I think a reason that Alice is so calm and accepting of what's happening is that it's in her head. She's in a world that seems to make sense to her, despite none of it making sense at all. Some things make sense to an insane person but, not to a person who is sane. A sane person would not be calm or accepting of the odd things happening (floating, upside-down mirrors, landing almost on one's head while chasing after a rabbit in a waistcoat, chasing after said rabbit with a smile) I believe the characters are a creation from Alice's imagination; an insane person creating insane characters.
