I used foundation two shades darker during a dance recital. Some parents wanted a redo. I explained how the lighting washes every down. They had their sons and daughters redone with the other mua. So when they saw their children in pictures they all looked like ghosts 👻 The ones who didn’t change were very happy and had their pics taken with me 🙋🏻♀️
thank u so much in my companys only (knowledgeable) makeup artist and i knew that we were supposed to go a shade or two darker in foundation but all these basic girls who can’t even do singled eyeliner keep telling me idk what i’m doing when i’m literally a makeup artist
I am in a play called Blithe Spirit and I play edith the maid. Im excited for it. I have been in more than one play but stage makeup has been a struggle for me. I always had to have people help me with doing my eyebrows and it is hard to do that now, when I'm the only teen in the production. It's a good thing though, since they saw me fit enough to play someone 10 years or so older than i am lol. This video helped alot thank you!
this is my first time playing a male role for a stage production (Dave Miller in State Fair) but I’m only the male in the beginning and the end - the rest of the time I’m a girl in ensemble. my costume designer instructed that the girl makeup needs to be very subtle so that it doesn’t look too crazy when I come back on as a boy, and thanks to you, I know that if I put brown liner and a gloss with the tiniest bit of blush in addition to the boy makeup, it really won’t look that different on stage! thanks so much for your help, Nicole - I’ll recommend this video to all my friends when they need help from now on ☺️❤
@@oliviakitchen2264 it went really well! We got a few nominations for gene Kelly things but to be honest I'm not quite sure if we won or not😅😅. What about yours?
If you have a dark skin model would you still make their foundation shade darker than their skin tone? Or do you just do that for lighter skin toned? Thanks
@@cinnamonspice6545depends on the individual, for the general person you will go two shades darker, only those close to the darkest ebony skin colors might do less-- people really underestimare how harsh lights for performance and recordings are, someone with a medium or dark skin tone also get washed out just like lighter skin tones. Generally if it looks like a bad spray tan in real life its probably perfect to perform 😅
Thank you so much, I am in my first play.... ever.... it's a modernized, adapted version of Don Quixote, and I play the lead, Donna.... and had no clue what I was supposed to do... our makeup artist has to focus on the three "goth/emo" characters that come on less than a minute after me, so chose to just do my own makeup, your tutorial really helped.
Thank you for this video! The tip on foundation to go 2 shades darker is a great tip! Love to try to False Lashes you used on this Video. Do you remember the brand/type? Also can you recommend other brands of creme foundation that stores carry with fewer palettes that has the shades of light/dark brown, cream and white? Thank you so much!
I do partner dance at the stage. I am looking for the lipstick that will not leave stains on my or my partners costume when doing air steps. Also bright red lipstick sometimes might get on teeth, so I am not that comfortable to full smile when I use it. Any advice? Thank you
Haven’t been on stage in a very long time and secret time. This is my biggest fear bc I don’t like my face being touched by other people and well you can see how this is an issue. So thank you.
hi! I have my first stage performance soon, and as it is a burlesque act, lots of my skin will show. how do I ensure my face does not look too "detached from my body" (since my face will have a darker tone due to makeup..)? thank youuu
Wow, thank you for that video! I feel like I could actually get this done with your explanation/demonstration. Now let's say, my role demands a really dark look ... I'm getting black lipstick and nails and the eyes are going to be dark as well. So white eye shadow as a base is a fantastic idea. Would you still put on rouge/blush?
Does the concealer have to be darker too? Or should I just make it my natural skin colour since when I’m doing my normal every day make up I make my concealer lighter.
You could probably my get away with your natural colour for under eye concealer. If it’s too light, mix a little bit of the darker foundation in with it.
Thanks really enjoyed the video I know how to do stage makeup but I always enjoy seeing others tips and tricks. I can’t believe You said “good luck” 😭😭 😂😂
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! Question though, I have never bought makeup before, so how do I find the right shades for my face, brows, etc? Thank you!
It could! I would double check with the artistic director if there is an approach you should go with. There is usually one for Orchestras or Opera singers. If its just typical stage makeup, then this could apply. If the musicians you are working with are in stadium lights, it will be different. Also, work with the musicians directly if it is their show (headliner, opening act, etc) every band and musician has their own creative style and look. Hope that helps!
but depending on the show, you will tone it down. you don’t want to do the female makeup if you are doing something like newsies, but if you are VERY young performer, then do the male one with some feminine touches
I don't know how tha darker base works for you guys. On me it loos so bad especially if my chest shoulders etc are showing. I always match with my skin tone, but use a neutral or warm toned undetone instead of a cool toned one, which is my normal one. It looks so much better live and in photos/video, that the dark foundation
FINALLY a makeup tutorial for guys too

Yes. That is a real no-no in daily life but darker base on stage is right. AWESOME instruction. If they follow it they will see

this helped a lot because I was put onto stage crew and into makeup, but I actually don’t know anything. Still have a long way to go lol
sameee
I have to do this for my show and I've never done stage make up before so this really helps, thanks
Tech week starts in 2 days and I needed help so thank you!
Oh God I always use the shade that matches my face. Now I feel like a goof. Well next time I’ll be sure to get a darker foundation!
If you have a dark skin model would you still make their foundation shade darker than their skin tone? Or do you just do that for lighter skin toned? Thanks
I would go a shade darker for deeper skin tones as well.
Just one shade?

Thankl you so much, now I can actually do people's make-up that's not just foundation
First role in a loooong time.TY this was simple
That much darker, hey? Cool! It makes perfect sense, though, I always look ghostly. Hehehe
Every time I see you on stage you look amazing!

You’ll have to look for long wearing liquid ones. I’ve had success with Maybelline and Cover Girl. Urban decay also makes some.

Great video, but I just about went insane with the song replaying over and over and over.😂 Wonderful video, nonetheless.

Do you absolutely have to only use matte products? Are there any negative effects of using shimmer or glitter on the face or eyes?
Ireadna shimmer makeup products like highlighter shimmery eyeshadow tends to look like sweat under all te stage lights

Sometimes we get to have sparkly lips but matte is the usual so we don't look pale or sweaty!
Best one I've seen!

Hi! Thank you so much for this video! Question though, I have never bought makeup before, so how do I find the right shades for my face, brows, etc? Thank you!
Best thing to do is ask an employee!
I only have power foundation, and cream concealer that are my skin tone if I remember correctly, what should I do?
Thank you! This helped greatly!

im in a show this week and this video helped so much!!💙
I'm so happy to hear that!!
Thanks so much for the helpful video! Quick question for you: is the concealer the same shade as your skin, or is it also 2 shades darker?
I am a male and i have a really dark eye bags . What should i do
Try using a small amount of orange concealer under the eyes. Let it dry and then put concealer/foundation on top. That should help hide any darkness.
probably sleep

but depending on the show, you will tone it down. you don’t want to do the female makeup if you are doing something like newsies, but if you are VERY young performer, then do the male one with some feminine touches
