The comments on this vid (I'm sorry, there are FAR too many to reply to!) really show the more supportive members of the WoT community, and the more toxic members of the WoT community. Good to see WT isn't the only military/tank game with both extremes ;-)

@HowLongDoesItTake4Dads2BuyMilk armour is very much existant. If an E100 player knows how to angle fo example. And premium ammo doesn't give you 100% of penning. Accuracy doesn't mean nothing as when you have that 0.35-0.3 dispersion you propably are gonna hit. Only your spotting range is show on the map. Map knowlage is REALLY important as you need to know where your weakspots will be visible, where can you flank without the entire team knowing, where can you sit without being spotted, etc. And you will be much quicker when you know weakspot rather than look for them in battle giving you a significant advantage. I'd say this has more skill than spawning in a light tank with a bush and killing everything across the map while hiding begind a building so no one can see you or gatting a kill in the light and killing a heavy who didn't even get to the fight yet with a plane he can't fight against.

1: Use the minimap (zoom it in to make it bigger) - that's always a main key.
2: The zoom blooms when turning the turret wich means it's harder to hit accurat when shooting in full bloom. Wait for it to shrink.
3: Set up your tank before entering the battle. You didn't have a rep.kit, health pack nor a fire extinguisher
4: There's also the option to add equipment to your tank to make it even better (1-3 slots to the left of the shell-layout in the garage)

Aiming works like Call of Duty where the reticle blooms out after firing or moving. You have to wait for the circle around your crosshair to stop shrinking before you fire to get accurate shots. There is also an RNG element to how accurate you are when fully aimed. Also, you can take out crew and components, but they also have HP, with an RNG element that gets you a critical hit if you roll high.

    • @jonathantrudel-noaaaffilia2149
      @jonathantrudel-noaaaffilia2149 9 місяців тому +2

Besides that, one of the aspects of the various tanks is gun accuracy. Barebones tanks can be upgraded before you can buy the next level tank, plus there are crew aiming skills you get via XP, and enhancements that you can add on via credits you earn. Also, when facing opponents, keep moving and'or hid behind cover, which I did see you do. Angling your tank away from being broadsided, as front armor is better, and never expose your rear. I don't know how much that matters in WT, but it's one of the first things you need to focus on so you don't die. Tthe walkthrough mission you had with the Sherman should have gone over those basics that with you, though it's possible you skipped the dialogue.
Look into those improvements before giving up on it completely. As for me, I've never played WT, but I have watched a lot of videos of the gameplay.

HP bars also means much more fair economy - you've done most damage but someone stole the kill, no biggie, you get paid the most. Spotting targets is also viable from economy standpoint unlike WT, also everyone can do it, not only select light tanks.

great video, totally different perspective on this game than regular WoT content creators!
just to clear up a few things about mechanics and whatnot:
    1. penetration/damage mechanics: the game still simulates the shell and the armor (penetration vs ricochet vs bounce on AP shells), it still is possible to one shot tanks depending on the armor and the gun or if you ammo rack them
    2. penetration/armor mechanics: different parts of tanks do have different armor thicknesses (and effective armor is used for calculations), meaning hitting the side/rear/weak spots (like capola) is more likely to deal damage
    3. aiming mechanics: scrolling/zooming is one way to go into sniper mode but left shift also does this; low tier tanks are very inaccurate (also depends on the specific gun), higher tier tanks have much better accuracy, also bloom settles down if you stop moving/turning for a bit
    4. autoaim: if you right click on a tank it will automatically turn your turret and gun towards the center of that tank; for aiming at moving targets it is best to stop autoaiming and manually aim ahead, also better for aiming at weakspots/etc.

This was a really fun video to watch and an interesting insight on how difficult it can be to get into this game. Ive been playing this game for almost a year now and ill give you some tips on how this game works.
Tanks in this game come much like in war thunder through the tech tree, you have tanks from Tier 1-10. The game gave u 3 starter tier 3 tanks and each battle u complete you will get battle experience depending on how much damage you did, spotting, and how many kills you got. With the battle experience you can research tank modules to upgrade your tank and get better guns, turrets, engines, tracks, etc and also research tanks in the next tier. Along with battle xp u get free xp which u can use to speed up researching the modules(You can do this by pressing the research button above your tank stats). There are additional tanks called Premium Tanks that go from Tier 2-10, they dont have any researchable modules and give u more credits and costs less to repair.
The reason you were having difficult hitting your shots is because the game has a dispersion and bloom mechanic where when u aim down, u have to stand still and wait for the aiming circle to fully set so that ur shot is more likely to hit. If you shoot without aiming, it will most likely go somewhere completely different. Different tanks have different dispersions and aiming depending on the size of the shells, shell velocity, gun dispersion, aiming time, etc.
On the slots left to your ammo is Equipment. Equipment can be used to improve different stats of your tank like reload speed, dispersion, your view range, hull and turret traverse, speed of the tank, etc. Some equipments work better in certain tanks and worse in others, and some are almost completely useless like the spall liner. On the slots to the right is the consumables, consumables are one of the most important mechanics in the game, usually from tier 5-9 i use small repair kit on the first slot(you can repair tank modules like your gun, tracks, turret, fuel tank when they are damaged), small aid kit on the second slot(your crew members can get killed if they hit certain parts in tanks), and a manual fire extinguisher in the third slot( for when you get set on fire). At tier 10, if you really want to, u can use the more expensive consumables like the large repair kit and medkit(they repair all modules and heal all crew members), or combat rations(which improves the view range, reload speed and dispersion), or automatic fire extinguisher(which stops fires automatically without u needing to press a button)

As someone playing both games for 10+years
There is not a lot of skill that translates between wot and wt
While healthbars can feel unnatural for someone coming from WT I would say that they are very intuitive and familiar for majority of gamers, like 98% of games are using HP bars
As you pointed out wot is kinda like counter strike, it's a very gamey game
Skill floor is quit low but skill ceiling is A LOT higher
Armor penetration calculations are quite accurate and realistic tho
your gun damage stats ditcates how much damage you deal to enemies, you can look it up in garage
tl;dr gun with avarage so called "alpha" of 390, deals on avarage 390 damage (there is +/- 25% rng spread tho)
That circle around your reticle is aiming circle and it basically tells you how much spread you have when you shoot
The smaller it is the more accurate your shots are
If you move or move your turret around it grows, if you stop and aim it gets smaller
At lower tiers in general tanks are not very accurate
In the bottom left corner next to image of your tank crew and modules you can see your damage death and kills, also kills pop up on kill feed and you can see it on score screen (tab)

I started on WoT and switched to WT specifically because of this. The abundance of RNG and extremely long time to kill is extremely unintuitive and unnecessarily infuriating. Almost every other game gets it right where, if you aim correctly, your shot will go where you aim it, and the damage you deal is consistent. WoT can punish you even if you do everything correctly. This is why esports are uncommon in WoT and much more common in WT, despite WT's inconsistency.

    • @zeroyuki92
      @zeroyuki92 9 місяців тому +2

@@kyntac187 Oh never knew that WT has an actual esport around it, is it thriving?
The thing about 'killing everything in WoT is long' is that the WoT fanbase has an exactly opposite problem from your complain: they complained about the game being too short nowadays.
In WT if you die you can just respawn. So getting oneshotted means you can just respawn with different tank (or planes) and maybe try to hunt them back or do something else.
You can't do that in WoT, as everything is designed with no respawn in mind (WoT maps are not playable if every tank can one shot each other). So HP is designed to allow players to do mistake and still reengage to the fights or even YOLO through otherwise bad situation with some predictability.
This no respawn thingy is both a blessing and curse, as it also allows the game to have what makes the game addicting and have bigger playerbase imho: you can situations where there are only few players left and you can duel to death. While in WT 'carry' means you basically plays effectively and possibly control the objective well, in WoT 'carry' means you somehow managed to flip a 1 vs 5 to a victory. So yeah, it's indeed the counter strike of tank battles.

    • @kyntac187
      @kyntac187 9 місяців тому

@zeroyuki92 Yes the esport is really popular with players, but time to kill is a different thing to game length. Shorter time to kill with respawns is the most common for pvp games in general for a reason, and many games that still have a short kill time also often have no respawns (ie R6 and some WT game modes) There is a reason why this is whats popular, and why people complain about spongy enemies in PvE and PvP alike.

Great video! It's always interesting to look at people's first experiences and reminisce about mine.
As you've figured out, World of Tanks is fundamentally an arcade shooter. Any sense of realism has left past its first years - and that's perfectly fine. I personally find it much more entertaining due to the silly, yet fun mechanics present and the fact that balancing can be done without having to worry about historical accuracy.
Not sure if WT has this phenomenon as well, but there are many people with tens of thousands of battles (so thousands of hours) logged onto World of Tanks who routinely do as well as you did in your first battle. Don't worry about your performance - we all start somewhere, and what separates the wheat from the chaff in this game is the drive to improve.
Both WoT and WT have a steep learning curve, with their own set of mechanics. If you're interested in continuing (and I hope you do) I recommend looking at Quickybaby's youtube videos, as he has excellent content for beginners.

Yes it matters where you shoot someone on their tank. Every tank has armor at different thicknesses in certain areas on the tank so if your gun has enough penetration on standard or gold rounds then you can pen them in certain spots. Also the guns aren't "inaccurate", it's just a combination of your crew not being 100% trained because you need to play the tank more to increase their training to master the tank handling and they have additional crew skills for each select crewmember of the tank for different rolls that helps a ton. Also the guns on the tanks just have their own unique handling and if you go into the research area on the tank and hover over the modules you see all the statistics for how fast the gun can (aim). You have to wait for the aiming circle to fully tighten on the target for itnto be the most accurate shot the gun can do but even then every gun has different attributes and some just have more spread aswell as do more standard damage depending on the caliber....there's a lot to world of tank and it's very competitive and well thought out. The only arcadey thing I'd agree with maybe is the hp but I enjoy it. Gives you an idea of how many times you can get potentially slapped by someone before you die if they pen you every time and if you k ow how much damage an enemy tanks gun does if they hit you then you'll know if you'll survive it or not (unless they ammorack you and your tank explodes)just like in warthunder. I'd get it another chance!

You are SPOT ON! And speaking of penetration, a lot of the penetration points on a tank are in theory like a real tank with armor being of different thicknesses. You were firing without paying attention to you sight bloom, each gun has different handling characteristics as does the tank. Each tank has armor that is different thicknesses in different places, so you have to aim the gun, then fire when fully aimed at a tanks weak points. If you shoot a tank in the frontal armor it has a higher chance of not penetrating. It does register where you were hit in the lower left and when you kill someone, it displays in gold font above the minimap. The minimap also shows your location, the location of teammates, as well as the location of enemies that were spotted. Moving your tank or gun makes your aim circle bloom, increasing the difficulty of making your shot. Throwing up a rifle and firing without aiming causes the same misses. You also didn't put any equipment on your tanks which lets you set up the tank the way you wanted to play it. Also you carried no repair kits or crew first aid kits, also you crew was untrained, a mechanic like the equipment that lets you specialize your crew. Tanks used in battle stay in battle until the match ends, then you get that tank back to the garage. In short, aiming matters, tank upgrades matter, crew skills matter and equipment matters, none of which you took into account. You were also playing different types of tanks, ie lights and heavies without playing them to their strengths. You tried to play them the same way, which simply doesn't work well. That said I also play WT for its attention to realism, but WoT is about battle balance, with each type of tank having an affect on battle matchmaking. 3 battles is just not going to give you the full sense of the game mechanics, but I appreciated watching you try the game.

Okay, so you're new to WoT
First: That thing in the middle is the "Armor Penetration Indicator" or API for short, it tells you wether or not you can penetrate the enemy, and that circle, it's called Dispersion it's pretty much where the shell lands, to aim accurately you could stay still and wait for it to shrink, buy equipment (but not Improved Ventilation), use the nationality food (in consumables there you could find repair kit, medkit, fire extenquisher, etc), or train the Brothers in arms perk (crew perk)
Second:There are 5 different type of tanks, Lights, Mediums, Heavies, Destroyers, and SPG (or Artillery) each boasting different types of gameplay and tanks have different way to play. Versatiles pretty much could do anything, Assault breaks trough an Enemy Flank, Snipers shoots tank at a distance, etc. Iconic tanks are the Maus (Same as WT, boast Thick armor) E100 (but uses a Krupp turret not the Maus turret you guys use in WT) IS-7(Easy to get ammoracked i think?) FV4005 (The Sh*tbarn, with 183mm gun it penetrates pretty much every tank) T92 HMC (An SPG holding the record for the biggest gun 240mm), and many more
Third: There's codes to get Credits (Buys almost everything) Gold (A more valuable credits) Camos (those texture on your Patton) and even a Premium/Collector tanks. There are time limit on the codes most notably for newcomers, those who sign up could redeem a newcomers code pretty much on a part where it's an ad for Wot on UA-cam, and their official too, such as "TANKBOOTCAMP" 250k credits, 500-1000 gold (don't remember exact number) and a tier 5 premium British heavy, the Excelsior complete with 100% trained crew. Or those from the ads gives you the same but you'd get a tier 6 Medium Cromwell B instead, and 3 rental tanks.

@timsvarietygaming Each tank has a very specific role to play in the battle as well, and each tank class gets specific bonuses to help it. It's been years since I have played so the things might have changed but I remember it like this.
Light Tanks: Nerf to total HP but bonus to view range and camouflage. The role is to spot tanks for the team so they can see and shoot them.
Mediums: Average on everything. Role is very flexible and depends on the tank in question, they can help heavy tanks fight, take shots of opportunity (shooting tracks off a tank you can't pen but someone else near you can) and flank with light tanks. They are very versatile.
Heavy: Easy to spot with low view range ( means its hard for you to spot aka make visible hidden tanks on your own, they will see you before you see them ). Bonus of HP and heavy armor. You take the hits and punch back hard. Keep the lights and Mediums alive if you can, you need them to help you spot other tanks.
Tank Destroys: Big guns, high dps, highest pen, but low hit points on average. You get a bonus to stealth and accuracy. Hiding behind bushes makes you extremely hard to spot.
SPG: You get a top down view of the game to launch Massive HE shells across the map. Near hits or direct hits cause damage and daze the crew of tank you hit making everything slower for them. Reloading takes forever and you have no armor or HP. HE shells rarely do full damage as the full damage is only if you pen, but light tanks you can pen but they are hard to hit.
Kinda like this. Light counters heavy, heavy counters Mediums, medium counters light, and SPG is a pain in the rear haha. Not an absolute but a general rule. Each tank is special and has ita own best play style. Some heavy tanks as fast, and some light tanks have huge guns, some mediums have lots of armor.

Knowledge of how to where you can penetrate other tanks, what different shell types do, angling your armour, etc. WoT is all-round a far more arcade style game. I would definitely not call war thunder a better game. Not because its worse, but because they are far too different to compare properly.
War thunder is semi-realistic, you can die within one shot, spotting is based on your own eyes and situational awareness, there is no RNG regarding shooting, just way too many things differ in my opinion to be able to compare them properly, and on top of that, you also get IFVs, APCs, assault guns and CAS along with tanks.
World of tanks is very arcade-y, accuracy and penetration usually depend on RNG, spotting is done automatically, healthbars (but you can still get destroyed in one shot by getting ammoracked and can die by losing all crew altough it is EXTREMELY rare), and other things like that.
They both have tanks, balance issues, pay2win and lengthy grinds, but thats about all they have in common. So please dont go around calling one game definitively better than the other.

@@BlackoutGootraxian yes but when it comes to these games they are the definitive 2 main games in the armoured warfare niche, and while not similar gameplay wise, they get compared a lot. What makes WT better in my opinion is down to the way each game is heading. WT is having a bit of a resurgence after the constant economy and quality of life improvements that they have introduced alongside major updates this year. WoT on the other hand is on a downwards slope. It’s is extremely pay to win, far more than WT which is would argue isn’t at all, but the amount of premium hull-down monsters that oversaturate the matchmaker is ridiculous. If you want the whole rundown then watch Chems’ video whether you love him or hate him on why the game is bad, but frankly there is too many issues to touch on with WoT. The only positive i can think of is free sixth sense for everyone which i can imagine would improve the new player experience exponentially, but aside from that i feel that WoT is not headed in the right direction.

Inaccuracy comes down to your aim reticle. If you notice every time you stop, there is that ring around the crosshairs that shrinks. That judges how accurate your shot will be, but accuracy is also part of an RNG mechanic along with damage based on caliber. Every caliber will have a range of damage they can deal, and it is pretty much a roll of the dice as to if you damage high or low for your caliber. It can be frustrating when you low roll a shot. Your hit points increase as you progress through different tiers, but damage also increases. Some top tier guns will deal insane damage like the 183mm on the fv4005.

Just a few tips (if you bother giving another try on WoT):
On the bottom right corner of the battle screen there's a minimap.
Inside this minimap there are three concentrical circles: a green, a white and a yellow circle.
The yellow circle is the range where the vehicles can be draw / redended on your screen.
The white circle is the farthest possible range that you can spot someone, if you have a crew and equipments for that. It's a range of 445 meters. It's the same for all players and tanks, so you might consider that when you're wandering through the maps, if you "know" (by experience) where the enemies normally are positioned.
The green circle is the limit of where you can spot an enemy vehicle.
As you're new to the game, at the lower tiers and at the very beggining, you will face only "bots" (IA vehicles), and will have only "bots" as teammates (the little grey icon at the side of the nickname of teammates and enemies).
As a suggestion, when facing bots, let your bot teammates spot the enemy for you, and try-out the sight recticle, the "precision" fire (less RNG) or the "burst" fire (more RNG), and things like that.

As a WoT streamer and vet, I could say a lot of things, but I do want to address the concept of HP.
The model is HP based but the tanks have complex armor models and damage can be amplified beyond the standard amount of damage you do per shot through mechanics like ammo rack detonation and setting the fuel tank on fire. Additionally, each tank has other modules that can be damaged as well as crew members that can be injured. Your driver gets killed? Tank goes slower. Your engine gets damaged? Tank goes slower. Your engine gets busted? You are stuck. Your tracks get destroyed? You are stuck. And these are just a few examples. In your first game you played in the tier 9 Patton, your barrel gets damaged which reduces accuracy.

As for hits taken and recieved the damaged and blocked shots are determined by penetration strength of the shell (also type HEAT/HE/AP), armor profile/angle of the hit.
The game leans to arcade style but strategy can be a factor. There is definitely a steep learning curve, armor profiles of the various tanks, spotting mechanics, map positions, equipment configurations and crew skill development.

I used to be a WoT player before some things pushed me towards giving WT a more serious try. It's defintely slower than a lot of FPSs, and at the time felt way more strategic due to that. It's also much more teamwork dependent than WT, which makes for somewhat compelling clan and competition play, and as such there is a lot of clan vs clan toxicity and competitiveness. Unfortunately during my time playing WoT, Wargaming produced a lot of powercreep, making some vehicles way less viable than they used to, generally ones with good armor. Combined with that, they started removing weakspots on a lot of vehicles. I do however appreciate their willingness to add non-service vehicles, though sometimes they have proven to be too willing to add things, not accounting well for balance.
    Important notes for understanding WoT:
The green circle in your reticle is the volume that your hits can land in. If you sit still it gets to its minimum point, and moving and turning the turret takes it to its maximum point, both of which's size/range vary from tank to tank. The bottom left shows your hitbar and damaged modules/crew. The circles on the minimap primarily display detection, with the smallest being proximity, another being your view range. Different tanks are better or worse at visibility/detection, as well as have higher or lower camofluage values, both stats of which can be modified by adding equipment to your vehicle. Sitting still and being in a bush buff your camo value and you can see through bushes if you are close enough. Armor does matter, and angling works. You can see the pen figures on the tanks ammo, and you can buy better ammo for more credits or for premium currency.
