DIY Guide: Building a Budget Race Transmission with SlickShifting Trick

- In this video we start the process of building a home built race stick shock transmission. We take a stock manual transmission and modify it to make it more efficient to bang shift. In this video I explain what it is and start the process. #stickshift #vintageracecars #oldschool #frizzellracing #homebuilt #builtnotbought

Good video Bobby!...the old school racers weren't afraid to try anything that might give them an advantage... some things worked and some didn't, but that's what it's all about...I'll be waiting for part 2!
Absolutely. A lot of the stuff that is just common place now was all because some racer somehow figured it out and started winning with it. Thank you for watching
Hello, thanks for sharing this old school modification I like it and looking forward to see / watch part two and much more. Greetings God bless thank you and take care
@@antoineagius1181 thank you for watching and for the feedback
I wish more people watch this because I would love to see part 2
@@bandcshow11d6 it’s weird what people seem to be interested in on UA-cam. I thought this would be a home run video but it seems like it landed kinda flat. But I will most likely do a second part when I get caught up anyway
@ I think it’s UA-cam’s algorithm system that’s the issue car guys love this stuff and if UA-cam pushed it I think people would watch it
@ I kinda believe that myself. I believe it’s just not getting out there to people
When I was in high school we did that to top loaders. We called them crash box four speeds. Only used the clutch to access reverse and first from a stop. The rest of the time it was full throttle shifts with no clutch. The top loader was a very good tranny at the time when coupled to the ford nine inch differential. The ford nine inch is a piece of cake to set up. Easily done by anyone.
@@fatherguidosarduchi5204 I agree it use to be a common thing, personally what I think kinda made it fade away is tire technology combined with glue technology. As tires and glues have gotten better the stock gear can’t take a lot of “dead hooks” that shock will eventually break those smaller gears. Now oh street tires on the road, red light to red light stuff. I honestly think they will still live forever, even drag radials and the occasional track hits they will probably still live. Thank you for watching
A great video on the transmission modification
Thank you very much
Looking forward to part 2!
@@vrm86gt thank you very much
thanks for the tricks Bobby !!!
Thank you for watching
You should be able to do this on any manual transmission with synchro and sliders. I know alot of the modern 6 speeds will grind when the synchros get worn. I'd love a no clutch shift T56. For free. Lol.
@@egodeathplease in theory you are correct. I’ve only ever done it on 3 and 4 speeds. But essentially all the manuals are the same just more stuff inside the case.
@frizzellracing I remember my brother talking about doing this to an old M 21. I had forgotten about it until now.
i new to your channel, what's the story on the red car in your shop ? is it a race car ? could you a video on it ?
@@josephhaines3817 there is a couple video on it on the channel. It’s a race car but not actually mine. Mine is the white one you see in the intro. More videos on it will be coming soon
And I can do this with a top loader 3spd also??
Yes. Just make sure you have a good shifter. You don’t want to slam it into reverse thinking you’re going to 2nd. Because it’s gonna go, and it’s gonna be a bad when it does
interesting vid
Thank you
@@frizzellracing what is the issue with leaving the syncros in?
@ makes it harder to bang shift at high RPMs. Honestly you could leave them if your not planning 7K bang shifts
@@frizzellracing yea no plan for 7k shifts lol
