A few things to remember about the live performance:
All three guys were just shy of being 60 years old.
This performance was at the END OF A THREE HOUR SET.
The reggae intro was an acknowledgement of their appreciation for reggae and (IMHO) a tasty way to express their talent and versatility.
You did exceptionally well by playing both back to back to see the differences and how the song has remained the same after 40+ years.
Great job! See you again soon.

Great reaction! The original album version will ALWAYS be spectacular - and kudos to original drummer John Rutsey (RIP) - he was more than just 'capable', that debut album was full of tasty licks & grooves from him. Was he Neil (also RIP)? No, but he certainly wasn't a weak link. However, Rush would've never progressed with him. They needed The Professor to complete the trio!
I think they started doing the 'reggae' opening back in 1980. Got to figure, playing that song, every night, it was a great way to change it up! Neil was getting into ska/reggae beats at the time (listen to Vital Signs!)
Just think of it...that live version, each member is in their early 60's - absolutely KILLING it!! Love that little snippet of Cygnus X-1 at the end!
