We compare the graphics of GTA 5 Original / Vanilla with Redux Mod on PC. Both are captured with maximum graphics settings. GTA 5 Redux enhances the game with new visuals, weather system and gameplay. It adds textures and other elements through a OpenIV install package and adds ReShade + ENB effects. GTA 5 Redux is made by Josh Romito, the same author of the Pinnacle of V mod. Both mods are accused to rip off code from other GTA 5 mods as VisualV. We could not provide a fps counter, because we had to use two different systems to capture. As many other players we suffered from crashes and bugs while installing the mod. Vanilla can also have a bright blue sky. It just depends on the time of day and weather. All these mods that changes the games graphics and shit because they just ruin the games original art direction. They look completely out of place and broken.
The sky on redux looks like a big image paste on the background. the clouds don't have movement. Its so superficial and fake.. Vanilla mod is more natural. Redux makes that the games looks as darkness.. expectations of this mod were more than reality.

why is it with all these graphics mods they add a lot of crushed blacks. like you can barely see stuff in the shadows.

That isn't how it happens in real life. This mod (except for the amazing high-res textures) does not look more than a blue color tint with darker blacks. In real life, the camera would only be able to adjust its exposure to look at either the sky and other really bright things, or the shadow projected by a building, like in this picture: www.copybook.com/media/military/profiles/vio/migrated/images/Exposure-Control-System1.jpg
But the mod does not do that, instead it uses a different exposure for each different element in the scene, so if you're looking at a dark alley and you want to see inside it, you'd increase exposure length, and the sky would be brighter and brighter, but this mod does not do that, so it doesn't feel realistic.
If you come out of a dark room, your eyes have to adjust to the new exposure. Your eyes aren't always ready for those sudden new amounts of light, so things don't have the right brightness to your eyes instantly.
TL;DR: This mod doesn't control exposure correctly so everything looks like it was filmed under the same lighting conditions.
Those modders just don't get it. They want to make the image 'pop', but it just looks like shit.

HEY, so i just installed the REDUX mod, and for me it is locked at 60fps. I have a 144hz monitor and ofcourse i would like to go above 60fps, is there a file that i need to go into for REDUX and type a command code to unlock the fps? Cause staying at max 60fps the game is lagging for me. In GTA V settings it shows that my monitor settings is at 144hz so not sure why it isn't going above 60fps?

Have you tested the mod yourself? If not then try it out, you will most likely notice alot of neat details like the reworked textures and lighting effects.

I was just about to say exactly this but it looks like someone beat me to the punch. A lot of people don't appreciate the value of lighting that is consistent across all environments. Just because you can make one environment look better doesn't mean your lighting as a whole is better.

***** It really looks no different than the settings I play at. I have adjusted the colors on my monitor already to look the way they have it in the redux mod. I know there were improvements, and the mod changed a lot, I just don't think the graphics of the mod are all they've been hyped up to be.

All it is sharpening and oversaturation with removal of fog... And people think its ground breaking... Skyrim modded that something else, but this i prefer vanilla

i dont know in which world most people life, but when i look out of my window, nothign there shines that bright and colorful or got such high contrast from light to shadow. Vanilla often mirrors the big, grey city scenario better, in my opinion.
redux is meant to look more.. beautiful you can say, whilst vanilla looks more gloomy and realistic (sorta)

Vanilla is too wishywashy imo, but redux is overly dark sometimes. Bit less contrast, less saturation and a tint bit more gamma and Redux wins.

+SwizzleDude If you're talking about the graphics themselves then that doesn't make any sense. The textures have been upgraded to 4K, the shaders are just optional. So from an objective standpoint it looks better.

Except Vanilla does look better. The colors on this mod look like someone just pushed up the contrast and saturation to 100.

Chicken Party all they did in redux is add more reflections and turn down the brightness and boost the saturation
they did alot more than that man, they retextured every road in the game + some advertisements, overhauled the ragdoll system (replacing it with the euphoria engine) completely remade the suspension and car physics system, replaced the gun sounds and replaced the water textures and physics
(even tho josh romito, the guy who made it stole everything to make it lol)
The only problem is the saturation...i trust rockstar with there talents with there accuracy as you can see on this video.. For me vanilla is better, but the mod version has to much saturation it is even worse at day time

GTA V Redux is not made from 100% reworked and scratch, its a compliation of mods from modders who didn't get credit. If you all dig deeper intl this, you would realize that this Josh Romito has a history of using mods without modders consent. Just giving you all words of wisdom.

The redux mod is mostly focused on balance and gameplay changes, graphics is just half of it. The dancing trees are more realistic, so it only made sense to include them.

Redux does much more than just graphical things...
If you guys went to the Redux page or even watched the video over it you'd realize there are about 15 different presets for graphical enhancements. It's not just the one Candyland is showing us. There are several different ones. Plus the mod is much more than just graphical overhaul. Gameplay and other features are overhauled too.
Apart from the very last scene, the bulevard at the beach, I agree and found most effects / changes to be over the top. At best it looks like a tempered photo. More realistic? Yes, but not quite. Uncanny-valley-teritory. While vanilla has a unique look and style of a great looking game imho.
Realistic is not always best; when the contrasts are too strong, the effects too blinding, the nights too dark (it really was too dark, this is a city there should be some residual lighting)...the graphics become impractical. I bet this can be very stressful to the eyes while playing.
Then again...mods like these, I often think they're not so much for actually playing but rather to take pretty screenshots. :D

The vanilla color palette is better for the most part. That nighttime scene is just stunning with the mod though. That's incredible.
Man, it seems like for every thing redux improves there is something else that suddenly looks really unnatural. I guess it's a taste thing, but I prefer the overall look of vanilla, even though I like some of the enhanced textures and effects.

for some reason the game CTD at random times for me with the redux mod installed and i dont know why as i have a GTX 980 ti and a intel i7 4790k @ 4.0ghz and 32 gb RAM and a 64 bit OS
***** i actually found that i did a few steps of the installation wrong initially and when i reinstalled vanilla game and followed the steps properly (and installed the day 1 patch) i was able to use the mod :)

Yup, it still includes the reworked textures and better distance scaling, but doesn't really inpact performance as much as the heavy enb's :)

Then I check what PC specs needed for it to run smoothly, after I read the specs, I go to a corner and cry.

Bluesh filters and darker colors almost all the time on Redux, but somethings like the Sky box looks better at some weather presets, Vanila is still the way it meant to be played.

More to this mod than visuals. I dig the visuals but understand the gripe. The cars and guns are the highlight of this mod. Much more realistic. Hope they work on the sounds.
Overall i prefer the vanilla, the warmer atmosphere is relaxing. But at night redux is great, the reflections are mind blowing in the rain at night.
For starter, Vanilla is already beautiful. But Redux, damn, they worked really well on this one. Way better lighting, better reflexions, 4K textures and sharper.
that part in the swamp reminds me of the Playstation meeting the other week when they showed the image with hdr off and on.

some things the vanilla does better is the overcast rain cause the shadows are softer than redux which is more like real life, the displacement in the waves is too chaotic for the panning of the waves, and sometimes the occlusion shadows are a little strong: the scene with the black car.

Nice comparison, I am not a big fan of the overblown Depth of field effect personally but I do think it looks better overall. And an FPS counter on the mod would have been good.
