Even if it uncommon there’s still a lot of parents who very much do not have their children’s best interest at heart, this law helps protect those children, I think this law will prevent much more damage than it could cause

Sometimes I just like to understand things a little bit better, and be able to see both side sides.
I do know there is some kind of percentage of kids that could never have a conversation with their parents based upon perhaps premature conversations about it they have witnessed, that just happened to come about along the way based upon maybe the reactions or the comments that their parents make.
It is kind of sad to hear that a child would feel safer talking about their own sexuality with their teacher or administrator at school, then their own parents because and based upon fear.
It’s just a sad reality all the way around, I’m not one for government over reach by any means at the same time I would never want a child to be abused or minimized or rejected either.
It just creates such a polarization in trying to figure it all out because you don’t want to hurt anyone and you don’t want to point fingers at anyone either.
I do want to certainly give thanks and credit to those parents, that can always have good own honest and open conversations with their kids, and being open and accepting to their hearts and feelings though.

They've shared this with their peers and a few trusted teachers to find support and comfort since their family would not accept them for being a Christian. In fact, if their family ever found out, it is very likely they will suffer some form of violence.
Unfortunately for this student, the school district has mandated that all teachers who notice a student's change in religious identity are compelled to share this information with the parents. Now these trusted teachers will be compelled to disclose the student's new religious identity, even though they know it will cause harm to the student.
If you find the situation I just described wrong, but are against this new California law, then im afraid you're a hypocrite and a bad person who just hates trans people.

Ok, well in the situation involving the student who wants to convert to Christianity but who's Muslim parents will harm them if they find out, do you believe that teachers should NOT keep that a secret and be forced to tell their abusive parents?? You have either two options here:
1. You stand by what you said. The teacher _should_ tell the abusive parents about their conversion, which means the student will now most likely suffer abuse.
2. You backtrack and realize that there are some things that parents shouldn't know about and be kept secret from

@@Rozenkrantzz Except for the separation between church and state. Teachers are not allowed to discuss religious anything with any student or parent therefore your example is not very good. Talking to students about ANYTHING sexual can quickly land a teacher in hot water, especially male teachers.
Lastly, using Islam as an example of child abuse and making a blanket statement that Muslim parents will abuse their child if they choose to convert is just plain ignorant and quite racist on your part. If we do suspect there is or will be child abuse, that’s where being a mandated reporter comes in.

Nor does this law prohibit teachers from disclosing this if they want. All it does is prohibit school districts from _mandating_ that teachers disclose this information

If there is a child wanting to transition is because he/she doesn't feel comfortable expressing himself/herself in their environment. If that's the case, everyone must have a talk, the kid, the classmates, the family of the kid, the teachers, etc. It reflects an emotional problem with the boy/girl, as well as problems at home and problems in society and education of all classmates that may be harassing this person.

This law says that it's up to the kid to determine who gets to know. If the kid suspects their parents to not have their best interest in mind if it comes out if course the teacher telling the parents would be bad for the kid. This law protects that from happening it gives power to the kid on who gets to know. Consent. If the kid doesn't feel ready to come out the kid shouldn't be forced to come out.

I'm not sure about you but i would have hated if my parents found out i was Bi at 14-15 because my teacher spoke about it to them without my permission. i chose my own timing to tell them and i want to aford that freedom to everyone. i also know some people that got straight up cut out from their family because of their gender and/or sexuality. and they were of age when they told them. Why should their parents have to be told that by a 3rd party? think that would have gone better?
They are talking in circles. So what they are saying is they do not want the parents to know that their kids are outing themselves.
Coming out is a very personal event and no one has the right to "out" another. Kids need to have the conversation with the parent when they are ready, and they should have the safety of talking to a teacher about how to do that without repercussions.

They are simply saying that a school counselor can work with a teen to come out to his or her family rather than betraying the trust by outing a student when they aren't ready. I'm confused. So these kids will ask others to use their personal pronouns in school but when it comes to teacher/parent meetings, the teacher is then supposed to use the parent's preferred traditional pronouns for their child for the sake of hiding it? The only reason why kids would be confiding special pronouns to their teachers in the first place is if they are teaching this in the classes. I thought we were born this way, not influenced this way but apparently Newsom and school districts feel otherwise.

This is not a law requiring kids to keep secrets, this is a law prohibiting anyone from requiring the spoiling kids' secrets.
No they are wrong, teachers have no right to hide information from parents especially none educational related items. Teachers need to stick to reading, writing and arithmetic and if they are concerned about child abuse they can report their concerns but cannot deliberately hide information from parents.

I strongly disagree with the California law that allows schools to withhold information from parents about their child's gender identity. As a parent, I believe it is my fundamental right and responsibility to know and support my child's well-being, including their gender identity.
Parents are the primary caregivers and providers for their children, responsible for their physical, emotional, and financial well-being. We are the ones who provide love, support, and guidance to help our children navigate the world.
By not notifying parents about their child's gender identity, the school is essentially inserting itself between the parent and child, undermining the parent's role and responsibility. This law disregards the fact that parents have a unique and intimate understanding of their child's needs, struggles, and emotions.
Furthermore, I believe that schools should not be influencing children's sexuality by suggesting that they don't need to identify with any gender. This is a complex and sensitive topic that requires careful consideration and guidance from parents, not schools.
The California law fails to recognize the importance of parental involvement in a child's life and instead prioritizes the school's agenda. I firmly believe that parents have the right to know and be involved in their child's gender identity, and that this law is a violation of that right.
The California law recognizes that Students are diverse and have diverse orientations. No school is telling a child anything about their gender. They are simply providing the support that these kids need in figuring out how to come out to family. It also protects these kids from potentially abusive parents. School HAS to be a safe place for kids who can't tell their parents and whose parents are too thick and self absorbed to notice their child is going through something.

Parents has every right to know what's going on with their kids, that the sole provider, nature, love and care. School are influencing the students making them confused. When I was young & considered myself LGBT they fed us this same line: tried to convince us so much of the world hates us and our parents might kick us out or possibly kill us if we came out. Sure, there are occasionally parents like that but they are honestly few and far-between. Kids stay stronger when they stay with their families. Stop creating divisive ideas.

If a Parent doesn’t know whether their child identifies as a him, her, it, what, then they have already failed as a Parent. If a child hides it, obviously they’re afraid of retribution. Also why have Teachers, who are Public Servants, be required to do more reporting unrelated to education…, let them teach….contrary to less Government involvement in our lives.
I don’t agree with the schools or anyone for taking the rights from parents to parent their kids. If they feel so strongly about safety for those kids after parents react in a way they don’t like, then create safe homes just like foster care for them, but don’t take the parents rights away.
Thank God we aren't forcing teachers to abide by parents' religion. If you want religious education Send them to religious schools.

You are looking at this from a skewed perspective. This is about protecting LGBTQIA+ kids from potentially abusive parents as well as supporting them through a time of growth. They need to be able to come out to their families in their own time.

There is so much garbage kids get caught up in public schools, there is NO WAY I could endorse a policy which keeps parents out of the loop on anything my child is facing or being brainwashed or manipulated into believing. This is dangerous social engineering that de-legitimizes the parents and their responsibility for their own children.
LGBTQIA+ children have a lot to cope with, and unfortunately, they do not always have a homelife that can support them. Sharing this with some parents can mean a child is abused once they get home.

It is a good thing. This will protect LGBTQIA+ children from abusive parents. It is imperative to an LGBTQIA+ child's development to have someone they can trust and confide in without having to worry about being "outed."

If you think that your child learning about other people that exist who may be different from or even like them, might turn your child LGBTQIA+, then just give your child a book about a straight character, that will turn them straight by the same mechanism, and all is good for you.
