the big news is here! (sorry for the last video's cliffhanger haha). and we've hit ONE MiLLION SUBS WHOAAA!!! we shall celebrate our growing community in a future vid hehe. i am a little bit nervous writing this description for a multitude of reasons. i am scared for the future yet excited; a gap year/taking a break from school has been in the works since my freshman year, primarily so i could save money. i am weary of the expectations i feel have been given to me; there's pressure to do something extraordinary with my time off, but i also want to prioritize my rest and well-being. fortunately, being here on youtube has given me the creative freedom to pursue many of my childhood dreams! i am ready to take y'all along this journey, from the apartment series to diving back into my artistic roots. thank you for giving me the privilege of taking this huge leap! it's because of y'all that i have the confidence to follow my dreams. let's do it together. Same here. Straight up went to working full time in the government after graduating, then enrolled to grad school. It was exhausting and.... expensive. I didn't get to explore and be genuinely happy of what I am doing. Now that I have took a break in grad school, I felt so comforted and relieved. I was able to travel and meet new people. Taking a break this year was the best decision I have made! I became a happy adult! You can do it Linh! and you can too, Ena! My master thesis awaits on me next year but I gotta enjoy this year! haha
She is actually so brave for doing this! Most people(including myself) don't have the nerve to say "my mental health comes first"! You are amazing girl!

Ah, the eldest child burden. Somehow, that burden gets heavier when that child is a girl. Being an eldest child of an Asian family myself, I feel you Linh. Self care is very very important to avoid resenting your family and the people you're taking care of. Enjoy your gap year!

@@crftieph Nothing at all. People should do what is best for them regarding stepping away from college or continuing to take courses. However, there is an unfortunate and untrue stigma (especially in elite academia) that choosing to leave college or "dropping out" is a bad thing or a failure.
Hey Linh, it's very awesome you are taking a break and able to graduate on time! However, I wouldn't say “dropping out of college/college dropout” because that would mean you are permanently leaving the institution and that's a completely separate path then what youre doing. Just think it's a bit misleading to say is all

I think she is aware of this, she just decided to stick to the confusion anyways. “Dropping out” was only mentioned at the beginning of the video, after the advert, she mainly spoke of “taking a gap year” I am surprised that lihn is now chasing clout on UA-cam with deliberately misleading title.

Linh, as another Vietnamese eldest daughter with a younger brother with a disability, I have to say I relate to all of your feelings here. Took a gap semester and honestly, the gap is so worth it. I wish I could’ve done a full year but even with just that little semester I know I wouldn’t have been able to finish college without it. Here’s to you and future ventures!

so im four years behind you in school- so you're going into junior year of college, im going into junior year of high school. ive followed along your journey ever since my 8th grade year, and ive seen so many changes in our lives that have paralleled one another. my biggest fear was that i would never be able to take care of the ones i love doing what im passionate about- music. but you have inspired me so deeply, pursuing art and making your own business. as an 8th grader, all i cared about was how cool your clothes were and all of your cool prints you had on your wall. now, i see you as an inspiration to hopefully be able to follow in your footsteps and be able to make it on my own.

I can safely say that taking a gap year was the BEST thing I could ever do for my mental health, my wallet and my future! Not only do i feel 10x better about returning but I feel so well nourished, grown and excited to return. I feel like I avoided the crazy amount of burnout I would've caused if I just kept trekking through without taking a break to figure out who I am and what I really want. So excited for you!!

CRAZY SCREAMING AND INTENSE EMOTIONS
I graduated from college a year ago (your vids kept me so positive for senior year during a pandemic omg 😭) and have been working for abt 7 months and I can say you ABSOLUTELY need to take this time for yourself now. I was super hyper competitive and driven in college like you, but it has been reallly tough to make that transition to the professional world. At this age, we need time to focus on what our core values and beliefs and self is/are in order to navigate the world. I really launched into the working world without that, and it’s been a rough go. But now I’m working to find that core self now, and I hope you will too!! We will have an incredible summer ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

I don't think taking a gap year = dropping out, I think thats reserved for not deciding to pursue it further for the forseeable future. Like when you take a gap year, you're still registered as a student even if you're not enrolled.

As a person who's well into her late 20s and still problematic af, I actually find it very insane how life's so difficult but you still manage to work around it. it's seriously impossible to not be so amazed by you. I hope you have a wonderful gap year and more success in the near future

As a first-gen student from an immigrant family, I’ve always been afraid to stray away from the oftentimes frightening narrative that is imposed on us from childhood, but at the end of the day what will always matter is that you’re fighting for your dreams. That sense of selfishness that proceeds exchanging our parents sacrifices for our happiness may always exist, but we must also realize that in many ways our parents stalled or completely disregarded their own dreams so that one day we could pursue ours, unconditionally and wholeheartedly.
I love how you worded experiencing life in a different way. We as a society always speak of romanizing your life traveling loving being spontaneous doing what ever you want. When there are plenty of people who can’t do that and don’t have that option. You can enjoy your life in all it forms that it comes in wether ideal or totally in unexpected.
Linh, it has been an honor to grow and mature with you and I'm so happy and proud of you for how far you've come! Coming from a home as well where I also signed that contract to take care of my brother when my parents are no longer able to, I can understand the bittersweetness of it. I understand, I took a gap year when I was transferring to a different college in the fall and then another one when I was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune diease and I kept going in and out of the hospital, it helps a lot with your mindset and knowing what you wanna do and save money. I'm so happy you're taking the time for yourself, I feel we all need that once in our lives.
