I will never shoot in 8-bit again! 🦈
Would love to see a good fin with a white-balance color grid embedded? Or a diveskin! 🤩

You've learned that the hard way, didn't you Rebecca? 😉
That's a really good idea with the fins, not so sure about the diveskin though. 😂
Know any fin manufacturer we could present this idea to?! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi. Matthias, thank you for another tip video
Although is not the subject of this video I would like to read your opinion. Recently I bought a Sony A6700 and a housing for underwater video. When I try to perform the custom white balance it goes to 9900K and a red tint. Do you know what’s happening? Out of the water that feature of the camera works flawlessly. Should the white balance be done with a red filter?
    Thank you
    Best regards

If you're using a red filter when shooting you should have it in place when doing the custom white balance.
If you do the white balance without the red filter and then but it back in font of the lens, you will get a ret tint as there is suddenly more red available as there was when doing the white balance.
      Hope this helps?

Excellent video. I use a GoPro with 2 high lumen video lights. Correct me if wrong but the Keldon color card will benefit the colors in the frame that aren’t being hit with my lights? And fine tune the colors that are up close?

Thanks for your feedback mate. When you use lights, the whole thing gets a little more complicated as you're now working with a mixed light situation. Everything your light reaches has a different color temperature than the areas not affected by your lights. Adjusting your colors for both areas is quite a bit more complicated and time consuming. The easiest approach would be to get an ambient (blue) filter for your lights. This would bring the color temperature of your lights somewhere close to the ambient color temperature and would make a more uniforme color correction easier.
If that's not an option, I would make sure that you place the color checker in a way that your lights are reaching it and then go through the procedure as mentioned in the video. Yes your background colors will not be perfectly corrected, but in the end it's your main object (the one you have lit up using your lights) that should be correctly color corrected.
I hope this helps and is not too confusing? 🙈

Nice. It's true that color grading takes time but can make a lot of difference in terms of image quality. May I add that it is also strongly recommended to have your monitor calibrated. Most monitors have different hue and photographers and videographers can make color profile to compensate for this. You can do it with a calibration probe (like Datacolor/Xrite products, they also sell color checker like the one from Keldan). If what you see on your screen is already off because of the hue of the monitor itself, it can be misleading when you want to add the proper amount of corrections.

Thank you for your comment mate and the addition. You're absolutely right. A calibrated monitor is important to make sure you get as close to perfect as possible. What your audience will see on their (probably not calibrated) monitors is a different story, but at least you get the best result you possibly can. 👍🏻
