamesshow Ha, I actually started Shenmue 3 recently. What a coincidence. THANKS! :)
There is a Musashi game on the ps2?? More reason to get me a ps2 again.
I bought musashi months ago. Very impressive game. It’s very very slow tho. Takes 8h just get a double jump. Also you have only 1 sword in the whole game, except the element ones, that’s disappointing
Someone likes the Stella Deus OST I see.
Classic soundtrack!
@@thatvideogamesshow You should check out the BGM Rearrange version. It is amazing.
Neva heard of allot of these & I looked up nearly every game 🤯 the Ps2 is deep 🤙🤙
it's refreshing to see a good Musashi game - the ps1 one disappointed me - you can't press both directional buttons at once 🤦 how are you supposed to platform 🤷
Glad you found some new games!
I know it doesn’t technically count, but I have to recommend any fans of “Dragon Quest” check out the fan-translated PS2 version of “DQ5: Hand of the Heavenly Bride”. It looks much better than the DS remake and is the definitive version of “DQ5” at the moment. I also recommend “MS Saga”, especially to any “Gundam” fans. (My major gripe is the horrific character designs of the main characters. They are sooooo unappealing aesthetically! But everything else is pure fan service heaven for “Gundam” fans like myself!)
Steambot Chronicles is too good to be remade or remastered. Atlus knows it. They don't want us to have a remaster because its too good of a game.
That shining tear,s is light and dark soul,s but the dark one turn,s you into a madman who get,s a cheap thrill from killing bad guy,s the light one make,s you calm and more focused it depends on who your partner is🤔
What is the intro for this video?
Shenmue 3 OST - Paradise
@@thatvideogamesshow Thanks!
Normally I agree with y'all on everything, but saying Musashi Samurai Legend improved over BFM? That's just objectively wrong. MSL was an incompletable slog that had no redeeming qualities.
I heard dawn of mana is a mediocre game . So i passed on this game . Im a huge secret of mana fan by the way 😊
Yeah it’s not for everyone. It does have a few redeeming factors but it’s nothing spectacular!
it starts slow but the game gets a lot better later on
you forgot dark cloud
👍👍
where is the role playing?
stop tagging your videos with games that aren't even on the list
Shining Tears is one of the worst games I've ever played.
If it is not turn based, it is not a true JRPG for me, but a shitty western RPG clone.
they're forgotten for a reason, none of them are memorable.
I rember going to a pawn sho pwhen i was a kid and they had Persona 3 and 4 and devil summoner 1,2 my dad loves RPGS that day was the best day ever we bought al lthose and star ocean for like 80$
