Ever since I found out just how OP fishing is, I don’t ever hunt unless I absolutely have to lol Also IF you have to hunt, and don’t have a gun, if you hit a sheep or any other farm animal with a blunt melee weapon, like a bat, it will start to run after 1 hit, but if you crouch it will stop running almost immediately and let you hit it again 👍🏼 Happy Surviving
Hey bwad99! Great video! When you found the wrench earlier, that too could have been used to get small stones from the boulders. So the entire process can be even quicker! Great video though. You don't only show how to fish, you showed a practical, organic example. Great video!

I appreciate the video but I did find it amusing that the first thing you had to do to keep from starving in a video about using fishing as your source of food...was to eat some fruit to keep from dying while you assembled your fishing gear.

Probably making too much noise. If your are in their range of view and in their field of view they may see you, otherwise they are fairly easy to avoid. There were several Zombies in this video but he saw them and avoided them. I never noticed him sprinting in the video. Sprinting is noisy. I only sprint to clear an area faster than normal. He seldom wears boots, they are noisy. Zombies will agro on noise but usually start searching for the sight of you before they charge. If their back is to you and you are quiet they will not even realize you are around. If they are everywhere or in a bunch, go to another part of town. If you look up the street and you see 4 or more wondering around fairly close together (within 10-15 yards of each other), that is a sign someone is nearby and probably agroed them, go wide around them, and watch out for the player too. If 3 or more go after you, get into a building and shut all the doors. Then make ZERO noise for a while. They will hang around for a while but will eventually wander off.
They should rename this game to Starving simulator. Since it's more common to die because of lack of food then people and zombies. I find it absolutely hilarious when i gather lots of rare things like helmets in the house lying on a damn kitchen table and not find anything to eat or drink.

This was really helpful. I've had a fair share of successful runs when I'm able to collect fruit early on. The run before I looked this up, I ran back and forth in an orchard near Berezino for 20 minutes and eventually started looking for fishing gear before I died.I forgot they nerfed the orchards, but I've had success in the orchards near the water pump in Electro. I was also far inland and I found 4 fruit trees and ran circles around/between them and was able to amass a sufficient supply (they started dropping 2-3 fruit). I have a hard time finding fruit trees in the wild, although they're all over izurvive.
So the (next) run I started implementing this strategy out the gate worked so well! I'd collected a couple shirts and a raincoat (they can make 4 rags or a bunch of armbands) and a hammer that would allow me to make a stone knife to make other necessities. A player ran behind me as I approached the coast and asked if I needed fishing supplies, he's starving! since in fact I was and nearly able to fish, I made a knife and he made a fire. We were able to survive through his hunger. Unfortunately, after we started to go inland, he got sick (not positive why, but I think his thirst was yellow). We ran back to the coastal town to search for medicine. He was able to find a dust mask, but passed shortly after about 5 zombies rushed us. We kept getting stuck in the doors of the medical building. Then, after all, when I got back to the building we previously made it to, I found a recently raided base 3 building further down with too much for me to carry. I settled on a full NBC suit and my next Rify...
I have to add if you are struggling getting a knife, a big wrench or spanner against a big rock will make a small stone- then use same rock to make small stone into stone knife… saves my life so many times. Great guidance as always Billy 👌🫶
A different video I watched showed if you headshot them, and use a pristine tool, you'll get the most from your kill. Apparently the tools quality plays a role.
Played a server with added AI. Spend more than about 6 minutes in any area and they spawn to hunt you down. No time for fishing or cooking. Loot and scoot, always running like a frightened rabbit.
I wish they would have fewer zombies. About the time I can get enough food to survive I end up having to fight off half a dozen zombies at once. Need to be able to set the zombie population on each map.
Big game can also produce guts, which with a knife make rope. Every time, it seems, they make pristine rope, which is unlike rag ropes (which can vary based on condition of rag used).
If pristine rags are used the rope will be too..... But your right big game and domesticated animals almost always produce guts that can be turned into rope!!
around pds there are fruit trees and if you go in a circle to all the trees most likely they respond bout time you complete the circle they respond pretty fast
@dkcrook5 for sure. But the improv fishing method is a long term solution to food. Much more convenient and reliable to have at your disposal in a pinch
Also, dkcrook, while that is definitely a method to get food, running around a PD is also kinda dangerous cause that's usually a hotspot that players come to loot. A friend and I used to rely on fruits a lot.....but after discovering fishing we almost always just go straight for fishing. Only challenging things usually is to get bones to craft a hook.

KNIFE is the problem. It works with almost any blade (saws, hatchet, ax, etc). If you feel it just HAS to be a knife, he made a couple of knives in the video. A knife can also be made with a couple of rocks. Most players keep their eyes open and manage to get several butcher knives, I usually can only find steak knives. But if you watch many DayZ videos you will see people using everything you can think of with a sharp edge, and some that I can't think of.
Great tutorial B. Your guides are top notch and required viewing for anyone wanting to survive. Just thinking though, wouldnt it be extra efficient if we could save more storage slots by somehow maybe wearing the rope instead of carrying it in inventory? Lol. Maybe one day the devs will make it happen. 😉
You can! Hold a rope in your hands and it will give you a prompt to tie it into a belt, which will give you an extra slot on your hotbar and 1 inventory slot to hold a knife. You can also hold the belt in your hands for a prompt to untie it into a rope!

Frees up inventory space, less weight/more stamina, better immune system the fuller your food/water is, you don't feed your murderer if you save some food.

My go to food day 1 is fruit. Mushrooms feed me going inland. And no fishing is not OP. You;d rather have to make a boat and deep sea fish?

They need to make it so u can make ur own weapons like a bow from rope and a long stick they need some tips from Scum
Cut up the fish at the water source and wash your hands there. Or wear gloves for butchering your meat.
