She's wrong about the trade routes tho. It was called the trans-saharan trade (between northern Africa and and a small portion of west sub-saharan africa) which the Arabs/muslims dominated. The trade mostly involved s|aves, gold, ivory and salt. The sub-saharan africans didn't have much to do with it.
As an African (Nigerian) it is so refreshing to see a fellow African address the issue of poverty here objectively and accurately. We don't have poverty or development problems because of colonialism but largely because of government corruption, terrible socioeconomic policies (like socialism), poor institutions, and other factors like bad geography. During the independence period from the 50s till the 60s, many post-colonial African leaders made the terrible decisions of abandoning the economic, political and social models left by the Europeans here. They undid things like democratic rule, liberalism, capitalism, property rights, better education standards, and civic nationalism. This was done due to lingering resentment of colonialism and also the rabid indoctrination into leftwing ideology that many of these "leaders" got in higher education. This led to social unrest, economic disruption and loss of life due to corruption and political instability that still hinders Africa to this day. Examples are in Tanzania where Julius Nyere, an avid Marxist-Leninist, began his programs of African socialism (Ujamaa) with good intentions but they ultimately ruined the economy, caused massive poverty, and led to increased authoritarianism in Tanzania. The country only began improving once he stepped down and his policies were undone. Another example is in my own country where after our independence in 1960, we had a brutal civil war and military rule for several decades. Controlled economy replaced our capitalist model and we experienced massive unemployment, poverty, insecurity, increased debt etc. This was all ended once we returned to democratic rule in 99 and onwards. President Obasanjo and subsequent governments liberalized our economy and reformed it via privatization and this led to reducing our national and foreign debt, created many more jobs, and reduced inflation.
good to hear there are progress and good examples.... our western socialist government workers want to see that corruption and all that, coz it gives them power. Is businessperson having time to travel all over africa or other continents? I doubt so, but these people do trips and keep in mind, they are not regular office clerks but higher bosses/supervisors/managers. So keep cautious with them. Democracy and making things better is messy and chaotic and takes time but I see AU and people like you slowly make things better. Unfortunately these western people also spread socialism and gospel of free money to slave them again. They dont want anyone to work in europe either.
India kept the European mechanisms of government, law, etc... in place whilst it buried its head in the sand economically in the 60s-80s. When the cold war ended, they were a little slow to get going, but pretty meteoric since.
By and large, the African people are smart, hardworking, industrious, and have a strong entrepreneurial attitude. It's a shame they have not achieved the success they should have.
Videos of this lady and her information/perspective need to be mandatory in all high schools and colleges. So clearly expressed, without rancor or ideology. Well done, m'am.
Well, a Russian got a black African woman to remove European guilt over colonialism and genocide. The Germans are behind Namibian and Rwandan genocides. Germany colonized Rwanda in the late 1800s, they implemented a policy of indirect rule, governing through the Tutsi elites and treating them as superior to the Hutu. This increased tensions between the groups. When Belgium took control after WW1, they introduced a system of identity cards classifying all Rwandans as Hutu, Tutsi, or Twa. They favored the Tutsi for leadership roles, deepening the divide. They also introduced the Hamitic hypothesis (the racist theory that the Tutsi had European-like features and were naturally superior) After independence in 1962, the Hutu took power and the Tutsi were marginalized and victimized, culminating in the Rwandan genocide in 1994 Let's not forget Belgium and King Leopold's genocide of 10m in Congo, or the French genocide of Algerians (half a million killed by the French)
A week ago I visited Mexico. The immigration into Mexico City was a breeze. Just put your passport on a scanner and a machine issues one a ticket for a 6 month's visit. Ironically enough, the least you want to actually live in a country, the more shit the immigration officials will give you. As if they are doing you a huge favor by letting you spend your money in their country. Bloody bureaucrats hanging on to their jobs because their lives depend on it.

My husband started a business a few years ago, before COVID. He went to register his small business. Day1 finds a long line of people started at 7am to cue for the window to open at 8am. Doesn't even get to the front, and 12 pm the line gets told that it is closed for the day. Day 2, wakes up at 6am, gets there 6:30am, but still a long cue. Same as first, then gets told that they only take 5 applications a day. Day 3, wakes up at 5am, gets into qué at 5:30am. Didn't make the cut off. Day 4, he wakes up at 4:30am, he ques at 5am, he is second person in the que. He finally gets his application through. He had to be in the que at 5am, to a place who is only open at 8am. That is why new small business's are not opening. They are taxed too high, and that is why we are sitting with no job creation.
Facts don't care about your feelings. France and the United States fund coups and support dictators that run their countries in their geopolitical interest. They use these governments to give natural resources and business contracts to Western companies and pay people next to nothing to work there. People having a "can do" positive attitude has no impact on that. This entire comment section is full of politically illiterate morons who know nothing about history and seek to have their feelings validated.

Everything she says makes total sense! I'm amazed at what she is saying. I'm American and have forever tried to figure out why there are so many failures in Africa. So many opinions, and I always hear corruption. I just accepted it that they voted for this, so they are responsible for their actions. I never thought of corruption as a symptom. My father showed the cotton farmers that beekeeping not only increased crop yield but increased the quality of the cotton as well. A double win. Mead(honey wine) was made from the honey and then exported to South Africa. Now the Zimbabwean government is offering billions of dollars to bring us farmers back because the country is suffering mass starvation. I am my father's heir, so I was offered $6.5 million USD and 83 acres of land to return, teach apiculture and farming.

She is an amazing representative of the ideals of freedom for Africa, I hope she gets really far and shares her ideas with as many africans as possible, if they embrace and understand her words, Africa will be great.
Miss Wade is smart, but not nearly as smart as she thinks she is. Listening to her talk you could easily draw the conclusion that Africa is just a stupid place for stupid people plain and simple. I do agree with her when she says that corruption is not Africa's problem but that's simply because corruption is always the symptom never the cause and is a big problem for all third-world countries not just Africa. I don't however, agree that colonialism has nothing to do with the problems of present-day Africa. That is just plain stupid. Miss Wade. Colonialism laid the foundation of inequality and instability and neo-colonialism continues to do the job of colonialism/imperialism via the back door. She acknowledges that Africa was raped tortured and traumatized but then says all Africa needs to do is get over itself and be more entrepreneurial. Really Miss Wade. That simple Huh! Yes, it is true, Africa does need to get over it, but that's much easier said than done. Who just gets over centuries of mass trauma just like that. Africa's Metal Health (not to mention its languages, folkways, and mores) have been decimated making the simple solution that Miss Wade is talking about anything but straightforward. Then she talks about being dissolution with the Left as though the Right has gotten it all figured out (it's so naive). Africa' is not a first-world Western democracy it is still a third-world Western colony, whose problems therefore cannot be so easily resolved simply by applying first-world Western-style political solutions. Certainly not by entrepreneurial ship alone. The deep dark politics will always see to that. Contrary to popular belief, the democratic process has never resolved third-world problems, only first-world ones. In every instance where poor nations have managed to overcome their circumstance, there always is (or was) some form of autocratic governance in play to implement and oversee radical transformation processes through to completion (and only then faze in democracy). Democracies change government every four years rendering the democratic process not fit for purpose. It simply is not robust enough to lift you up from the bottom it is only effective at keeping you on top. Third-world Democracies are too easily manipulated by first-world democracies, that is why first-world democracies are so hostile to third-world dictators when they do not have them in their pockets. These wise intelligent leaders (when sufficiently free of Western interference) have a tendency to get the sort of jobs done that Western-backed leaders only ever play lip service to. But Miss Wade is not entirely clueless, in fact, she is telling many truths and actually makes a great deal of sense (amidst all the nonsense). it's just unfortunate that she oversimplifies everything (whilst trying to sell her book) and fails to grasp the overall complexities that make it so much more difficult for Africa to rise.
@@JeffMTX it is fighting him. The current plan is to stop inflation (because he can do that without the congress) and make that proof that Milei's ideas can work. Every single one of his laws have been rejected, but that sort of plays in his favor, it is proof that the political caste is against him (that discourse was what helped him get into power) Since his arrival as president, monthly inflation has been falling around 5 points each month. 1st month it as 25%, second month 20 something, now it is lower than 15, and it is expected to be gone in a couple of months. It has been hard both for him and for the people, the many macroeconomic irregularities left by the previous government are not easy to fix, but everything is going according to plan and his popularity has risen. Argentina will definitely get better in a year, but once Milei has a Majority in congress, it will get A LOT better in just a few years. Congress elections are next year, it seems like he will win then.
I read a book called Secondhand Time. It is a collection of letters by people living in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was interesting. Thoughts about the before and after were varied. Some looked optimistically about what they could now do without being under a boot. Others, were “institutionalized” like Shawshank Redemption-going from a system that was understood to one that was not. Eg: Yes, I had to wait in line to get bread and they were usually out before I got there, but before I knew I had to go stand in that line. Now, how do I get bread? Which line do I stand in? If corruption is what you know, free market entrepreneurial systems can seem very foreign and even scary insomuch as the unknown can be scary. And yes, it is difficult to get people in power to change a system that directly benefits the powerful.

Magatte has absolutely nailed the root cause of poverty. Stop the focus on the symptoms and get to the heart of over regulated systems. Laws matter and it sounds like you’ve an excellent enterprise to raise millions of young Africans out of poverty.
Being South African the speaker missed a very vital point: Africa exports raw materials at low cost in bulk and imports finished packaged and branded bulk products at highly inflated prices.. We need processing industries in Africa and stop exporting raw but switch to exporting finished and branded products, that's how all African countries will change their fortunes.
But who is in charge of those raw materials? Who owns the mines? Who owns the land? Not Africans. Oppenheimer, Rupert etc. In Botswana, De Beers own their mines. There is a lot that colonialism has done that affects us today
But we used to have manufacturing industries in South Africa: steel, textiles are just two. And the govt owns the land, only 20% of arable land belongs to white farmers - check your facts. All gone now, and our mines owned by BBEEE funded by Chinese and other foreigners. Its not colonialism that caused that but lazy greedy politicians who sold lies to the poor and whose cronies now ride the gravy train
U speak as if u know about Hong Kong but u cab scare spell the word. HK under British rule was a colonial possession of territory that did not belong to them. The British could not pay for their tea and trinkets and introduced opium as a means of settlement. How disgusting. The Chinese authorities rebelled against this and burnt several shipments of opium but were brutally crushed militarily. So do some research before you come up with some lazy straight jacket beliefs that you have been fed by the corporate controlled Western press. During the 99 year occupation of HK, British institutions of learning brainwashed the youth into believing that they deserve a democracy and human rights. How ironic that a colonial power that enslaved most of Africa and put its indigenous populations who refused to work in hideous concentration camps and enriched themselves on the misery of others should now preach democracy and human rights to others. Get your head out of the sand and make an attempt to understand real issues instead of the ignorant and superficial views you express on social media. Freedom of expression is a wonderful concept until it givess credibility to idiots. A law should be passed that your IQ be engraved on your forehead and displayed before you are allowed to comment on social media.
giving China-Hong Kong as an example is poor choice you could just give China itself as an example under Mao etc China was extremely poor it continued to be poor till Deng Xiaoping under his rule he emraced some capitalist ideas and made economic zones thanks to him China is now middle income country so bcz of him hundreds of millions Chinese people was finally able to rose up from poverty... similar thing can be said Cuba and Chile both countries installed dictators but Cuba's dictator embraced Marxist-Leninist ideas and you see its results meanwhile Chile's dictator Pinochet embraced capitalist ideas and its results is wenting up from one of the poorest countries of LATAM to the richest not to mention citizens of Chile are visa free to visit or work in USA today so that is another plus for quality of life... even south Korea and north Korea can be used as example both had dictators in their first years north Korea emraced Marxist-Leninist ideas and south Korea embraced capitalist ideas and bcz of it to this very day north Koreans suffers from poverty and dictatorship meanwhile their less resource rich brothers in the south enjoys the life hundreds of times over and have better quality of live all thanks to embracing capitalism by no means im saying capitalism is perfect but it is the very best economic system humans come up with

SO TRUE, SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 AND ZIMBABWE 🇿🇼 ARE IDEAL EXAMPLES OF THIS, BOTH ONCE FLOURISHING NATIONS, COMPLETELY DESTROY BY COMMUNIST CRIMINAL GOVERNMENTS 😑😑😑😑
Exactly, and that's why Communistic styles of Socialism do not work. Because it breeds corruption by growing the government and government overreach into all aspects of society and living. It's happening all over the United States right now. All these garbage social programs that serve no real purpose. Soon we're gonna end up just like Africa if we don't cut it out..... Socialism only works in certain ethnically homogeneous nations. And even then it doesn't always workout well. And with Africa being so poor and uneducated it's easy for people at the top to take advantage. The only place socialism actually worked out really well was Germany in the 1930s. And like I said, it's because it was becoming an ethnically homogeneous nation who only cared for their own and stuck up for their own. That is the only way it works.
This is an excellent video! I just purchased her audio book and look forward to listening to it! 🐆 It is interesting to note that the EU has also enshrined much overregation of employees into law. I saw where a German employer stated that it was virtually impossible to fire a worker once hired which made it easier to muddle through understaffed rather than be saddled with an employee who couldn’t be fired. A second observation is regarding a practice that is common in Africa that has many of the hallmarks of corruption. I refer to the phenomenon whereby whenever a person lands a position of some degree of prestige, they are often pressured by a host of relatives (of various degrees of closeness) for monetary gifts and, more importantly, to work towards obtaining as many positions for these relatives thus short circuiting hiring and promotion opportunities through merit as opposed to influence. Most colonies have had 60+/- years of independence but decades of that have been under a combination of Marxism, dictatorships, and massive corruption at the highest level, much of which entailed the diversion of money from international aid and other governmental funds that would otherwise have improved the lives of average citizens.

Show me one western country that's corruption free, there's absolutely none that's not corrupt, USA is the most corrupt country in the world, yet is one of the most developed country in the world. USA literally used my people as slaves to work on their plantations and industries for 200 years, USA continues exploiting african natural resources nonstop, all the nation in the world ruled by white man is looting african resources nonstop since we got independence.
@veracity africa is underdeveloped because of economic oppression. Africa is poor cuz of violence funded by u europeans, and the looting of natural resources by multinational corporations, majority of the corporations are owned by u europeans, I can say 80% of african resources is controlled by u europeans, when we got independence, you europeans put alot of first african presidents on that sit as a puppets, this people can be defined as a descendant of slave agents, and beneficiaries, the leaders that was trying to used the natural resources for the betterment of his people, they get killed or they get couped, how come that we africans experience coups and u yts don't, the reason is those b@stards are trained during the colonialism, Yr people taught them to kill any african that doesn't succumb to them, u taught them not to protect their people but to abuse them, Yr people taught them not to value their brothers and sisters lives, you taught them not to be patriot. Likewise the police, you peoppe taught the police the same thing, u europeans are behind the oppression, suppression, and the killings of africans all over the continent. You people are the reason why we are poor cuz you keep looting our human resources and natural resources since millennium ago.
Africa is the richest continent in the world in terms of natural resources, and especially minerals like cobalt, zinc and lithium. Africa is also the poorest continent in the world since, since, in places like DRC, The West extracts these resources from African mines for pennies on the dollar. They foment conflict to control access to mines and keep pesky local governments occupied with local militias and constant violence (and the overwhelming majority of small arms comes from The West, the USA being the #1 small arms exporter on the planet)
Hmmm I'm also a Kenyan but I'm not sold on this. To me bad governance is the cause of poverty. Good governance is what will bring the right policies and laws to be implemented. Capitalism breeds corruption! Socialism creates wealth distribution and government funded healthcare and education, look at Cuba healthcare quality, look at how China has defeated poverty and malnutrition! This lady just pushing anti BRICS propaganda
@@vikik7877I agree! Kenya has been virulently capitalist, especially contrasted to Tanzania's socialism in the post colonial period. But the problems of Africa are as present in Kenya as they are everywhere in Africa.

I worked in sub Saharan Africa and i know why Africa is poor , the fact that 5 mins after going to check on the crew on another site i would come back to find the previous crew all asleep.
You do know the average IQs of sub-saharan African countries? The causative factor is genetics - Specifically under-evolved pre-frontal cortex due to archaic proto-hominid ancestry (Homo Erectus/Homo Habilis)
@@PhanTasmGoriAgenetics may be a contributing factor but it's only part of the big picture. Indigenous Australians have the same Denisovan and Neanderthal admixture as Eastern Asia but suffer similar issues as Sub-Saharan Africa. Genetics, diet, culture, climate and long periods (tens of thousands of years) of geological isolation have all contributed to variations in the ability of disparate population groups to thrive in the 21'st Century.
@@stephenbrody2717 you can find average IQ scores by country on the internet. Sub-Saharan African countries are very low. Zimbabwe I think is 68. That would define you in the US as a special needs person.
Saw Magatte Wade on Jordan Peterson. She is based! I live in an African country and we have all major Western countries invest in Mauritius and it's one of the best economy's in the region. And oh we were a former British colony 🤦🏽♀️
Two things can be true at the same time. Your country may be like a super star on a sports team. They can play well and perhaps win the game by themselves. Th ere are players like this in real life. She wants to help the Team, those who potential is being stifled. I'll take potentially biased over fully corrupt.
Not saying the country is perfect, there is a lot of corruption but it's also very easy to set up a business. Tax for a small company is extremely cheap and but large companies have to pay more. We have a thriving tourist industry. The major problem is those, who are from my community creole are never given opportunities to be major players in the county. It's a combination of racism and laziness. I'm lucky my dad moved to the UK back in the 70s, worked his arse off and moved back and we were well off.
@@jennyj0007 Its great Mauritius is doing well. Many of the Asian countries were colonized but most are thriving and developing fast. People also forget European countries were colonized multiple times but various groups. Britain was colonized and enslaved by the Romans, other times by the Vikings, and the French, Islamic empires colonized parts of Europe and others like the Mongols. This is the history of the world. The other thing they didnt talk about is how a lot of African politics and political parties is based around tribes which is a whole other level of corruption.
I am so glad she spoke it. She does it beautifully. I am a European born woman who was raised in Africa. African countries are plagued by the gross corruption of their own exploitative, parasitical govern ments and the socialist mentality foisted upon the people.
There is a corruption in Africa; different governments all over in Africa are responsible for situation Africa is in today. That is true. The question is how those leaders got into the power in Africa? What happened to African nationalists and honest leaders who took over the power after independence? Take a case of Congo. Lumumba was killed by imperialists and replaced by Mobutu, and we know what happened to Congo under Mobutu. When we blame African leaders, are we really blaming African leaders like Lumumba or we are blaming imperialists puppets?
Gets to the heart of the issues and offers practical solutions with a clear roadmap for resolving them. Wish more so-called "thinkers" were like this rather than focusing on performing some mental gymnastics.
This is the second time I have heard this amazing lady. (The first time was in an interview with Jordan Peterson, and she was basically saying the same things.). Margatte is truly amazing! If Africa had 1000 people and minds like her, the continent would not be such a basket case!
Miss Wade makes it sound as though Africa is a stupid place for stupid people. I agree with her when she says that corruption is not Africa's problem because corruption is always the symptom never the cause (as is rampant throughout all third-world countries) but I don't agree that colonialism has nothing to do with it. That is just plain stupid. Colonialism laid the foundation of inequality and instability and neo-colonialism continues to do the job of colonialism via the back door. She acknowledges that Africa was raped tortured and traumatized but then says all Africa needs to do is get over itself. Yes, it is true, Africa does need to get over it, but that's much easier said than done. Who just gets over centuries of mass trauma just like that. Africa's Metal Health (not to mention its languages, folkways, and moray) have been decimated making the simple solution that Miss Wade is talking about anything but straightforward. Then she talks about being dissolution with the Left as though the Right has figured out all the answers (it's so naive). Africa' is not a first-world Western democracy it is still a third-world African colony, whose problems therefore cannot be resolved simply by applying first-world Western-style political solutions. Certainly not as easily as Miss Wade would have us believe.
This video answers so many questions. As a European I have often wondered why Africa always seems to be a place in chaos. Famines, failed states, civil wars, hyper inflation, slavery, genocides, refugees and generally endless poverty. I never could work out why Africa seemed unable to function. I certainly learned some things today.
Most of it is the Soviet Union's fault. It is demonic what was done to them. They used colonialism as an excuse to set up socialist dictatorships, exactly the same thing they accuse the CIA of doing. Communism is evil.
Africa are francophone countries when they shouldn't be look at the borders of africa, it's all wrong, artificially created. The United States and other European countries have a financial hole over that continent.. And not to mention Germany still owns agricultural land and territory in namibia, France still owns territory in their old francophone countries..
When you put a bunch of opposing tribes in a country and tell them to "work together" spells disaster. Not to include the political system where tribes are voting for themselves rather than ideals, makes sense the tribe with larger population always wins the elections and provides benefits to boost their own community and find ways to oppress others.
"Social justice is an actual impediment to acquiring human capital" --Thomas Sowell That applies to Africa as much as it does the modern American university.

As a Cuban, a thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Mrs. Wade brilliantly explained why countries such as mine are poor and miserable. Yet a large portion of the West think it is bc of the US embargo, which goes to show that they don't even know what the embargo is about or even that most food that Cubans eat today comes from the USA. I would like to add that Cuba's political and military intervention of African countries is something you almost never hear about except to be celebrated as "internationalism", without considering the long-term cost it had for Africa.
Oh Please!.. not another person presenting a Straw Man argument. You @SepticFuddy are the one who mentioned slavery I did not. I personally would not even use slavery (as factual as it may be), to make my case. It's too elementary, which is probably why people like yourself use it to make your case. The fact that you even think I'm making a point about slavery just shows that you've completely missed the point altogether. What I take issue with is Miss Wade trying to PLAY DOWN the devastating role colonialism played and still plays on the African continent. Miss Wade seems to be oblivious to the fact that Western governments have a vested interest in keeping Africa, still to this day the richest continent, in poverty. Just let that sink in for a second. The richest continent with the poorest most deprived people. In other words, the people who benefit most from African wealth do not live in Africa. THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT!!!!!! France is not the only Western country profiting by interfering in African affairs. Miss Wade clearly knows this but somehow she still can't quite connect the dots (figure out what it means in real terms). So she runs around shouting from the rooftops that Africa is filled with nothing but a bunch of dummies, which is sad because that clearly is not her intention, but nonetheless, that is the impression that most people are left with. Why do I say this?... ... because It's an easy conclusion to come to if you already have a low opinion of African people, their history, and their culture. Think about it: For every person who knows the truth, that black Africans built the Sphinx and the pyramids etc, there are a hundred people who still believe the centuries of colonial whitewashing, that black Africa has never achieved anything of any historical significance. If you believe that then why wouldn't you believe that Black Africa is essentially full of dumb or simple-minded Black people? If nothing else that would at least explain how a continent can be so rich yet so poor. In short (Miss Wade), when the Western world wants (because it has become dependent upon) what you have got (and already has cheap and easy access to it), being more business-minded is only a small part of the problem you are going to have to solve if you want to give yourself any sort of chance of getting to grips with the real issue.
Africa is an example of why we need to look at current state. Sure, we can talk about how colonialism brought about a lot of the problems we see today. The good, the bad, and the ugly. But what are we going to do about it? We can't go back in time and tell the British empire, "Why don't you try to convince African nations to voluntarily engage in fair trade this time?" Can't do that! But we can say, "Okay, let's take current state Africa and find out what's keeping it from getting better."
@@PhanTasmGoriA Even if this is a factor, the solution is a moral framework (Golden Rule) and education (grammar, logic, rhetoric). Both are achievable if the system was set up properly. Sadly the poorest areas of the world (including "the hood") require a HUGE investment that makes no economical sense to many.

And yet Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, and the USA were all once colonies and are now functioning democracies. Nor was Africa only colonised by the British. And Kenya, which was a British colony does seem to function better than most African countries, even having a tourism industry.
I was told in the early 90s at college whilst studying refrigeration and air conditioning that Africa has three problems Cronyism Nepotism and plain old corruption and that if they ever get it together it could be a literal garden of Eden
Sadly they are still hobbled by feuds between different tribes. On lower levels this can take the form of hiring and promoting members of one’s own tribe. At the extreme levels it can lead to all out genocide as happened between the Tutsis and the Hutus in Rwanda and Burundi in the mid 90’s. Conflict between tribes has been common in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, whereas the rise of radical Islamists across Africa has literally effectively cut some nations in half. Blaming colonialism for Africa’s woes without taking into account the positive impact that it has also had is simply counter factual.
It has been an absolute pleasure to listen to Mrs. Wade, her comprehensive realistic view of the Africa continent, in terms of corruption and why it is still poor today, is the best explanation why we are still dumb in the stupidity of socialism and collectivism mentality; that ruined most undeveloped corrupt countries. #FREE-MARKET= INTREPRENEUR IS THE WAY TO SUCCESS.
100% agree with her, I'm African but not Senegalese, I lived and worked in Senegal. they have sentiment against colonialism thinking it's their main problem. Senegal is very bureaucratic with a lot of red tapes just like other African countries. Our problems are colonialism victimhood and socialist bureaucracy which breed all the corruption as she said. the politicians use the victimhood sentiment to get into office and use the bureaucracy to embezzle public resources and the cycle repeats. I used to have this heated debates with Senegalese at work before their past elections to focus on their systems rather than kicking out France hoping all their issues will disappear but they all overwhelmingly just love the victimhood mentality. I have seen serious currency depreciation in my home country and other more developed African nations and tells them never to try de-pegging CFA from the EURO to a new currency but seek alternative means like crypto but it's too complex they tell me, crypto is a scam they said....so I watch from afar
There is a good argument that Africa before and after the colonial period was more violent and more -for the average person - impoverished. The pre-colonial African empires became powerful by violent conquest and the “trade routes” were primarily for trading slaves. European slave-traders came to Africa because they could easily and cheaply buy slaves from African slavers…… in a slave-trade that existed before most European nations were more than collections of tribes, themselves. The average African was not wealthy… in those empires all the wealth went to the elites. It was the europeans who provided the security and technology to make use of natural resources that benefit no-one without these things.
You do know the average IQs of sub-saharan African countries? The causative factor is genetics - Specifically under-evolved pre-frontal cortex due to archaic proto-hominid ancestry (Homo Erectus/Homo Habilis)
An intelligent, erudite and articulate analysis of the issue. Young lady you are not just beautiful but very in touch with reality. You give us hope that things will improve in Africa.
Now, let's hear about the IMF and how it forces countries to implement neoliberalism and how neoliberalism makes social mobility very difficult or even almost impossible for the working poor and for children who grow up in poverty. And I'd like to learn more about how multinational companies take over natural resources - especially after or during wars and conflicts - and control the corrupt politicians, who are often installed with the support of the West.
Yeah, and that's one thing I did not hear in this conversation while everyone is running around here talking about African Corruptions what they're not talking about is that Western societies have control over Africa period African governments and African leaders. Germany still owns a sloth of a land in agricultural territory, France is still owns many different types of land and Industry in the so-called francophone countries. And the IMF purposely put these people in debt.
What you're saying does not totally contradict her take on excessive market regulations. We could imagine relieving the debt burden AND lifting market barriers.
At a provincial level in Canada, it takes less than one day to set up a business. You go to a business registration office, wait in line for an hour, get your business registered, then drive over to a tax office, wait for about half an hour, get your tax number. Then go to a bank and open a business account in one hour - now you’re ready to work. At a federal level, it takes less than a year. On the contrary, in India, it takes 2 to 4 years to start a business.
I’ve been following a UA-camr called “Itchy Boots” as she’s been travelling Africa by motorcycle. The climate and geological conditions there seem to me to be a farmer’s dream. With good management, Africa could not only feed themselves, but could easily feed the whole world. I can’t understand why such potential is being wasted.
I am an African (Nigerian) i have to tell u the truth, colonialism is not the problem of Africa, to put it simple, the problem is bad leadership (most african leaders are clueless and greedy, have no idea how to lead a country of multiethnic and multicultural people), religion and tribalism. Of course colonialism has it disadvantages on the African continent but tbh, a lot of African tribes won't be existing today if not for the colonial rule because during precolonial times African tribes preyed on other smaller African tribes by cleansing or enslaving them to arabs uninterruptedly long before the transatlantic slave trade began. Colonial masters took control and brought some form of order (not neglecting the many evil and atrocious acts of the colonial masters). My country (nigeria) was so much better (the agricultural and overal economic sector flourished during colonial rule), immediately Nigeria gained independence everything went down hill, sadly greed and wickedness of incompetent leaders was and still is the order of the day. Btw, the arabs did way worse than the Europeans did, but everyone still points fingers at the white man today. It was colonialism that halted the Islamic conquest on africa, if not, who knows maybe the entire west and central africa would be muslim today(not by choice if u know what i mean).

Thank you for sharing
good to hear there are progress and good examples.... our western socialist government workers want to see that corruption and all that, coz it gives them power.
When the cold war ended, they were a little slow to get going, but pretty meteoric since.
the corruption is fomented and encouraged by your colonisers

Not just Africa: The world.
How is Milei doing? Is the bureaucracy fighting him?
@@JeffMTX it is fighting him. The current plan is to stop inflation (because he can do that without the congress) and make that proof that Milei's ideas can work. Every single one of his laws have been rejected, but that sort of plays in his favor, it is proof that the political caste is against him (that discourse was what helped him get into power)
Since his arrival as president, monthly inflation has been falling around 5 points each month.
I agree that once corruption becomes part of the culture, it is extremely hard to get rid of it.

Great discussion! Thank you. Magatte Wade: Brilliant, bold, AND beautiful! Best wishes!
She's right. Look at the difference between Hong Cong under the British and Hong Kong under Chinese rule.

It is interesting to note that the EU has also enshrined much overregation of employees into law.

They also introduced the Hamitic hypothesis (the racist theory that the Tutsi had European-like features and were naturally superior)
After independence in 1962, the Hutu took power and the Tutsi were marginalized and victimized, culminating in the Rwandan genocide in 1994
Let's not forget Belgium and King Leopold's genocide of 10m in Congo, or the French genocide of Algerians (half a million killed by the French)

Miss Wade is spot on ! thank you for this interview!

Magatte is very impressive.
Complex continent hence complex solution.
The bell curve.

Nothing until you bring down the people that still work for the same colonizers
@nodi1217 Really naive aren't you? 😏
@@PhanTasmGoriA Even if this is a factor, the solution is a moral framework (Golden Rule) and education (grammar, logic, rhetoric). Both are achievable if the system was set up properly. Sadly the poorest areas of the world (including "the hood") require a HUGE investment that makes no economical sense to many.
Africa is the richest continent in the world in terms of natural resources, and especially minerals like cobalt, zinc and lithium. Africa is also the poorest continent in the world since, since, in places like DRC, The West extracts these resources from African mines for pennies on the dollar. And yet Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, and the USA were all once colonies and are now functioning democracies. Nor was Africa only colonised by the British. And Kenya, which was a British colony does seem to function better than most African countries, even having a tourism industry.
Absolutely brilliant woman! Never heard of her till now, but she is exactly the type of person Africa needs
She doesn't understand finance at all and it's really painful listening to her speak about policy.
She made an excellent point, too many rules means too much corruption!! They go hand in hand.
I was told in the early 90s at college whilst studying refrigeration and air conditioning that Africa has three problems Cronyism Nepotism and plain old corruption and that if they ever get it together it could be a literal garden of Eden
They have everything; people, resources, land and ecology ! Just get it all together for everyone's benefit.
Absolutely. It can be done
That's it. No matter what system in place if you have all 3 it will fail
Mannnnn I can't wait for this episode! Always hoped Magatte would be on Triggernometry!

When colonialism ended africa seems to have gone back to tribalism and all its negativity.

Neoliberalism = Neosocialism.
Yeah, and that's one thing I did not hear in this conversation while everyone is running around here talking about African Corruptions what they're not talking about is that Western societies have control over Africa period African governments and African leaders.
