I can't believe the Alaska person said Balto -- Balto was a real dog and those events really did happen. Although Togo actually ran the longest and most dangerous part of the journey but since Balto was in the lead when they arrived in Nome he was the one who got famous.

ETA - I wrote this before getting to Florida. That’s an honorable mention but Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were actually created in California. Heck so was Disneyland for that matter, long before Walt Disney World was built.

Lilo and Stitch are definitely based in Hawaii. But Moana is a general polynesian/Oceania representation. They use a lot of Hawaiian language on the movie though, so i can understand why it would be confused for Hawaii. The giveaway however is that Moana has names that utilize ther letter T. There's no T in Hawaiian language. Not unless we're talking about old Niihau-an dialects or something lolz.

As a Californian, I would pick Zorro. Written as a character in the time period of Spanish California before it was a state, but it still counts. He was the OG masked avenger with a double identity, and the main influence for Batman.
There were other choices for the Wisconsin one. We had hit shows that featured Wisconsin. Laverne and Shirley and Happy Days. Milwaukee even has a bronze statue of the Fonz in downtown Milwaukee. That 70's Show was another one.

I wouldn't say Balto is not a hero. Does he have credit/popularity that Togo deserves? Yes. But every mile counts towards the finish. Every dog on that team and the one who guided the sled are heroes.
