Now I know the best way to answer the "Tell me about yourself" or "Walk me through your resume". As product managers, we need to structure everything we do. After this kind of answer, recruiters will start to know our skills are related to product management.

I was interviewing at a large well-known company and got this question. I started off talking about my degree, then experiences and products I shipped. After the question the interviewer was very aggravated. Their response was "It really shows your priorities that you would mention your degree before talking about actual PM experience. Of course you have a degree. Everyone I have interviewed has a degree. Who cares, you should have told me what you built". They also said university should be one of the last items on the CV. The interview ended after only 15m into a 1h time allotment. Did I dodge a bullet with a crazy interviewer/potential boss, or should one be more careful putting their degree upfront instead of metrics and products?
Wow, that’s a crazy thing! Imagine being completely disqualified because you mentioned your degree at the beginning… imo you dodged a very toxic environment
That’s a good question. In the end, this answer should be concise and to the point - it has to be tailored to the role you are interviewing for so some parts of the experience can be summarized if they don’t directly have a lot of relevance to the role. for example: “.... the next 5 years, at worked at X, Y & Z companies where I learned about (skill 1)& (skill 2). In my next role I....” and continue with the story. You want to make sure your story is as related as possible to the role you are interviewing for

Yes! Start by talking about your experience in engineering and all the skills that you learned that are TRANSFERRABLE into PM :) Don’t focus just on the technical skills - focus on how your 7 years of experience in eng prepared you for a PM role. Does this make sense? Let me know and I can go into details if needed
Well, we are able to listen to audiobooks and watch movies for hours. If someone gets bored after 3 minutes of listening to someone’s story the problem is not the time, it’s the story 😉 5 minutes is, in my opinion, a hard max limit simply because an interview will consist of many questions. Remember, it’s not about time - it’s about how you craft your story ✌️
Does anyone else think these answers are very bland and all sound the same as what everyone else is saying? I would be very bored hearing these responses.

I think 5 minutes is too much, max 1- 2 minutes is what I think, interviewer loose the track and get bored in 3-4 minutes
