You mean to tell me that ALL of these medical students have been getting enough rest to have the energy to do this?
Lots of energy drinks I assume.
Lol they are first years wait till they reach their third year
Pretty sure these are fourth years and are waiting for their match. That’s why they have time
My school offered extra credit to who ever sings and makes a video (when you're dying to pass anything will help lol)
Right? I assumed they just started or taped a month after graduation.
So this is why colleges look for well rounded students...
Adrija Rambhatla freaking hate MySpace life
😂😂😂😂😂🤷♀️
Well the autotune helps lol.
It’s the opposite actually? 😺
Don’t do this. Don’t let zebras go undiagnosed. It’s far worse than overdiagnosing!!!
The fact that they are possibly people with a 4.0 GPA, can sing, can dance, and still have the time to study in medical school is mind blowing
Talent!
We're different species
The lady singing at 2:33 reminds me of Bethenny Frankel from Real Housewives of New York!🙂
@@omaraltia I guess thats why im a goddamn gardening tool (h0e)
And totally unfair ..... 😭😭😭
This reminds me of when I thought high school would be like high-school musical but it’s not. Same with med school, it ain’t this fun
Hear hear!
Yep not even close to this 😂😭
It can be if you find a way to make it fun. Find some cool people and there you go. Actually, I slept through my first year and studied without going out. Regretting it now
It’s hard, but there are ways to make it fun. I don’t know if it’s in every school, but over here they have study groups for people that prefer to learn information visually and in a more fun way, instead of reading the whole textbook by themselves and absorbing information that way. (Of course the groups recommend you study in the textbook by the time exams come around, but the method is easier to remember information afterwards)
I went to the BRIT school and it was pretty much like HSM
moral of the story: don't let a first year diganose you...
moral of the story: don't expect a diagnosis if you have a rare disease because doctors will ALL MOCK AND GASLIGHT YOU
K C that .. is honestly so true. The amount of times I’ve gotten awed looks and “it might just be psychological” is insane
Mr. & Mrs Smith pretty much. I’ve been kicked out of the room for my doctors to tell my family, not me, what was wrong with me, and that I must be crazy because he couldn’t find any reason for my vision or pain problems.
He never said a word to me. Asked me questions then kicked me out after 10 minutes of not letting me fully answer.
Definitely don’t expect quality care, because at the end of the day, they still go home to their warm meals, a nice family, and a high salary, while the ones who give him that are sent home being called crazy
Yeah ,
@@Hi-wu1se and? What was your problem at the end of the day?
Why do I love Harvard Students' videos so much? 😂😂
Maybe because those videos shows that "doctors" are actually funny, empathetic, loving, caring persons. Not like those quacky, corrupted, bigpharmed, cold-hearted, materialistic "doctors". :D
It because they are supposed to be really smart at Harvard but they end up making really stupid and funny videos
omg louis

From an actual zebra (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, gastroparesis, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia, etc) thank you for the line "catch rare diseases but still treat the common. I spent years with an incorrect diagnosis because my doctor ignored any symptom that did not fit her diagnosis until I jumped ship. My new doctor recognized my "stripes" on the first visit. But even as a zebra, sometimes a cold is just a cold. ;)
shywolf4 how are you a zebra? I'm sorry, English disease names aren't common for me since I'm loving in germany...
Gwendolyn Sheperd Ehlers -Danlos Syndrome is a rare connective tissue disorder. It is a genetic disorder that causes my joint to easily dislocate among other issues. It also can cause other conditions like gastroparesis (stomach issues) and Postural Orthoststic Tachycardia which causes me to get dizzy when changing positions.
shywolf4 oh no poor you... there isn't any cute is there? since it's genetic and you can't really change your DNA? I'm glad that I only have to cope with fading asthma and fading allergies (milk, cats, dogs, horses...)
I have EDS too and had the same problem with doctors not listening. I'm the one who actually figured it out and went to a geneticist for confirmation. Do you have CCI or Chiari too? If you do what type of doctor did you see for a diagnosis as I have a lot of the symptoms, but my neurologist just blows me off.
alicia kelleher I do not seem to have CCI or Chiari as far as I know but do have a lot a neck pain and headaches.
The diversity of that class is impressive !
And not indicative of actual classes LOL. If only
Most kids in med school are ethnic. So it's not far off at all.
ethnic kids the smartest!! majors like film and business full of cocky white boys and girls is what sucks.... its harder for ethnic kids to succeed in those places
King Kylie that’s not true!! Almost every can reach the same goal it doesn’t matter you ethnicity! Also the system is shitty because they except some people just to get diversity in the classes?
colleges usually like to have diverse classes. that’s actually a part of acceptance, they put you into “buckets” based on your race, where you live, gender etc. they like to have equal men and women, a diverse class, and students from all over the world!
Zebras that I've spotted:
1. Walking on the sidewalk in 0:16
2. To the right of the "wave" of graduates at 1:10
3. Sitting on the bench armrest, waving limbs on the left at 1:36
4. Showing up at 2:33
5. Its head at 2:51, on the table
6. In the tent, behind the lady with pink shirt at 2:53
7. Seen crawling at 2:57 (noticeable)
8. Seen running with the students at 3:21
Amazing job guys! The girl who wants to get a stool sample has an awesome voice. Felt weird typing that...
Joseph G Literally thought the same thing. Wow! Everyone sings well, but that girl sounded pro!
Joseph G Her voice was so heavenly
Joseph G The Tamiflu guy sounded pretty amazing too
Maybe u should type about her face factor
lol
Doctors just need to remember that medical zebras _do_ exist.
Abigail Parry THIS!!!
Abigail Parry *I love your profile picture.*
Jupp! I’m a total fucking zebra though not that rare ...autism related immunological diseases x a bunch would have made a great doctor though if I didn’t catch everything =(
Yeah! It’s far more important to not be like „Oh, it’s so rare, there’s no chance you could have that.“ I‘ve heard that a million times. A false positive is so much better... you get a second opinion and turns out you don’t have it. But if nobody sees you‘re a zebra, you’re in big trouble!!!
"If you hear hoofs, think horses, not zebras, but if you see stripes think zebras not painted horses"
Many times docs try to cram the uncommon disease's symptoms thst dont match their common disease diagnose with a "maybe its a rare manifeststion" no, its a zebra.
That was awesome! Wonderful job everyone!
And thank you for all of the wonderful educational videos you provide us students with.
"Just can't wait to help somebody"
Gives me all the motivation to study 😂
Omg this is so true! First year med students be like....
Patient: I do own a cat
1st year med student: Toxoplasmosis!!!
Well, or you could even made the diagnosis of tuberculosis and type 2 diabetes just by looking at a South Indian patient. Or sickle cell anaemia by looking at a black person.. or oesophageal SCC in a Japanese person.. medicine isn’t so full of stereotypes reallg
Oh the orthopedic surgeon stereotype strikes again.
If you meet enough, you know it’s just the truth 😂
Only had experience with one.... but before the thumb replacement on my mother, he came in to preop and said "okay, so what hand are we removing today?"
Trust me, the hospital where I'm at, it's far from stereotypical. 😂😂
Planning a rave over a ORIF😂
Well how do you know it's NOT bone cancer? Gimme my biopsy
What I love about this parody is that in this video, they're basically poking fun at themselves, which is nice compared to some of the other videos I've seen, not that they're many. And the song is super catchy too!
Almost as good as the Stanford Med Parodies, almost.
ohmyafy went from from Thank U, Next (Stanford Med) to Look What Yale Made Me do and started binge watching these parodies
Its better.
ooooh burn 😂😂😂😂
Oooo
😂 would u check the yale and harvard diss track: truth about harvard please 😂😂
Fun fact:
The medical slang term "Zebra" for rare (misdiagnosed) illnesses comes from the old proverb "If you hear hoofbeats, think horse, not zebra!" - meaning that you shouldn't jump to unlikely conclusions just because they are theoretically possible. It's actually a proverb that was taught to us in paramedic school, which is also where I learned the same _solution_ for this problem that is mentioned in this song: "Just examine!" If you properly do your ABCDE and your SAMPLERS and all those tools avaible to you, you'll eventually get a working diagnose one way or the other.
When she pages the care team 0:42 if you read the messages they are all nods to their other parodies. APPRECIATE THR CLEVERNESS
When future musicians end up unluckily in the Medical University 😄😆
As a person with a "rare" diagnosis (hEDS and its usual comorbidities), this worries me because most of us spend agonizing years with doctors telling us that we're hysterical and imagining things before someone is willing consider thinking out of the box. Don't forget about us zebras; we are not imaginary creatures! Thanks!
"this worries me" how does this specific video lead to people 'spending years in agony', please cut the shit.
It's a parody by some of the brightest people in medicine. They'll go through that first process first, if there's something, they'll find it.
@@chukwudiilozue9171 yeah... 30 years later
obviously thats much rarer. Its way more common for people to think its a zebra!
@@Ashkanman When you've had doctor after doctor telling you you're FAKING DISLOCATING A JOINT IN FRONT OF THEM or doctors telling you you can't possibly have allergies that aren't igE-mediated and literally cannot live a life at all because of your health condition and can't get any treatment because DOCTORS KEEP TELLING YOU YOUR CONDITION IS TOO RARE FOR YOU TO HAVE, maybe you will understand. Check your privilege. Not everyone's life is like yours. Check your privilege. Stop blaming the victim. Stop being incredulous of disabled people telling you that DOCTORS SINGING ABOUT HOW THEIR PAIN ISN'T REAL AND DOESN'T MATTER IS DEVASTATING. Doctors have the power to RUIN a person's life. Every day I contemplate suicide because doctors refuse to treat me because "it's too rare for me to have"
"Do you feel like House MD.?"
Considering the fact that I'm watching this during the era of covid-19...
As an actual Zebra patient... please don’t forget about us. Just because something is more common doesn’t mean we don’t exist :)
Although of course, always look for the common answers first
My exact thought! It's a fun video, but it's important to remember the rare zebras do exist (and may struggle to get care because people assume it's *not* rare) 🙂
Honestly, medicine could use more of this zebra hunting enthusiasm. My partner has EDS and various other comorbid issues, and the more they get dismissed, the less likely they are to seek help. They've been nauseated, in pain, and barely able to eat for over a month now, and they're STILL not getting taken seriously.
1:49 MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL
You make first year look fun
This is the time of year I long for because you guys always release another song!
I'd love to see the bts of this and all the other ones. Seems like you guys are having a lot of fun and it's really nice to watch. Good luck
I live for these medical music video parody’s 😂
"You're just first years",Lol,i'm actually in first year and that's how i feel😆😆
How is it going for you?
@@alexd.8554 Actually,in the beginning it was very hard,i did bad in tests for a whole semester,i've changed my way of studying 3 times(i was not having results),but now as the year is almost in the end,i finally found the best way to study,i'm getting better results and also get to do some extracurricular activities
@@alexd.8554 Are you about to start medical school?
Stay strong 💪💪
Actually, I'm just curious but what does 1st year mean in the USA? Is it after a pre-med program or is it just after high school?
(French med school student here)
@@LinaMed i'm brazilian for us first is just after pre-med(cursinho or high school)
How about French?(i plan on doing my residency there)
It's not a Zebra!
Believe me, I studied zoology!
The amount of doctors I had to go through to finally get my Zebra diagnosis is insane. I was tested for diabetes so many times, even when all tests came back negative, yet for a long time they refused to properly diagnose me, and technically still, with my diagnosis, they never gave me the ‘proper’ test
This is amazing!! They really outdid themselves this year!!!
Oh my goodness. Harvard Med consistently puts out the best parody videos!!
How are yall so good at everything from smarts, singing, and making such entertaining high production videos!!!
Hope to be treated by one of yall soon! :D
This song is House in a nutshell
Doctor: it's not a zebra
Me: I think it is tho
Doctor: nope, not possible
Guess what, I am a zebra. Thanx doc, zebras may be rare but they still exist
The one problem with this is for those of us who turn out to be at least a zebra if not a friggin’ unicorn. Despite many doctors in my extended family, getting genuine treatment was put off for decades because my physicians kept waffling and feeling certain it had to be something ordinary given that I wasn’t near death with organ failure. So, learn the lesson that I ended up on the wrong side of: zebras do exist, even if they are indeed the minority. Resistance to this possibility can wreck as many lives as building up exotic diagnoses in your imagination l
Disney needs to make a med school the musical and cast everyone in this
The zebra in 2:56 reminds me of being untalented in school plays and having to play a part of the scenery while everyone else where dancing, singing and acting and having a fun time.
"Deep Vein Thrombosis"
stands up...
Checking in again to remind you that telling doctors rare diseases don't happen RUINS LIVES
This is one of the best I’ve seen. Sooo cool guys!
It's amazing to be YOUNG, to STUDY, and ... DANCE and SING!
You have all the reason to feel so GREAT!
I was a theater major. If I'd known there was this much talent in pre-med I would've been too scared to finish my degree. ☺️
Love it! Keeping the legacy alive, Class of 2020 :)
That is awesome! I bet this was a ton of work^^ (the mitochondria tho😂) -miku
The powerhouse of the cell :D
i honestly love these kinds of videos
This was pretty rad! Will be hard to top next year!
This seriously made my day!👏😂
This got way too wholesome at the end, almost shed a tear. 👍
great Video!
And I wish doctors actually took this much time and effort to examine you and run all the tests!
I died at Tamiflu and that mitochondria LOL this video is awesome
Ok let’s just give the person who wrote this damn song a universe full of thanks! Imagine how hard it would be to put together this song
This is my favourite med school parody!!
It always gets me hyped up
Wow i have loved that last line of just cant wait to help somebody,I pray that God blesses all of you and gives you the courage and strength to keep on moving and fill you with love in whatever you do
Loved this. Brings back memories of when I was a med student.
Just let it sink in that someone went to Harvard to dress like a zebra.
this was...so pure. i loved it!!
Thank you for sharing this. I love happy doctors :)
This is the best one yet! I am in LOVE!!
Check out dear future doctor
I got excited and thought this was about EDS bc the animal for it is a Zebra
I had seen this before, but I recently watched House MD and appreciate it so much more 😂
Oh man, I am laughing and tearing lol
This is Awesome!!!!! Thank you for making this!
Oh darn it! Harvard students can be funny too
Awesome job!
Their voices are amazing
Very original and creative !!
The Ortho guys can't be more stereotypical XD XD XD
So cute, all you talents!!!!
I had so much fun scouring every clip for zebras lol! my favourite bit by far is the skin type 2 aha something about her expression has me in stitches
This is just amazing
thats amaizing ! good job guys 💪💪
little do we know - they are actually theatre majors and that's why they have so much free time on their hands to record, choreograph and film these videos
absolutely brilliant
This was actually really good quality
LMAOO I remembered first year, we literally came up with the weirdest diagnoses
Why have I watched this ten times in a row? Good job btw🙂😂
Lovely! As a medical teacher-> Love the creativity and the team work here 👍👍👏👏 My residents should see this 😆
Pretty impressive, great job Harvard medical school!!!
Over-excited med students when they saw their first patient.
This just made my (long boring study intensive) day!
Omg the guys’ voices were so full!
I hope they show their children this and they say that their major was youtube lol.
Yeah but personally when I had gotten to a hospital I had some symptoms that wouldn't stop and my really experienced doctors team did me the basic examines and found NOTHING but I knew something was wrong and they did too but they just couldn't find out so there was this one I think last examination and it was a teaching hospital so a bunch of excited students were there too cause they had never seen it cause it's a rare examination for when doctors really don't find something so the doctors said to the students that they couldn't find anything and those students FOUND it cause of their minds thinking I had a zebra so yeah sometimes they're right and that's cause experienced doctors will mostly look for common diseases and not really rare ones !
Edit : Also I said to my doctors that they could let the students move me around and be with me so they were so excited and it was actually really fun having them around and them being excited like 5 year olds giving them candies lol they were just so fun so yeah also they had more gently hands than the experienced doctors cause experienced doctors kind of lose this excitement and being gently so they get good grades but those experienced doctors just need a case that'll make them young again and spice up their doctor live again like when they were med students ! 😊
That’s such a nice story
These vocals are epic!
Great voices!
This is excellent
Reminds me on how I diagnosed a Ewing's Sarcoma while the attending was treating it as osteomyelitis on my first clinical rotation. Sometimes there is a zebra!
THANK YOU!!! I definately understand the overall idea of not looking for rare things, but it seems like so many doctors take that to mean that there are *never* zebras, and... Rare things definately do exist!
I'm glad you're aware, and I bet your patient was greatful that you figured it out! :)
@@likeabunnie yeah, that probably saved her life; which is what matters most to me!
I remember my attending told "if the biopsy comes negative for Ewing's, you have to pay for it yourself!"
So, I guess I've got lucky more than in one way!
Awesome video guys!
My grandma passed away from a literal zebra disease,
NET cancer, the zebra cancer ribbon-
When you hear clopping and neighing, think horse
But dont complelty out rule a zebra if you can't find the horse or the treatments not helping-
Most NET cancer patients don't survive more then a few months to a year, because it gets mistaken as a more common cancer
My grandma was lucky they caught it during an unrelated surgery, she got 3 more years after her diagnosis
Even if a disease is so much of a zebra that zebra print becomes the literal face of said disease,it still can and does happen to people.
To be honest, I found something awesome in James Agolia voice. He should sing more ;)
*laughs in EDS*
i chuckled
Someone should make a version of this for engineering majors! Good work on this video!
This is brilliant! Lots of love from Munich medical school!
I love this ❤️
Huge fan of this video!!!
The toxo cats clawing always cracks me up
Some of them have really good voices damn
20 years - to find out I had Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Doctors made me think I was crazy until someone connected a family history of juvenile arthritis and retinal detachments.
Sometimes it is a zebra...lol.
Yup! I'm begining to think the greatest challenge in medical practice is remembering to look for BOTH and not one or the other!
I feel so sorry for you
