- Amanda Seales joins Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for a conversation full of raw honesty about her life, career, and personal journey. Opening up about her Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, Amanda discusses the challenges she's faced due to misconceptions about her personality, emphasizing her literalness and the difficulties it can create in social interactions. Reflecting on her upbringing, Amanda credits her supportive mother for accepting her and providing a strong foundation, despite societal norms. Then, Amanda shares her childhood memories of working for Disney and Nickelodeon, explaining how her experiences were unlike those depicted on the documentary All Quiet on Set, despite facing racism from other children. Amanda opens up about the complexities of navigating academia, like how she almost faced expulsion based on the accusations of another student which forced her to create her own major. Amanda comments on the growing number of hip-hop beefs, how they are good for the genre if they force performers to elevate their music, and says Nas won his beef vs Jay-Z. Amanda remarks on why her time with Floetry wasn’t always the smoothest which is punctuated by her being aired out on the Wendy Williams Show. Amanda recounts how she got her start in radio as a result of her poetry, having her first interview while working for Sirius be of OutKast, and how industry politics involving Jay-Z and Pusha T ultimately got her fired from Sirius. Continuing on the subject of industry politics, Amanda shares the time she was kicked out of the Black Emmy’s party because Issa Rae’s publicist wanted her gone, which led to a scuffle and confusion. Amanda goes further into the tumultuous relationship she’s had with Issa Rae’s publicist over the years and how it’s spilled over into her work on Insecure, which created a work environment that ultimately has led Amanda to disagree with Lil Rel’s opinion that Issa creates environments that empower women. Amanda also touches on other sets and productions like Bring the Funny, The Real, hosting the BET Awards during COVID, and working with Kevin Hart. Amanda also discusses Queen Latifah coming to her defense, Candace Owens, Emmanuel Acho’s comments about Angel Reese, and how her expectations for dating differ drastically from Shannon’s. This second portion of the interview is a testament to Amanda's unwavering courage and resilience, as well as her commitment to speaking truth to power in pursuit of justice and authenticity.

Being called the “N” word by CHILDREN, qualifies as racism. They didn’t call EACH OTHER the same name; they knew who to direct the word to, Shannon.
💯 Especially because they were in a work environment, as well. They heard that directly from their parents about her specifically.
@@lynndwhoExactly..their parents…racism is learned behavior.
And I’ve heard her call white people crackers….🤷🏾♂️
I agree. A while child called me the same thing. He was too young to spell it
I thought you said the definition of racism is only when someone/a group holds institutional power, and KIDS don’t have that. Changing definitions when it suits you
Children are racists too. It’s a learned behavior
You are a product of your environment
Shannon act like he don't know this
It’s a learned behavior from there parents do u rlly think kids fully understand the meaning of there words?
...but I'm glad he said it just so they could have the dialog and we could hear both sides.
So you going to argue with an 8 year old or are you taking it up with their parents? Exactly. Kids aren’t racist. Maybe when they become teenagers, but kids can’t be racist.
Totally agree with not hugging someone you don't vibe with. Not going to be fake or phony.

Shannon Sharpe is also correct. Both can be true.
It's true but the older you get you realize that and it gives stuff more context. I'm not saying you forget it, but it becomes less important sometimes.

I love how she didn't say one word while standing on it! 🙌🏾
She definitely made her point and I sided with her immediately.

I’m guilty of being one of the people who didn’t like this lady for no reason. I’d actually tune out whenever her image is present (on my screen) and boy was I either wrong or heavily influenced to do so. This interview made me love her, respect her, and I’m anxious to support her. She is in fact lovable. I love her unapologetic self awareness.
i don't think we saw the same interview?
Wow how honorable of you to be honest about your past mistake in the name of growth ❤
Likewise. 💯
She lied about having autism and she made up racists stories maybe rethink ur opinion of her
SHE IS A SELF ASORD NARCISSIST!!!
Kids being taught to not speak up against adults is the main reason so many kids were molested and continued to be due to the fear of being molded to not speak up for themselves. I can't understand why Shannon bought this headache on his podcast.
I actually love people like her she speaks honestly and forthright. Those are the kind of friends I love❤
She has zero accountability, she claims 7 people who didn’t know her ripped her name off a door? That sounds honest and forthright to you? She listed almost 40 people who don’t like her and not once did she say what she did wrong that made all these people not like her, everyone doesn’t like her and it’s never her fault, that’s the premise of this entire interview. You lack discernment and, it’s concerning. She lied that she was diagnosed with autism and admitted it, that’s your version of honesty I guess.
you can be honest and not be rude. Maybe you deserve someone like this lol. You can be honest, but it comes off as rude when you have little to no rapport with your friends. Learn some tact, read the room. It's not rocket science.
The BESssssssT!
She literally lies about autism.....
Lmao 🤣 what you love is lies it seems.
@polynarcs most ppl don't like ppl that they don't understand or relate to. She's very gifted so that'll also get jealousy brought up against her. Weak ppl don't like stronger ppl. She’s extremely smart. Everything she says is intentional and thoughtful. Even if it’s hard for people to understand or they don’t like the way it’s delivered. What she’s saying and the experiences she’s sharing are meaningful.
Amanda: I was diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder.
Shay: But was there a clinical diagnosis.
I swear I keep wanting her to look over to the audience for us to laugh 🤣
Lots of people just be lying about it now. You have to specify

This is the first club Shay Shay interview I have watched in its entirety. I’m so glad I did. It helped me understand her better. She has a beautiful light to shine. I wasn’t sure she was going to be “heard” by him initially but I’m glad that she was able to express herself freely.
I’m 40. And there’s nothing like the confidence that Amanda carries. It feels so liberating knowing who you are and to walk in that truth. ❤.
And it's why you're still single.
As a POC educator, CHILDREN CAN BE AND ARE RACIST. It's a LEARNED mentality
If a white child isn’t racist then they are being taught values counterproductive to their people’s well being.
FACTS!!!
As a white male who grew up with a culturally diverse extended family . 100% Racism in all forms is LEARNED as is colourism within each race. I had friends of all colours and ethnicities and only understood is all to be different not “different” I do believe Children brought up in racist environment don’t understand the effect or impact of their behaviour being racist because it’s simply what they’re brought up with no less excusable but up to an age ( because if your not being educated at home it your being taught at school ) it’s about the fact that your hurting someone period regardless of context and correcting that behaviour immediately. You blame the upbringing not necessarily the product. Unfortunately it’s all learned behaviour … children are not born thinking their differences can be perceived as negative be it race lifestyle gender sexuality religion….. they are taught to be cogniscent of these perceptions based on things passed on . The hard part on both sides is just letting go. On one side it’s realizing your ancestors passed issues have nothing to to do with your current existence understand we are just people and differences are surface level in every way . On the receiving side it’s hard to let go of all the of the atrocities youre ancestors experienced as the hands of people with these issues , because while you’re world is different they went through it get you here and letting go may feel like you’d be denying their struggle so you end up carrying it forward in a way as well .
@@matthewlima7121but they are racist and are still racist and their adulthood! We can’t excuse it bc most never unlearn. So we have to judge them at face value, like actually guilty until proven otherwise like this justice system! We actually see the racism!
@@matthewlima7121 Racism is a form of otherism and humans are predisposed to some form of the latter. Studies have shown 1) We prefer people who look like us (or like someone in our family), 2) We prefer people we see as similar to ourselves, etc. So while a specific strain may be “learned”, we are easy to learn and apply it and in the case of “racism” of whites against non-whites, and for the former it has been immensely enriching and empowering as morally degrading as it may be, therefore it survives and perpetuates.
If she was 10 years old and was able to recognize the other kids were wrong for callimg her the N word, then the other 10 year olds should have the capability to understand that them saying the word was wrong and excuses shouldn't be made for them.

In the first 5 minutes of the conversation I knew Shannon was gonna have to come outta the shallow end and join her in the deep. Disagreeing or challenging your perspective is not nullification. People have one way sensitivity and high self importance.

I learn sometimes when people are sharing their experiences, don’t play devil’s advocate, especially when it’s life experiences. You’re only hearing the story, they lived it
Are you an interviewer? 😂
💯 Exactly this part!
@@kenyafromcaliI don’t think you need to be an interviewer to say that. That’s a normal part of daily human interaction. I’ve actually had to learn and apply this when listening to people

This is an excellent observation (that u obviously are intelligent enough to realize that you don’t have to be an interviewer for 😂)
So much of what she says feels like my life as well! Only thing is that I was very timid. Thank you so much for this! So eye opening!!
I like how she didn’t allow anyone to tell her narrative. One thing you can’t do is correct someone on their perceived experience even if you see it from a different perspective, that is still their truth. Shout out to Shay for coming with these interviews. People feel so comfortable to share so much with him too
In my opinion, Amanda is so self-aware and direct and a segment of the people who strongly don't like her or find her annoying are arguably uncomfortable because they don't have or have not personally reached her level of awareness, confidence, & unapologetic resolve to fight injustice. The mindset is "I can't silence my voice and saying the hard truths because of anyone else's discomfort" and I 100% understand it & support it. I am also appreciate Amanda's candidness and the visibility/representation of someone living on the spectrum.
She is a critical thinker and that’s difficult for a lot of people to practice.
Shannon is being combative. It’s her experience he wasn’t there.
1000% agree.
She can effectively articulate her experience and stand it unapologetically because she's smart and educated, it's a threat to anyone else who can't🤷🏽♀️ it's an offense to those people. Salute Amanda!🔥
I deal with the same things, but somehow I still think her becoming famous and "successful" allowed a certain amount of arrogance that when added with her diagnosis could make her unbearable for a lot of people. In a way that people could easily dismiss her and make the claim that they don't "like" her, I also feel as though she needed to feel this way to become this self aware in a good way.
I understand Amanda frustration through this interview😩😩 I’m proud she kept going

I can see how people don’t like her because you can’t not agree without her talking sideways . And she keeps cutting all her interviewers off . She for sure needs to learn to be respectful and listen rather than talking over people. Overall Shannon did very well with this interview. He had times where he definitely could’ve been more understanding though.

She is extremely perceptive and highly intelligent. You aren't just going to say anything around her and try to sneak nonsense past her. I'm assuming this is why she butts heads with so many people in a world where everyone is dumbed down. People will resent you for your intelligence and awareness. Salute to her!
No. She butts heads with people because she has difficulty with the concept of “there’s a time and a place”. As soon as she detects something is off, she speaks on it. It’s admirable but it’s a hard way to live. Part of that is autism spectrum, but part of it is also defensiveness. She says it herself.

Amanda spoke for a lot of women in this interview that don't have the platform or even the courage to speak up about things like this. One of the hardest things to navigate in life is being misunderstood. When your intentions and someone's perception don't align it is a perfect storm for these experiences. When a person is exposed to an environment where they have to make a choice to fight for what is right or just comply with or be passive to what is happening, then they choose to fight or speak out!! this is the result!! Constantly fighting for yourself and others will mold you to a particular character. Being real all the time is a lonely path, you can not subject yourself to things like validation. If you do, you will be broken, and your conviction will be lost along with your identity that was molded by the environment that made you.
The fact that he did the interview speaks volumes to his desire to have dialogue and grow. People will rather criticize him for trying and opening his self up to criticism rather than respect and appreciate his vulnerability. I haven’t seen Amanda on any other platform outside of her own social media accounts. I’m glad she got to tell her story and engage in meaningful dialogue.
nope. if you wana grow than sit there listen and learn. growth doesn’t come from being antagonistic and challenging someone’s intelligence and experience. growth would be listening and learning.

It took him over an hour to be self aware and to stop putting his thoughts of what’s right or wrong on Amanda. Kudos to her for setting him straight. The essence of a good interviewer is the ability to listen and hear

@@spendleton79 what did he need to learn? Outside of Shannon learning how to identify her personality disorder (not autism as that is not a PD) there was nothing profound about what she said. Talking to her is a useless blank mission.

I mean, honestly, if she was diagnosed Asperger‘s, she definitely has all the traits of Asperger‘s. My sister has Asperger’s and she is very much like Amanda. In fact, she calls herself a truth teller. The problem with these people is that they have to be taught to understand that they are not always right Because they really believe that they are always right and everyone else is wrong and they can never ever get their mind around the idea that they might be fallible. They think it’s their job to tell people about themselves but they don’t like to be told about themselves at all, so they’re kind of sociopaths away also and she calls herself an empath, but these people are not empathic. They do feel deeply but they have a lot of trouble understanding what they say and do affects other people so I think she definitely is on the spectrum.
I don't know who this lady is, but Im only 13 minutes in and I get the feeling that she self-diagnosed herself with Autism. Is she looking for another way to be special and different?
