I have a question that may seem slightly related to this: Can computers “learn” to make the perfect speedrun? Like... can a computer take past TASes, “learn” from them, and produce an even better TAS?
I'm not 100% sure if this is a joke, but this was done with frame-advance as well which is what made it possible. The enemies move towards you slightly so doing it in real-time with only save states would be rather tedious.
GamerLKP636 with TAS everything that is impossible turns possible, there´s 4 things that you forget about TAS;1:Frame-Advance,2:SlowDowns it allows you to slowdown the game as you prefer,3:SaveStates LoadStates and Re-Records to see what you´re gonna do and re-do it for you don´t make mistakes or fails to make your play PERFECT and 4: you can watch your tool assist speedrun seeing and renderizing it to make a best run than ever! ;)
Sonic jumps quite a bit higher than boshy, and also runs faster. At 5:54 there is a pixel where if you jump (Flip gravity) it will do a screen transition on the same frame while sonic is touching the ceiling without being killed by the spike. When this happens you are pushed into the block on the next screen which allows you to exit the maze at an "undefined" position. This causes the game to do a screen transition without changing your current position, allowing you to fall out of the maze. E.G. You are entering the previous screen at X:0 Y:25, and instead of doing a screen transition + Teleport to a flipped X/Y coordinate like usual, it only does a screen transition since the position you are entering from is not defined. This leaves you at previous screen at X:0 Y:25, rather than moving the X coordinate to the right side of the screen like usual. This is my understanding at least, I haven't asked solgryn about it.
There's a few frames between his spinning animation and standing animation where his feet are off the ground and you can simply walk under them or let him move over you.
I needed to hit the switch in order to skip all of the switches after it. If you skip the first switch you must get the second switch due to a long column of red blocks blocking your way, and it takes longer to get to the second switch.
I was just curious why xwidghet didn't skip that screen. I did have a feeling there was some detail that saved more time, it is a TAS after all. Every millisecond counts.
I wanted to have the run be sonic only, but because the snake section is literally impossible for him I had to do one character change to complete the run. But, the current version of hourglass does not support mouse input and it will not allow you to do it yourself when the run is being played back. This makes character changes impossible to tas, along with disabling the use of a saving through walls glitch. To complete the run I had to do the character changes non-tas, and splice them in.

It's just that when you combine frame-perfect input accuracy with sonic's faster than normal running and higher jumps the game can be completed very quickly.
As far as TAS's go, this one, while it looks impressive, is actually poorly optimized. Could have shaved off a lot of frames by manipulating the RNG on Missingno, both in spawning him and especially his attacks. Also could have shaved frames using the world 4 save skip trick, as well as the Ganon dev button to freeze him in place. Also, if dying isn't an issue for the run, if you had died to Biollante, it would have skipped the tune at the end and save more time. Probably could have made a sub 19 run with those skips. I was impressed by the phase 2 SolGryn skip though, and overall it was a good run. Kudos for doing it and putting it up on the UA-cams for us to enjoy.
All characters you can play as retain Boshy's hitbox, and for a few frames Ryu's foot goes higher off the ground leaving just enough space to stay underneath and not get touched.
By delaying the start of the boss battle (When you press S to skip) even one frame the attacks that are used by random bosses change quite a bit. With missingno the best attacks would be to have a recover followed by wrap/splash. I was recently told that if you die after missingno dies the game still continues, so I may re-tas this section to try and defeat it in two-three attacks. I'm not sure if missingno can use the same attack multiple times, but I'll probably test it if I re-tas it.
Dude, u have to recreate this run with new-found tech. Unless it was already found and Sonic can't do it and I don't know stuff. People are flipping about recent 22 run, we need this new run 😃

Very entertaining TAS, this must have been so much fun to make! How many frames long is it? I've been playing this game blind on stream for about a couple weeks now, and I have to say this might be the hardest and most addicting game I've ever played. IrelandofEndor is the guy who discovered the world 4 skip, and he says he found it by watching me play, because apparently I almost got it by accident in my blind playthrough. Go figure. =P

I didn't know how to manipulate his rng at the time I made this (double cut scene). My newer non-sonic run does do rng manipulation to get recovery and kill him before it ends.
But Sonic% is best run. Re-do this one with a godly missingno and get that record, man. Wix did a Sonic% run. Took, like, a bunch of hours. He has WR because noone else has ever run it.
You need to be on Windows XP, or else the game will not start with hourglass. I have details about running boshy in hourglass and the problems you may run into at the bottom of the video description.

Yes, when using Sonic the Cobrat doesn't behave correctly making the segment impossible without a glitch. The glitch involves grabbing the window to make the game lag, and using that to shoot bullets through blocks to save jump. However, Hourglass doesn't support this so I was unable to progress without switching to Boshy.
This is weird glitch that happens somehow with character switching (from Korean Speedrun he just changed character near 9th boss and came to teleporter room) Also with Sonic you can go behind Ryu, double jump and big hadouken wouldn't hit you and you can successfully spam him from behind
TAS is the best speedrunner of all time. He WRs on every damn game I look up.
