    See the story got better and better until she left. Man, after finding an awesome buddy and mentor like that I'd just tell him to keep the ring, because he earned it. Someone who can help me be more than I would be alone is clearly my purpose, not a test to beat and pass.

    I think I get it, in the beginning the shaman guy threw three rings into the water and they flew off somewhere in the direction of the island, there were also three kids. I think the animal the girl found was a rock, but one of the rings found it and turned it into an animal. I believe that must be part of the ritual, each kid gets a ring, and therefore a protector that they must befriend. Once they reach a level of trust, kinship, and maturity, their protector will give them back the ring, ending the ritual and sending the kid home but ultimately turning the animal back. I believe each kid has to learn to love and care enough so that another being can love and care for the kid in return and they therefore learn how to be kind and caring. they reached a certain level of love so that the animal was able to be willing to give up its existence to bring the girl back to her home to share her love. I believe the ritual teaches them a sense of love and loyalty and allows her to become who she is.

    I'm guessing she was on that island for 6-8 years, based on her physical development. Seeing as how there are only 3 children sent out, and they're gone that long, I believe this is a special ritual for future tribal leaders.
    Pacific Islanders are known to have thick bones in the arms and legs, and beefy forearms and lower legs. Her build is typical caricature. They're not quite that exaggerated irl, but you can see the same design in "Moana" and "Lilo and Stitch".

    I think I get it. The kids each go to island as ritual to find oneself. to prevent outside influence each has decide on how they will chose to live when they become an adult. The girl tried to take his fish vs catching her own. But he took fish back so she could learn to catch her own. The other 2 kids might be going through the same thing but different situations. When mature they are sent back.

    I feel that it was her growing up, she has to figure out who she was. the creature was her guide or her child sprite that had to become mold because it couldn't go with her but it was also a big part of her. the other rocks were also stages of her life, but our childhood is the strongest. just like all children we are eager to grow up (eager for the boat to arrive) and we tend to forget what that means, but she knows that she can always return to that island and it will still be there. Its her journey from children hood into adult hood at least thats what i think

    This was an example of how great storytelling can come from anyone & anywhere. It's a simple tale yet it's meaningful, has a lot of heart & leaves people wanting more, which is exactly why it's a wonderful sort film.
    I personally would love to know everything about this. The inspiration for the story, why they chose this art medium, who did the character designs, etc.
    This is definitely one of my favorites.

    First, a lot of hunter-gather cultures would send young adults into the wild to survive on their own for a time. Usually it was a right of passage around age 9-13, and usually a few weeks to a month, sometimes one year. The only one I can think of more extreme than the one shown here is the Spartans.
    Second, I am guessing the yeti is an imaginary friend, possibly a spirit guide. The idea and form was taken from an unusual rock formation on the beach. When the girl grew up and was ready to return to the village as an adult, she left her imaginary friend behind her.

    She must learn how to survive in the wild on her own. The creature guides her to survival. The creature keeps the..um...ring/bracelet until she is ready and/or completed her task on the island. When the time comes, she returns to the mainland.
    Creature, however, knows that it is time to let her go back and he also knows that he will turn to stone for his duty is over. If you have noticed the other rock in the water around him, those rocks were also creatures that helped previous villagers.
    One thing that is the ONLY question left: what the hell was under those rocks in the beginning?????

    I think that this could be a family tradition and the rings are passed down through generations and every time the creatures come alive again to show them how to live and the reason it turns into a rock is that it uses a child's liveliness as it's own energy and when it feels it ebbing away, he grants the child passage back home.

    So many unanswered questions...why did they send her to the island in the first place? What's the story with that tribe who raised her? How did they know when to return? Why did he turn into a stone pillar at the end?

    • @heatherwanderer777
      @heatherwanderer777 9 років тому +2

      agreed! Did the creature give up his life for her to go back to her family? They send her away so she can learn all the things they should have taught her? what's the point? how would their tribe even survive if they sent off all their 5 year olds? Was she suppose to just go to the island and come right back but she couldn't cause he kept the bracelet? so many questions

    • @TheDeathToday
      @TheDeathToday 9 років тому +55

      They sent her to the island to accomplish the ritual, that's where she will learn everything to help her grow and be an adult. They know when to return because she finally won the race. The monster turned into stone because he accomplished his mission and now that she leaves he doesn't have a reason to live, or because he represents childhood that die when arrives adulthood, or she simply invented him to help her survive and he died when she becomes an adult, since they don't have imaginary friends.

    • @WobblesandBean
      @WobblesandBean 9 років тому +8

      TheDeathToday I dunno, I took it to be literal, since I can't think of any child who would think up an imaginary friend that hates them at first. I just feel bad I guess, his entire tribe really gets the short end of the stick: Raise someone else's kid then die when they come of age? Some lot in life...even so, I keep coming back to watch this again and again. There's just something about it.

    • @TheDeathToday
      @TheDeathToday 9 років тому +9

      Amelia Bee Yes, I get your point, it's a rather sad story.. But then, maybe is it just a monster that disappears when his duty is fulfilled? Maybe he exists only for the child that comes on the island, and wouldn't exist at all without the ritual? This video raises so many questions!

    So she survived because of the giant bunny guy? Isn't that cheating? Did the other kids die? Or could it be that there where also bunny guys in the other islands and the other kids decided to stay with them, unlike her who decided she wanted to go back even if it killed him? Hmm sad, i kinda liked him

    • @JonesCrimson

      I think the ritual is to come back with the bracelet alive; and if the children try to hunt the creature or go out on their own it ruins their chances. This way the society roots out it's criminals before it becomes an issue.

    • @daltonpierce8497
      @daltonpierce8497 8 років тому +17

      I feel like the creature was more like a guardian meant to teach how to survive in the world and kind of a test, when taught the child leaves and thus the creature's purpose is met. Knowing this he becomes a part of the island. And I don't believe the girl knew, but understood after seeing the stone. Wiping away her tears she then returned to live her life. But that is just what I think.

    • @jaypond4368
      @jaypond4368 8 років тому +7

      +Dafne Lopez From what I understand, it seems he is there to teach her how to survive in the wild for several years. When they are ready to return home, they give the bracelet back and his job is done.

      +Hellsboundedsoul Because disney doesn't sell real lessons or deep thoughts. They want flash, and marketability, and money. Not substance.

    • @Benjackalope
      @Benjackalope 8 років тому +1

      They may be missing out of a lot of money from not making real lessons, deep thoughts, or emotionally touching movies, I think that both genres of flash & substance are the things that I'd give my money for.
