There’s definitely pros and cons to both sides. But what makes a huge difference in the outcome is knowing when to use a logical approach or an emotional one. Naruto has never lied or used someone’s emotions against them to get his way. And that’s made a huge difference when he’s talking with an enemy. Going the cold hearted logical approach without considering the feelings and emotions of the enemy never ends well. In most cases, it makes matters worse and backfires.

Shikamaru is being a realistic leader. Naruto had always been the optimist type of leader who tends to see the good in other people, we're talking about the same guy who called Obito a . In my opinion, Naruto and Hashirama succeeded in their respective goals of peace mainly because they were too OP for anyone else to start a war against. But things are different now with enemies capable of throwing hands with Naruto and Sasuke. Underhanded tactics like backstabbing goes hand in hand with their nature as shinobi. Shikamaru knows he can't fight them so he resorted to basic shinobi tactics. It will be interesting to see how the story progress although I don't see Naruto or Sasuke having any relevance to the story unless they get a power boost out of nowhere.
I think everything that Koji says is cryptic and needs to be looked at for hidden meanings. If he can see the future then he sees the point in which Boruto doesn't listen to him and will know exactly what to say. Perhaps he is working for the greater good and a better future, but it makes me wonder if there is more to what he says beyond the surface level.
I think Shikamaru's change was hinted at in the novels. I'm not surprised he is more logical and calculating because he's the Hokage, and he has billions of citizens to look after. His decisions hold the weight of the survival of the village. I think he should attack shinjus because we can't have shinjus going around and absorbing people in order to change them into mini trees. 1. Fused Momoshiki used Shikamaru's shadow paralysis jutsu on them to where they couldn't move so Boruto had to throw his vanishing rasengan in order to free them and save them.
2. After the fight vs Naruto and Sasuke, FUSED Momoshiki replenished his health and chakra with the scientific ninja tool from Katasuke, ate 3 more chakra pills which replenished him even further, and still lost 1v1 to *KID* Boruto while Naruto and Sasuke were pinned down by chakra rods.
3. *BASE* Boruto using a shadow clone was capable of blitzing FUSED Momoshiki, punch him in the stomach, activate his Jougan, counted FUSED Momoshiki's taijutsu, which created an opening for another vanishing rasengan hit to his ribcage all before the real Boruto came out of the sky with his giant vanishing rasengan(which was mixed with BOTH Boruto and Naruto's chakra) to defeat FUSED Momoshiki but the *FACT* still remains that *KID* Boruto did indeed fight *FUSED* Momoshiki *1v1* and held his own and defeated him proving he's already Otsutsuki tier which is NOT *DEBATABLE*
