    I love all of the video content. I feel like I'm riding along. I wanted to be a truck driver as a kid but realized after getting my license I didn't like sitting in traffic, and now the way some people drive forget about it.

      Right you are. I drove regional for a now defunct 'Less Than Truckload' (LTL) carrier for a couple of years and had to quit due to medical reasons. There's a lot more to driving than videos like this can show (for the most part). Delays everywhere typically. You're usually paid by the mile so when you are sitting you're not making money. Company drivers get screwed the worst. I used to get stuck behind trains in rail yards and have to sit there for *hours* waiting for the train to move. Then there's the waiting to get loaded (and unloaded, if you're doing OTR or Pick-up & Delivery (local)). When you're stuck in the middle of an accident you're not making money either...sometimes for *hours* .

    You're a lot braver than I am. I didn't even want to reverse into the street with one of the biggest Vans Amazon had me driving in, and it had 360 degree cameras and sensors. I knew I could do it but I don't trust other drivers. I saw you back that thing into the street my first thought was you're insane 💀

    Dude that’s crazy I used to work down on 29th. You passed that BP. They got 2/5$ 40s lol. Good to see you back here. Also that other pizzeria I think you’re thinking of is Lou Malnatis. Used to work for them before covid. You gotta try. Both are good in my opinion.

    IT is the sign of the times...just to save money on shipping from a warehouse...I was in the trucking business for 30 years and we had 5 different length trailers just to deliver in the city. From 3 different length straight trucks to 40 foot flyers with lift gates added. Getting product straight from the supplier and not knowing the area , a double sleep and a 53 foot swing door can be over 70 feet long...The inner city was built way before the 53 foot trailer became the norm...

    Your Cab looks very much like my 1986 Freightliner... I forget the Model maybe FLD.. It has an 18,000# set back front axle so manuverability is good.. Plus it's a day cab .. 44,000 rears a very short truck overall .. 400 Cummins and 13 speed..

    There is always traffic, 24/7 in New York City, Chicago Washington DC, and mst of the time in Atlanta. At least in Atlanta, it is mostly clear between 2-4a.m., I know; because, I lived in Atlanta, Chicago, and have relatives that I visited all of my life in Washington DC.

    Originally it was the SEARS Tower. I will never understand anyone that wants to pay a fortune to live in a box of a home high up & only way is elevator or boat load of stairs. Something for everyone. There was a time Rasim when Trucks & Cars showed some curtesy on the roadways. Those days went south. Ues to go to Chicago a lot. Was traveling from out West through Chicago & the bridge in Joilet about 1/2 hour out of Chicago, it was pouring rain & trailer was pulling flipped over the bridge. Then the commuter traffic. I got it back on the road & made the East Coast with just a few hours to spare. Another story another time. Safe Travels, Tommy :-)

    I’m debating getting my CDL with manual transmission. I know how to but in a 4 Wr and seeing you how you deal with it, I just get discouraged. It looks like a lot of a hustle with traffic and shifting. I’ll read opinions.

    Bro I think you’d be much better in a Reefer as far as rates and the places reefers go are very very rarely this tight. That was my number 1 thing when I switched from van to a Reefer, most places give u plenty and plenty of room and docks to park except the north east 😊

      I was in 3 terminals in my 30 year career with my trucking company. I'm not sure how it works at warehouses but sleepers and swing door don't go well with a loaded dock. Our terminals ran 24/7 6 days a week, we made the independent driver wait till later in the afternoon to unload. We had over 120 city driver and our own over the road driver. The independent driver sometime made the yard a road block, they often came back to ask for another door or put their load in the wrong door altogether...

  • @cgulden
    @cgulden 3 роки тому +1

    I found that driving the tractor towards the opening and then turning it out, leaves your trailer wheels in a better angle to the dock, than if you just pull up leaving a 90 degree turn.

      They seem to forget it. I work the yard at my terminal...I helped many a OTD with this problem...Slide the ( tandems ) wheels all the way back and the trailer won't get away from you so quick.. Higher at dock level so no un-needed bouncing and level at the dock height to remove larger freight. I don't know how many times we had to hunt down a road driver to slide them so we could unload something that wasn't clearing the with of our dock plates. Off walking a dog or in the bunk sleeping every time...
