Hello Terry, Wow, priceless commentary mate, only through a truckies eyes hey?
How bout the second video. What are we really seeing there? We are witnessing an empty Prime mover & trailer travelling what appears to be TOO CLOSELY to the vehicle in front whilst travelling slightly above 80km/h. I agree it’s hard to pick the exact distance he’s travelling at on the video but evidently it was too tight. The heavy vehicle is unladen but still it’s a heavy vehicle & now that it’s completely unladen is probably slightly more likely to lock a brake (or three). Locked wheels reduce braking effectiveness. At 80 km/h we cover 22.2mts/second. So in this instance we have a HV travelling about
23m/s & a safe distance for that combo would be 60 metres. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Food for thought, wouldn’t you say Terry?
Tailgating is so common these days but that doesn’t make it right. That car should have always been stopping for that light & the poor truck driver has everything working against him, but he’s the one that put himself there.
The one @ 3:30is with the B-double casually overtaking in double centre lines. “We just want to keep our trucks rolling” 😂 Seriously, there’s NEVER a safe time to overtake on double lines, they are there for a reason.
Again there is a higher onus on the B-double truck driver (up to 26 Mts & 62.5 tonnes) than there is on a 2mt long motorcycle weighing in at 200kg. Fact remains it’s illegal for both to cross the lines but vastly different distance needed for them to complete an overtaking manoeuvre. At the end if the day there are too many things that can go wrong & do go wrong.
It’s amazing the stupidly of some drivers (of all types) just to save seconds & risk it all in the process. Even in the case of an Interstate driver, if he lost 2-3km in distance travelled per hour due to getting slowed up, over an 10 hr period, it would only be 20-30km in a day. This distance could literally be made up in 15 minutes….. & to save those precious minutes how many dangerous manoeuvres need to be completed 😵‍💫
Of course I’m sure there are interstate drivers that will tell me they get held up more than 2-3km per hour & perhaps they are right but the main highways on the east coast have a much higher percentage of dual lanes than 20-30 years ago & there’s plenty of interstate trucks travelling at 103km/h too. Is it worth the risk of killing babies & being charged with Culpable Driving or it’s equivalent (Jail time plus living with the knowledge that you’ve killed). It happens. The speed limit is exactly that, it’s the upper limit you’re supposed to travel at. There’s no guarantee that we will get to travel at that speed, never has been.
Please don’t make excuses for poor/even dangerous driving. I like my truck drivers to stay alive & go home to their families at the end of the day/trip/week. Just sayin 😉
Have a great week Terry & all the best for 2022 👍

Well said. I saw that second video as worse than you described. There’s 4 seconds of amber light there before it turns red. That duration is to allow trucks time to stop and is set according to the speed limit. There’s no brake lights on the semi until the light is red. Which shows the driver never had any intention of stopping, which means they’re deliberately negligent and shouldn’t be driving, or has the reaction time of a sloth and shouldn’t be driving. There’s zero excuse, brake lights are not traffic signals.

0:37 it wasn’t just car driver that created the danger, it was the Truckee who failed to prepare to stop when they approached the intersection, and decided to proceed through the intersection by failing to decide to stop when the amber light illuminates. I’ll add in that the truck was following too close, if the driver was unable to stop in time.
2:30. It wasn’t the van driver that put himself in danger, it was the Truckee who failed to plan to be in the correct lane at the right turn, then crosses a solid white line.

How is it the truck drivers fault. It was orange and the car infront didn't attempt to stop and clearly looked like it was going through. The truck is not going to slamm on its brakes for an orange light when it weighs 25 plus ton empty. then all of a sudden car driver slams its brakes in the last second infront of a vehicle weighing 25 plus tons. The truck driver did a absoloutly great job at avoiding the accident that the driver infront clearly cuased. Goodluck to you if you think slamming the brakes infront of a truck suddenly is a good idea regardless. If cars infront did this all the time you would a ridiculous amount of incidents. Most probably fatal too. The car infront was not paying attention at all and realised the lights changed then suddenly went from going through orange to stopping instantly. 2 ton vehicle vs 25 tons. absolutely stupid..

@@kovacevd Of course it is the truck drivers fault. It *was* safe for the truck driver to brake and stop for the light when he saw the yellow light but he chose to break the law and ignore the yellow, thinking that the car driver was also going to break the law... When the car (which needs much shorter distances to stop) actually stopped for the light then the trucker had a panic and had to perform an emergency stop. if the trucker had simply driven like he was supposed to from the beginning (IE stopping for traffic lights) then we wouldn't have even seen the dashcam of the trucker fucking up and almost running into a stationary car... 🤷‍♂️

Now, this is somehow better than other states, and i genuinely believe i am a good driver as i keep my car in my lane and all that (ocd really makes me keep that shit in line, super self conscious). But i had no real training for unknown or weird situations like ones with an 18 wheeler. The truck itself can unfortunately kill people and others dont realize that its so much more difficult to drive these things, i always give excess space and all that bc of it, but just a few videos demonstrating this and deadass some people would still be alive, as ive seen too much bullshitery around big rigs. • @belgnbor
    @belgnbor 3 роки тому +64

All this set of clips is doing is showing truckies in a bad light. 1st driver not driving to conditions, 2nd had plenty of time to stop for red light and only has himself to blame, the wide load pilot car not doing a good job, then the truckie bullying his way into left lane even though he could not fit. How could you ever condone anyone driving over double lines, if its a common practice then shame on those truckies. The big truck at the roundabout knows how long it will take him to take off, traffic was already clearly on the roundabout again just being a bully because of the size of vehicle. So sick of the blind spot argument, your given a separate licence to drive a truck and have to undergo training to pass that licence, its the trucks job to know what's around them just as it is the cars job and anyone else using the road.

I like your videos Terry however in this one I think you are too biased. I have a HC license so also have experience and know what its like when car drivers have little appreciation of what its like driving a truck (ie turning circles and braking distances). I appreciate what you are trying to do in your vids which are more of an educational vid, however you lost me today with the constant defense of the truckie. The driver coming up to the red light had more than enough time to brake, its BS to put yourself in a situation where your dependent on the vehicle ahead doing what you "hope" they are going to do. I always wash off around 10kph coming up to a set of lights to give me enough braking distance. The "blind spot", wow, find that very hard to believe mate, the cabin was 90 degrees to the road, he just needed to look at the side window. The one however that caused me to write this was the bloke overtaking on double lines, drivers like this give truckies a bad reputation. your reference to the possible lead driver is a long bow to draw, irrespective its illegal and should never be endorsed as ok. I had a situation years ago when a car came out of a property so was just entering the road, this was after I was told the road was clear. the industry should never be supporting driving like this, irrespective of "keeping the wheels moving"as you say. I am sorry mate, this video really did upset me as I am all about good driving and I think a couple of these truckies could have driven better in the situation.

Here in Canada, the signal used to be turning OFF your headlights momentarily to signal to the truck driver that he was clear to move over (obviously only useful at night). With the advent of always-on Daytime Running Light (DRL), it is much harder to notice if that signal is being given. I don't know if a new "convention" has emerged, but I hope it is not "flash the high beams" as that signal has too many possible meanings.

0:35 - there's no way that was the car driver's fault, not even the car which skipped the light (terrible driving, but that doesn't excuse the truckers poor planning). The trucker can clearly see in full view that the lights are going amber. Plenty of time to adjust speed and prepare to stop, which is the whole purpose of that light.
And overtaking on double-white lines is never safe. Nobody is expecting that and the lines may be protecting hidden dips or bends that aren't obvious even a fair distance back.

It still amazes me when people get upset about a truck needing to take a corner wide. The road rules permit it. Likewise it amazes me that people think a truck has the acceleration of a car. At roundabouts, the rule is that the vehicle that arrived first gets to go first, therefore the truck again has done nothing wrong. Love the videos Terry, but there was no way that was a blind spot there, the driver just failed to check and check again. And overtaking on the double is just unprofessional. The car in front of the truck continues to blow the red light, but in does so after moving to the right lane because there is another black car already stopped in the left lane at the red light. Not to excuse the truck either, he is higher up and he should have seen the vehicle in front of the car he was following. Further to that, I believe that the truck should have already started to slow at the orange given the distance he was, he had ample time to do so safely. I'm a bit late to the party, but still makes for interesting viewing. First I must blurt out my caveat; although I have an HR licence, my heavy vehicle driving is limited to out MAN 24-420 tag axle motorhome and the emergency support units (MR) at work on the odd occasion. Doing skidpan work when going for my MR was fun. Our employer really knows how to make new endorsements fun for us. I spent a few years stationed near an industrial estate and calls to truck rollovers were quite common-rarely on the same bend though. There are a lot of comments about clip two; I'm amazed the truckie didn't hit the brakes some 3 seconds sooner. With the minivan incident, if that was me in the DC truck I'd have started slowing down as soon as I saw the van brake. You have to expect others will do something stupid and try to allow for that. I think that irrespective of what another truckie says on the UHF (assuming they are another truckie), if there are double unbroken lines you just don't overtake. Simple as that. We see a lot of truckies on the M1 between about Beenleigh and Nerang either travelling in lane 3 or 4 (trucks there are limited to lanes 1 and 2 in most stretches) or tailgating other trucks and cars. A lot of responsible truckies but also way too many who'd accumulate 12 points quickly. Great videos and commentary as always, Tez.

Truck drivers never use to be in the wrong lane. And being the right lane to go left at next intersection and cut across 3 lanes- IS WRONG. Many I know have found out when they do that to a state government bus. The Bus wins, as it has cameras and backing of bigger insurance. Its bad enough having a bunch of poorly trained car drivers. It's worse having same morons in heavy vehicles. All I know is as long as each of the smash and use up wear and tear parts. I still get paid.

I actually give the missus the shits when listening to channel 40 when we are travelling. That is ip until one day we avoided an accident because we where listening in and now she wants it on att

      That's 😂
Always a bad idea by the Missus until they realise it's a good idea 😉👍

Had this happen to me a few times where I've had to pull on to the highway where there's approx 100m of clear vision before it bends and foliage covers whats on the other side of the corner, so it's a guessing game when it looks clear that once you've got the truck on the road and you're still waiting to pull your trailer around (46T), then a car pops out and their nodding their head as if it's fault of the truck driver that they had to slow down momentarily (No thought about truck characteristics, or 'oh, there's no way he would've seen me coming around the corner if i couldn't see him'). Why can't people accept that they that must stay alert at all times and be prepared for anything, in my mind if you're not focused on the road or prepared to take action at a moments notice, I'm the one nodding in disbelief. Just accept that a little inconvience & courtesy is still going to see you at your destination at the end of the day and we truckies are very courtious on a daily basis. :)

2:52 + Don't make excuses for criminals . Radio or not , this bloke is a potential murderer . Rules are there for all of us , truckies are not exempt .

About the first one, I thought steering the other way to prevent a rollover was only a thing in ETS2/ATS, but it works in real life too apparently.
