Literally this happened to me back in 2019, I couldn't decide what I want in life, but then boom after a year I took Philosophy as my major. Pretty tough, but worth it. Proud of you for taking time. It's okay, it's normal. 💗🥺

Make sure if you’re opting for a gap year, you should have something planned out in the back of your head to utilize it. It can be preparation to apply in the forces, learn a new skill, work on yourself mentally or even take a job. I took a job in a call center for example during my gap year, and i saved enough money to pay my university semester fees for the first two semesters and also got myself a new phone. Just don’t waste it as an excuse for your laziness. A year makes a lot of difference for people of our age.

Thanks, Momina for sharing this video.
Taking a gap year is super essential before starting university. A lot of people don't understand the idea behind a gap year. I got into university instantly and ended up getting into a program that didn't offer anything exciting and it happens a lot. Don't hesitate to take a break, travel, read books, opt for a craft, or anything you are into and then decide what you are up to.

Sorry to say but gap years are for privileged people.
I can't take a break because I have to complete my graduation at any cost and have to earn to become fully independent and support my family (btw I'm right now-partially independent).
There are a few things expected out of me and I have to push myself to fulfill those needs no matter what happens.
I can understand the concept of gap year but you can't measure everyone's scenarios with the same scope.

Wanted to jump in real quick, not a fan of Momina but as someone who took a gap year and comes from a lower-income background.
My gap year followed as a consequence of my financial inability to pay for university.
To assume that gap years are solely for the elite is a very ignorant and insensitive notion.
A lot of us kids who take gap years work during the entire year to save up money for our intended university.
Gap year/years are not solely for the privileged! They are a great way for kids like me to save up money to actually go to our desired university.

I can totally relate with you. It's important to normalize gap years. Yk I also took up a gap year. Back then I was going through a bad phase and couldn't really decide on what to do. Gap year can be a blessing for you. You just need the mindset. Gap year can bring a change in your life. It makes you realize a lot of things, discover new things about yourself you never knew. For eg. passion for a certain field. I know it's a bit tough in the beginning, seeing your friends moving forward while you're seemingly idle and it takes a lot of time and effort into putting off those negative feelings and telling yourself it's all fine. Trust me it all gets normal after a while. You're out of the race for a while, it's a break. It's only a matter of time before you're back in it. You don't even notice how time flies. One year doesn't even make a difference. You don't get these things right away as you're still fighting yourself inside trying to accept your own decision. But afterwards, you understand that it was for the best and it totally worked out. A good way to spend it is keeping yourself busy and doing something productive. I did it, I went through all of those emotions and thoughts and then I finally made peace with myself. Gap year gives you mental peace. The key is to let go and just enjoy the moment. Everything will be fine!

I am 19 years old and I took a gap year in 2021 because I confused about what should I study acca or bba because I was good in accounting and finance (plus, mius, debit, credit) but I didn't want to give my whole life into it because I already have a deep interest in digital marketing and e commerce. Then I said let's take a year to know what I love to do but after that I didn't do any productive work like volunteering, learn skills, self actualization, discovering my talent because of my procrastination and excessive use of social media. I wanted to overcome these bad habits but I didn't. And I also waste my father's money 50k pkr to buy premium training on e commerce and digital marketing from an expert, but I got scammed. Then I applied for iba and Szabist. I practiced a lot for their test but I am very weak in mathematics (linear, slope) that's why I didn't get admission in iba and I got admission in szabist, passed interview test but I didn't have enough money to afford it, applied for scholarship but they said it is not available for first semester students now I am studying bba from small university which is in Karachi (not ranking in even top 20). Now I am wasting almost 25% of day thinking I hate my life, I hate myself because I am not intelligent, I am stupid, I took bad decisions, I am not good enough in everything, I am year behind from my friends and I should die.

@@daniyalamin2452 Hey man, just relax. I know you're feeling down because you think things aren't working out but they will, trust me. Take a deep breathe. You will make it, just hang in there. It's not the university, it's you who'll get you the job. You just have to keep going. Most people aren't intelligent, but what gets them through is persistency. Finish your degree first. Do some online courses of your choice. Coursera offers you courses which become free on financial aid. Secondly, network and try to find an internship in the summers. Keep yourself busy. Don't worry, there's a whole life ahead of you. You'll have lots of opportunities. You can even get a graduate degree from your favorite university. Future awaits you. Never give up. Plus, whenever you feel low, just watch a film or something on UA-cam. Keep your mind occupied. You're good.

You are just right with the stigma of taking gap year. Even Pakistan has also a stigma of changing your uni major, people say "ohh you've wasted your time and money", "prha nhi jaarha tha?" etc. I changed my major one time, I was started as a Media (Advertising) major but then I realized after spending whole semester that this thing isn't for me, spending whole day on photoshop is not my thing and I'm more on the Leadership and Management side. I changed my major to BBA after spending whole semester, giving exams in media. I sometimes think I've wasted my 6 months but it's totally ok I mean if you realize that the major you are in is not for you then just change it otherwise you will regret it after graduation. People think humny jis major me admission lia ha bss usi ke sath graduate hona ha which is wrong I mean if you are not okay with it just change it.
I still hear people saying that "you've wasted your time", "media acha khasa to tha change q krlia?". Mere lye media me photography prhna was like a hell thing studying Economics is way better than studying Photography for me. But I'm great full that I changed my major now I'm happy and enjoying business administration and also willing to specialize in Banking and Finance.

1:10 you can't just normalize gap years,
Because then the person having potential not to take gap years would eventually fall back too.
    The quicker it is
The better it will be in the future obviously.

One should not take gap year. You will be far behind every one and then you will regret it. Time just flies by. She is a UA-camr ,have something going for her .Us normal people just wastes time in a gap year.😬

@@sharqa626 one of the major things we face in India and Pakistan is parents's retirement. We always have this constant pressure to settle asap so that our parents are relieved. I am an Indian and i have seen this scenario in many cases. Gap year might be good for some people but for majority it isnt feasible.
