Everyone knows it's coming, but when? Tesla has told us the Model Y refresh (codename project juniper) won't be coming until the end of 2024... but why the delay? and why wait? and are we in for a sneaky surprise sooner than we think?! 🤔

Thanks for the video! One other thing: the Model Y had a intermediary refresh in China in October. 6 months later, still no sign of this refresh in the US or in the EU...
Good point! I do wonder why they did that minor Y refresh knowing people would expect a full on M3 level upgrade 🤔 and as you say… where is it for the rest of the World? 🤷♂️
It really depends how many parts they have in stock for the previous model design. I think early next year is a reasonable time frame for the Y refresh.
Well done, I agree a new Y is in the works but care must be taken to avoid the Osborne Effect.

Interesting that the new colours (Midnight Cherry and quicksilver are quoting delivery for June July - does this coincide with a July launch for Juniper with these new colours whilst not actually announcing a launch is due? I’ve hedged my bets and placed an order for quicksilver 👍

I would trade off rear seat screen (who needs it these days? Look at Renault Scenic solution) for keeping stalks (btw, having stalks and physical buttons will affect EuroNCAP score in near future).
Clearly you do not have rug rats infesting your home… that rear screen is a sanity saver. 😀
Isnt it too low down for them to watch anyway? Ipad is far easier and better. Our kids will have their feet all over that screen placement. @@jimtoomey9522
This was exactly my thought when I saw the new M3 for the first time. They take away something that works perfectly for anyone and add something nobody had asked for. Dumb decision. Many testdrives will end with the conclusion that this won´t be the new car.
As long as they keep the stalls for signals, have separate control buttons for rear side mirrors and AC control, as long as they don't have panel gaps anymore, as long as they keep lumba support adjustments for both front seats, as long as there is a privacy cover for cargo area of the trunk area, as long as they add a small screen behind the steering wheel or HUD for the driver, as long as they don't use the stupid yoke steering wheel, the next Model Y should get my vote. Oh, one more thing, as long as they make sure this time we can achieve the officially stated range per full charge.
They need to wait until interest rates come down later this year before they can raise prices significantly. They are good this year as the competition doesn’t have NACS and most won’t have Tesla SC network usability either.
I think future mass market Tesla vehicles may launch very quietly with little fanfare, similar to the Model 3 refresh. Tesla may actually stockpile their next generation platform vehicles before launch to ensure immediate availability. They also don't want their competitors to copy any technologies revealed in one of their launch events.
The biggest improvement to the new model Y will be CATLs new M3P battery.
Will it have any effect on range & performance though?

hopefully. Would be a bit disappointing if it still had the same old 60kWh CATL or BYD LFP pack. I really hope for a next gen CATL Pack. My 2023 Y RWD get's 12 Months old at the end of may. My plan is to keep it till Juniper arrives.
I think Juniper could have brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire and/or suspension-by-wire.
Weight savings and maintenance too, liquid free car.
That may delay a bit and test before $25k car.

Great to have a versatile SUV, but after test driving both, I honestly enjoy the low ride and handling of the model 3..
My personal preference too, despite the Y would be much more practical as our only family car

The model Y could be waiting on the improved CATL battery and potentially 48v architecture.
I believe only new Tesla vehicles will benefit from 48v, too complex to switch existing cars/supply chains.
@@TeslaJigsaw That's reasonable assumption. A lot of change for perhaps small gain, perhaps. Maybe when supply chains ramp up for the next refresh in a few years time.
The extras could be 48v electrical system and steer by wire.
Would be great, but doubt they will go to such extremes. I believe Elon has said all new future vehicles will include those things, but too complex to change any current offerings. We shall see!

@@TeslaJigsaw We just got 3, but it is actually cheaper to buy a Cybertruck than powerwalls just for the batteries (80K for a Cybertruck at 123KW, and $11K * at least 9.1 or 10 powerwallls for $110K just for the powerwals)
Dont think it will come out soon because they still have lot of stock. I think still need to wait more than one year
I don’t think it’s safe to assume that the refreshed Model Y is going to be cheaper to produce. They will definitely find ways to cut costs but they will also be making improvements that will increase costs. The net result could be a vehicle that costs the same amount to produce but has a much more premium feel.
I see your point, but Tesla reduce manufacturing costs like nobody else. I’d be shocked if they don’t do the same for Model Y despite the improvements

I politely disagree. As it is Teslas indicate when travelling on advanced Autopilot, let alone the recent news that over 1 billion miles have been driven on FSD in the US (including auto indicators) This may take some people by surprise

Sandbaging? I hope they cancel it altogether. There is no need for a "new" model Y. Like there was no need for a new model 3, which got this bland, boring design now, change for the sake of change. Did not like new design of model 3 when I first saw it online, since then saw it a few times in real world and still don't like it at all. From what I can see, the only real improvement was to the suspension. Well, they could have easily done that to the existing car. IMPROVE existing model Y, don't make a new one, what is the point? What they could also do, is to introduce Grades. That way, a very practical, cheaper and a lot better Model Y can be made - no stupid glass roof, no overcomplicated AC system which does not even work really, etc

So you haven’t driven one I can hear? I am swapping my 2021 Model 3 for a new 2024 model. Have both of them this week and the difference is way bigger than I first anticipated! It’s a feeling a full class above the old one to in quality and feel and way sharper design
