I'm so delighted that two of my favorites made it to the top tier 🥰❤️ For King of Elfland's Daughter, I definitely get what you mean about not remembering the plot, but for me my enjoyment wasn't based on the plot at all so it's still one of my favorites even though I'd have to be super vague if I ever described it to someone 😂 it's one of the few books I've read where I actually understand what "it's all about the vibes" means in a book
Both the introduction and last line to Titus Awakes had me holding back tears, just all that weight of the context we know. Happy to hear you enjoyed Perfume! I read it back in college and remember really enjoying it. I bought a copy to reread it so hopefully I can get to it this year. The ending has stuck with me over the years. And as I mentioned in the last stream I've added Severed Echoes to the tbr!
You're making me really want to start the black company books, they sound so fun! (I spotted an omnibus bindup thingy of the first three in one volume at waterstones the other day and it looked so cool so wanting to get that pretty edition is swaying it as well lol) Also, your thoughts on ship of destiny are really interesting cuz the last 200 pages is what I remember loving most about that book so I'm reallllly curious how I'll feel when i get around to my own reread of it. I already have a feeling I will like certain books more/less the second time.
The Black Company series for me was not necessarily fun. They are engaging, compelling, and enthralling...and incredibly dark and bleak. If/once you do read them, I hope you have a wonderful experience with the series! Ship of Destiny is still a great book but it's always interesting to read a book at another time and place in life and how that impacts your reading experience--for good or for ill. Liveship Traders is still a wonderful trilogy and an important sub-series in the Realm of the Elderlings.
Yes! So many people are so wrong about A Wizard of Earthsea, but you are correct! 😀 I’m also totally with you on The Tyrant Philosophers, and looking very much forward to continuing. I’ve also had a similar City Watch journey, but wasn’t even aware of Nation yet. Just ordered it. 🙂
Some of these books are not even a little bit depressing, and a few of them are actually FUN to read! Evie's reputation will never recover. Great list, as always if Evie loves a book I know its going to be good. Excited to see you getting into Le Guin! I am yet again reminded I really need to read more Octavia E Butler!
Lots of new books for me to check out more closely. The Adrian Tchaikovsky I am particularly interested in and as well as the Sarah Tolmie books, as well as lots of the others.
Ive got to read Blackwater. Every time i hear someone talk about it im just like yes please. I just bought The Wood at Midwinter today. I dont think I would like a lot of Clarkes stuff but I did want to try her.
@@TomOrange The short story is a sweet little snippet of her storytelling, very fairy tale like. I would recommend Piranesi-even though the writing is different from Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, it’s shorter and more contained-if you want to give her other works a try after The Wood at Midwinter. Blackwater is just so…cool. I really need to read more of Michael McDowell’s works.
Are you going to talk more about Memory and Dream at some point? I tried reading de Lint (Yarrow) a few years ago and bounced off pretty quickly, too. I'm curious if it's for the same reasons.

@@KFoxtheGreat Totally agree! I’m very excited to read more of Dunsany’s works because the prose was stunning.

Trust my bookish opinion when I say the book is good, but question it if I say it's bad. Haha!
Reading Parable of the Talents right now with Speculative Speculations podcast. Loving it so much!
