Yeah the Budda hand thing always bothered me.. if I was that canvas I'd be pissed if people knew it was wrong the whole time before it was ever put on my body for the rest of my life
The way they talk about the canvases for tapping out because they literally passed out or had a panic attack is horrible. I can't imagine going to their shop and being spoken about that way if my pain tolerance was low. Part of tattooing is making clients comfortable
The fact that Bubba's "faux Asian" portrait wasn't enough to get him sent home is insane. That tattoo is TERRIBLE and was fully done by the time of judging.
He did get eliminated that day, they just didn’t show it on this video. Nunez said enough is enough, he didn’t want to see anymore and Bubba went home too.
This show is weird because none of these challenges actually display whether or not you're a good tattoo artist. In the real world people do their style and clients come to them for that. They work within their timeframe. They don't take clients that they don't gel with. Four tattoo artists do not work the same person at once. I worry that this show will inspire people to take up tattooing while having no respect for skin or for people. A lot of these tattoos won't even heal well because the nature of the competition causes trauma to the skin.
i think a "master ink" title is a little different then "sells amazing tattoos really well" Its kinda like a lot of other artists. most artists post their style somewhere, mostly online now days and costumers come to us with what we got already. but i wouldn't really call myself a "master' in my field, there's other artists in the niche that i'm in that can do a wider range of things in a better quality. this is more like "proof i can do a lot of things really good in my craft" then running a store- but things like looking after their canvas still apply
Yeah. They were just insulting him all the way through. He might be been a bit unfriendly but I think he was nervous, especially about getting two tattoos at the same time. Also, the back of the calf is always going to be super painful unless all the nerves are shot. why are they so surprised when someone says the tattoo hurts? yall are literally sticking half of her body with needles and are confused when she cries and taps out. its even worse because they made her stay there and didnt give her a break
Obviously how they treated the poor cheetah girl was awful but you know what the cherry on top was; they tattooed her like a leopard, not a cheetah. You can even see at 6:23 there using a leopard for reference. So she went through all that pain and didn't even get the tattoo she asked for!
yeah dude, what the hell??? not even the right animal. like did every single person with eyes there really miss that? it'd be like her asking for zebra stripes and they're looking at a pic of a white tiger. Tf?
Jeez. I honestly hope that the girl getting the cheetah tattoo was okay in the end and compensated well. The way they treated her was callous, unethical and generally just horrifying to see. She deserves a heck of an apology at minimum.
This is one of the best compilations yet. Usually, it's choppy bits that hardly show the tattoos. I don't know, but it seems like the editor's watching the clock instead of the art most of the time. BUT this one was different because I really got a feel for the competition as well as the struggles to make good art. My other wish is to stop with the contestant rolling their eyes, it's become a joke instead of being visual emotion. ANYWAY, this was a very entertaining vid, thank you.
I think another thing a lot of people don’t take into count with the pain from this is that regardless of the canvasses pain tolerance, a heavy handed tattoo artist will hurt regardless. It especially will hurt more if you’re getting heavy hands in multiple places and a lot of the tattoo artists on this show are just brutal at tattooing. Like their work is good but their technique is aggressive and I can definitely tell you as someone who has been tatted by multiple artists, one of my best and biggest was the least painful because of the artist’s technique.
I can’t be the only who thought that they shouldn’t have had four artists tattooing one person at the same time on four different body parts each. That sounds painful as hell. I don’t know why none of the teams decided that each artist takes about an hour each to do the outline, then tag in doing color. Could be slow, but one needle is better than four needles at the same time. 😑 Edit Two Years Later: Another thing. *KATIE’S CHEETAH SPOTS ARE UGLY AS SHIT-*
The other teams did this. They chose to take turns, tattoing two at a time but not all four at the same time. It was stupid to imagine that any person could sit through multiple hours of being tattooed by four people
When someone tells you they feel like they’re about to pass out, listen to them. They aren’t trying to waste your time when you’re busy. They’re trying not to pass out. When someone says they’re reaching their limit with the pain they’re experiencing, and they need you to give them a minute, give them at least a damn minute 🤦♀️ If your client cannot breathe - they almost certainly are not hyperventilating just for more of your special attention - they’re panicking, because they can’t breathe. Even all that and the recognisable pattern issue aside... I love Cleen’s work, he’s an outright amazing artist - but he knew damn well he was separating his work from his teammates and then tried to front when the judges picked up on it. 🤦♀️🤦♀️ Hes so skilled, it could have been a way better collab. Shame 👐
Honestly I blame the producers or whoever thought it was a good idea to make these canvases sit through multiple tattoos at the same time. In a real tattoo shop, that'd never happen. It's not the artists fault for just doing what they're told because it is a competition and they have to do what they're told however they shouldn't have to do it because it's just cruel that whoever thought of these challenges thought it would be safe for the canvases
I feel like they should be able to provide the clients with pain relief. Like you’re setting up a challenge that is meant to hurt, and then they are supposed to stay still. At least make it possible for them.
Are you referring to medication? They can recommend over the counter stuff but they can't give them stuff. They should give them food and regular breaks though
I dont think those people really understand what they did to that poor girl with the cheetah tattoo. Not only did the push her past her limit (she said she couldnt do it, and they just told her she could, ignored her and continued) to the point of trama, she has to live with the memory of it everytime she looks at her body. Thats serious PTSD territory.
Honestly. That girl had 4 people tattooing her at the same time and the artists are like expecting her to just sit there and what tough it out? Like if she’s in that much pain that she’s having like a panic attack or something, stop. Her health and safety is not less important than winning
This. The lack of empathy is appalling. I don't get tattoos myself, but if I did I would be put off ever going to some of these people for one. Great art, sure, but it's so dehumanising to just stand there mocking someone or making snide comments when they tap out. Your competition is not more important than a human beings safety!
It angers me that there’s times when the judges say work with the client to be a good tattoo artist then goes around and says crap like push the client down. The inconsistency is baffling.
I’ve been tattooed by three different artists (all separate times), and each of them have a different hand. One I could have fallen asleep with, one I winced a few times, and the other I can barely sit through sometimes for a full session depending where it’s located. Every artist has a different hand, and works skin differently. And it’s ignorant to ignore that fact.
@@remy7663 I don’t know, I believe that most of what they’re saying is really them. I mean it’s not like they would be a buddy buddy with each other in a competition.

Based on a few episodes where that's explicitly pointed out, I think that they do get water. There's one episode where an artist (I know you said canvases but I think it points to the overall point of your question) is called out for not drinking water. forcing someone to continue a tattoo once they've said they're in too much pain is non-consensual, you're assaulting someone at that point... doesn't matter if they consented to get the tattoo in the first place, people can withdraw consent whenever they want even if that means having an unfinished tattoo
I agree- she probably felt violated too being basically naked and tatted by 4 people while being ignored - wouldve worked with her a lot better!
Any tattoo artist that would disagree with this statement is a tattoo artist I would never want a tattoo from.
I am so glad someone brought up this issue! The whole situation was an assault and the poor woman is probably traumatized. Consent can be withdrawn any time. I can’t believe my eyes in regards to some of these comments towards the “cheetah girl.” People can truly be cruel.

I’m sorry, but a big pet peeve of mine is when people mix up cheetah and jaguar/leopard spots. This is a professional show and they said it was cheetah spots but it was not. Cheetah’s have solid spots, not rosettes. They tattooed rosettes on her so she is not getting a cheetah tattoo. Period.
Thank you! When they pulled out their reference photo I actually said out loud, "that's not a cheetah..."
It sickens me that Chris mocked the poor girl. At first, he acted like he cared for her then mocked her later on.

A lot of these tattoos won't even heal well because the nature of the competition causes trauma to the skin.
i think a "master ink" title is a little different then "sells amazing tattoos really well"
Its kinda like a lot of other artists. most artists post their style somewhere, mostly online now days and costumers come to us with what we got already. but i wouldn't really call myself a "master' in my field, there's other artists in the niche that i'm in that can do a wider range of things in a better quality. this is more like "proof i can do a lot of things really good in my craft" then running a store- but things like looking after their canvas still apply
The respect for canvases and other artists disgusts me.

Obviously how they treated the poor cheetah girl was awful but you know what the cherry on top was; they tattooed her like a leopard, not a cheetah. You can even see at 6:23 there using a leopard for reference. So she went through all that pain and didn't even get the tattoo she asked for!
I felt so bad for her.
yeah dude, what the hell??? not even the right animal. like did every single person with eyes there really miss that? it'd be like her asking for zebra stripes and they're looking at a pic of a white tiger. Tf?

Jeez. I honestly hope that the girl getting the cheetah tattoo was okay in the end and compensated well. The way they treated her was callous, unethical and generally just horrifying to see. She deserves a heck of an apology at minimum.
why don't the judges just give the artists sheets of fake skin to work on if they straight up don't care about what the canvases want lmao
Drama can be caused by the canvas disagreeing with the design or borderline dying from pain. Producers don't have ethics.

7:49 i liked how that dude was the only one who actually cared about her being in pain, none of these artists on the show seem to have any empathy
Edit Two Years Later: Another thing.

When someone says they’re reaching their limit with the pain they’re experiencing, and they need you to give them a minute, give them at least a damn minute 🤦♀️
If your client cannot breathe - they almost certainly are not hyperventilating just for more of your special attention - they’re panicking, because they can’t breathe.

They should give them food and regular breaks though
the four horsemen tattoos all looked AMAZING. I would love to have either sets of them on me
I dont think those people really understand what they did to that poor girl with the cheetah tattoo.
Props to all the canvases that are able to sleep through the tattoo man,I cant imagine myself being able to do that.
I honestly can't believe this kind of "challenge" was approved. I feel like this is super dangerous because the pain can be absolutely unbearable.
These challenges of multiple artists on the same canvas at the same time are pure torture, i can only imagine the pain these poor people were in

how come I never see the canvases drink water, not everybody can handle hours of getting tattooed and I feel like a nice cold cup of water would help them calm down. Before the haters say anything, i'm not saying they don't give water I just never see it soo I have a right too assume they don't
Based on a few episodes where that's explicitly pointed out, I think that they do get water. There's one episode where an artist (I know you said canvases but I think it points to the overall point of your question) is called out for not drinking water. The medic walks over to her and is like "I haven't seen you drink water or used the bathroom. Drink this please." So I'm thinking, hopefully, if the artists are expected to drink water the canvases are too and they just don't show it
