Tamiya 1/35 Scale Kraft-Wagen - Part 3

Having a SHOCKER! :). Tried the chipping method with hairspray and it has failed again - I don't know what I'm doing incorrectly.
I tried chipping fluid on the King Tiger and Panther recently and that didn't work either - frustrating, but still learning my skills.
Any tips or pointers would be wonderful guys, many thanks Liam

Hi Liam. Tamiya paints are part acrylic and part enamel and are difficult to chip especially yellow tones. I do two passes of hairspray at arms length so you get a light mist covering. Allow that to dry for 15 minutes and then repeat the process. Once dry then apply a THIN layer of paint. If you do three or four layers of paint then its going to be very difficult to chip. If you apply water as soon as the paint has gone on then you will start to just take the whole lot off. After about 20 minutes when the paint has just dried is a good time to start chipping. I use wire pens or thick stell wool to start the chipping process by breaking the surface paint. Then go over to the brush and carefully start to chip. Be careful though as it is easy for the paint to come off in large chunks. Practice makes perfect so you may want to practice on an old model. Paint thickness is key to a good chipping success story. Hi Liam, I only left the top coat of paint to dry for an hour before wetting and chipping, if you let the paint dry, say overnight, then chipping becomes difficult if not impossible. That is the hairspray I used by the way.
