I just found this video. for the first time ever, I get to show my sons their grandfather playing Alabama football. #81 Mike Ford DE 65-69 passed away before both my sons were born and they have never had the opportunity to see him play. I can't thank you enough for posting these videos
As for the date of the game, Ala. at Tenn. was on Oct 19, 1968. Normally, Chris Schenkel would have been teamed with Bud Wilkinson, but it was Keith Jackson instead that day, because Chris was down in Mexico City as part of ABC's crew for the 1968 Summer Olympic Games, which were going on at that time.
I love these videos, thank you. The first thing to jump out at me was that Tennessee had a black starting wideout. In 1968. Most other Southern programs wouldn't integrate for two or three years. Interesting.
Interesting this was on AstroTurf. Probably one of the first stadiums besides the AstroDome to use artificial turf (which over the next couple of years would become much more prominent).
His dad was the attorney general in Alabama and was for racial justice for blacks, the people obviously in those days did not like him, Flowers went to UT because the people of Alabama dogged his dad because of it. Look it up.
hey William , check out " Saturdays in the south , a history of s e c football ," u will love it. Tennessee had players like lester McClain , Haskell stanback around these times , condredge Holloway came a little later , terrific black ball players . see if u can find " against the tide " an h b o or showtime documentary on the alabama - southern cal matchup back in those days , must see tv for any true college football fan .
Funny how they didn't even show a replay of the block, just as well been sitting in my car watching it. They were even very biased against UT back in '68.🖕

This was the first event ever seen on a color television in my home. I was 8 years old and the TV was delivered just in time for kickoff.

Should have been called the Fall Olympics when they happen in October.

Great game!..Love the old commercials too lol
Flowers all over the field that day!
The great days of football in the SEC
Was at the game GBO-VFL!
Great win for Tennessee,DB Jimmy Rutherford of Tennessee saved the day
Weatherford.
Wasn't Richmond Flowers an Alabama boy and recruited by Coach Bryant? There was some bruhaha about him not going to Alabama.

amazing. I don't think Rocky Tennessee was even a thing in '68
this is after Forrest Gump ran back the kickoff. that was 65
I started watching this thinking "those Tennessee unis look a lot like Ole Miss."
I guess we know how I flunked out of detective school....
The video at the beginning was the Bama/Ole Miss game two weeks earlier in Jackson, MS. Ole Miss won that game 10-8
@@JNMT3 Thank you.
outstanding. just wanted to add at the time of this game... alabama was unranked and tennessee was ranked #8.

Can you blame them? I mean, no one likes UT.
@@oaktreet4335 Typical reaction from a Gump fan.
Forrest Gump kickoff return?
