    I seeded a section of RTF back in Oct 2022. This spring it's come in real good. Super thick, it also seems to be very drought tolerant, going back to last summer. I am betting it's going to be even better this summer. So, it seems to me RTF takes awhile to establish, but once it does, it makes for a very hearty and great looking lawn.

    Im going back to RTF, ordering 4 bags tonight! The amount of fungicides and water im putting down is insane. I only applied propiconazole maybe 3 times in 3 years when using RTF seed, and my water usage was 15k gallons lower per month.

    Great video. Thank you! I have overseeded my GCI TTTF front yard with Barenbrug RTF based on the health and quality of an area I seeded last year (both areas about 10k sq ft). This year my RTF grass never went dormant, never had fungal issues, is noticeably thicker and less “thatchy” as my front yard. I’m excited to see how it performs in the ovesrseed and hoping that it holds up better year on year in my snow-belt New York winter.

      Oh yeah! I love hearing the RTF success stories. With the steady rising cost of seed I’m hoping the RTF will help eliminate the need for overseeding. I’ve seen it to be more disease tolerant so here’s hoping.

    I'm next door to you in Palmyra, VA (outside of Charlottesville) and new to the area. My new construction "lawn" is just red clay dirt right now. Planning to get some Super Turf RTF after watching your video and will sow this September. A few questions...Did you start with new construction yourself? If so, what kind of soil amendments did you add to get the soil ready for the seed? I'm thinking pellet lime to raise pH, till in some compost for organics, level with topsoil, spread seed, rake it in, cover with straw over the Winter. Thoughts?
    Thanks!

      @@keithcovington7176 hi there. I started with sod on a new construction lawn. They didn’t lay top soil so I had to work to amend the soil over time. I used biochar, Humic acid and seaweed. I searched United Seed because that's the type I've used the last two years. I ordered several of their tttf blends, three of which is in the first one you used. It germinates in 5 day's. I have tried several various fescue brands, Seedsuperstore, Jonathon Green, etc. So far, I like United the best, the Seedsuperstore is also good, but, more expensive. My main issue I have, with no matter which one I use is fungus, grey leaf spot and brown patch. What a battle! Your lawn really looks awesome. Good video info. Thanks, John, Indiana

    I think spread will be slow. If you can make what I did years ago and have a test plot out of 2x8 boards about 3 feet wide and 5 feet long or whatever dimension ypu can. Start grass in middle or outer edge and leave the other area open or do strips of grass and see how they fill in. Then you can use test plot for plugs. That is what I did for my dog spots with kbg.

    How did the RTF do in the fall? I have used RTF the past 2 years. From talking with the seed companies, most of the RTF takes 6 months to a 1 before it will spread. It has to establish itself vertically before it can spread. I’m wondering if a fall nitrogen blitz would help it spread once it’s established , kinda like it helps KGB spread and fill in.

    • @GirLzLawn
      @GirLzLawn  Рік тому

      It is still looking good but no real noticeable spreading. Once the grass kind of spreads and covers the surface it’s tough to get in there to check for lateral spreading. I’ve never done the blitz but I guess it could work.

      I got the 50 I believe, it says “no net “ on a tiny tag but no mention of seed used and in an unlabeled white bag.

      @@sueypaintballer So, yes, you bags will likely look different than mine. I have only gotten the 10 and 20lb bags and they both look different from each other. The No-Net is a Lateral Spreading Fescue but you should have had a blue tag on it showing the typical weed/crop content, which should be 0% for both of those.

    Great video. I’ve been looking at the LS fescue for a while. Since the particular mixture you used is all LS, do you think the overseed frequency will be reduced? I’ve been on the fence with going with Bermuda due to the spreading qualities since TTTF seed prices are outrageous. I’m in the Transition zone so I could go either.

    • @GirLzLawn
      @GirLzLawn  2 роки тому +1

      I’m hoping the overseed frequency will be less, but I really don’t know yet. I will tell you that the RTF is not going to spread as aggressively and as well as Bermuda. I do think it’s going to reduce overseeding some.

    So is it spreading or not? Why would it take a year to spread?

      Hi. It’s growing but likely not spreading by Rhixzomes yet. The spreading is not as aggressive as warm season grasses.

      @@miltonenglish1679 If you do, you’re basically overseeding just like you would a regular Fescue. The added benefit is that as this RTF establishes, it will eventually be able to fill in bare spots that you may get in the lawn. Ideally that would mean less overseeding needed in the future.

    Hmmm, I might want to try RTF. Over time will I have a thatch problem? Can I mow it 3 to 4 inches? I am in southern Calif. thx.

      I can’t answer the thatch question. Per the seed that I use, it can be mowed as low as 2” and up.

    So, how do you feel the plugs worked out in the end? I heavy overseeded RTF this year, including a small area I killed.off due to undesirables. Overall it came in well, but I have some patches that didn't come in well, from investigation it looks like I had a peat moss spreader incident in those spots. I went back and raked it out, but not confident it will come in well due to timing, and not babying it with water. With that considering pre-emergent and then trying to plug the gaps in the spring.
    Thoughts?
    I am in NoVA for reference.

    • @GirLzLawn
      @GirLzLawn  Рік тому +1

      The plugs were GREAT! The best thing is that you can still apply your pre-emergent if you are using plugs to fill spots instead of seeding. I use my Proplugger and found that putting 3 of the plugs in a hole from the Proplugger was perfect. Someone recently gave me a tip on specific pots to use for the plugs where as one pot will fit in the Proplugger hole. I will be trying the pots out in the Spring. I'm still chasing Poa Trivialis so I will definitely need to do the plugs again in the Spring.
