It is nonsense to compare background blur and bokeh between f1.8 and f1.4 lens. And it is also stupid way to compare color fringing while the first one is on-focus and another one seems to be out-focus.
For me sharpness is king, everything else is character
This guy deserves way more views.
After owning the sony 35mm f1.8 for awhile now I'm definitely going to be selling the lens it's just not very sharp, yes it has a small form factor which is great but I've found the image quality to be actually very poor my sigma 35mm f1.4 is much much better even though the size and weight is not
i feel like its worth a mention that at f1.4, a running tracking shot is a little unfair. your depth of field is about 30% smaller, which is juuuust enough to keep things out of focus.
I’ve never had a client judge me “100% based off of my gear” in 32 years of photography. Odd
The sony looks like a good choice but then that chromatic aberration kills me. I'll probably still switch from the sigma tho. As for my bokeh needs are met with other lenses
As a pro photographer if you care more about how your lenses look than you are probably in it for the wrong reasons.
Don't know what gear you are using to record, but this is the sharpest content I have seen on UA-cam thus far. Keep up the good work!
The Sigma has great optical quality as shown in the video (just not so much for video recording). BUT it's just too heavy for street photography and you draw too much attention. The Sony 35 is just disappointing in terms of optical performance given the chromatic aberration
dude I really enjoy your videos! love the quality so much! thanks for this, I'm looking into these 2 lenses and you've helped a lot! :)
Nice job comparing the two. I went with the Sony, size and weight have become a bigger factor for me. I find if it's too big and heavy, I'll leave gear at home and that just a waste on soo many levels. I also find people are more relaxed around smaller gear. So I've been scaling down my lens.
I'm definitely getting the sigma. Better out of focus areas and a wider aperture for those juicy night shots in NYC.
I went with Sigma at Xmas time because of the sale price and the firmware update that helps out the video AF and it's been great, but I still want the Sony for gimble work.
Great work , with all details , keep up the good work..

Thanks - I was deciding between Sony & Sigma mainly because of Sigma weight. Looks like I might just have to tough out the weight of lens.
Thanks for this video!!! I am between those 2 as well, 90% for video... do you see a major diffrence in bokeh in video? I have the a7siii as well....
I am getting this focal length primarily for video. The smaller and lighter lens with better auto focus will definitely win for a gimbal set up.
Omg I woke up asking if there’s a comparison btw the two. Thanks so much! I think I’m going with the Sony because I mainly do videos
