    Thanks for the video! I was actually torn between these two lenses, and I know that the Art version of Sigma lenses are legendary among the many photography communities online. I had to make what I originally thought was a tough call and buy the 30mm 1.4 DC DN, and I honestly couldn't be happier with my decision. It's a beautiful lens, and far, far more affordable than the art variant. The bokeh on the art variant is very nice, but I can't justify spending over three times the amount I paid for the 30mm on a slightly different flavor of bokeh (among other small things).

    This helps a bunch! Im in a hunch between getting Sigma contemporary (30mm) or the ART (35mm) + a speed booster set up for my gh5. Still a tough choice if not worried about pricing and more about performance cause the results are so similar! But when looking at the pricing it's a no brainer to go with the contemporary glass if trying to save money.

    wouldn't you say the sigma 30mm , because it's wider, can get closer to the subject and hence gives shallower depth of filed?

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 років тому

      You definitely can! It all depends on how you use each lens though. I can get macro shots with any lens by whacking it

    Great video, this will help a lot for many other people. But in my eyes the difference isn't groundbreaking. Of course the Art series is a little bit better, because that's also what you pay for. But i'm fine with both my 30mm and 56mm contemporary series lenses for my Sony A6000.

    using the sigma 30mm on Crop, you will get 45mm eqv at 24mp, using the 35mm on Full Frame (sony a7-a7iii) you will get 35mm at 24mp. Using the 30mm on full frame in crop mode you will get 45mm at only 10mp. But the 35mm on the crop body you will get 52.5mm at 24mp. Hence the reason im getting the 35 to get full Mp usage on full frame. I already have the 30mm and it is still a monster on crop or full frame.

    I agree with Weylles. Cost versus benefit is important. Any shortcomings of a lens has a work around. Learn how to use the old techniques to eliminate what we used to call "Camera shake" (Bracing straps, elbow on lamppost, putting tool down etc}. That will reduce need for OSS, IBIS etc. which make cameras and lenses bulkier, heavier, more fragile and a lot more expensive.

    Sigma lenses give the Fujifilm X-T3 like profiles on certain Sony e mount cameras! I posted some samples on the subject on my UA-cam channel using the SIgma 16mm DC DC f 1.4 Lens on the Sony a6500.

    would it be because the 5mm difference makes the 35mm art more bokehlicious? just wondering, coz the closer you get, it might have a much smoother bokeh? Im really torn in choosing between the 2 lenses :( cant decide

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому +3

      No, not really. The difference is the lens quality. The ART lenses will always be better!

    • @mproductionsmusik
      @mproductionsmusik 6 років тому +2

      Yeah exactly the 5mm difference does increase a little the bokeh and the illusion of being more on focus because it closer to the subjet. Syaing that the art could still be altitle sharper on other test but i dont think its that of a huge difference for the price difference!

    Sad not to exist the sigma 30mm F / 1.4 ART e-mount :(
    Only, A-mount, Canon and Nikon for what I researched ....
    The 30mm art seems to be a good lens, lighter and more discreet :)
    Good reviews, quality of their reviews are very good!
    I'm currently filming with a Nikon D3300, but I'm almost buying an A6500, but I just do not have $ for good starting lenses ...
    I think I'll buy a manual adapter, and wear Nikkor and Tokina lenses.
    Again, good comparative video!

      Is there a possibility for you to do some reviews comparing Speed Booster (Metabones VS parallel brand viltrox, etc ...) on the sony a6300 or a6500? Just a suggestion ... of course ... totally manual use pq af never works well with these adapters, some do not even have this option, doubt is even with regard to quality and flares ...

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому +1

      If I get my hands on those adapters, I definitely will! Although, based on my friends' experience, the Metabones Speedbooster is the solid choice! Plus, they just added a recent firmware update to to enhance the autofocus. Hope this helps!

    • @georgskt
      @georgskt 7 років тому

      cool :)
      But it would be interesting to make a comparison to a first line adapter like Metabones, against the low cost, because the difference in cost is striking, especially here in Brazil, are high import taxes, where ends every 50, 100 dollars make a huge Difference in the end.
      Maybe even have reviews out there, but not with quality of comparison that you do in similar and very explanatory situations.
      Anyway, good work bro :)

      No, this specific lens is designed for APS-C e-mount Sony bodies.

    great video as always. was looking at purchasing the 30mm 1.4 because of your review but I would be able to get my hands on the sony 24mm 1.8. There is an obvious price difference but do you know how is the 24mm for video?

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому +1

      +416 Dentistry I haven't used the 24mm yet, so I can't really say. I will say this though, I specifically chose the Sigma 30mm because I love the look of Sigma lenses, and the 30mm turns into 48mm (full-frame) which is close to the look of a 50mm lens. I love the look of that focal length because it's as close to what the human eye sees. Always go for a lens that has a distinct look that matches your visual style. Hope that helps!

    Hi! Sigma 30mm Contemporary has eye autofocus as Sony lenses with a6X00? First I thought about get sigma 16mm, then 56mm, but now I think i'll get 30mm because I think that can be a good balance as a first prime lenses after the 18-105, what do u think?? ¡Thaaanks!

    Hi. Great videos. Thanks so much for sharing! Sorry if this is a daft question. There is also a Sigma 30mm f1.4 native emount lens (i.e. use without mc11). Do you know if that's the same lens you're testing here, and if so what difference the mc11 makes to the AF performance? Or have I got very confused!

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому

      You're right, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN I used here is the native e-mount lens. The "DN" means it's a native Sony lens. The AF performance with the MC-11 adapters is good, but is slightly slower than the native Sony version. Hope this helps!

    Hey, i'm watching this video in a lecture, so sadly I didn't hear what you said, was just looking at the sample shots. I read through some comments and saw you replied to a lot of them. You said that you love the look of the Sigmas, so do I. I'm looking to get a Nikon D5500/5600 together with 2 lenses for travel and sport (especially ski) pictures & video.
    I'm quite certain I'll get a 30mm for city photography and things where i move around a lot.
    However I'm struggling to figure out what kind of lens I'd need for sport & landscape photography. What kind of focal length is reasonable here? is 140mm enough? Do I go 200/300mm?
    Despite not hearing what you where saying the video looked really nice and well shot.
    I'll leave a sub :)

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому

      Haha, I love that you're watching UA-cam videos during a lecture! For sports, the longer the focal length the better! I'd go with the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | S. You'll get sharp photos and a really far reach. For landscapes, I'd wait for the new Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | A. It's incredibly wide without distortion, and of course is an Art lens. At the same time, if you're looking a lens that will do both, just get Sigma 24-105. It's the perfect all-around lens to cover sport and photography. You can always go the Sigma website and go through their lens library. They have a good system of categorizing which lens you'll need based on what you want to shoot. Hope this helps!

    • @AllroundSwizzy
      @AllroundSwizzy 7 років тому +1

      Haha, now that I'm home I'll watch it with sound.
      Awesome thanks for the quick reply. Sadly the 120-300 is sliiiightly out of my price range.
      Whats the advantage of the 24-105 over a 18-200?
      Is there another difference to them else than the 'F'?
      I've heard that the pictures kind of bend when shooting wide with those lenses.
      Considering shooting on snow is usually super bright anyways does the 'F' still matter as much?
      I spent so much time looking at what camera to get that I still have no idea what all those lenses are.

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 років тому

      The only advantage the 24-105mm has is that it's focal range is a good all-around range for most shoots. Plus, it's a sharp lens! I haven't seen much distortion at widest focal length, but you can always adjust that in Lightroom. And when you're shooting in snow, you'll probably want to shoot at F/11 anyway since it's so bright! Look up "Chase Jarvis Ski Photography" on UA-cam. He gives a pretty tutorial on how to shoot sports photography in the snow. Hope this helps dude!
