Thanks Gene, I always enjoy your tips and rigging videos. Just got an SS127 and I'm in the process of rigging it up. I'm moving up from a smaller kayak. Now I'm considering a trailer........it never ends, just part of the fun.

Not to be political, I just drove through Georgia and saw all the rebel flags on I -75. Coming from the north I just don't understand it.
Love the setup, but I'm complete opposite about the net. I can't stand the bend in the handle and the arm cup on the leverage net. If they offered a straight handle version I'd probably get one. But I just use a short handle wade net that I extend the handle with PVC filled with foam, so it floats. I keep it up front, and the handle is long enough I don't lose fish going for it. My way isn't right for everyone, but it's right for me. ;)

Thanks for sharing this. I love everything about this kayak but I'm torn between the ss127 and a pedal kayak. Could you give me some imput on a motor vs pedal drive. I will be fishing mostly lakes but occasionally some rivers. I definitely plan on tournament fishing.
Just overload, maybe Tesla will come out with the ultimate rigged kayak!! Something that was originally meant to be paddled all day long, now requires thousands of dollars of electronics, batteries and various customizations. You wouldn't even trust your own kids with it, Sorry, son can't take the Tesla 3000 out at anytime, got to get you the lifetime hoopty special kayak. The most ridiculous thing I heard and saw. Total overkill to catch some fish. Oh, you forgot the custom mountain dew 2ltr to use as a urinal!!!!
For what purpose would you go to a 24 volt system? My Skeeter is using a 24v system and it's perfect. A 24v system would be overkill for a kayak.
Gene, do you have to have the rudder? I’m fixing to put a trolling motor on my ss127. Also what size fuse did you put in the wiring from trolling motor to batteries?

Love the kayak and it looks like a great set up, but its not for me and is getting away from what kayak fishing is about, to me.
The comment about having to run a livescope on a kayak in a tournament says it all.
I think there is a big divide between bass fishing kayaks and inshore. Inshore is a simpler, minimal, clean set up (for the most part) where bass is rigging it just like a bass boat, which means more more more.
I totally agree. I really love it when I rig it up for inshore. It's basically stripped down with a fish finder there only for navigation. Three or four rods on the back and a couple of tackle boxes. Then a cooler and some snacks. Simple and fewer things to go wrong.
How do u launch that thing out? When I had my hobie with a heavy ass marine battery and a xi3 I would roll it out to the water after taking it off the trailer. I hated that part the most!

People like this just take the fun out of it. I’m a supporter of the paddle only, and motorized kayak brackets. Sick set up, but nine rods are completely unnecessary 😂😂😂😂probably 20 pounds of wiring on that rig. Too complex for what we do 😂😂😂😂
Exactly...The reason I got a kyak was to take a limited amount of gear and get into smaller lakes and non motorized lakes..that yak has more stuff than my bass boat...
Why does it take the fun out of it? Seems like Fluke is really excited for it. I have a Meyers Sportspal S14 I tourney fish in. Mine is pretty close to his and I have fun everytime I get to get out. 9 rods is a little overkill but if it works for him, why down it. You dont have to rig yours like his.
might as well just buy a bass boat, defeats the purpose of a kayak. Light, portable, drag to remote spots and launch.
I just couldn't deal with all that on a kayak. I sold my fully outfitted NuCanoe F12. I'll get a jon boat at some point and pimp it out.
Your videos are always filled with so much information. I’ve been considering a SS127 but, being a bit large the seat sitting higher has me concerned. I can drive a few hours for one in stock. I’m 5’8” 285 currently. I currently have a Vibe Shearwater 125 on order but, unsure when it will actually ship. I’d definitely prefer to buy American made. Both seem like great kayak fishing platforms. I live in Illinois near St. Louis so, I will be fishing mainly ponds, small lakes, and some spring fed rivers in Missouri. I’m also, considering a bow mount trolling set up as well. What’s your thoughts on stability for a guy a bit larger? I’m slowly losing weight but, very slowly. I’m considering picking the SS127 up and still getting the shearwater and just see what one best suits me. What are your thoughts? I also, absolutely love your trailer setup, especially the flags for your patriotism. I’m a Navy Submarine Veteran myself but, looking to keep this kayak on the surface. A new trailer isn’t in the cards yet as I’m just jumping into it all. I’ll be using an old jet ski trailer and have my father assist with some welding modifications since he’s a welder. I’m not planning on doing any tournaments this year but, maybe next year. Keep up the great informative videos. I’m open to any suggestions. Thanks Wade
I’ve set in both the Shearwater and the 127, both are great yaks. I went with the shearwater for the pedals and weight. I got it in December so haven’t really had a chance to fish out of it. I don’t think you can go wrong with either of these yaks…good luck

What a setup! I wish I could bring myself to motorize mine. I'm not against motorizing kayaks, I'm against the stupid registration fees for it in my state. IMO anything under 5hp shouldn't require any kind of registration.
I think that anything electric should need to be registered.

I live in NJ and have a Hobie PA 14 and the state nickel and dime us for every thing we do here and that’s one thing I’m not paying the state to register my kayak to put a trolling motor on I agree with you totally.

Congrats by the way on the Ga. natty! And that’s from a Bama fan! Question. I’m new to kayak fishing and I bought a Pelican Catch 100 . It’s thirty six inches wide or so and looks like it’s designed to stand up on. Grippy floor pads and all. But the first time I tried standing up and making a cast, it was really sketchy! Is that just a comfort thing that I just have to get accustomed to or do I need a different/wider brand kayak?
I have a catch 100 also. I’ve had it about a year now. At first it seemed really sketchy standing up to cast in it but it gets better with time. Also, make sure the weight is equally distributed. Good luck and happy fishing.

I don’t get the whole kayak deal. You’ve probably got well over five grand invested in this, you’ve got it on a trailer and you’re going to places that have a boat ramp, so why not just take your bass boat?
I can't fish a kayak tournament out of a bass boat.

Two things. Sounds like you have your ohms law backwards. If you did go to a higher voltage system for your motor that would allow you to downsize your wiring. Higher voltage means less amperage. That's why transmission lines are tens of thousands of volts, 25kv I believe, yet are fairly thin. And second, I feel your pain with those long transducer wires. You can cut them and make custom length cables. Nothing magic about these cables. I personally went with 12 pin 1/3 turn bayonet panel mount connectors and matching plugs. I went with CNLINKO brand connectors and am very happy with them. However if you want MIL Spec connectors you could go with Amphenol or I think Raychem makes appropriate connectors for this purpose. If they're good enough to wire up the baddest attack helicopter on the planet, they are good enough for a Garmin fish finder. Doing this would probably void your warranty but Garmin also has break out boxes that will work for this. I think they are intended to wire 12 pin transducers to 8 pin plugs but could easily be used for this purpose.

Hey Gene. Could I get your input between a few kayak choices. I have been looking at a Nucanoe Flint or Unlimited, Old Town Sportsman(Non-motor version), Or the Vibe Sea Ghost 130. They all have features that I like and don't like. Just not sure what the better option would be for Smaller-ish lakes, Ponds and rivers.

Awesome set up and i really love the look of the bonafide. I need some advice here. I'm looking at getting the ss127 and could you help me with giving your opinion on why not to go with a pedal drive kayak. I really don't want to spend the extra money right now on the p127 but I feel I could add a motor on the ss127. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I have a 1982 Warrior one man sneak boat that I inherited. I don't like the stability of it while standing and bass fishing. It's really designed for shell cracker and smaller species fish. My Q is do you or can you stand up in these and how do you get to you tackle in the back???
