It's a good solution to have the good ending to be just as good as the bad ending, as tails then can first save sonic and then make a nose dive after the falling emeralds to that he not only saves sonic but the chaos emeralds too!

Come to think of it, it would make more sense if he didn’t go super because you need 50 ring into order to go super and you get no rings in Death Egg.

sonic doesn't need 50 rings to go super, the player does. take the sonic 3 opening, for example. sonic doesn't lose any rings when knuckles hits him, and he begins angel island act 1 with 0 rings. the ring count simply quantifies the time in which he can hold the form, and sonic may just not feel very comfortable turning super for the hell of it in situations of uncertainty (such as those where there's enemies and/or no one to help), seeing as he is as vulnerable as ever when he stops being super (0 rings). the 50 ring threshold would just be a self-imposed limit for safety's sake. taking this into account, we can say that sonic went super _because_ tails was there to catch him. the journey was over, he had gathered all the emeralds, and he felt safe celebrating with his buddy. he really did need tails after all. have a good day, my friends.
