When you hear so many of those riffs back to back like that it really makes you wonder how amazing it is that one person wrote all of those-and that's only a small portion of them all. Normal guitarists would be lucky to even have come up with a few of those, yet Page came up with so much, and it's all completely genius. It's just incredible and it's why he's always been one of my largest influences as a guitarist myself. Anyway, nice job on the video. Well done.
Beautifully done Carl, Jimmy Page OMG grew up listening to Led Zeppelin on vinyl @ 33rpm there’s so many layers I could never figure out how Jimmy played them.. now all has been revealed and I still can’t play them 😀🎸
Love it! Don't think anyone else has mentioned it: Immigrant Song into Wanton Song was a nice nod to an arrangement that was used on the first Page/Plant tour in 1995.
Forgive the long story, Carl, but I love your channel for all the Zeppelin stuff and I just wanted to a share my own Zeppelin story. I'm 46, so I didn't get into Led Zeppelin until I was 14, I think. I was a dishwasher at a small town diner in upstate NY in the summer of 1990. In walks these two fellows with long hair and one of the waitresses sarcastically says, "Uh oh, here comes Motley Crue." Well another waitress looked and says, "Holy crap, I think that's Robert Plant!" from Led Zeppelin. I didn't have a clue who she was talking about. Of course I had heard of Led Zeppelin, but I never actually heard them, so I was oblivious to who Robert was. Anyway, we all ended up getting his autograph. He was on tour in Saratoga for the Manic Nirvana album, I think it was at that time. They were just going for a ride through the Adirondacks and saw the lake down the hill behind the diner and wanted to go sit by it, so they stopped in. I don't know who the other guy he was with was , but he didn't say much. Robert was cool as a cucumber and super nice to us yokels. Meeting him and that autograph sparked my curiosity in Led Zeppelin. I was into rock, but never had the pleasure of listening to LZ. About a week or two later I found a tape in my friend's brothers car that he kind of abandoned and it was Physical Graffiti, so I took it home (stole it). BAM! Instant fan and it was all Led Zeppelin obsession for awhile thereafter. I still have the tape, though it's in rough shape. If you truly took the time to read all that, thanks!
17 is a good number of great riffs for an artist. Many have gone on the stardom with far fewer than that. And Jimmy has maybe over a hundred riffs that are his alone. Amazing artist, Jimmy
Finally! I KNEW there was something wrong with how just about everyone plays the Custard Pie riff. Seriously, the final note in the first part of the riff was the topic of many conversations back when we all used to compare notes with each other. One fellow used to ring out the open G string on the high note and that was close, but still not **quite right**. None of us ever thought to shift position and add the major 3rd. As soon as I heard (and saw) what you were doing it was like the clouds parted and the sun peeked out.
There is such satisfaction in hearing the endless fountain of Jimmy Page’s imagination all strung together. And then there’s the double whammy of an awesome guitarist enjoying that satisfaction himself. Thanks for sharing Carl 🙏
For classic rock fans and admirers of JP-impossible not to like. A vivid reminder (if one was needed) of just how many amazing guitar parts JP has embedded in the international music consciousness. Great job, Carl.
As a young guitarist that’s really into Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, your channel is gold. I really appreciate how in depth your videos are. I’ve learned a lot from you and I just found your channel a couple days ago. Keep the videos coming, I’m learning a lot.
What a fun medley! I've got to say, though, the bridge from of The Wanton Song is probably the most unexpected section in any Zeppelin song. That chord progression Jimmy Page dishes out is priceless, and makes the song.
riffs are awesome hearing them every morning while my father drinking his coffee before going to work interchanging cassette tape everyday of many band during the 70 60 80 era while im jumping on the seat enjoying the sounds listening to them high school days college days up to now like an echoing sounds that keep on coming back
Thanks for bringing a smile and tapping of toes on an otherwise boring day. LZ has to be my favorite group of all time. Iconic songs, iconic riffs. Lucky to have been there listening to them from the start.... Luckier to have seen them in concert in the 70s...what a time to be a teenager!
Great video as usual Carl. I'd love to hear your take on Hot Dog. A lot of cool licks in that solo and another example of Jimmy's mercurial playing and endless versatility. I'll even lend you my tele for the video lol.
Oh man, great list! You got Out on the Tiles in there too! Awesome! And they say Page didn't really like Living Loving Maid (citing the fact that he never played it live), but I like that song. Fun to play. Nice job, again!
Lately, at the for the past SEVERAL months, I’ve been jamming out to “Bring it on Home” and “The Lemon Song” in my work truck. Such INCREDIBLE riffs, and when joined on the recording by John Paul Jones and John Bonham, then by Robert Plant on vocals, all is well in my world, no matter how my day was going prior to hearing them. I’m 51 and grew up listening to them on the radio.
Carl, I'm glad I stumbled onto your videos a couple weeks ago, I watch something every day, I pray you have great success with these, you have a great spirit and knowledge of much of the best years of rock and roll. Thank You. Keep up the great work.
Awesome playing and list. Bravo 👏 very well done and executed. Cool that you included the crunge, very underrated track from the zeppelin cannon. Rock on 🤘
A 5 minute snapshot of why Jimmy is the greatest riffmeister of all time. All 17 riffs so unique, distinctive and so tasteful. Great job Carl! Out of curiosity did you do this "off the cuff" or did you have the riff list planned? With Page/Led Zep you could easily pick out another 17 riffs and do a part II 👍
I definitely planned them and arranged the segues by key and feel. I had to practice it several times to get it all flowing and not make too many mistakes. It’s impossible to play all those riffs in one sitting perfectly. I gave it my best!
Well done! Carl that was out standing, I am learning so much from watching your awesome insights into Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. I would love to see some more performances by you and your band playing Zeppelin. 🤘👏👏👏🎸😎
Very cool Carl. You look right groovey during the lemon riff. I was also suprised with how open notes are in the hunter section. I often use that riff with myh warm up licks. Thanks Carl. So fun.
I saw Jimmy during a solo tour, and he did a section kinda like this. He'd be doing some vague guitar noodling, and then he'd drop in a few seconds of some notable riff and the crowd would roar with recognition and approval. He'd go back to guitar noodling, drop in another riff, and the crowd would go wild again. It was impressive to see how many riffs he had which everyone could recognize within 10-15 seconds. It'd be nice to add some of the riffs from "In the Evening". And maybe at least a dozen other songs! 🙂
Carl, I really enjoy your videos. You are so talented and the best playing Zepplin I’ve ever heard Jimmy page is a great guitarist, but also a great songwriter and you bring that out.
I'm glad you always alternative pick whole lotta love. That's the way I always heard it on the record but my guitar teacher from way back when insisted that it was all down picks for the low E.
I recently corrected it as I had it wrong as a kid. I just couldn’t find the groove, then I watched JP play it, and tried it, and it exploded under my fingers. The upstrokes are where the groove lives. Thank you for commenting. Please subscribe share!
Thanks for sharing these riffs and the passion you have. I can feel the pleasure you have playing these riffs and how accurate they are. I don't know if you share the same pleasure but zz tops riffs would be something I would imagine you playing. Just a thought. Thanks once again and keep it up.
16. Title says "The Lemon Song". Carl: fck it! * plays Houses of the Holy * 😁
I guess, one does get your lemon squeezed in the house of holy sooooo
16 was Houses of The Holy 16.5 was Lemon Song ;) Just needed 10 Years Gone and Dancing Days, Sick Again, The Rover and Achilles :) Awesome Carl!!
Nobody's Fault But Mine.
In The Evening
Since I’ve been lovin’ you :-)
He was the only one who missed that, but just a labeling oversight
lol. Ahhh, just include the entire Page riff catalog.
When you hear so many of those riffs back to back like that it really makes you wonder how amazing it is that one person wrote all of those-and that's only a small portion of them all. Houses of the Holy is such a secret riff it doesn’t even get a number. 🙏🏽
Jimmy Page - A Riff Lord of the Highest order. BTW - loved seeing the joy on your face as you tore through these.

Felt just like 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome all over again!
Appreciate your channel so much Carl
My old stomping ground!
They Didn’t play Silverdome in ‘75, they did in ‘77 though
"Does anyone remember laughter?" Actually I think they'd stopped playing Stairway by 1975.
Loved them all and your smile confirms pure joy. Thanks for including Bring It On Home and The Ocean.

And that even with the alternate tuning riffs. Sweet !

Brilliant. And you looked like you were having tons of fun 😀😀😀
Fantastic Compilation. Jimmy was & is the undisputed Riff King. Not sure The next 2 or 3 bands combined would have 17 as memorable riffs 🤔
jimmy page is a machine of awesome riffs
Nice job. All my favorites we learned to play. We even took turns moving the needle back on the vinyl. Great times and memories. Thank you.

Love your tone. You’ve really nailed it
You have lived out/are living out my dream as a guitarist.
Wow! Thank you!!
Just amazing feel and attention to detail Carl ....you are an excellent player and teacher!
That might be the most uplifting video I have seen in a long time! Thank you Carl, you are a gem.
Masterful.....and what a legacy.
what's amazing is his riffs are so simple just basic blues stuff, but once you hear them you never forget them.
Great! The best rock band ever!
Each one greater than the last...I couldn't love them more!
Brilliant enjoyed it all, I saw Led Zeppelin at Earls Court and Knebworth.
Wow!!!
Thank you for helping me realize I know more JP riffs than I thought! Always enjoy your talent wit and playing Sir

Yep. That was it. Awesome job. The second part of the Black Dog riff always confuses me. But I'm drummer so...
Thank you.
Thanks for capturing the essence of those riffs. Just as powerful in stark relief as with the band.
