You should definitely spend some solid time viewing the armour of tanks using the armour inspector in the hanger, familiarizing yourself with the vehicles will be extremely helpful. Also make sure you run kinetic rounds as your main ammo, not chemical rounds, because kinetic rounds have much better penetration. Finally, most tanks follow a similar trend in armour placement, the frontal armour being thickest, while the sides and rear are very weak. Frontally there are still places that can be penetrated, the turret tends to be very thick and hard to penetrate, especially around the gun breach, although the turret ring is a weak point. Moving on to the hull, the upper glacis plate is usually ultra thick and also heavily sloped making it impenetrable, but the lower glacis plate is usually very thin and easy to penetrate.
