Hello, Danie! I'm a hardworking high school teacher located across Lake Ontario from you in Rochester, NY. It just occured to me how long I've been following you and LOVING your stuff, and that I should let you know how much your work means to me. I think the first video I every watched with you was when Vincenzo (and another Italian guy) helped you do a big (table?) epoxy project. You've come so far since then! Anyway, I'm a huge fan and look forward to your postings all week long. I love your weird, honest, can-do energy. In fact, it just occured to me that maybe I want to be you when I grow up (btw, I'm 52). No joke though, I've been thinking about retiring early from teaching and starting a DIY channel of my own. (Maybe? We'll see!) But thanks so much for inspiring me for years now, and keep on DIYing!
Hi. I’m also a fan of the show and also in Rochester, NY! My daughter is a high school math teacher at CCHS. She has three more years to retire and can’t wait! I do not envy teachers today. Wishing you the best!
@@Clovergirl7934 Well, teaching has its advantages and disadvantages, like everything else! Keep in mind that some of the reasons that teachers tend to retire early is because keeping up that level of energy until age 65 is unlikely. That. and I've also known a few people retired from this profession we love in order to have enough money to retire for real!
@@Clovergirl7934 Teachers are under attack all over the U.S. when we should be thanking them. I am so grateful to my children's (and my own!) teachers. Great teachers open minds not only to knowledge but also to asking questions, increasing human understanding, improving lives and creating beauty.
I would have used the round wood removed from the door to fit in the ugly empty spot below. Some wood shavings, some wood glue, some sand paper and some stain later it'll be a good looking door.
I thought her showing the door piece scrap was foreshadowing and was waiting for her to use it to fill in the hole! 😂 Ah well, still a beautiful reused door.
If the hole for the old door knob on the side of the door is big enough, you could make a tiny little Borrowers’ style room as a hidden treasure. Or hide something else like a Lego figure, a mini painting, crystals, or just paint a little scene in there. It’s possible a tiny battery operated light would fit in there. Then it’s a hidden treasure to see how many people notice and just bring you joy.
That would be so cool! And it would be an opportunity to give the door sneakily half-hidden nerdy touch! (Having e.g. a Sailor Moon or Batman figurine in there!)
I love that you were able to find a door that warms your heart. Just imagine all the people who have passed through her over the years and what their purpose was in doing so.🚪 I wish you many years of happiness as she welcomes you when you pass over her threshold into your studio of many possibilities. You did good kid, be proud.🌺❤️
That door 💖 Danie I used one of those electric pumps for water gallons (I don't know how to describe it in a better way) to make a make shift sink in my garage. It doesn't provide a lot of water per second but I can wash my hands or a paint brush without having to come into the house to do it. I used two of those big water "bottles" (english is not my main language obviously), one with water connected to the faucet pump thingy and I drilled a hole into a bowl (that ended up being my sink) where the dirty water goes. I don't know if I made sense, but my sistem works really well for me. You just have to dispose the dirty water from times to times and fill the other one with clean water when it empties. Hope this idea of mine helps someone who might need it. Lot's of love from a Portugal fan 🥰
Hiya Dani 😊 just a thought, to balance up the bottom of the door, you could add a sliver of wood across the bottom of the inset panels to match the ones on top. Love your work, carry on being a cool quirky chick x NZ
The energy with Lisa there is...puntastic in the very best way. Also, if you set up a coffee station next to the door you NEED a "Tea. Earl grey. Hot." sign for the wall above it. 🖖😂
the door is amazing & glad you're happy with the kickplate workaround. the black on the dark wood really helps to make it less obvious & also intentional. I think I would have probably opted to use some of the cut off timber to fill it in, especially as you cut out a circle disc for the new handle that would be about the right size as the old hole almost. I definitely think that if you're going to have a wash station area that it would be better tucked in the corner here rather than taking up valuable real estate in the middle of the Studio. a landing spot /mudroom / washstation sounds good. Can't wait to see what you end up doing
For the old hole in the door you could cut it into a rectangle with the jigsaw then make a template and put it on the piece you cut off the door then you can glue it in place fill it with wood filler or make a mix with the sawdust to fill in the gaps and then use wood crayons to make it look natural then clear coat it to give it a seamless look For the entry way I would use the space next to the green built in as a space to place bags and jackets could make a bench with hooks or have a coat rack, on the right would be a great space for a coffee and snack area, could also use it to add shelves with buckets of art supplies like brushes and such since you’re thinking of putting the sink there. could have some cabinets on bottom to store cleaning supplies as well. Could give the sink a built in look by putting a cabinet front on hinges and a push to open system so when you need to empty it you can just push and open it.
Beautiful door. I have to agree with some of the commenters though… It would have been nice to raise the door to not lose the proportions at the bottom, and to either fill in the hole with wood or perhaps another proportion could have helped if covering with metal. Everyone is different. I see some love the metal. It doesn’t look like a door plate to me-more like a patch and something the eye is drawn to that takes away from the rest of the door. I will say… I hate to be critical. You do amazing work and I think my perfectionism sometimes stops me from getting things done. That said. If there is another solution to fixing the hole still, I think it would look a lot better, as well as the idea you mentioned of a kick plate or something horizontal at the bottom to help with creating the illusion of a bit more of a border and proportion at the bottom of the door to remedy that chopped off vibe.
Just wondering, did you build the doorway before you found the door? If you had the door first, could you have built the doorway to fit so you wouldn't have had to cut the bottom?
I love this door!!! I really wish you picked a more whimsical doorknob! Your personality is whimsy and creative and I can see you walking into your magical realm every time you enter this space! Ijs🦋
Great to meet you, Lisa! Oh, Dani, I thought you would reuse the larger piece of wood you cut out for the new knob to fill in the old knob hole, since you didn't remove that segment of the door to shorten the overall height. Love floor outlets. Diggin' the moment of water painting.
Omgoodness Danie - what a stunning old door - so much character, charm and history - could you imagine if it could talk and share the things it’s seen and heard! 😊 Beautiful 🤩 ❤ I love the black metal accents of the plate and door handle makes it have a hint of industrial feel and compliments the dark wood fabulously! 👏 Perfect match to your creative space - shoutout to Lisa as well! 👍
Lisa is fantastic. I’m glad we got to meet her and hope she shows up again. The door is amazing! I’m only sad you didn’t build the doorway to fit the door. But you left its character so I’m grateful to see her appreciated as she deserves!
Your door is absolutely gorgeous!! You have done an amazing job on your studio. Your watercolor is beautiful. I just love watching you build and create. You are so very talented!! 🩷
The DOOR LOOKS FAB!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Because of the Victorian Edwardian style of said door, I see a possible Steampunk moment in the coffee/tea/snack bar to pay homage to that time period. Something like a tall Vic/Edw piece with a center mirror to reflect light and be a melding statement with flush framing like bars of that time. Woodtones, a beautiful counter, storage underneath. A found piece from a salvage place maybe. Just an idea. Brass fixtures...
With the wall next to the door the off cut from the door you could cut down in half and put black hooks on it and have a place to put coats and bags. 🤷♀️ just a thought. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AND YOU. I think you’re awesome xo
Just wondering if the piece you cut out for the new handle could have been used to fill the original hole?? 🤷🏼♀️ I love the door, it fits the room perfectly!
Hi Danie. There are many types of portable sinks with water tanks. Hair salon, gardening, and camping to name a few. Even ones within a table. Your door looks amazing 👏 ❤
The door is beautiful. I love the glass and the touch of green is perfect, my favorite for color for home decor. My suggestion - to the right of the door - your intended wash station and a coffee bar/drink station. Narrow counter, small fridge, under counter, off to one side and pen shelves above. Counter and shelves, the same color as the door.
I literally got to the point of the dry fit and had to stop to comment. That door is GORGEOUS!! I knew you were tying in the green in the stained glass with the storage area you built but baby, this is soooo FIRE!!!!!!! I shall now press play again!
Yes yes, yes, brass metal trim on the bottom to match the plate covering the old door handle holes. I was think that just as u said it. Such a gorgeous door. ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely perfect with the colour of the closet. And it's a perfect balance between a modern closet and an old classic door. Couldn't have found a better door imo
Your trip to Detroit for that door was definitely worth it. It's a beautiful door and really warms up the space. I think it looks great with the floor (you created that incredible floor!!). And from now on I'm going to be seeing unicorns lurking in the background when I watch your videos. (Love your editor!) I've been wondering how you're heating (and cooling) your new studio.
Fun thought for later, maybe make mini borrower sized door to fit onto the metal plate. Assuming a magnet will stick to the plate, it could be a project that can be switched or changed up according to the seasons/holidays. Love you videos ❤
The door is gorgeous! I personally think a coffee bar/cold-hot combo drink/drop your stuff area elevates a space. And of course I know you would make it super cool looking! Really great video and your editor did an awesome job in her cameo! ❤❤❤
Annnnd...your foray into Doorland has inspired myself to return to the thrift store where I found a lovely sheer creamy embroidered linen fabric, abt 6+ yds to make some easy quick sheer curtains for my windows. So I did. 🎉
The green glass with the green cabinets works so well! I kinda wish you had made the metal kick thing longer but as long as you love it it’s perfect :)
I can't push like so I'm telling u in this comment I love watching u I look forward to it every week keep on doing ur thing and I'll c u next week love u
Love the door😍! Well done problem solving fitting it🤩🤩. Your editor is hilarious IRL, as well as on her computer, and I like the drop zone/wash/replenish function for that wall. Good luck deciding! Each step you take helps the next decisions, and you can always reevaluate and make another video🤓🤓
I genuinely feel like we need a more creative doorknob! I fun short on you painting a custom ceramic knob with those pens you featured would be amazing or a vintage glass knob
It’s all coming together beautifully and I think the door color and floor color look great together. The green stained glass pieces tie in so well with the green storage cabinet, it’s like you planned that or something 😂
Love your work! One question - As the wall and frame were new construction, why didn't you make the opening match the door rather than chopping it down?
My thoughts exactly. It looked like there was wiggle room to do just that. Plus, chopping off the bottom ruins the proportions of the door. Sad. Now it looks weird. I usually like what you do, but you lost me with this one. You didn't show that gorgeous door the respect it deserved when you truncated it.
The doooooor ! This magical door ! That was sooooo huge ! And Lisaaaa ! Dream video ! 🤩 Must have felt so stressful to try and cut this door, install the handles ! Also sweet sweet flowers you were drawing, drawing, painting is so relaxing ! Thanks for sharing a piece of it ! Hum, by the way, you said, and you already said it in other videos, "take it slow" and "moving slow today, but at least I'm moving and I think that's what matters". Could you make a shirt out of it, out of this idea ? I love this principle too, with the make it messy spirit for example, it completes I feel ! I already told you it feels magical ! Such a huge step towards your future and present every second ! So exciting ! Love all this for you !!! 🥰🥰
I honestly expected a lot of disappointments installing the door, BUT you pushed through the whole project like the expert creator that you are. It looks wonderful. I am looking forward to next weeks video to see what else you are going t o create in your dream studio!!!🎉🎉 😊
This door is gorgeous and had a doorknob in a really weird place. It's lucky you found it because now it's got a happy home! I really love how the green from the door draws your eye to your storage and vice versa. I personally love the black metal plates. I'm an industrial girl at heart and it just makes it feel like the door came from some factory from a hundred years ago. Like it was the boss's office door.
Love the door Danie! I also LOVED as soon as you mentioned the kick plate and painting it to match the handle ❤❤❤❤ I love that you found a door that made your magic heart sing and you made it fit where you needed it! BRILLIANT AS ALWAYS! Lots of love Jocelyn and Maisie! xxxxx
I was in time out couldn’t comment earlier. This was so much fun your editor is a hoot. You have some great friends and the door turned out amazing. I like the plate then again those were popular to protect that part of the door nears the knob when I was growing up. Especially in high traffic areas.
Great to meet Lisa! LOVE the door! I think the metal plate works great. Because you painted it black it visually doesn’t stick out. The studio is looking FANTASTIC!!!
You really are the one that knows what is needed there but I wish you would paint that one diagonal wall of funky color because you’ve got the the intense green and that would just be fun just to see something that you would not normally see instead of Machi Machi
It looks absolutely stunning!!!!! But I feel like you missed the opportunity to make that metal piece the same shape as one of those long pickets in the glass.
Amazing door and you did a great job installing it. You had a cool opportunity to fill the hole either a giant green marble or even two that would have complimented the green glass in the window, but still honored the character of the door. But I loved what you did also!
Wash station further right, coffee/tea/mini fridge station at middle (mini fridge can be under or in cabinet). Most left can be an area for people and you (mostly you) to put bags/coats etc :D FURTHEST right can just be decor if it's in a tight side that you can be under easily. Or things you need little access to
The door is beautiful! Well done, Danie 👏👏👏 And thank you for introducing us to Lisa. She is a brilliant editor and so funny. Love the doggy shots too! Have a great week!
The door is gorgeous, Danie, but I have to agree with some of the others that bottom looks too cut off. As a relatively easy fix, what if you cut off the amount you need from the current bottom to match the thickness at the top, then use the piece you already cut off to replace it? That way the wood and stain already matches. You could use dowels to keep it clean, flush, and sturdy. This will shorten the insets, but give you the thickness to match the top and make the door look more balanced. Plus this method wouldn't force you to move the hinges or the handle. You'd probably also need to cut and stain a little angled trim piece to put at the new bottom of the insets to match the rest of the shape, but you probably already have something that would work in your wood collection. At the end of the day though, if you're happy with it, that's all that matters! Just wanted to offer an idea in case you do decide to change it. Love your magic, Danie! :-)
You could not have found a more perfect door for that space. It brings so much (cohesive) character to the entrance of your studio. I really love it! Looking forward to the ongoing evolution of this space 💜🖤
Oh my goodness. I so enjoy watching every minute of you, you are so creative and talented. I love, love, love this door♥‼ In my younger yeare (I'm now 77 - OMG) I loved to make stained glass windows, lamps, etc. This looks so beautiful in your shop. I was thrilled for you when you found it but now to see it in it's place -WOW!
❤love the door. Your blank wall? What about a coat rack as you walk in. A small bench to sit to put your slippers on for those cold days to feel cozy. And your coffee drink station. Love your studio 😊
Your joy with the completion of this project makes me happy ! Thank you for sharing you and the evolution of your creative space. Love that I get to support you in some small way. You bring joy and the sense of possibilities to me every week. Thank you ❤
Danie, I love the door so much, wow! Great job! I would make that wall next to it a nice entry way station, with storage and perhaps a plats-wall for decor. I wouldn't do the coffee table and the wash pump area there. Maybe I would do it on the far end corner of the studio. In any case, I am sure whatever you do will suit your needs and look amazing!!!
I would've cut some different shape on the door and fill in by cutting the same shape in the wood piece you cut from the bottom door . It would be a little detail in this beautiful door ❤
Could easily DIY an old basin style kind of sink for upstairs, and put in a water reservoir with a hidden water cooler sized bottle inside a cabinet to supply it.

It’s all coming together beautifully and I think the door color and floor color look great together. The green stained glass pieces tie in so well with the green storage cabinet, it’s like you planned that or something 😂
First off - I love the metal plate - it adds character. It is beautiful and the studio is coming together. I love love love your vision. 💕
@@RebeccaHunt-wv8bc totally agree.
Yes a coffee station and a mini fridge and shelf space for cups and plates would be nice on that wall .
Right! I mean it MUST be a hot/cold beverage station😅🎉
A Belfast sink on top of an old unit as a vanity with a fresh water and grey water tank storage underneath would look stunning as a wash station xx
Using your pump (maybe a foot pump or electric if you could run it there) x
Just Love the door!!! 🙌🙌 Loved meeting "The Editor"❤ See ya next time👏
I honestly expected a lot of disappointments installing the door, BUT you pushed through the whole project like the expert creator that you are.
Definitely a coffee station in the spot by the door. Also, I’m loving your studio makeover! Keep it up. Can’t wait for the next one.
Loved meeting Lisa! Need more Lisa episodes too! Love the door, awesome job
I think that door trim would look fabulous in that green colour of builtins. 👀
Best part of my Saturday! 🎉 Glad that even the pro struggles with tape measures! 😂
Stupid tape always gets stuck 😒
Perfection! Love the “Captains Quarters”!
Good choice on the latch door handles. You’ll like these when you are carrying things.
Wash station further right, coffee/tea/mini fridge station at middle (mini fridge can be under or in cabinet). Most left can be an area for people and you (mostly you) to put bags/coats etc :D FURTHEST right can just be decor if it's in a tight side that you can be under easily. Or things you need little access to
That door is absolutely beautiful. Such a great find.
The door is beautiful! Well done, Danie 👏👏👏 And thank you for introducing us to Lisa. She is a brilliant editor and so funny. Love the doggy shots too! Have a great week!
Love that door with the green that goes so well with your storage cabinets. Well done!
That door is the JAM! Haha. Get it? ❤❤
3:27 carpenter probs 😭🤣 as a tile/flooring installer, I feel this 😩
This is great, such an impactful addition to the studio space. Always rewarding when a plan comes together.
Love the door Danie. It reminds me of my old house's front door. Labours of love makes good memories.
Great to give love to the editor. I love her sense of humour :)
Thank you ❤
Looks great- I wasn’t sure what the metal plates would look like, but they look good.
Beautiful job Danie! The door is beautiful and the stained glass picks up on the gorgeous green storage cupboards!!❤️❤️❤️
I think you need a small fridge up there!!!❤😊😊
LOVE THE DOOR!!!!
And I LOVE your energy, Danie.
U are one of my favourites go to UA-camrs. Thankyou Danie
I love that door! The stained glass and the built in storage unit look so good together!
Fantastic work Danie and Lisa! Love the door and the watercolour flowers. Just a beautiful video all round. Thank you!
