- Mario Kart DS was originally going to be very different. Nintendo, at first, planned to make the game follow a style much more similar to 'Mario Kart: Double Dash!!' for the GameCube. From cut items to completely unused music, the developers took out a lot of interesting ideas but left them in the files. Nintendo also released an early prototype in US stores, and we can see loads of early content in its files. Professor E. Gadd from the Luigi's Mansion series was also cut from this game!

It's a bad transliteration from Japanese to English. The L and R are both transliterated to the same kana, so they're often mistaken for one another.

For me it was the L and R buttons

Man that bloody beta song is so nostalgic to me, I used to watch videos of the unused tracks of this game on UA-cam back when I was around 8 - 10 and that song always played. Brings back some good memories.

God I remember on last days of school when we would be allowed to bring toys in. A group of us would sit around and as long as someone had Mario Kart DS we'd be good to go playing for hours

I saw a different video that showed off several beta versions of tracks.
There was a track suspended in the air with several sections where you drive through pipes.
Another being a beta cheep cheep beach, but with an unrecognizable layout.
And finally, a beta Waluigi pinball, which began with a mountainous style before becoming “Luigi pachinko” and finally in the style that we see in game, but with a slightly different layout.
