I am also a diy lady. I didn't hear you mention it, but it is essential that the whole porch slope outward from your house to permit water to drain off, away from the house. Otherwise, there will be further damage under the door area.
Mrs Danie... Did you know that stabbing a pointed stick into the space where you pulled out weeds, then pouring boiling water directly from your kettle into the resulting holes, will cook the roots of the weed and it will never come back? It works on dandelions thistles, milkweed and many other weeds. My Gran used it to control the volunteers that seeded in from other people's yards and the road verges. It worked very well, and there were no chemicals in sight.

It missed on one point; obviously, based on someone getting rid of that brick, "one man's trash is another man's treasure ". So why did she dig up her pavers only to throw them all together, breaking them, and making them basically unusable for anyone else instead of posting them in Facebook or somewhere to see if anyone wanted them? Do I understand that sometimes it's easier to junk stuff? 100% But a lot of these "influencers" speak about using secondhand, and yet, if you don't walk the walk in regards to donating or reselling your "junk", where does that put you?
She did reuse many of her pavers in front of her garage and put some of the ones she took from the garden back in as a decorative path around the little tree. I saw that she threw one or two in the truck bed, but I think she did great. Plus, there may be a place she can donate the rocks and rubble to that will crush it and reuse/sell it for another use. I'm not familiar with what is acceptable or usable, so maybe I'm off the mark on that one. Regardless, she did reuse quite a bit. Which I was happy to note as I watched. When I saw her toss the couple pavers, I also thought she should be reusing them or posting them for others to have. Then at the end she described how she used them elsewhere.
As an elderly lady doing a lot of work in the garden, if you don't have knee pads, an old large towel folded up helps a lot. You have an invasive species on your property. It's the vines growing on either side of your knome. I also see it in front of your garage door. It is called Dog Stangling Vine (DVS). Ways to get rid of it: dig out all of the root and put entire plant in a black plastic bag. Leave out in the sun for a few years. Then throw away in the garbage. Never compost an invasive species. The plant is easiest to remove as a seedling which looks different from it's stretched out vine stage. Next best thing is to remove flowers and seed pods and bag them as mentioned. Mowing can weaken the plants but will not get rid of them. Mowing helps when there are many of the plant as they can really take over an area quickly displacing native habitats which results in a loss and decline of native fauna. Cutting an inch below the stem into the root can also help stop the spread by maintaining where DSV currently is but again won't be eradicating the plant completely.
Is that black bag procedure what I should do with the stinknet that is invading Arizona? I wondered. I pull it religiously, but didn't think just throwing it in the regular trash was really the way to go.
@@paulas_lensPersonally, using the black bag method for any type of invasive plant seems like the best option, as the black will attract more heat, killing the plant inside, thereby, keeping it from growing as it would just throwing in the trash.
Fantastic job Danie. I absolutely love the herringbone. And I don't know what isn't perfect about it cos it looks damn good to me. I'd be on cloud 9 for about 8 months if I did that - no scratch that. I'd be on that cloud for YEARS. Every time I'd see it I'd be "I did that!" So well done.
Good job....looks nice! Thank you for reusing bricks! We've lived in our house for 43 years. There was a time when we were young and my husband laid a brick patio or really tried to do anything and all the older men in the hood would come ambling along to offer "advice" and tools😂 it was great. IDK if you were lucky or not that didn't happen to you....sometimes you just want to get er done! You're fabulous!

You definitely transformed it. Looks so much better. I don’t have the money at the moment to spend hundreds of dollars outside . But I’m moving stuff around and definitely working with what I have. Thanks for inspiration though.😊
When you first started pulling up the old stuff, I was thinking how nice a semi-circle would look instead of a rectangle porch-like thing. I do know this-when tiling or even laying brick, you start the pattern dead center and work out, not end to end. So any small pieces being fit are on the perimeter. Neater. Ended up looking good, I like the brick step up and added decor. A red door would be awesome.
I am blown away by your bricklaying! It looks wonderful -- I'm not a professional landscaper/bricklayer either, but I wouldn't be able to tell that you didn't hire a professional to do this. You should be so proud!!
WOW Danie! It looks wonderful, girl! Now, I'm getting dressed and I will tackle a couple of projects at home. If Danie can, so do I.... (famous last words...) 🤣

Oh my goodness Danie this is fantastic! I always spend so much time in my head thinking about what I don’t know instead of stepping in & working it out. You’re a huge help to me!! ❤
No job is ever straight forward but you took the correct steps & you did the proper prep work. Always takes forever. And even if a person couldn't afford to replace the brick work / pavers - it's amazing how clearing the weeds & greenery etc. helps a lot. You were lucky to get the bricks for free as things like bricks & stones are so expensive & so is disposing of them. And one does need to be reasonably fit to do the work or get someone to help for health & safety. If one is doing a garden on a budget - you could keep the big rocks / boulders & make a rockery / feature out of them. Did you have all the tools / equipment or did you have to hire it - it all adds up. Do you need dust masks and what about proper footwear? Give you credit for all your hardwork.
You did a great job. It really looks a lot better and gives more space to stand at your door. If you have any bricks left you could hedge around your garden bed to define where it starts and finishes

It turned out so great, Danie! I've laid a paver patio and IT. IS. HARD. WORK. Kudos to you for doing such a fantastic job on your first go of it. And with a time-consuming chevron pattern too! I'm so impressed by you! And it's so great you got the bricks for free. I always forget about FB Marketplace for stuff like this. I'm filing that one away for later. Danie, you are the hardest working woman I've ever seen. Impressive work! For someone who has never laid bricks this is amazing. I'm exhausted just watching this video. Well done.
Shout out to the editor! That brick cutting montage was so fun to watch. :D I mean everything was fun to watch as always. Love your work Danie! I just noticed my smile going even wider on that part.
Again, I need to thank TSG for introducing me to your channel! I love how you don't extend projects across several weeks just to make videos. I've been binging your videos since that TSG episode, you are so talented and fun to watch! Like others have said, you're "not bad looking" brick laying is great!
You can't hear me but I'm yelling at you to stop pulling out the rocks!! Your old farmhouse had a rock foundation. The big gap in the corner would have been a good place to put those stones you pulled out before you foamed. Foam is not structural. BUT...the end result looks great aesthetically.
I was thinking that too. I was surprised that she took the structural integrity of the bricks with gravel, sand, and tamping so seriously but filled her foundation with foam. Hope it doesn't pose a problem and ruin her beautiful work!
I so need to work on my yard. SaturDIY to the rescue!!!! Good morning DIY Danie fans, good morning Danie and Kenobi. I never find anything on myFB marketplace sigh. I’m so excited to see what your magic cooks up.

I love in the beginning how you said that you had a vision and then you proceeded to commence removing the topsy-turvy heavy stones that I didn't think looked too bad until you removed them all. Then you let us watch you puzzle out the "restructuring" of the fascia, and you handled that like a boss. Then your idea of a border of bricks, plus the herringbone design was incredible. Then your husband helping you staggering the bricks with the glue and the final row of bricks for the step up to the landing was EPIC DanieDIY! Your creativity and your perseverance to learn how to cut bricks for the first time was also amazing! The final result is stunning!
Are you kidding me! I had herringbone brick done in my home and yours looks just the same! Bravo, you absolutely nailed it 🎉 The entire are just looks so stunning with your home!
Lol🌻Danie, when you exposed your doormat drama, I felt that. Years ago that was me, so been there done that. I proceeded to scrub down, de"bug"ify (I know it's not a word but whatever), weed and decorate my front entry using potted plants, decorative decor and a lot of elbow grease. The results are amazing. You've got this !!!😎
Our dog also thinks that yard work time happens at the same time as ball-throwing time. Your herringbone step is beautiful and definitely makes your front entry way look more welcoming. Subscribed!

Danie, you are the hardest working woman I've ever seen. Impressive work! For someone who has never laid bricks this is amazing. I'm exhausted just watching this video. Well done.
Ur skills are over the top and u don't back down from a challenge. Great job.
Wow, what an improvement! Well done, Danie 👏👏👏 Can’t wait to see more!
It turned out stunnnnning! You are by far the hardest worker on UA-cam and sooooo stinkin' talented! 🩷🌸🩷
Are you kidding me!?! That is FABULOUS!! Way to go! So good. Wow!!
Entryway looks SOOO nice, Danie! You “did good!” 😊
Omg! Danni...it's gorgeous! The herringbone is so professional looking
Good morning and happy Saturday!
Good Morning!
Wow! You did more of a workout. Afterwards you look stronger.💪 it came out so nice.
Love this! But please, bring back your gnome friend. There is no place like gnome.
Agree 100%
Is still there , check next to the ac unit ;)
@@Kiloftify Thanks -- yes I see it now!
This is one of the best DIY videos I've ever found on UA-cam. Thank you for showing your mistakes along with your successes! It turned out beautiful.
I so need to work on my yard. SaturDIY to the rescue!!!! Good morning DIY Danie fans, good morning Danie and Kenobi. I never find anything on myFB marketplace sigh. I’m so excited to see what your magic cooks up.
I KNOW YOU GOT THIS! If anything, just pull some weeds - it's amazing how much JUST THAT does.
I knew I wasted money on one many moons ago. A saw and a blade that cuts concrete. Hee hee This looks amazing. I’m impressed
Dani, you worked so darn hard with those bricks. It looks so fresh & clean. Awesome job!!! 🌷🌼☀️
Danie is a Superwoman! She can do just about anything!!!
58 yr old Danie wants you to work safer for your body.
Back = workbench /sturdy table on solid surface
Knees = foam pad/cardboard/kneepads

Where is the toad house? I love the little toad house . . .
You go girl!!! I love to see women do their own thing and be independent ! ❤ And you did a FANTASTIC JOB!
Are you kidding me! I had herringbone brick done in my home and yours looks just the same! Bravo, you absolutely nailed it 🎉
The entire are just looks so stunning with your home!
I love that you show all the steps and express your frustration. So much more realistic than many of these videos.
You are an amazing example of ..."We don't know what we're capable of until we try" 🫶🤍✨ beautiful work Danie, as always x
that step changes everything, the brick was really needed, really drew the eye to wear the entrance is. much more defined
Your brick area is beautiful. It was a lot of work but you nailed it. You getting all those bricks for free is amazing.
Danie I always said you were the greatest and you know what ? You ARE the GREATEST. WOW, what a beautiful job. Well done once again. 😊❤😊❤😊❤
I was exhausted just watching you work! Looks amazing, fair play!
I’d love to see how you put a little shelter up for that sort of space. Our front door is similar and I hate that there’s no shelter 😂
I am so impressed with your ability. The brick work looks excellent.
Subscribed!
You created a beautiful entrance to your home by the herringbone patterned brick which was a huge job, the weeding, plantings, and mulch. WOW
You did a great job with the brick. It looks rustic and pretty.
Danie, as a landscaper - you did an incredible job. Your new stoop looks lovely! I love your can-do attitude. Kudos, girlfriend! ❤👷♀️🌼🌷🌸
I really like the herringbone brick and reused pavers. The front door looks so much better! Good work, Danie!
You did an amazing job ! I hope hubby was appreciative. Up the value of your home ❤.
Girl you knocked it out of the park! Isn’t it satisfying to accomplish your vision. Keep up the good work ❤❤❤❤❤❤
