    I love the red and black tray and how the colors reacted on the top! I like the dragon stencil, but it has pieces missing where they shouldn't be, which contributed to an unclear pattern.
    I've never done any resin at all. This is what I know from using this stuff on paper: 1) the hardest thing seems to be finding a temporary adhesive for the stencil that doesn't leave a residue on the substrate. 2) As you found with the second piece, to get detailed coverage, leave the stencil in place and apply the glue/size. When the adhesive is ready, apply the gilding or glitter over the stencil. Burnish extensively and thoroughly, and brush off all possible extra BEFORE removing the stencil. 3) remove stencil. If the temporary stencil adhesive comes off cleanly, you can try more burnishing of the pattern. If there is any residue, don't even try more brushing just put on the protective layer, the residue will just pick up whatever is loose on the piece or the brush. Overall, I've also found that a moderately stiff brush works better than a soft floppy brush. It can both push the gilding into the corners of a stencil better and can brush any extra off the piece more cleanly. Hope this ramble of info helps with resin substrate.

    Hi Tracey, I have not used guiding flakes or glitter to stencil onto resin. I have used acrylic paint with stencils/silkscreens before. It was difficult and took more than one attempt to get it right due to smudging issues. I love how the dragon came out, very cool!! Also, Thank you for sharing Sonu music. This is going to be fun a collaboration with D&A
    If you use a soft brush static should hold the gold leaf. Then dab with the brush to set it in then burnish with that soft brush. That way you can brush to remove the gold. That's how we did it 30 years ago when I worked in a craft store.
    Yes please again. 😊

    Fantastic experiments Tracey, we totally agree - the dragon had a very antique effect! The bit of amine blush was probably from the moisture in the glue affecting the resin surface, looked fab with the top coat. The coaster looked really cool, loved it. We are off to watch Donna's now 💕 x

    Thank you for this,you are right there are no videos for this. Las time I tried to stencil I drew the pattern on the resin piece then used a dotting tool ,mica powder mixed with varnish and for some parts chameleon flakes also mixed with varnish ,it was a long and tedious project but it was beautiful in the end with a few mistakes lol . I havent revisited ,that technique for quite some time i will revisit though,along with some of these techniques you've shown today . This was very inspiring, I love the dragon and the coaster . Ive come to find out that when we make things and they dont come out like the vision we at least me thinks its a fail and someone will come along and think its wonderful. ☺️ . I love the" flaws " in both pieces it makes it so interesting. Inspiational video, thank you . I will be sure to check out the collaboration 😀

    I've done this on resin trays and tumblers, if your resin base is fully cured and wiped down removing the stencil before gold leafing etc works wonderfully, but powders like micas/chameleons it's better to leave stencil on -for some reason it still gets stuck to unstenciled resin and it's a pain in the butt to clean it up with a q-tip and alcohol

    I am not a person who resins. I make cards. With foiling, I hate the static electricity that goes with it. We use talc powder, but you probably can't use that on resin. But I use a dryer sheet to go over my paper and stencil to cut down on the fly-a-ways. I have used a new one and a used one - prefer a used one. May be if you lightly touch it to the resin before adding the stencil, it might help. And cut down on the static. Make sure you burnish the gold leaf sheets with a soft brush or it can mark with a stiff bristle brush. The flecks need to be burnished into the glue with a firmer brush or they can lift after removing the stencil. They also make a gold leaf sheets in different colors that is put on to a plastic sheet. With those you only need to add the glue, let the glue go tacky, and then put the sheet down, burnish with your fingers, and then lift the sheet up. With those sheets the color side is up, and the underside that has silver color goes down, with contact to the glue. But the glued side down might not be transparent. I do not know, I have only done paper. Maybe this will help. With the last one there is not all of that loose leaf static and maybe this helps to keep the fly-a-ways off the rest of the resined areas, less clean up afterward.. And more fun to play

    • @miniscenesgb
      @miniscenesgb  4 місяці тому

    I think the dragon looked pretty good, especially the part you used the powder pigment on. It was a really tricky stencil to pick, and would have been a challenge with any medium.
    I wonder if you could put the stencil on when the resin is still a little sticky, and instead of using the gilding glue, put the metal sheet directly on the resin? 🤔

    I'm pretty sure Wendy over at Toonpish did something with mica powder and a stencil a couple months ago. I just went and looked at her page (it was driving me nuts because I couldn't remember when it was) and the two that she did were about 8 months ago.
    For the glue you mentioned. You can use any sort of oil. I'd recommend using mineral oil, because it's inert. A light oil like that will get rid of most adhesives unless you're working with something like contact glue or CA glue.
    FYI I'd recommend not rubbing the size on when you're using a stencil. Because you'll end up pushing the fluid under the stencil of which I think why you got some of that smudging. Along with the pattern being very intricate and they're not being a lot of space between the holes.

    • @miniscenesgb

    I'm not sure if it still exists but i remember in kindergarten we had this childrens glue that you could also wash with water but it's mainly the consistency that could be interesting as it was a very stiff paste and was made from gluten. I dont think that is a blush otherwise it would have wiped off when you applied pressure to remove the mica and glitter. Amine blushes are water soluble and only on the surface so they wipe off with a bit of pressure and wet wipe or damp cloth. It looks more like unmixed resin drawing to the middle for heat to try and cure it goes dull.

    I'm wondering if the stuff you used to adhere the stencil down was part of the problem with the clarity of the fine details and getting the foil, glitter, etc where it shouldn't have been. Perhaps tacking down the outside edges with painter's tape instead would work? Or cutting stencils out of vinyl? It's certainly worth fine tuning.
