When did this happen. I’m watching a video on how to stand up and I appreciate the info and can’t wait to try it. I was 18 years old just last week. Now I’m 72.
O my, I'm 70 now & 6'1" & boy how I have needed to learn these up & down movements. I'm still young enough to still engage in floor activities e.g.petting grooming my cat, playing with grandkids, cleaning floors in my apt etc. I used to dread doing them because I'd fall on my way up or down. With practice now I'm getting better at it & the anxiety & fear are gone. Ergo, more freedom. Thank you.
I saw a lot of Feldenkrais videos, Cynthia is so nice, the smile never leaves her face. I was happy to attend her classes. Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you, even if it's just virtual
Very helpful and well-timed. I just waited 20 min. for my husband to get home to help me off the floor. I overestimated my balance and strength (lifting a large fern at arm’s length overhead) and crashed down under the shelving and more BIG plants. Just another “learning experience” with no injuries. I will be watching and using this information. Thank you.
@@Futurelifenow i have a damaged knee - which now if i get down close to the floor makes it ever harder to get up - and on top of that concussion syndrome - My trouble with this one would be having to depend on strength in the right knee - and that if my head is upside down i black out - Any suggestions?
@@333Eriana It sounds like you would be best served by using a chair so you can come up on one knee and lean your forearms on the chair. Then shift the weight of your provide forward onto your arms so you don't bear as much weight in your legs.
I hope everybody appreciates how unique this video is, in that it has clear instruction, and each **portion** of the movement is described and demonstrated. This is very rare, I find, in instructional videos when it comes to some kind of a physical movement or activity.
The presentation is very good both in purpose and demonstrable ways of a person with reasonable mobility in most imbs could use. However the most relevant one is the elderly with limited mobility and insufficient strength to raise themselves on to one arm or to sit up especially after the Trauma of a fall when the first thought is, "What have I Broken" or **** Not Again! The sheep on its back has nothing on an Octogenarian flaying about on the floor trying to get some purchase somewhere. This is not a criticism only an observation. From one who knows because he has had a few falls in the past year or so. 2 replacement knees, 1 replacement shoulder other damaged. Heavier than he should be for his height. Complications inside the chest areas. Yes now I do have a stick to help prevent falls. Poor reflexes? Trip over a matchstick or scuffing foot. Once it starts, can't stop it Try to ease the fall to prevent broken bones. Please carry on the good work. You are treating the majority.
@@billbillinness4742 You are absolutely correct. Custom approaches are needed for many and better done in a one-to-one session. And balance in general may need to be worked with before this step is. Thanks for sharing your ideas and experience.
I found this randomly...or was it answered prayer! I havn't been able to kneel in prayer & get myself up for about 4 yrs after an injury to my leg. I really want to be able to kneel & I prayed & tada...thanks to your wonderful instructions & rewinding & practicing, i was able to get off the floor & stand! I was so proud of myself & felt so enabled! Thank you so much! I'm now working on going from standing position to the floor without landing with a thud, but with practice it will come! I will soon be 59. The old saying "if you don't use it, you'll lose it" is so true!
I am a senior myself and personally appreciate the clear and helpful advice. I used to manage a 60 unit Senior Apartment building and falling was one of the fears my tenants had in common. I had one woman who prided herself in knowing how to fall without hurting herself. But one problem that was universal - getting back up. If I had seen this back then, I would have used this video as a training film to show my tenants how they could confidently help themselves. Thank you so much for doing this. It’s perfect! Well done!
i actually taught an 85 year old man (who had alzheimers) how to do this. Occasionally he would drop and he was quite 'top heavy' I was a private caregiver in his home so no handy props or another employee to help. there was no way i could lift him from the floor - so we actually figured this out together. I told him to look at his cat on the floor - that actually helped
Thanks, This is such an universal problem independent of age. I’m glad you figured a way that worked for you. I finally went to HARBOR FREIGHT and bought a small lift that would get down to floor level, so I could help them to a sitting position on the machine, then let the machine get them up to a sitting chair-height where I could help them to their feet, or transferred to their chair. It was small and on wheels, so I could move it to wherever I needed. I would have regular meetings with my tenants, who were all seniors, and practice with them in a non emergency session, so that they wouldn’t panic in one. It worked! Don’t forget the straps to hold them in place much like a child,’s car seat. The real benefit was, they were no longer afraid they’d ever be helpless on the floor again. They knew there was a way to get them back to their feet or chair. They also were no longer afraid that they would hurt me while helping them.
Once my mother fell and couldn’t get up all night long. She lived alone and managed to get up in the morning. She talked and talked about it the next day. I was an ass and didn’t think to the extent that she suffered mental anguish that night. I have such regrets.
So happy I stumbled upon this video. I'm 70. My granddaughter expects me to get up and down as fast as she does - although now at 8, she gets I can't, yet still wants me on the floor with her. With this method, I will be able to get up much faster and easier than I have been able to in years. And I might not mind sitting on the floor with her a little more often now. Yay!
When I was young, I just got up or down. Now, I have been aware that I need to plan how I move. That said, this video is beyond helpful for me! It makes so much sense to use the momentum of my own body, and a bit of spiral geometry, to let me do what I want easily! Thank you so much for these insights!
Yes that’s so true! As a young person you didn’t even think about it, but now you have to seriously plan how to get down, or up, and usually the answer is Nope! I can’t do it! But this really works!
Thank you so much for doing this video! In my 30 year career as a fire fighter, one of my favorite type of emergencies was helping someone get off the floor. We arrived and made a difference instantly. Very gratifying, but I theorize that chairs are to blame for this inability to get off the floor. If we practice sitting on the floor we will retain the ability to get up much longer I think. My dog loves it when I sit on the floor also.
Yes. You have a first hand view. This can be a useful way to coach people after a fall, of they aren't serious injured as well. I agree about chairs. Other cultures are getting up and down until quite old. Chairs have not necessarily been our friends.
I'm 64. A year ago I started sleeping on the floor. I bought a handmade futon and is extremely comfortable. It's been very very helpful for me to have to get up and down off the floor several times a day. Last week my daughter and I went to the van Gogh immersion and we sat on the floor. when we got up she's very happy to see how quickly I did it.
@@janelmirendah9755 i slept on a futon on the floor my entire life until i was 55 - i also ALWAYS sat on the floor, it was more comfortable for my back because i have a spine curve . . . Unfortuntately that all went out the window when i had an accident that resulted in head injury, permanent concussion syndrome and ripped every ligament in my knee. I wish i could sit on the floor crosslegged still - my body hurts all the time. But due to the injuries , i am really compromised for getting up from the floor safely - and yes - i've been in therapy for years and it hasn't helped - - - i'm always looking for something I DO AGREE about the chair thing, there is not one on the planet i am comfortable in.
I'm an active 68 yr old however this summer I was working in the garden and found myself stuck on the ground! I got down but could not get up. I simply could not push myself up and I was home alone. My brain said "get up" but nothing happened. This was not only appalling but a bit alarming. There I was. Pondering my next move when your demonstration of The Spiral movement came to mind. I visualized ( imagined) the movement as you taught it. This lovely movement got my butt up and I enjoyed the springy feeling of grace that is part of it. Thank you so much for your educational and practical videos.:) Its easy to lose confidence in your own body as you age, but there ARE ways to deal with that. Got my hubby involved with your techniques, too. He sends his thanks as well..
Wow. When you needed it, it was there! That's great. Thanks for watching, commenting and sharing with your hubby too. Also watch for my new video series this week. Subscribe it you haven't so you get notified.
My god, it's not just me thank goodness. I tumbled in the garden with 2 new knees and was stuck. I just couldn't get up. Me, a 62 year old ex yoga lover. I sat there alarmed, calmed myself and shuffled until I was able to somehow pull myself up using a nearby tree. A terrifying thought.
As a 55 yr old cancer survivor and sole caregiver for my lively 85 year old parent who has dementia, thank you so very much for sharing this detailed kinesthetic information to practice *before* any falls. We’ll both be practicing, Insha’Allah.
I fell outside and my wife and I struggled for over a half hour to return me to my feet. IT took firefighters arriving to accomplish this. I plan on practicing these moves because, as karma oftentimes demonstrates, once you learn something new, the odds of having to use it dramatically decrease. Thank you so much for this video. !I am now subscribed.
Thank you for posting this!!! I just tried it, and even at my age of 72 AND a recovering knee replacement patient, it went great, even the very first time. Thanks again.
My grandma had recently fell and it took her about an hour to get up. This is sad and not easy to imagine for someone who moves normaly. Thank you for working for those who cannot.
This is super! I'm 67+ yo and find it a little more difficult getting up and down from the floor. As I have to work sitting on the floor sometimes given my limited workspace at home I've found it a bit challenging getting up and down, which I do frequently. This really helps a lot! It's also a safer way to move with osteoporosis so that I don't risk falling and fracturing my pelvis. Thank you so much! Jenny
After 30 years being overweight and then losing over a 170 pounds I realized I no longer had any clue on how to get down to the floor to sit or get up off the floor. I honestly thought I could lose weight and then I could do all the things I couldn’t do because of my weight. Thank You so much for doing this video.
Like to say congratulations on your weight loss. I fell down this week & my daughter & husband picked me up. I joined WW & started exercising. Sit & be Fit is my best friend. After watching this video I can get up by myself. I’m 63. Once again congratulations on your weight loss. 👏
@@car2029 thank you so much for your kind words. Wishing you all the best on your journey with WW. I’ve falling a few times in the last few years and needed help every time. I worry about it I fall and no one is there to help.
@@sheila2212 yes that’s why I’m trying to exercise to increase strength & stamina. I fell one time no one around & I inched my way to sofa & managed to get up eventually. Thank goodness I didn’t break anything ugh so scary.
You are really excellent at explaining these things. Your voice is clear and your instructions are precise and well described. Thank you so much for this , what I think unique way , of Getting up and down. Thank you
This is GREAT instruction! At 71 and very inactive for the past 2 years (since COVID) and 2 knee replacements, my mobility in getting up and down from the floor has been really awful. In fact, I just never do it if it can be avoided. Yesterday, taking my granddaughter to an activity, I needed to get down on the floor and couldn't without assistance! I found your video today and am practicing it with delight! Thanks so much!
This is so necessary for everyone over the age of 40. I am so glad I found this. I have two artificial knees and braces metal braces in my wrists I need this so badly thank you so much for this
🔵 I was a professional body worker for a bit over 24 years and used to teach things like this to my elder clientele who were not confident that they could get up off the floor if they found themselves there. It's really great that this knowledge can now be more easily discovered by a wider range of people because of the internet,... which of course wasn't around yet when I was doing it back in the 70's and 80's,.....Thank you!
Iam 95 and managed by much trying on my own to find this way to get up from the floor after my stretching Exercises on floor. I have exercised most days of my life. My weight has been around 50-53 kg since I was 14 years old!
THANK YOU!!! At last someone talking sense, and not ridiculous advice by someone so young they can not possibly know what it is like not to beable to get up from the floor
I'm a 5'2" senior and overweight. I have a lot of trouble getting up and down from the floor. I'm so excited to see this and I can't wait to get started learning. THANK YOU
@@chowmikki Lots of fat shaming in your comment. You could edit that out and just leave the encouraging parts and it would be worthwhile. Unfortunately it's just another toxic virtue signal. i'd rather be overweight.
It's amazing how intuition works! I'm 67 years old and obviously have been having difficulties getting up from a sitting down on the floor position as I grew older, but I figured out how to do this manoeuvre without anyone showing me. It is true that we have all the solutions inside of us. We just lost the ability to retrieve what's inside of us because there's too much noise going on. Having said that, thanks for showing other people how to manage their difficulties as they grow older, something that many of us take for granted.
In all the physical therapy sessions, sitting and rising was never addressed after knee replacements. I am so grateful for this video, so I can try to do these moves and make them become ingrained in my brain. Just last week, it took me 15 minutes to get out of the bathtub from a seated position. It's scary and painful when I kneel, because my flesh gets the brunt of my body weight, and the artificial components of the knee replacement are not forgiving to tender flesh, blood, and nerves. Bless you for your advice and video.
I’ve been doing this since I had my spine fused in 2018. Helps that I have been doing yoga for 25 years. No instruction needed. Instinct. From the floor, turn, hands and knees, into downward dog, walk backward with my hands. Roll up. Both hips have also been replaced, arthritic knees and feet. I am pretty flexible considering all I’ve been through. Even if I had the quad and core strength to push up from a squat, my downward dog method is much safer and easier on my knees.
Thank you for giving us a dignified option to rise from the floor. I have bad knees and always worried about falling in public and being able to get back up without looking ridiculous.
Thankfully I have never fallen in public, but did enough at home. One day I took mail out when my husband was still sleeping. I fell in a huge snow drift and took a good ten minutes to get to the doorbell and ring it with my cane. He had to drag me inside and another 15+ minutes before I was on my feet again. I have fake knees and they are something you want to kneel on for sure. I am thrilled to see this video!!!
I feel your fear. I fell last year at the entrance to a grocery store. I was looking at something, and someone put (of all things) a "safety cone" and I turned around and fell over the darn thing. Right on my face. Cracked a tooth. From then on, I try to be more cautious and make sure I know my surroundings front, back and sides. Aw, the golden years.
I don't understand how someone with bad knees could use this method. I cannot bend my knees nor pivot on my legs without excruciating pain. Any tips for me?
@@Futurelifenow I fallen 3 or 4 in public places every one has been very helpful BUT I wish sometimes I could lie there for a couple of minutes before being helped to my feet. Just to recover a little and check I've not damaged more than my knees and my dignity!
I have been trying to find a way to stand up and not look like I'm crawling. This was awesome. (I can't believe I am old now and need this video but I feel so much better knowing this practice.)
I’m so glad this video showed up in my feed! I’m 73 and I’ve been avoiding sitting on the floor because it was so awkward getting down and up again. Now it’s easy and quick.
My 76 yr old sister has multiple physical issues~ a fx ankle from yrs ago never repaired, she's obese and now walks with two arm braced crutches; she also has knees that, due to obesity, are very fragile and give out on her suddenly. Dear Cynthia, thank you for your enlighting video! After a car accident I can't get to the floor and back, but with your tips i think I can make that possible. From The Netherlands: a warm thank you!
I can't express sufficiently how wonderful this video is. I have no kneecaps, bilateral knee joint replacements, RA and arthritis. I'm paralyzed with fear of falling as I've had issues since in my late 40s and am now 70yo. Have watched this with my boyfriend so he can help me without injuring himself. Six years ago I was alone at my cabin and fell as a result of a stroke and heart attack (pre boyfriend). This occurred on a Tuesday night and wasn't found until Friday afternoon. My delirium, confusion, broken collarbone and broken foot kept me from having anything but muddled thinking, no concept of time or ability to reason about getting help. I remember just little snatches, like pictures, during the 3 days and would have died if not found. Fortunately for me I'd missed being at a prearranged pickup point to get my twin granddaughters for the weekend. I spent 11 days in the hospital as my organs had started shutting down and I couldn't communicate at all for a while. Fully recovered except for the fear.
Thanks for sharing your journey. Take your time practicing this many times from your bed and your sofa and you will gradually reduce your fear. Goodluck!
OMG. I feel your pain. Just last month I fell for no reason at all, and nearly broke my pelvis. Now I know what they mean when they say, "90% of all accidents happen in the home." For what it's worth, please keep your weight down, try and exercise... even if its just walking, AND KEEP MOVING. Don't let the fear get you down. Bless you, and stay well.
I had total knee replacement 3 months ago. I am 74 years old. Still stiff however strong. This video is so helpful giving fine points to process of getting off the floor.
I'm 76, and this has been a real worry for a long time. Thank you so much. I'vw saved your video to y play list, and will practice until I can get up off the floor without fear .
I'm 74 but still quite fit aerobically, running and walking more than 100 miles a month. These Feldenkrais movements are still very useful however. They help us use reducing strength and mobility to best advantage. Thank you!!
Where have you been all my life? My knees have been so bad that the only way I got on the floor was when I fell. And then I couldn’t get up! Thank you so much!
I had 2 knee replacements this winter and have not yet attempted the whole floor thing. I can't tell you how happy I am to have stumbled upon this video. You make it look easy and more importantly, graceful! That's one word that no one ever said about my up and down skills even before having the knees done! Thanks!
This is the most instructive video i have ever seen. Her explanations of the body kinetics in doing the Spiral are so easy to follow and just fantastic! I am now freed of the fears of falling in public spaces and not being able to regain my standing position. Thank you so much!
This was very helpful. Thank you very much. I'm 75, and thanks to virus after-effects (July '20), I am now a "fall risk" according to my doctor and the hospital, so this was extremely helpful for me! Getting up is hard, because my legs hav so little strength. I will be looking for more of these teaching videos. Thank you again. C David

I'm 68 and falling constantly. Always depended on my adult son or EMS to help me off the floor. I will be practicing this move to help myself. Thank you for posting.
I'm 72 and I practice getting up off the floor regularly just to prove to myself I'm still able, but using your tutorial makes getting up more graceful. Thank you! I'm gonna practice because I noticed I'm using muscles I haven't used in a while. LOL
Bless you. You may say it for a different reason but I like how you say …watch the hand. To me, it’s a recipe…a focus point, marching orders, I get centered. Watch the hand. I’ve had several I’ve Fallen And Can’t Get Up. My tools are Little Giant four Step Stool. I use it bedside, it’s remarkably stable, I can get on first rubberized step, and go up in successive steps. I leave it open and put plants and books. Other tool is rubberized shelf liner. I have wood floors like you. With a bum foot with no flex, I could slip. Butt scootch over to your potted plant…find a length of rubbery shelf paper right there where I left it. I have it in every room, about placemat length. Bless you for posting. This would be an ice breaker at parties….instead of cards and board games…practice getting up and down. Grab bars are not just for bathrooms, remember. Install on door frame, use the door knob as a handle. Necessity is a great teacher. I had gotten on the kitchen floor, the chair I brought with me, wasn't helping. I butt scooched to the basement door. Oh….steps, feet flat on top step…may as well use this handrail while I'm here.
I watched this two months or so ago. Recently I was sitting at a beach in Hawaii, and I . used this method to get up. It worked brilliantly!!! I was thinking my daughter and friend were going to have to help me up. No Help at all. I did it all by myself. I have walking difficulties right now. Thank you. 😁
All of a sudden and I find myself aged 70! The worry about a fall and righting myself is now ever present. I did have a tumble in the garden luckily without incident and stood up under the assistance of all the adrenalin that was flowing. With your excellent instruction I already feel happier and will try by practice the procedure and be better prepared. Thank you.
I tried this….it was amazing! Normally I thump down onto the floor, and getting up involves a lot of grunting and groaning….this method allowed me to execute the movements without making a noise! 👍👏
Older people often do NOT realize how much muscle tissue they've lost until they find themselves down and try to get up. I would suggest practicing those methods she demonstrates so they will become familiar when your mind is stressed when you're down in an uncomfortable position! Thank you for the very helpful video!
@@Futurelifenow I've heard that Jack LaLane used to tell people to get on the floor and get up ten times a day. But it was scary doing this the first time. It worked. It's a lot less embarrassing than my old method.

I have endured total knee replace on both knees. The physical therapist taught how to go down and get up after the left was replaced. Then came the second total knee replacement. I was never taught properly how to get up and down by physical therapist after the right knee was replaced. Thank you for this well thought out demonstration. It is greatly appreciated.
that is so great... fell some years ago and hurt my knee, no longer able to kneel to get up... this has been such a good process to learn... thanks again.
I am still in my 40s yet have mobility challenges due to dual ankle injuries. This information is extremely helpful. And as a former dancer I can attest that it is the optimal way to avoid injury. Now I can get down upon and up from my beloved Pilates mat safely. Thank you!
Thank you for making this video. As a plus size person and someone that is getting older this is very helpful. My father had a stroke at 79 and lost a lot of use to his left size which he was left side dominant. In his first year post stroke he fell at least a dozen times. PT taught us how to get up from the floor but used the technique of getting to your hands and knees. Not easy or painless for someone with limited mobility or excess weight. Your technique, I believe, will help me for years to come. I will be sharing your video on FB to all my friends and family.
I just turned 65 and although my mind says I'm 25 boy is my body telling me different! Getting off the floor is impossible! I can't thank you enough for this information. It's a life changer!
Thank you very very much for this very very helpful video. I will be putting these movements to use later today! This is my first time noticing your channel, but I just finished subscribing. Great information!!
I practice Yoga every morning. This is very helpful for us 60+ to get up and down. I am sharing with my whole group. Thanks a lot for the lovely presentation.
Everyone getting knee replacement needs to see this video. I had to get down to the floor, which went ok. Then wasn't able to put pressure on my knee's and was stuck there! OMG - very scary! I grabbed a chair, sandwiched myself between cupboards in the kichen and somehow got up! This video is awesome and I will start doing this as an exercise everyday until I master it! Thank you for the instruction❤
This is so helpful. I'm 74 and struggle to get on the floor and struggle even more to get up from the floor. This looks logically right. It also manages to look graceful. I will practice this. Thank you. Subscribed.
Thank you! Since having a stroke 5 mos. ago, I've had occassion to need to get up from the floor after a fall... While I'll start practicing from the sitting position, I hope I remember the "from the floor spiral" steps to get myself back up from the floor...if it happens again. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for this, Cynthia!💖 I was taught how to get up given my movement difficulties/relearning to walk after my 2nd brain surgery/1st rehab. But after my 3rd brain surgery/2nd rehab spasticity and contractures have made everything much harder! I was a few sessions shy of completing rehab when Covid hit, and never got to learn a new way to get up again with these limitations. Working on my strength again, and I look forward to practicing this with my partner. Seeing this, I now remember using such a move naturally long before, but Movement trainers such as yourself are a blessing! It's easy to take your body for granted until it happens to you! 😮
Thank you very much for making this video. This is very helpful for seniors. Safety and mobility are important for this age group. Much appreciated🙏🙏🙏🙏God blessed every body😇😇😇😇
I am 64 and disabled and one problem I have is getting up off the floor. Thank you so much for showing this. Now I can use this procedure to get up. I have had to crawl to a chair or to the sofa to get up with in the past.
The pronciple here, apart from all the twisting, is that she doesn’t try to lift her entire body weight at once. She uses the floor as support while she lifts the weight of her upper legs and hips first. A similar principle applies to those who need a cane or walker to stand. I discovered this when I had a temporary disability which required use of a walker, then a cane, to stand. I learned how to get up from the floor using only my assistive device before going outside.
@@carolmilligan3259 - If you used a cane, you might be able to get up using just the cane. It depends on how much overweight you are and what your strength is, though.
This is easy for her but I'm 70 and weigh 300 pounds. I was in the hospital recently due to a severe infection in my legs that got into my bloodstream affecting the use of my arms and legs after being in the hospital then rehab I cannot do either of these. I walk with a rolling walker and cant use my cane yet. Climbing up and down the stairs is extremely frustrating for me because I cant do it alone I have to have someone carry my Walker up and dowd. I want to get my independance back. Before I got sick I use to go for a daily walk every day for 30 minutes or more.
I am so glad that UA-cam recommended this video! I'm only 54 but I already have a hard time getting up off of the floor and off the sofa. This will be a huge help!
My friend, I feel ya! Recovering from a shattered knee cap, same age as you... Thinking I can reverse the spiral, gonna have to work it through and see, but what an inspirational lesson!!
Thank you :-) I have recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have two crushed vertebrae in my back so am having a lot of difficulty with movement. I will practice these techniques. Thanks again and have a great day ! 🙂
Thank you so much for this video, this is the ony one where you don't have to get on your knees. as a very overweight person it is extremely painful to get on my knees, also your explenation of what to do with "the other" foot is good. I am going to practise this way of standing up.
At 87 and having a fall recently I had difficulty getting up and stressed the muscles in my chest and upper arms which were very tender for a couple of weeks. This method resembles my getting out of a deep bathtub in the past, but had not applied nor exercised recently.. My wrists are particularly sensitive so the fist tip will be tried.. I've saved video this to cast to my TV so I can see and watch near my footstool first. Thank You
Thank you soooooo much for this video. I'm 62 and always seem to be sitting on the floor/ground. Nobody can understand why but I just find it more comfortable being on the ground with legs crossed (yoga style I guess). My execution in getting up however is quite comical and no doubt dangerous for me. I will be practicing your movements and can't wait to stun everyone next time we're at the park or gardens with my new up execution. Bless you x
This is priceless information. I had fallen at work badly a couple of times due to bad carpeting and have gone at 58 from being very active to not being able to get up on a stool or chair. If I end up on the floor it's difficult to get up again and I usually shuffle myself up to some furniture and haul myself up with my arms and shoulder strength which are still good luckily. But it is so frustrating when I want to change a lightbulb or want something from a high cupboard to have to get the ladder out. My right knee can't have any weight on it and the left only a very small amount. I had been thinking about doing Yoga or Pilates as I need to lose some weight but both have things you need to do on the ground which put them out of reach for me. Gardening has also been much harder too. Maybe I will start to sit on the floor again more now and practice your way. Thank you very much for this.
I very much appreciate the simplistic and thorough explanation/ demonstration on using this method of being able to help myself to get up off the floor, or to get down on the floor! Thank you.
Can be a great exercise! Going through these motions to get down and then up off the floor several times makes a great full body exercise. I like to get up and down using the left foot and then again using my right foot. I'm 60 and do not have problems getting up and down yet and I'm sure doing these exercises will keep me that way. When did this happen. I’m watching a video on how to stand up and I appreciate the info and can’t wait to try it. I was 18 years old just last week. Now I’m 72.
Barry, you still look marvelous and not a day over 62 1/2. (Remember when that 1/2 meant everything?!?)
Not long ago, I was square dancing. Not any more, unfortunately.
Yes age is very sneaky isn't it?
@@scrapbagstudios life is but a vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes. So true.
I thought it would take 200 years to be old when I was 18 because it took almost forever to become 18.
This 75 year old grandfather who loves to play on the floor with his 2 year old grandson REALLY thanks you for this! :)
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Thank you.
Hi how are you doing?
I saw a lot of Feldenkrais videos, Cynthia is so nice, the smile never leaves her face. I was happy to attend her classes. Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you, even if it's just virtual
You are most welcome!
It's so weird that this becomes an issue as we age. We just don't bounce like we used to. I appreciate this.
Thank you.
I'm glad to weren't injured.
True. We have to keep working with it.
Very well demonstrated!
Thank you so much. I am glad you find it to be of high quality. 🙂
The presentation is very good both in purpose and demonstrable ways of a person with reasonable mobility in most imbs could use.
However the most relevant one is the elderly with limited mobility and insufficient strength to raise themselves on to one arm or to sit up especially after the Trauma of a fall when the first thought is,
"What have I Broken" or
**** Not Again!
The sheep on its back has nothing on an Octogenarian flaying about on the floor trying to get some purchase somewhere.
This is not a criticism only an observation.
From one who knows because he has had a few falls in the past year or so.

I'm so pleased for you! Yippee!!
This is my favorite way of doing it after watching several other videos with different methods. Thank you!!
Great to hear! You're welcome Carl.
I'm 92 so I really needed to know how to get up from a fall, I really appreciate this Demo. Thank you , I certainly will practice it.
Your very welcome.
Well done!
Yes. You and your tenants are the reason this video is needed!
i actually taught an 85 year old man (who had alzheimers) how to do this.
Frank I think we should make videos of us attempting the spirals
Once my mother fell and couldn’t get up all night long. She lived alone and managed to get up in the morning. She talked and talked about it the next day. I was an ass and didn’t think to the extent that she suffered mental anguish that night. I have such regrets.
So happy I stumbled upon this video. I'm 70. My granddaughter expects me to get up and down as fast as she does - although now at 8, she gets I can't, yet still wants me on the floor with her. With this method, I will be able to get up much faster and easier than I have been able to in years. And I might not mind sitting on the floor with her a little more often now. Yay!
Yippee!
As a retired registered nurse, this is possibly the most useful UA-cam video I have ever seen! Liked and subscribed!
I accept the compliment!
When I was young, I just got up or down. Now, I have been aware that I need to plan how I move. That said, this video is beyond helpful for me! It makes so much sense to use the momentum of my own body, and a bit of spiral geometry, to let me do what I want easily! Thank you so much for these insights!
It does make sense doesn't it! Glad it is useful for you Dave
Yes that’s so true! As a young person you didn’t even think about it, but now you have to seriously plan how to get down, or up, and usually the answer is Nope! I can’t do it! But this really works!
It sure sneaks up on you too.

Wonderful!
You're very welcome!
That's great that you have a way that works for you!
My daughter is disabled in one leg, this doesn't work for everyone. I was so anxious to have her view this. Thank you, it works for me.

Thank you for giving us a dignified option to rise from the floor. I have bad knees and always worried about falling in public and being able to get back up without looking ridiculous.
You are so welcome!

Goodluck!

Oh….steps, feet flat on top step…may as well use this handrail while I'm here.

I learned this from a Feldenkrais physical therapist. Great technique, thanks for the reminder and demo!
@@deborahminess4668 glad you had a good teacher.
Glad you are finding it useful.
that is so great... fell some years ago and hurt my knee, no longer able to kneel to get up... this has been such a good process to learn... thanks again.
Glad you like it!
THANK YOU! recovering from knee replacement, trying to get back to my yoga mat, and this is most helpful!
Glad to hear it.
I am still in my 40s yet have mobility challenges due to dual ankle injuries. This information is extremely helpful. And as a former dancer I can attest that it is the optimal way to avoid injury. Now I can get down upon and up from my beloved Pilates mat safely. Thank you!
You are most welcome!
Glad you like it!
I just turned 65 and although my mind says I'm 25 boy is my body telling me different! Getting off the floor is impossible! I can't thank you enough for this information. It's a life changer!
start stretching! en yin yoga, just softly and you will be amazed
Glad you enjoyed it!
I do appreciate the wonderful information enclosed in your articles and video's. Great! Thank You!
You're very welcome!
Thank you very very much for this very very helpful video. I will be putting these movements to use later today! This is my first time noticing your channel, but I just finished subscribing. Great information!!
Welcome to Futurelife now! Thank you for subscribing Jimmy.
I practice Yoga every morning. This is very helpful for us 60+ to get up and down. I am sharing with my whole group. Thanks a lot for the lovely presentation.
I love hearing that!
What a great instructor you are! Thank you so much for these videos! They give me hope!❤️
I'm glad you hear that!
I teach older people yoga and many don't want to go on the floor due to lack of confidence. Will be teaching these techniques, they are fantastic
Glad you will put it to use!
Fabulous application! Keep teaching.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad it was helpful! 🙂
This is so helpful. I'm 74 and struggle to get on the floor and struggle even more to get up from the floor. This looks logically right. It also manages to look graceful. I will practice this. Thank you. Subscribed.
Go Victoria!
Thank you! Since having a stroke 5 mos. ago, I've had occassion to need to get up from the floor after a fall... While I'll start practicing from the sitting position, I hope I remember the "from the floor spiral" steps to get myself back up from the floor...if it happens again. Thank you for posting this.
You're welcome!
Thank you for this, Cynthia!💖
I was taught how to get up given my movement difficulties/relearning to walk after my 2nd brain surgery/1st rehab.
It is true that we take it for granted. I hope the video is of value to you.
I am 58, and I have been suffering from getting up from floor. This technique you taught is very useful for me. Thanks a lot....
This is great to hear! So glad for you.
I used to get up easily. But my ankles are not very strong.
Your my twin
Thank you very much for making this video. This is very helpful for seniors. Safety and mobility are important for this age group. Much appreciated🙏🙏🙏🙏God blessed every body😇😇😇😇
You're very welcome! 🙂
I am 64 and disabled and one problem I have is getting up off the floor. Thank you so much for showing this. Now I can use this procedure to get up. I have had to crawl to a chair or to the sofa to get up with in the past.
You're very welcome! Practice on a raised surface first.
I'm in my late 70s and overweight. Once I get down I can't get up and have to crawl to a chair.
I am in my late 70’s how would you suggest we handle burpees please?
You are absolutely right. You can't easily lift something you are sitting on! Congratulations on your own discoveries. 🙂
I'm a lifelong figure skater, used to be easy to get up of the ice. Once I turned 60, it's very difficult. Thank you for this video
You are welcome. Keep exploring.
I am so glad that UA-cam recommended this video! I'm only 54 but I already have a hard time getting up off of the floor and off the sofa. This will be a huge help!
Glad it was helpful!
Sorry to hear that Karen. Hope you feel better soon through this Video 😊
Thank you so much for this video, this is the ony one where you don't have to get on your knees. as a very overweight person it is extremely painful to get on my knees, also your explenation of what to do with "the other" foot is good. I am going to practise this way of standing up.
You're so welcome! Glad it was helpful! 🙂
Thank You
We hope it was helpful.
Bless you x
Good for you for enjoying the ground. Practice and see what happens!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I'm 78 and this is a life~changer! Thank you!
We are so glad!
I very much appreciate the simplistic and thorough explanation/ demonstration on using this method of being able to help myself to get up off the floor, or to get down on the floor! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Having just had hip replacement surgery, getting up and down has become a challenge. I thank you for this very informative and helpful video!
You are welcome!
thanks so much -i live alone and this is huge for me-im 71 years old!
Glad to help
Can be a great exercise! Going through these motions to get down and then up off the floor several times makes a great full body exercise. I like to get up and down using the left foot and then again using my right foot. I'm 60 and do not have problems getting up and down yet and I'm sure doing these exercises will keep me that way. Thanks for the video!
Glad you like it!
Clear demonstrations right for me. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
This is great i had to learn to walk again even though they said i never will again and worked on my upper body but had trouble getting up from couch and when fell on floor. Now i can get up! Yay. This is better than my stpid hospial physio. Thank you. Im not afraid to be by myself anymote.
