Great. The only simple explanation I've found so far. Thanks.

thank you for this short and digestible synthesis of this model; I'd now like to learn more about it! what resonates most for me is that the heroine's journey is more internal than external. the archetypical conflict I'd like to see incorporated in this model is the separation from the mother, the conflict with the mother, and the resolution with the mother, as this is central to the journeys of most women I know.

Interesting start, but why is the woman a bad driver and (almost) kills the hero? ^^*

If you really think that Rey from Force Awakens & Chihiro from Spirited Away have much in common then you clearly haven't been paying attention to those characters or their movies or just storytelling in general

      She said Fin, not Rey.

@@ConVinko11 But I think Rey fits far more with the Heroine's Journey if you look at all three films than Finn does in TFA. I'm actually not sure how Finn's arc is a Heroine's Journey...

Step one is to reject the feminine self? Why?

@jay unlike men in the office. They open their powerpoint and they do not play 'career'. They are serious guys in suits on the verge to change the world.

@jmiogo because you have to watch til the end before asking anything.

Because to some people the "feminine self" is viewed as weak so must be destroyed in order to turn them into "strong female characters" which to me sounds like male characters with a skirt.

Not all women reject the feminine. But many do because society values masculinity more. I do think it would be interesting to see an alternative heroine's journey of a girl who doesn't reject the feminine. But I think the point of these journeys is reconciliation between the two. Someone that doesn't reject the feminine won't have that same internal conflict.

Maybe she is rejecting the femininity that she feels has been pushed on her by society, and the journey is her embracing her individual form of femininity, whatever that form may be for her
